Genesis 33
1 Forsothe Jacob reiside hise iyen, and seiy Esau comynge, and foure hundrid men with hym; and he departide the sones of Lia, and of Rachel, and of bothe seruauntessis.
Jacob leva les yeux et regarda, et voici, Esaü venait, ayant avec lui quatre cents hommes. Ayant distribué les enfants par groupes auprès de Lia, auprès de Rachel et auprès des deux servantes,
2 And he puttide euer either handmaide, and the fre children of hem, in the bigynnyng; sotheli he puttide Lia, and her sones, in the secounde place; forsothe he puttide Rachel and Joseph the laste.
il plaça en tête les servantes avec leurs enfants, puis Lia avec ses enfants, et enfin Rachel avec Joseph.
3 And Jacob yede bifore, and worschipide lowli to erthe seuensithis, til his brothir neiyede.
Lui-même passa devant eux, et il se courba vers la terre sept fois, jusqu’à ce qu’il fût proche de son frère Esaü.
4 And so Esau ran ayens his brothir, and collide hym, and Esau helde his necke, and kisside, and wepte.
Esaü courut à sa rencontre, l’embrassa, se jeta à son cou et le baisa; et ils pleurèrent.
5 And whanne the iyen weren reisid, he seiy the wymmen, and the litle children of hem, and seide, What wolen these to hem silf? and wher thei pertenen to thee? Jacob answeride, Thei ben the litle children, whiche God hath youe to me, thi seruaunt.
Puis, levant les yeux, Esaü vit les femmes et les enfants, et il dit: « Qui sont ceux que tu as là? » Jacob répondit: « Ce sont les enfants que Dieu a accordés à ton serviteur. »
6 And the handmaydis and her sones neiyeden, and weren bowid.
Les servantes s’approchèrent, elles et leurs enfants, et se prosternèrent.
7 Also Lya neiyede with hir fre children; and whanne thei hadden worschipid in lijk maner, Joseph and Rachel the laste worschipeden.
Lia et ses enfants s’approchèrent aussi, et ils se prosternèrent; ensuite s’approchèrent Joseph et Rachel, et ils se prosternèrent.
8 And Esau seide, What ben these cumpanyes, whiche Y mette? Jacob answerde, That Y schulde fynde grace bifore my lord.
Et Esaü dit: « Que veux-tu faire avec tout ce camp que j’ai rencontré? » Et Jacob dit: « C’est pour trouver grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur. »
9 And he seide, My brother, Y haue ful many thingis, thi thingis be to thee.
Esaü dit: « Je suis dans l’abondance, mon frère; garde ce qui est à toi. »
10 And Jacob seide, Y biseche, nyle thou so, but if Y foond grace in thin iyen, take thou a litil yifte of myn hondis; for Y seiy so thi face as I seiy the cheer of God;
Et Jacob dit: « Non, je te prie, si j’ai trouvé grâce à tes yeux, accepte mon présent de ma main; car c’est pour cela que j’ai vu ta face comme on voit la face de Dieu, et tu m’as accueilli favorablement.
11 be thou merciful to me, and resseyue the blessyng which Y brouyte to thee, and which blessyng God yyuynge alle thingis yaf to me. Vnnethis, while the brothir compellide,
Accepte donc mon offrande qui t’a été amenée, car Dieu m’a accordé sa faveur et je ne manque de rien. » Il le pressa si bien qu’Esaü accepta.
12 he resseyuede, and seide, Go we to gidere, and Y schal be felowe of thi weie.
Esaü dit: « Partons, mettons-nous en route; je marcherai devant toi. »
13 And Jacob seide, My lord, thou knowist that Y haue litle children tendre, and scheep, and kien with calue with me, and if Y schal make hem for to trauele more in goynge, alle the flockis schulen die in o dai;
Jacob répondit: « Mon seigneur sait que les enfants sont délicats, et que je suis chargé de brebis et de vaches qui allaitent; si on les pressait un seul jour, tout le troupeau périrait.
14 my lord go bifore his seruaunt, and Y schal sue litil and litil hise steppis, as I shal se that my litle children mown, til Y come to my lord, in to Seir.
Que mon seigneur prenne les devants sur son serviteur, et moi, je suivrai doucement, au pas du troupeau qui marche devant moi, et au pas des enfants, jusqu’à ce que j’arrive chez mon seigneur, à Séir. »
15 Esau answeride, Y preie thee, that of the puple which is with me, nameli felowis of thi weie dwelle. Jacob seide, It is no nede; Y haue nede to this o thing oneli, that Y fynde grace in thi siyt, my lord.
Esaü dit: « Permets du moins que je laisse auprès de toi une partie des gens qui sont avec moi. » Jacob répondit: « Pourquoi cela? Que je trouve grâce aux yeux de mon seigneur. »
16 And so Esau turnede ayen in that dai in the weie bi which he cam, in to Seir.
Et Esaü reprit ce jour-là le chemin de Séir.
17 And Jacob cam in to Sochot, where whanne he hadde bildid an hows, and hadde set tentis, he clepide the name of that place Sochot, that is, tabernaclis.
Jacob partit pour Socoth et il se construisit une maison. Il fit aussi des cabanes pour ses troupeaux; c’est pourquoi on a appelé ce lieu Socoth.
18 And Jacob passide in to Salem, a citee of Sichimis, whiche is in the lond of Canaan, aftir that he turnede ayen fro Mesopotanye of Sirie, and he dwellide besidis the citee.
À son retour de Paddan-Aram, Jacob arriva heureusement à la ville de Sichem, au pays de Chanaan, et il campa devant la ville.
19 And he bouyte for an hundrid lambren a part of the feeld, in which he settide tabernaclis, of the sones of Emor, fadir of Sichem.
Il acheta des fils de Hémor, père de Sichem, pour cent késitas, la pièce de terre où il avait dressé sa tente;
20 And whanne he hadde reisid an auter there, he inwardly clepide on it the strongeste God of Israel.
il éleva là un autel, et l’appela El-Elohé-Israël.
