Genesis 4
1 Forsothe Adam knewe Eue his wijf, which conseyuede, and childide Cayn, and seide, Y haue gete a man bi God.
| حوّا از آدم حامله شده، پسری زایید. آنگاه حوّا گفت: «به کمک خداوند مردی حاصل نمودم.» پس نام او را قائن گذاشت. |
2 And efte sche childide his brother Abel. Forsothe Abel was a kepere of scheep, and Cayn was an erthe tilyere.
| حوّا بار دیگر حامله شده، پسری زایید و نام او را هابیل گذاشت. هابیل به گله‌داری پرداخت و قائن به کشاورزی مشغول شد. |
3 Sotheli it was don after many daies, that Cayn offride yiftis to the Lord of the fruytis of erthe;
| پس از مدتی، قائن هدیه‌ای از حاصلِ زمینِ خود را به حضور خداوند آورد. |
4 and Abel offride of the first gendrid of his floc, and of the fatnesse of tho. And the Lord bihelde to Abel and to the yiftis of hym;
| هابیل نیز چند رأس از نخست‌زادگان گلهٔ خود را ذبح کرد و بهترین قسمت گوشت آنها را به خداوند تقدیم نمود. خداوند هابیل و هدیه‌اش را پذیرفت، |
5 sotheli he bihelde not to Cayn and to hise yiftis. And Cayn was wrooth greetli, and his cheer felde doun.
| اما قائن و هدیه‌اش را قبول نکرد. پس قائن برآشفت و از شدت خشم سرش را به زیر افکند. |
6 And the Lord seide to hym, Whi art thou wrooth, and whi felde doun thi face?
| خداوند از قائن پرسید: «چرا خشمگین شده‌ای و سرت را به زیر افکنده‌ای؟ |
7 Whether not if thou schalt do wel, thou schalt resseyue; but if thou doist yuele, thi synne schal be present anoon in the yatis? but the desir therof schal be vndur thee, and thou schalt be lord therof.
| اگر درست عمل کنی، آیا پذیرفته نمی‌شوی؟ اما اگر درست رفتار نکنی، بدان که گناه در کمین توست و می‌خواهد بر تو مسلط شود، ولی تو باید بر آن چیره شوی.» |
8 And Cayn seide to Abel his brother, Go we out. And whanne thei weren in the feeld, Cayn roos ayens his brother Abel, and killide him.
| روزی قائن از برادرش هابیل خواست که با او به صحرا برود. هنگامی که آنها در صحرا بودند، ناگهان قائن به برادرش حمله کرد و او را کشت. |
9 And the Lord seide to Cayn, Where is Abel thi brother? Which answerde, Y woot not; whether Y am the kepere of my brothir?
| آنگاه خداوند از قائن پرسید: «برادرت هابیل کجاست؟» قائن جواب داد: «از کجا بدانم؟ مگر من نگهبان برادرم هستم؟» |
10 And God seide to Cayn, What hast thou do? the vois of the blood of thi brother crieth to me fro erthe.
| خداوند فرمود: «این چه کاری بود که کردی؟ خون برادرت از زمین نزد من فریاد برمی‌آورد. |
11 Now therfor thou schalt be cursid on erthe, that openyde his mouth, and resseyuede of thin hond the blood of thi brothir.
| اکنون ملعون هستی و از زمینی که با خون برادرت آن را رنگین کرده‌ای، طرد خواهی شد. |
12 Whanne thou schalt worche the erthe, it schal not yyue his fruytis to thee; thou schalt be vnstable of dwellyng and fleynge aboute on erthe in alle the daies of thi lijf.
| از این پس، هر چه کار کنی، دیگر زمین محصول خود را آنچنان که باید، به تو نخواهد داد، و تو در جهان آواره و پریشان خواهی بود.» |
13 And Cayn seide to the Lord, My wickidnesse is more than that Y disserue foryyuenesse; lo!
| قائن گفت: «مجازات من سنگینتر از آن است که بتوانم تحمل کنم. |
14 to dai thou castist me out fro the face of the erthe; and Y schal be hid fro thi face, and Y schal be vnstable of dwellyng and fleynge aboute in erthe; therfore ech man that schal fynde me schal slee me.
| امروز مرا از این سرزمین و از حضور خودت می‌رانی و مرا در جهان آواره و پریشان می‌گردانی، پس هر که مرا ببیند مرا خواهد کُشت.» |
15 And the Lord seide to hym, It schal not be don so, but ech man that schal slee Cayn shal be punyschid seuenfold. And the Lord settide a signe in Cayn, that ech man that schulde fynde hym schulde not slee hym.
| خداوند به او گفت: «چنین نخواهد شد؛ زیرا هر که تو را بکشد، مجازاتش هفت برابر شدیدتر از مجازات تو خواهد بود.» سپس خداوند نشانی بر قائن گذاشت تا هرگاه کسی با او برخورد کند، او را نکشد. |
16 And Cayn yede out fro the face of the Lord, and dwellide fleynge aboute in erthe, at the eest coost of Eden.
| آنگاه قائن از حضور خداوند بیرون رفت و در زمین نُود (یعنی «سرگردانی») در سمت شرقی عدن ساکن شد. |
17 Forsothe Cayn knewe his wiif, which conseyuede, and childide Enoth; and Cayn bildide a citee, and clepide the name therof of the name of hise sone Enoth.
| چندی بعد همسر قائن آبستن شده خَنوخ را به دنیا آورد. آنگاه قائن شهری ساخت و نام پسرش خنوخ را بر آن شهر گذاشت. |
18 Forsothe Enoth gendride Irad, and Irad gendride Manyael, and Manyael gendride Matusael, and Matusael gendride Lameth;
| خنوخ پدر عیراد، عیراد پدر محویائیل، محویائیل پدر متوشائیل و متوشائیل پدر لِمک بود. |
19 that took twei wyues, the name to o wijf was Ada, and the name to the tother was Sella.
| لِمک دو زن به نامهای عاده و ظله گرفت. |
20 And Ada gendride Jabel, that was the fadir of dwellers in tentis and of shepherdis;
| عاده پسری زایید و اسم او را یابال گذاشتند. او کسی بود که خیمه‌نشینی و گله‌داری را رواج داد. |
21 and the name of his brother was Tubal, he was the fadir of syngeris in harpe and orgun.
| برادرش یوبال اولین موسیقیدان و مخترع چنگ و نی بود. |
22 And Sella gendride Tubalcayn, that was an hamerbetere, and smyyt on alle werkis of bras and of yrun; forsothe the sistir of Tubalcayn was Neoma.
| ظله، زنِ دیگر لمک هم پسری زایید که او را توبل قائن نامیدند. او کسی بود که کار ساختن آلات آهنی و مسی را شروع کرد. خواهر توبل قائن، نَعمه نام داشت. |
23 And Lameth seide to his wyues Ada and Sella, Ye wyues of Lameth, here my vois, and herkne my word; for Y haue slayn a man bi my wounde, and a yong wexynge man bi my `violent betyng;
| روزی لمک به همسران خود، عاده و ظله، گفت: «ای زنان به من گوش کنید. جوانی را که مرا مجروح کرده بود، کُشتم. |
24 veniaunce schal be youun seuenfold of Cayn, forsothe of Lameth seuentisithis seuensithis.
| اگر قرار است مجازات کسی که قائن را بکشد، هفت برابر مجازات قائن باشد، پس مجازات کسی هم که بخواهد مرا بکشد، هفتاد و هفت برابر خواهد بود.» |
25 Also yit Adam knewe his wijf, and sche childide a sone, and clepide his name Seth, and seide, God hath put to me another seed for Abel, whom Cayn killide.
| پس از آن، آدم و حوّا صاحب پسر دیگری شدند. حوّا گفت: «خدا به جای هابیل که به دست برادرش قائن کشته شده بود، پسری دیگر به من عطا کرد.» پس نام او را شیث (یعنی «عطا شده») گذاشت. |
26 But also a sone was borun to Seth, which sone he clepide Enos; this Enos bigan to clepe inwardli the name of the Lord.
| وقتی شیث بزرگ شد، برایش فرزندی به دنیا آمد که او را انوش نام نهادند. در زمان انوش بود که مردم به خواندن نام خداوند آغاز کردند. |
