Genesis 47
1 Therfor Joseph entride, and telde to Farao, and seide, My fadir and brethren, the scheep and grete beestis of hem, and alle thingis whiche thei welden, camen fro the lond of Canaan; and lo! thei stonden in the lond of Gessen.
Joseph vint donc informer Pharaon et lui dit: Mon père et mes frères sont arrivés du pays de Canaan avec leur menu et leur gros bétail et tout ce qui leur appartient, et voici, ils sont dans la contrée de Gosen.
2 And he ordeynede fyue, the laste men of hise britheren, bifore the kyng,
Et dans le nombre de ses frères il choisit cinq hommes et il les présenta à Pharaon.
3 whiche he axide, What werk han ye? Thei answeriden, We thi seruauntis ben kepers of scheep, bothe we and oure faderis;
Et Pharaon dit aux frères de Joseph: Quelle est votre occupation? Et ils répondirent à Pharaon: Tes serviteurs sont pasteurs de brebis, nous aussi bien que nos pères.
4 we camen in to thi lond to be pilgrymys, for noo gras is to the flockis of thi seruauntis; hungur wexith greuouse in the lond of Canaan, and we axen that thou comaunde vs thi seruauntis to be in the lond of Gessen.
Et ils dirent à Pharaon: Nous sommes venus pour séjourner dans le pays, car il n'y a plus de pâture pour les brebis que possèdent tes serviteurs, parce que la famine pèse sur le pays de Canaan; maintenant donc permets à tes serviteurs de s'établir dans la contrée de Gosen.
5 And so the kyng seide to Joseph, Thi fadir and thi britheren camen to thee;
Pharaon dit à Joseph: Ton père et tes frères sont venus te joindre:
6 the lond of Egipt is in thi siyt, make thou hem to dwelle in the beste place, and yyue thou to hem the lond of Gessen; that if thou woost that witti men ben in hem, ordeyne thou hem maystris of my beestis.
tu as devant toi tout le pays d'Égypte; établis ton père et tes frères dans la meilleure partie du pays. Qu'ils s'établissent dans la contrée de Gosen; et si tu connais parmi eux des hommes de ressource, fais-les inspecteurs des troupeaux que j'ai.
7 After these thingis Joseph brouyte in his fader to the king, and settide him bifor the king, which blesside the king;
Et Joseph introduisit Jacob, son père, et le présenta à Pharaon. Et Jacob bénit Pharaon.
8 and he was axid of the king, Hou many ben the daies of the yeeris of thi lijf?
Et Pharaon dit à Jacob: Combien as-tu d'années de vie?
9 And he answeride, The daies of pilgrymage of my lijf, ben feewe and yuele, of an hundrid and thretti yeer, and tho `camen not til to the daies of my fadris, in whiche thei weren pilgryms.
Et Jacob dit à Pharaon: Mon pèlerinage est de cent trente ans; les jours de ma vie ont été courts et mauvais, et n'atteignent pas à la durée de la vie de mes pères dans leur pèlerinage.
10 And whanne he hadde blessid the kyng, he yede out.
Et Jacob bénit Pharaon et se retira de devant Pharaon.
11 Forsothe Joseph yaf to hise fadir and britheren possessioun in Egipt, in Ramasses, the beste soile of erthe, as Farao comaundide;
Et Joseph établit son père et ses frères, et leur donna une propriété dans le pays d'Égypte, dans la meilleure partie du pays, dans la contrée de Ramsès, conformément à l'ordre de Pharaon.
12 and he fedde hem, and al the hows of his fadir, and yaf metis to alle.
Et Joseph fournit de pain son père et ses frères et toute la maison de son père, en raison du nombre d'enfants.
13 For breed failide in al the world, and hungur oppresside the lond, moost of Egipt and of Canaan;
Et dans tout le pays il n'y avait point de pain, car la famine était très intense, et le pays d'Égypte et le pays de Canaan languissaient de faim.
14 of whiche londis he gaderide al the money for the sillyng of wheete, and brouyte it in to the `tresorie of the kyng.
Et Joseph recueillit tout l'argent qui se trouva au pays d'Égypte et au pays de Canaan pour les achats de blé, et Joseph fit entrer tout cet argent dans la maison de Pharaon.
15 And whanne prijs failide to the bieris, al Egipt cam to Joseph, and seide, Yyue thou `looues to vs; whi shulen we die bifore thee, while monei failith?
Et lorsque l'argent fut disparu du pays d'Égypte et du pays de Canaan, tous les Egyptiens vinrent à Joseph en disant: Donne-nous du pain? pourquoi faut-il donc que nous mourions sous tes yeux? car l'argent manque.
16 To whiche he answeride, Brynge ye youre beestis, and Y schal yyue to you metis for tho, if ye han not prijs.
Et Joseph dit: Amenez votre bétail et pour votre bétail je vous en donnerai, si l'argent manque.
17 And whanne thei hadden brouyt tho, he yaf to hem metis for horsis, and scheep, and oxun, and assis; and he susteynede hem in that yeer for the chaungyng of beestis.
Alors ils amenèrent leur bétail à Joseph, et il leur donna du pain en échange des chevaux, du menu et du gros bétail et des ânes, et il les fournit de pain cette année-là en échange de tout leur bétail.
18 And thei camen in the secunde yeer, and seiden to hym, We helen not fro oure lord, that the while monei failith, also beestis failiden togidere, nether it is hid fro thee, that with out bodies and lond we han no thing;
Et cette année-là s'étant écoulée, ils vinrent à lui l'année suivante disant: Nous ne pouvons dissimuler à monseigneur que l'argent étant épuisé, et notre bétail dévolu à monseigneur, il ne nous reste plus en face de monseigneur que nos corps et notre sol.
19 whi therfor schulen we die, while thou seest? bothe we and oure lond schulen be thine, bie thou vs in to the kyngis seruage, and yyue thou seedis, lest the while the tiliere perischith, the lond be turned in to wildirnesse.
Pourquoi nous faudrait-il périr sous tes yeux, nous aussi bien que notre sol? Achète-nous, nous et notre sol pour du pain, et nous deviendrons avec notre sol les serfs de Pharaon, et donne-nous de quoi faire les semailles afin que nous vivions et ne mourions pas, et que notre sol ne soit pas un désert.
20 Therfor Joseph bouyte al the lond of Egipt, while all men seelden her possessiouns, for the greetnesse of hungur;
Alors Joseph acheta tout le sol de l'Égypte pour Pharaon; car les Egyptiens vendirent chacun son champ parce que la famine les pressait. Et le pays fut ainsi dévolu à Pharaon.
21 and he made it and alle puplis therof suget to Farao, fro the laste termes of Egipt til to the laste endis therof,
Quant au peuple, il le fit passer dans les villes d'un bout à l'autre du territoire de l'Égypte.
22 outakun the lond of preestis, that was youun of the kyng to hem, to whiche preestis also metis weren youun of the comun bernys, and therfor thei weren not compellid to sille her possessiouns.
Les terres des prêtres furent les seules qu'il n'acheta point; car les prêtres recevant un fixe de Pharaon et se nourrissant de leur fixe que Pharaon leur payait, purent pour cette raison ne point vendre leurs terres.
23 Therfor Joseph seide to the puplis, Lo! as ye seen, Farao weldith bothe you and youre lond; take ye seedis, and `sowe ye feeldis,
Alors Joseph dit au peuple: Voici, j'ai acheté aujourd'hui pour Pharaon vos personnes et vos terres; voici des semences pour vous, ensemencez le sol.
24 that ye moun haue fruytis; ye schulen yyue the fifthe part to the kyng; Y suffre to you the foure residue partis in to seed and in to meetis, to you, and to youre fre children.
Et au temps des récoltes vous donnerez un cinquième à Pharaon et les quatre autres parties vous resteront pour ensemencer le sol et pour vous nourrir vous et ceux qui sont dans vos maisons, et pour nourrir vos enfants.
25 Whiche answeriden, Oure helthe is in thin hond; oneli oure God biholde vs, and we schulen ioifuli serue the kyng.
Et ils dirent: Tu nous sauves la vie! puissions-nous trouver grâce aux yeux de notre seigneur, et nous serons les serfs de Pharaon.
26 For that tyme til in to present dai, in al the lond of Egipt, the fyuethe part is paied to the kyngis, and it is maad as in to a lawe, with out the lond of preestis, that was fre fro this condicioun.
Et c'est ce que Joseph établit comme une règle perpétuée jusqu'à ce jour, savoir que sur le sol de l'Égypte Pharaon prélèverait un cinquième; les terres des prêtres seuls ne furent pas dévolues à Pharaon.
27 Therfor Israel dwellide in Egipt, that is, in the lond of Jessen, and weldide it; and he was encreessid and multiplied ful mych.
Et Israël habita au pays d'Égypte la contrée de Gosen, et ils y possédèrent, et ils furent féconds et ils y devinrent très nombreux.
28 And he lyuede therynne sixtene yeer; and alle the daies of his lijf weren maad of an hundrid and seuene and fourti yeer.
Et Jacob vécut dix-sept ans au pays d'Égypte, et les années de la vie de Jacob étaient cent quarante-sept années.
29 And whanne he seiy the dai of deeth nyye, he clepide his sone Joseph, and seide to hym, If Y haue founde grace in thi siyt; putte thin hond vndur myn hipe, and thou schal do merci and treuthe to me, that thou birie not me in Egipt;
Et lorsque les jours de Jacob approchèrent de leur terme, il manda son fils Joseph et lui dit: Si j'ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, veuille mettre la main sous ma hanche, et me montrer amour et fidélité: ne me donne point la sépulture en Égypte,
30 but `Y schal slepe with my fadris, and take thou awey me fro this lond, and birie in the sepulcre of my grettere. To whom Joseph answeride, Y schal do that that thou comaundist.
je veux reposer avec mes pères, et tu me transporteras hors de l'Égypte, et tu me déposeras dans leur tombeau. Et il répondit: Je me conformerai à ton ordre.
31 And Israel seide, Therfor swere thou to me; and whanne Joseph swoor, Israel turnede to the heed of the bed, and worschipide God.
Et il dit: Jure-le-moi! et il le lui jura, et Israël adora à la tête du lit.
