Genesis 34
1 Forsothe Dyna, the douytir of Lya, yede out to se the wymmen of that cuntrey.
যে মেয়েটিকে লেয়া যাকোবের জন্য জন্ম দিয়েছিলেন, সেই দীণা সেদেশের মহিলাদের সঙ্গে দেখা করার জন্য বাইরে গেল।
2 And whanne Sichem, the sone of Emor Euey, the prince of that lond, hadde seyn hir, he louede hir, and rauyschide, and sclepte with hir, and oppresside the virgyn bi violence.
সেই অঞ্চলের শাসনকর্তা হিব্বীয় হমোরের ছেলে শিখিম যখন তাকে দেখতে পেল, তখন সে তাকে উঠিয়ে নিয়ে গিয়ে ধর্ষণ করল।
3 And his soule was boundun faste with hir, and he pleside hir sory with flateringis.
যাকোবের মেয়ে দীণার প্রতি তার মন আকর্ষিত হল; সে সেই যুবতী মেয়েটিকে ভালোবেসে ফেলল ও তার সঙ্গে কোমলভাবে কথা বলল।
4 And he yede to Emor,
আর শিখিম তার বাবা হমোরকে বলল, “এই মেয়েটিকে আমার স্ত্রী করে এনে দাও।”
5 his fadir, and seide, Take to me this damysel a wijf. And whanne Jacob hadde herd this thing, while the sones weren absent, and ocupied in the fedyng of scheep, he was stille, til thei camen ayen.
যাকোব যখন শুনতে পেলেন যে তাঁর মেয়ে দীণাকে কলুষিত করা হয়েছে, তখন তাঁর ছেলেরা তাঁর গৃহপালিত পশুপাল নিয়ে মাঠেই ছিল; তাই তারা বাড়ি ফিরে না আসা পর্যন্ত তিনি সে বিষয়ে কিছুই করলেন না।
6 Sotheli whanne Emor, the fadir of Sichem, was gon out, `that he schulde speke to Jacob, lo!
পরে শিখিমের বাবা হমোর যাকোবের সঙ্গে কথা বলতে গেলেন।
7 hise sones camen fro the feeld. And whanne this thing that bifelde was herd, thei weren wroothe greetli; for he wrouyte a foul thing in Israel, and he hadde do a thing vnleueful in the defoulyng of the douyter of Jacob.
এদিকে, যে ঘটনা ঘটেছিল তা শুনে যাকোবের ছেলেরা মাঠ থেকে ফিরে এসেছিল। তারা মর্মাহত ও অগ্নিশর্মা হয়ে উঠল, কারণ যাকোবের মেয়ের সাথে শুয়ে শিখিম ইস্রায়েলে এমন এক নির্লজ্জ কাজ করেছিল—যা করা একদম উচিত হয়নি।
8 And so Emor spak to hem, The soule of my sone Sichem cleuyde to youre douytir, yeue ye hir a wijf to hym,
কিন্তু হমোর তাঁদের বললেন, “আমার ছেলে শিখিম আপনার মেয়েকে তার মন দিয়ে বসেছে। দয়া করে তাকে স্ত্রীরূপে তার হাতে তুলে দিন।
9 and ioyne we weddyngis to gidere; yyue ye youre douytris to vs,
আমাদের সাথে অসবর্ণমতে বিবাহবন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হোন; আপনাদের মেয়েদের আমাদের হাতে তুলে দিন ও আমাদের মেয়েদের আপনারা গ্রহণ করুন।
10 and take ye oure douytris, and dwelle ye with vs; the lond is in youre power, tile ye, make ye marchaundise, and welde ye it.
আমাদের মধ্যে আপনারা স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করতে পারেন; দেশটি আপনাদের কাছে খোলা পড়ে আছে। এখানে বসবাস করুন, এখানে ব্যবসাবাণিজ্য করুন, এবং এখানে বিষয়সম্পত্তি অর্জন করুন।”
11 But also Sichem seide to the fadir and britheren of hir, Fynde Y grace bifor you, and what euer thingis ye ordeynen Y schal yyue;
তখন শিখিম দীণার বাবাকে ও দাদাদের বলল, “আপনাদের দৃষ্টিতে আমাকে দয়া পেতে দিন, এবং আপনারা যা চান আমি আপনাদের তাই দেব।
12 encreesse ye the dower, and axe ye yiftis, Y schal yyue wilfull that that ye axen; oonli yyue ye this damysele a wijf to me.
যে স্ত্রী-পণ ও উপহার আমাকে দিতে হবে, তা যতই বেশি হোক না কেন, আপনাদের ইচ্ছানুসারে তা আপনারাই ঠিক করুন, আর আপনারা আমার কাছে যা চাইবেন, আমি আপনাদের তাই দেব। শুধু যুবতী মেয়েটিকে আমার স্ত্রীরূপে আমায় দিন।”
13 The sones of Jacob answeriden in gile to Sichem and his fadir, and weren feerse for the defoulyng of maidenhod of the sistir,
যেহেতু তাদের বোন দীণাকে কলুষিত করা হয়েছিল, তাই যাকোবের ছেলেরা শিখিম ও তার বাবা হমোরের সঙ্গে কথা বলার সময় ছলনা করে উত্তর দিয়েছিল।
14 We moun not do this that ye axen, nether we moun yyue oure sistir to a man vncircumcidid, which thing is vnleueful and abhomynable anentis vs.
তারা তাদের বলল, “আমরা এরকম কাজ করতে পারব না; আমরা এমন কোনও পুরুষের হাতে আমাদের বোনকে তুলে দিতে পারব না, যার সুন্নত হয়নি। তা আমাদের পক্ষে মর্যাদাহানিকর হবে।
15 But in this we schulen mowe be boundun in pees, if ye wole be lijk vs, and ech of male kynde be circumcidid in you,
একটিমাত্র শর্তে শুধু আমরা তোমাদের সঙ্গে চুক্তিবদ্ধ হতে পারি: তোমাদের সব পুরুষমানুষ সুন্নত করিয়ে যদি আমাদের মতো হয়ে যাও, তবেই তা সম্ভব।
16 thanne we schulen yyue and take togidre oure douytris and youre; and we schulen dwelle with you, and we schulen be o puple.
তখনই আমাদের মেয়েদের আমরা তোমাদের হাতে তুলে দেব ও তোমাদের মেয়েদের আমরা নিজেদের জন্য গ্রহণ করব। আমরা তোমাদের মধ্যেই স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করব এবং তোমাদের সঙ্গে মিলেমিশে এক জাতি হয়ে যাব।
17 Forsothe if ye nylen be circumcidid, we schulen take oure douytir, and schulen go a wei.
কিন্তু তোমরা যদি সুন্নত করাতে রাজি না হও, তবে আমরা আমাদের বোনকে নিয়ে চলে যাব।”
18 The profryng of hem pleside Emor and Sichem,
তাদের প্রস্তাবটি হমোর ও তার ছেলে শিখিমের ভালোই লেগেছিল।
19 his sone, and the yong wexynge man dilaiede not, that ne he fillide anoon that that was axid, for he louede the damysele greetli, and he was noble in al `the hous of his fadir.
সেই যুবকটি, যে তার বাবার পরিবারে সবচেয়ে বেশি সম্মানিত ছিল, সে তাদের কথামতো কাজ করতে একটুও সময় নষ্ট করেনি, কারণ যাকোবের মেয়েকে পেয়ে সে খুশি হয়েছিল।
20 And thei entriden in to the yate of the citee, and spaken to the puple,
অতএব হমোর ও তার ছেলে শিখিম তাদের নগরের লোকজনের সঙ্গে কথা বলার জন্য তাদের নগরের ফটকে চলে গেল।
21 These men ben pesible, and wolen dwelle with vs; make thei marchaundie in the loond, and tile thei it, which is large and brood, and hath nede to tileris; we schulen take her douytris to wyues, and we schulen yyue oure douytris to hem.
“এই লোকেরা আমাদের প্রতি বন্ধুভাবাপন্ন,” তারা বলল। “তারা আমাদের দেশেই বসবাস করুক ও এখানেই ব্যবসাবাণিজ্য করুক; এদেশে তাদের জন্য প্রচুর স্থান আছে। আমরা তাদের মেয়েদের বিয়ে করতে পারি ও তারাও আমাদের মেয়েদের বিয়ে করতে পারে।
22 O thing is, for which so greet good is dilaied; if we circumciden oure malis, and suen the custom of the folc,
কিন্তু সেই লোকেরা একটিই মাত্র শর্তে আমাদের সঙ্গে এক জাতি হয়ে বসবাস করবে, যে আমাদের সব পুরুষমানুষ সুন্নত করাবে, যেমনটি তারা নিজেরাও করিয়েছে।
23 bothe her substaunce, and scheep, and alle thingis which thei welden, schulen be oure; oneli assente we in this, that we dwelle to gidere, and make o puple.
তাদের গবাদি পশুপাল, তাদের বিষয়সম্পত্তি ও তাদের বাকি সব পশু কি আমাদের হয়ে যাবে না? তাই এসো, আমরা তাদের শর্তে রাজি হয়ে যাই, এবং তারা আমাদের মধ্যে স্থায়ীভাবে বসবাস করুক।”
24 And alle men assentiden, and alle malis weren circumcidid.
যেসব লোকজন নগরের ফটকের বাইরে গিয়েছিল, তারা হমোর ও তার ছেলে শিখিমের কথায় রাজি হল, এবং সেই নগরের সব পুরুষমানুষ সুন্নত করাল।
25 And lo! in the thridde day, whanne the sorewe of woundis was moost greuous, twei sones of acob, Symeon and Leuy, britheren of Dyna, token swerdis, and entriden in to the citee booldeli; and whanne alle malis weren slayn,
তিন দিন পর, যখন তারা সবাই তখনও ব্যথায় কাতরাচ্ছিল, তখন যাকোবের ছেলেদের মধ্যে দুজন—দীণার দাদা শিমিয়োন ও লেবি, তাদের তরোয়াল হাতে তুলে নিয়ে সেই অসন্দিগ্ধ নগরটি আক্রমণ করল, ও প্রত্যেকটি পুরুষমানুষকে হত্যা করল।
26 thei killiden Emor and Sichem togidere, and token Dyna, her sistir, fro the hous of Sichem.
তারা হমোর ও তার ছেলে শিখিমকেও তরোয়াল দিয়ে হত্যা করল এবং দীণাকে শিখিমের বাড়ি থেকে নিয়ে চলে এল।
27 And whanne thei weren goon out, othere sones of Jacob felden in on the slayn men, and rifeliden the citee for the veniaunce of defoulyng of a virgyn.
যাকোবের ছেলেরা মৃতদেহগুলির কাছে গিয়ে সেই নগরে লুটপাট চালাল, যেখানে তাদের বোনকে কলুষিত করা হয়েছিল।
28 And thei wastiden the scheep of tho men, and droues of oxun, and assis, and alle thingis that weren in howsis and feeldis,
তারা তাদের মেষপাল ও পশুপাল ও গাধাগুলি এবং সেই নগরে ও মাঠেঘাটে তাদের আরও যা যা ছিল, সেসবকিছু দখল করে নিল।
29 and ledden prisoneris the litle children, and wyues of tho men.
তারা তাদের ধনসম্পদ ও তাদের সব স্ত্রী ও সন্তানসন্ততিকে তুলে এনে, তাদের বাড়িঘরের সর্বস্ব লুট করল।
30 And whanne these thingis weren don hardili, Jacob seide to Symeon and Leuy, Ye han troblid me, and han maad me hateful to Cananeis and Fereseis, dwellers of this lond; we ben fewe, thei schulen be gaderid to gidere and schulen sle me, and Y schal be don a wey and myn hous.
তখন যাকোব শিমিয়োন ও লেবিকে বললেন, “তোমরা সেই কনানীয় ও পরিষীয়দের কাছে, এই দেশে বসবাসকারী জাতিদের কাছে আমাকে আপত্তিকর করে তুলে আমার উপর সমস্যার বোঝা চাপিয়ে দিলে। আমরা সংখ্যায় কয়েকজন মাত্র, এবং তারা যদি আমার বিরুদ্ধে দল বেঁধে আমাকে আক্রমণ করে, তবে আমি ও আমার পরিবার ধ্বংস হয়ে যাব।”
31 Symeon and Leuy answeriden, Whether thei ouyten mysuse oure sistir as an hoore?
কিন্তু তারা উত্তর দিল, “আমাদের বোনের সাথে এক বেশ্যার মতো ব্যবহার করা কি তার উচিত হয়েছে?”
