Habakkuk 2
1 On my kepyng Y schal stonde, and schal pitche a grees on wardyng; and Y schal biholde, that Y se what thing schal be seid to me, and what Y schal answere to hym that repreuith me.
Je me tiendrai à ma garde et je me placerai sur les remparts, et je regarderai pour voir ce qu'il me dira, et ce que je répondrai au sujet de ma plainte.
2 And the Lord answeride to me, and seide, Write thou the reuelacioun, and make it pleyn on tablis, that he renne, that schal rede it.
Yahvé me répondit: « Écris la vision, et mets-la en évidence sur des tablettes, afin que celui qui court puisse la lire.
3 For yit the visioun is fer, and it schal appere in to ende, and schal not lie; if it schal make dwellyng, abide thou it, for it comynge schal come, and schal not tarie.
Car la vision est encore pour le temps fixé, et elle se hâte vers la fin, et ne se démentira pas. Même si elle prend du temps, attendez-la, car elle viendra sûrement. Elle ne tardera pas.
4 Lo! the soule of hym, that is vnbileueful, schal not be riytful in hym silf; forsothe the iust man schal lyue in his feith.
Voici, son âme s'enfle d'orgueil. Il n'est pas droit en lui, mais le juste vivra par sa foi.
5 And as wyn disseyueth a man drynkynge, so schal the proude man be, and he schal not be maad feir; for as helle he alargide his soule, and he is as deth, and he is not fillid; and he schal gadere to hym alle folkis, and he shal kepe togidere to hym alle puplis. (Sheol h7585)
Oui, de plus, le vin est perfide: un homme arrogant qui ne reste pas chez lui, qui élargit son désir comme le séjour des morts; il est comme la mort et ne peut être satisfait, mais il rassemble à lui toutes les nations et entasse à lui tous les peuples. (Sheol h7585)
6 Whether not alle these puplis schulen take a parable on hym, and the speking of derk sentencis of hym? And it schal be seid, Wo to hym that multiplieth thingis not his owne; hou longe, and he aggreggith ayens hym silf thicke clei?
Tous ne prendront-ils pas contre lui une parabole et un proverbe de raillerie, et ne diront-ils pas: « Malheur à celui qui augmente ce qui ne lui appartient pas, et qui s'enrichit par l'extorsion! ». Jusqu'à quand? »
7 Whether not sudeynli thei schulen rise to gidere, that schulen bite thee? And thei schulen be reisid to-teerynge thee, and thou schalt be in to raueyn to hem; and thin aspieris in yuel schulen wake.
Tes débiteurs ne vont-ils pas se lever soudainement, réveiller ceux qui te font trembler, et tu seras leur victime?
8 For thou robbidist many folkis, alle schulen robbe thee, whiche schulen be left of puplis, for blood of man, and for wickidnesse of lond of the citee, and of alle men dwellynge in it.
Parce que tu as pillé de nombreuses nations, tout le reste des peuples te pillera à cause du sang des hommes, des violences faites au pays, à la ville et à tous ceux qui l'habitent.
9 Wo to hym that gaderith yuel coueitise to his hous, that his nest be in hiy, and gessith hym for to be delyuered of the hond of yuel.
Malheur à celui qui obtient un mauvais gain pour sa maison, afin de placer son nid en haut, afin d'être délivré de la main du malheur!
10 Thou thouytist confusioun to thin hous; thou hast slayn many puplis, and thi soule synnede.
Tu as conçu la honte de ta maison en exterminant de nombreux peuples, et tu as péché contre ton âme.
11 For a stoon of the wal schal crie, and a tree that is bitwixe ioynturis of bildyngis schal answere.
Car la pierre criera de la muraille, et la poutre de la charpente y répondra.
12 Wo to hym that bildith a citee in bloodis, and makith redi a citee in wickidnesse.
Malheur à celui qui bâtit une ville par le sang, et qui affermit une cité par l'iniquité!
13 Whether not these thingis ben of the Lord of oostis? For puplis schulen trauele in myche fier, and folkis in veyn, and thei schulen faile.
Voici, n'est-ce pas de la part de l'Éternel des armées que les peuples travaillent pour le feu, et que les nations se fatiguent pour la vanité?
14 For the erthe schal be fillid, that it knowe the glorie of the Lord, as watris hilynge the see.
Car la terre sera remplie de la connaissance de la gloire de l'Éternel, comme les eaux couvrent la mer.
15 Wo to hym that yyueth drynk to his frend, and sendith his galle, and makith drunkun, that he biholde his nakidnesse.
« Malheur à celui qui donne à boire à son prochain, en versant votre vin brûlant jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient ivres, afin que vous puissiez contempler leurs corps nus!
16 He is fillid with yuel fame for glorie; and thou drynke, and be aslept; the cuppe of the riythalf of the Lord schal cumpasse thee, and `castynge vp of yuel fame on thi glorie.
Vous êtes remplis de honte, et non de gloire. Vous aussi, vous boirez et serez exposés! La coupe de la main droite de Yahvé se retournera contre vous, et l'opprobre couvrira votre gloire.
17 For the wickidnesse of Liban schal kyuere thee, and distruccioun of beestis schal make hem aferd, of bloodis of man, and of wickidnesse of lond, and of the citee, and of alle men dwellynge ther ynne.
Car la violence faite au Liban vous accablera, et la destruction des animaux vous terrifiera, à cause du sang des hommes et de la violence faite au pays, à chaque ville et à ceux qui y habitent.
18 What profitith the `grauun ymage, for his makere grauyde it, a wellid thing togidere and fals ymage? for the makere therof hopide in makyng, that he made doumbe symylacris.
« Quelle valeur a l'image gravée, pour que son créateur l'ait gravée; l'image fondue, pour que celui qui en façonne la forme s'y fie, pour fabriquer des idoles muettes?
19 Wo to hym that seith to a tre, Wake thou; Rise thou, to a stoon beynge stille; whether he schal mow teche? Lo! this is kyuerid with gold and siluer, and no spirit is in his entrails.
Malheur à celui qui dit au bois: « Réveille-toi! » ou à la pierre muette: « Lève-toi! ». Est-ce là un enseignement? Voici, elle est recouverte d'or et d'argent, et il n'y a en elle aucun souffle.
20 Forsothe the Lord is in his hooli temple, al erthe be stille fro his face.
Mais Yahvé est dans son temple saint. Que toute la terre se taise devant lui! »
