Genesis 41
1 Aftir twei yeer Farao seiy a dreem; he gesside that he stood on a flood,
Mais il arriva qu'au bout de deux ans entiers Pharaon songea, et il lui semblait qu'il était près du fleuve.
2 fro which seuene faire kiyn and ful fatte stieden, and weren fed in the places of mareis;
Et voici, sept jeunes vaches belles à voir, grasses et en bon point, montaient [hors] du fleuve, et paissaient dans des marécages.
3 and othere seuene, foule and leene, camen out of the flood, and weren fed in thilk brenke of the watir, in grene places;
Et voici sept autres jeunes vaches, laides à voir, et maigres, montaient [hors] du fleuve après les autres, et se tenaient auprès des autres jeunes vaches sur le bord du fleuve.
4 and tho deuoureden thilke kien of whiche the fairnesse and comelynesse of bodies was wondurful.
Et les jeunes vaches laides à voir, et maigres, mangèrent les sept jeunes vaches belles à voir, et grasses. Alors Pharaon s'éveilla.
5 Farao wakide, and slepte eft, and seiy another dreem; seuen eeris of corn ful and faire camen forth in o stalke,
Puis il se rendormit, et songea pour la seconde fois, et il lui semblait que sept épis grenus et beaux sortaient d'un même tuyau.
6 and othere as many eeris of corn, thinne and smytun with corrupcioun of brennynge wynd,
Ensuite il lui semblait que sept autres épis minces et flétris par le vent d'Orient, germaient après ceux-là.
7 camen forth, deuourynge al the fairenesse of the firste. Farao wakide aftir reste,
Et les épis minces engloutirent les sept épis grenus et pleins. Alors Pharaon s'éveilla; et voilà le songe.
8 and whanne morewtid was maad, he was aferd bi inward drede, and he sente to alle the expowneris of Egipt, and to alle wise men; and whanne thei weren clepid, he telde the dreem, and noon was that expownede.
Et il arriva au matin que son esprit fut effrayé, et il envoya appeler tous les magiciens et tous les sages d'Egypte, et leur récita ses songes, mais il n'y avait personne qui les lui interprétât.
9 Thanne at the laste the maistir `of boteleris bithouyte, and seide, Y knowleche my synne;
Alors le grand Echanson parla à Pharaon, en disant: Je rappellerai aujourd'hui le souvenir de mes fautes.
10 the kyng was wrooth to hise seruauntis, and comaundide me and the maister `of bakeris to be cast doun in to the prisoun of the prince of knyytis,
Lorsque Pharaon fut irrité contre ses serviteurs, et nous fit mettre, le grand Panetier et moi, en prison, dans la maison du Prévôt de l'hôtel;
11 where we bothe saien a dreem in o nyyt, biforeschewynge of thingis to comynge.
Alors lui et moi songeâmes un songe en une même nuit, chacun songeant [ce qui lui est arrivé] selon l'interprétation de son songe.
12 An Ebrew child, seruaunt of the same duk of knyytis was there, to whom we telden the dremes,
Or il y avait là avec nous un garçon Hébreu, serviteur du Prévôt de l'hôtel, et nous lui contâmes nos songes, et il nous les expliqua, donnant à chacun l'explication selon son songe.
13 and herden what euer thing the bifallyng of thing preuede afterward; for Y am restorid to myn office, and he was hangid in a cros.
Et la chose arriva comme il nous l'avait interprétée; [car le Roi] me rétablit en mon état, et fit pendre l'autre.
14 Anoon at the comaundement of the kyng thei polliden Joseph led out of prisoun, and whanne `the clooth was chaungid, thei brouyten Joseph to the kyng.
Alors Pharaon envoya appeler Joseph, et on le fit sortir en hâte de la prison; et on le rasa, et on lui fit changer de vêtements; puis il vint vers Pharaon.
15 To whom the kyng seide, Y seiye dremes, and noon is that expowneth tho thingis that Y seiy, I haue herd that thou expownest moost prudentli.
Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: J'ai songé un songe, et il n'[y a] personne qui l'explique; or j'ai appris que tu sais expliquer les songes.
16 Joseph answerde, With out me, God schal answere prosperitees to Farao.
Et Joseph répondit à Pharaon, en disant: Ce sera Dieu, et non pas moi, qui répondra [ce qui concerne] la prospérité de Pharaon.
17 Therfor Farao telde that that he seiy; Y gesside that Y stood on the brenke of the flood,
Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: Je songeais que j'étais sur le bord du fleuve.
18 and seuene kiyn, ful faire and with fleischis able to etyng, stieden fro the watir, whiche kiyn gaderiden grene seggis in the pasture of the marreis;
Et voici, sept jeunes vaches grasses, et en bon point, et fort belles, sortaient du fleuve, et paissaient dans des marécages.
19 and lo! seuene othere kiyn, so foule and leene, sueden these, that Y seiy neuere siche in the lond of Egipt;
Et voici, sept autres jeunes vaches montaient après celles-là, chétives, si laides, et si maigres, que je n'en ai jamais vu de semblables en laideur dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
20 and whanne the formere kien weren deuourid and wastid, tho secounde yauen no steppe of fulnesse,
Mais les jeunes vaches maigres et laides dévorèrent les sept premières jeunes vaches grasses;
21 but weren slowe bi lijk leenesse and palenesse. I wakide, and eft Y was oppressid bi sleep, and Y seiy a dreem;
Qui entrèrent dans leur ventre, sans qu'il parut qu'elles y fussent entrées; car elles étaient aussi laides à voir qu'au commencement; alors je me réveillai.
22 seuene eeris of corn, ful and faireste, camen forth in o stalke,
Je vis aussi en songeant, et il me semblait que sept épis sortaient d'un [même] tuyau, pleins et beaux.
23 and othere seuene, thinne and smytun with `corrupcioun of brennynge wynd, camen forth of the stobil,
Puis voici sept épis petits, minces, et flétris par le vent d'Orient, qui germaient après.
24 whiche deuouriden the fairenesse of the formere;
Mais les épis minces engloutirent les sept beaux épis; et j'ai dit [ces songes] aux magiciens; mais aucun ne me les a expliqués.
25 Y telde the dreem to expowneris, and no man is that expowneth. Joseph answerde, The dreem of the king is oon; God schewide to Farao what thingis he schal do.
Et Joseph répondit à Pharaon: Ce que Pharaon a songé n'est qu'une même chose; Dieu a déclaré à Pharaon ce qu'il s'en va faire.
26 Seuene faire kiyn, and seuene ful eeris of corn, ben seuene yeeris of plentee, and tho comprehenden the same strengthe of dreem;
Les sept belles jeunes vaches sont sept ans; et les sept beaux épis sont sept ans; c'est un même songe.
27 and seuene kiyn thinne and leene, that stieden aftir tho, and seuene thinne eeris of corn and smytun with brennynge wynd, ben seuene yeer of hungur to comynge,
Et les sept jeunes vaches maigres et laides qui montaient après celles-là, sont sept ans; et les sept épis vides [et] flétris par le vent d'Orient, seront sept ans de famine.
28 whiche schulen be fillid bi this ordre.
C'est ce que j'ai dit à Pharaon, [savoir] que Dieu a fait voir à Pharaon ce qu'il s'en va faire.
29 Lo! seuene yeer of greet plentee in al the lond of Egipt schulen come,
Voici, sept ans viennent [auxquels il y aura] une grande abondance dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
30 and seuene othre yeer of so greet bareynesse schulen sue tho, that al the abundaunce bifore be youun to foryetyng; for the hungur schal waste al the lond,
Mais après ces années-là viendront sept ans de famine; alors on oubliera toute cette abondance au pays d'Egypte, et la famine consumera le pays.
31 and the greetnesse of pouert schal leese the greetnesse of plentee.
Et on ne reconnaîtra plus cette abondance au pays, à cause de la famine qui viendra après; car elle sera très-grande.
32 Forsothe this that thou siyest the secunde tyme a dreem, perteynynge to the same thing, is a `schewyng of sadnesse, for the word of God schal be doon, and schal be fillid ful swiftli.
Et quant à ce que le songe a été réitéré à Pharaon pour la seconde fois, c'est que la chose est arrêtée de Dieu, et que Dieu se hâte de l'exécuter.
33 Now therfor puruey the kyng a wijs man and a redi, and make the kyng hym souereyn to the lond of Egipt,
Or maintenant, que Pharaon choisisse un homme entendu et sage, et qu'il l'établisse sur le pays d'Egypte.
34 which man ordeyne gouernouris bi alle cuntreis, and gadere he in to bernys the fyuethe part of fruytis bi seuene yeer of plentee,
Que Pharaon aussi fasse ceci: Qu'il établisse des Commissaires sur le pays, et qu'il prenne la cinquième partie [du revenu] du pays d'Egypte durant les sept années d'abondance.
35 that schulen come now; and al the wheete be kept vndur the power of Farao, and be it kept in citees,
Et qu'on amasse tous les vivres de ces bonnes années qui viendront, et que le blé qu'on amassera, [demeure] sous la puissance de Pharaon pour nourriture dans les villes, et qu'on le garde.
36 and be it maad redi to the hungur to comynge of seuene yeer that schal oppresse Egipt, and the lond be not wastid bi pouert.
Et ces vivres-là seront pour la provision du pays durant les sept années de famine qui seront au pays d'Egypte, afin que le pays ne soit pas consumé par la famine.
37 The counsel pleside Farao,
Et la chose plut à Pharaon, et à tous ses serviteurs.
38 and alle his mynystris, and he spak to hem, Wher we moun fynde sich a man which is ful of Goddis spirit?
Et Pharaon dit à ses serviteurs: Pourrions-nous trouver un homme semblable à celui-ci, qui eût l'Esprit de Dieu?
39 Therfor Farao seide to Joseph, For God hath schewid to thee alle thingis whiche thou hast spoke, wher Y mai fynde a wisere man and lijk thee?
Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: Puisque Dieu t'a fait connaître toutes ces choses, il n'y a personne qui soit si entendu ni si sage que toi.
40 Therfor thou schalt be ouer myn hous, and al the puple schal obeie to the comaundement of thi mouth; Y schal passe thee onely by o trone of the rewme.
Tu seras sur ma maison, et tout mon peuple te baisera la bouche; seulement je serai, plus grand que toi quant au trône.
41 And eft Farao seide to Joseph, Lo! Y haue ordeyned thee on al the lond of Egipt.
Pharaon dit encore à Joseph: Regarde, je t'ai établi sur tout le pays d'Egypte.
42 And Farao took the ryng fro his hond, and yaf it in the hond of Joseph, and he clothide Joseph with a stoole of bijs, and puttide a goldun wrethe aboute the necke;
Alors Pharaon ôta son anneau de sa main, et le mit en celle de Joseph, et le fit vêtir d'habits de fin lin, et lui mit un collier d'or au cou.
43 and Farao made Joseph to `stie on his secounde chare, while a bidele criede, that alle men schulden knele bifore hym, and schulden knowe that he was souereyn of al the lond of Egipt.
Et le fit monter sur le chariot qui était le second après le sien, et on criait devant lui; qu'on s'agenouille; et il l'établit sur tout le pays d'Egypte.
44 And the kyng seide to Joseph, Y am Farao, without thi comaundement no man shal stire hond ether foot in al the lond of Egipt.
Et Pharaon dit à Joseph: Je suis Pharaon, mais sans toi nul ne lèvera la main ni le pied dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
45 And he turnede the name of Joseph, and clepide him bi Egipcian langage, the sauyour of the world; and he yaf to Joseph a wijf, Asenech, the douyter of Potifar, preest of Heliopoleos. And so Joseph yede out to the lond of Egipt.
Et Pharaon appela le nom de Joseph Tsaphenath-Pahanéah, et lui donna pour femme Asenath, fille de Potiphérah, Gouverneur d'On; et Joseph alla [visiter] le pays d'Egypte.
46 Forsothe Joseph was of thretti yeer, whanne he stood in the siyt of kyng Farao, and cumpasside alle the cuntreis of Egipt.
Or Joseph était âgé de trente ans, quand il se présenta devant Pharaon Roi d'Egypte, et étant sorti de devant Pharaon, il passa par tout le pays d'Egypte.
47 And the plente of seuene yeer cam, and ripe corn weren bounden into handfuls, and weren gaderid into the bernys of Egipt,
Et la terre rapporta très-abondamment durant les sept années de fertilité.
48 also al the aboundaunce of cornes weren kept in alle citeis,
Et [Joseph] amassa tous les grains de ces sept années, qui furent [recueillis] au pays d'Egypte, et mit ces grains dans les villes; en chaque ville les grains des champs d'alentour.
49 and so greet aboundaunce was of wheete, that it was maad euene to the grauel of the see, and the plente passide mesure.
Ainsi Joseph amassa une grande quantité de blé, comme le sable de la mer; tellement qu'on cessa de le mesurer, parce qu'il était sans nombre.
50 Sotheli twei sones were born to Joseph bifor that the hungur came, whiche Asenech, douytir of Putifar, preest of Heliopoleos, childide to hym.
Or avant que la [première] année de la famine vînt, il naquit deux enfants à Joseph, qu'Asenath fille de Potiphérah, Gouverneur d'On, lui enfanta.
51 And he clepide the name of the firste gendrid sone, Manasses, and seide, God hath maad me to foryete alle my traueilis, and the hous of my fadir;
Et Joseph nomma le premier-né, Manassé; parce que, [dit-il], Dieu m'a fait oublier tous mes travaux, et toute la maison de mon père.
52 and he clepide the name of the secunde sone Effraym, and seide, God hath maad me to encreesse in the lond of my pouert.
Et il nomma le second, Ephraïm; parce que, [dit-il], Dieu m'a fait fructifier au pays de mon affliction.
53 Therfor whanne seuene yeer of plentee that weren in Egipt weren passid,
Alors finirent les sept années de l'abondance qui avait été au pays d'Egypte.
54 seuene yeer of pouert bigunnen to come, whiche Joseph bifore seide, and hungur hadde the maistri in al the world; also hungur was in al the lond of Egipt;
Et les sept années de la famine commencèrent, comme Joseph l'avait prédit. Et la famine fut dans tous les pays; mais il y avait du pain dans tout le pays d'Egypte.
55 and whanne that lond hungride, the puple criede to Farao, and axide metis; to whiche he answeride, Go ye to Joseph, and do ye what euer thing he seith to you.
Puis tout le pays d'Egypte fut affamé, et le peuple cria à Pharaon pour [avoir du] pain. Et Pharaon répondit à tous les Egyptiens: Allez à Joseph, [et] faites ce qu'il vous dira.
56 Forsothe hungur encreesside ech dai in al the lond, and Joseph openyde alle the bernys, and seelde to Egipcians, for also hungur oppresside hem;
La famine donc étant dans tout le pays, Joseph ouvrit tous [les greniers] qui étaient chez les Egyptiens, et leur distribua du blé; et la famine augmentait au pays d'Egypte.
57 and alle prouynces camen in to Egipt to bie metis, and to abate the yuel of nedynesse.
On venait aussi de tout pays en Egypte vers Joseph, pour acheter du blé; car la famine était fort grande par toute la terre.
