Genesis 30

1 Forsothe Rachel seiy, that sche was vnfruytful, and hadde enuye to the sister, and seide to hir hosebonde, Yyue thou fre children to me, ellis Y schal die.

Cependant, Rachel, voyant qu'elle n'enfantait point pour Jacob, fut jalouse de sa sœur, et elle dit à Jacob: Donne-moi des enfants, sinon je mourrai.

2 To whom Jacob was wrooth, and answerde, Wher Y am for God, which haue priued thee fro the fruyt of thi wombe?

Jacob, irrité contre Rachel, lui dit: Suis-je l'égal de Dieu, qui t'a privé de fruits de tes entrailles?

3 And sche seide, Y haue `a seruauntesse Bala, entre thou to hir that she childe on my knees, and that Y haue sones of hir.

Et Rachel dit à Jacob: Voici ma servante Balla approche-toi d'elle, elle enfantera sur mes genoux, et par elle, moi aussi, j'aurai des enfants.

4 And sche yaf to hym Bala in to matrimony;

Elle lui donna donc pour femme Balla, sa servante, et Jacob s'approcha d'elle.

5 and whanne the hosebonde hadde entrid to hir, sche conseyuede, and childide a sone.

Et Balla, la servante de Rachel, conçut, et elle enfanta à Jacob un fils.

6 And Rachel seide, the Lord demede to me, and herde my preier, and yaf a sone to me; and therfor sche clepide his name Dan.

Le Seigneur m'a jugée, dit alors Rachel, il a entendu ma voix, et il m'a donné un fils; c'est pourquoi elle donna à l'enfant le nom de Dan.

7 And eft Bala conseyuede, and childide anothir sone,

Balla, la servante de Rachel, conçut encore, et elle enfanta à Jacob un second fils.

8 for whom Rachel seide, The Lord hath maad me lijk to my sistir, and Y wexide strong; and sche clepide hym Neptalym.

Et Rachel dit: Le Seigneur m'a secourue; j'ai lutté contre ma sœur et j'ai prévalu; en conséquence elle donna à l'enfant le nom de Nephthali.

9 Lya feelide that sche ceesside to bere child, and sche yaf Selfa, hir handmayde, to the hosebonde.

Lia, voyant qu'elle avait cessé d'enfanter, prit Zelpha, sa servante, et la donna pour femme à Jacob, qui s'approcha d'elle.

10 And whanne Selfa aftir conseyuyng childide a sone, Lya seide, Blessidly;

Et Zelpha, la servante de Lia, conçut; elle enfanta à Jacob un fils.

11 and therfor sche clepide his name Gad.

Et Lia dit: À la bonne heure; et elle le nomma Gad.

12 Also Selfa childide anothir sone,

Zolpha, la servante de Lia, conçut encore, et elle enfanta à Jacob un second fils.

13 and Lia seide, This is for my blis, for alle wymmen schulen seie me blessid; therfor sche clepide hym Aser.

Et Lia dit: Heureuse je suis, car les femmes m'estiment heureuse; et elle le nomma Aser.

14 Forsothe Ruben yede out in to the feeld in the tyme of wheete heruest, and foond mandragis, whiche he brouyte to Lya, his modir. And Rachel seide, Yyue thou to me a part of the mandragis of thi sone.

Or, un jour Ruben sortit pendant la moisson du froment, et il trouva dans le champ des fruits de mandragores, et il les apporta à Lia sa mère, et Rachel dit à sa sœur Lia: Donne-moi des mandragores de ton fils.

15 Lya answeride, Whether it semeth litil to thee, that thou hast rauyschid the hosebonde fro me, no but thou take also the mandragis of my sone? Rachel seide, The hosebonde sleepe with thee in this nyyt for the mandragis of thi sone.

Et Lia lui dit: N'est-ce pas assez pour toi de n'avoir pris mon époux; me prendras-tu encore les mandragores de mon fils? Ce n'est pas ce que j'entends, dit Rachel; que Jacob dorme cette nuit avec toi pour prix des mandragores de ton fils.

16 And whanne Jacob cam ayen fro the feeld at euentid, Lya yede out in to his comyng, and seide, Thou shalt entre to me, for Y haue hired thee with hire for the mandragis of my sone. He slepte with hir in that nyyt;

Lors donc que Jacob revint du champ le soir, Lia sortit à sa rencontre, et lui dit: Tu t'approcheras aujourd'hui de moi, car je t'ai obtenu, pour les mandragores de ton fils; et il dormit cette nuit avec elle.

17 and God herde hir preiers, and sche conseyuede, and childide the fyuethe sone;

Dieu exauça Lia; elle conçut, et elle enfanta à Jacob un cinquième fils,

18 and seide, God yaf meede to me, for Y yaf myn handmayde to myn hosebond; and sche clepide his name Isacar.

Et elle dit: Le Seigneur m'a récompensée d'avoir donné ma servante à mon époux; elle nomma donc l'enfant Issachar c'est-à-dire récompense.

19 Eft Lia conseyuede, and childide the sixte sone,

Lia conçut encore, et elle enfanta à Jacob un sixième fils.

20 and seide, The Lord hath maad me riche with a good dower, also in this tyme myn hosebonde schal be with me, for Y childide sixe sones to hym; and therfore sche clepide his name Sabulon.

Alors elle dit: Le Seigneur vient de me faire un don précieux: mon époux m'aimera, parce que je lui ai donné un sixième fils; et elle nomma celui-ci Zabulon.

21 Aftir whom sche childide a douyter, Dyna bi name.

Après cela, elle enfanta une fille qu'elle appela Dina.

22 Also the Lord hadde mynde on Rachel, and herde hir, and openyde hir wombe.

Cependant, Dieu se souvint de Rachel; il l'exauça, et lui ouvrit les entrailles.

23 And sche conseyuede, and childide a sone, and seide, God hath take a wey my schenschipe; and sche clepid his name Joseph,

Elle conçut donc, et enfanta à Jacob un fils; et Rachel dit: Dieu a effacé mon opprobre.

24 and seide, The Lord yyue to me another sone.

Elle nomma l'enfant Joseph, et elle dit: Que Dieu m'accorde encore un fils.

25 Sotheli whanne Joseph was borun, Jacob seide to his wyues fadir, Delyuere thou me, that Y turne ayen in to my cuntrey and to my lond.

Or, il arriva qu'après que Rachel eut enfanté Joseph, Jacob dit à Laban: Congédie-moi, que je retourne en mon lieu natal, en mon pays.

26 Yyue thou to me my wyues and fre children for whiche Y seruede thee, that Y go; forsothe thou knowist the seruyce bi which Y seruede thee.

Rends-moi mes femmes et mes enfants pour lesquels je t'ai servi; qu'enfin je parte, car tu sais la servitude à laquelle je me suis assujetti pour toi.

27 Laban seide to hym, Fynde Y grace in thi siyt, Y haue lerned bi experience that God blesside me for thee;

Laban lui dit: Si j'ai trouvé grâce devant toi, puisque j'ai expérimenté que Dieu m'a béni depuis ton arrivée,

28 ordeyne thou the meede which Y schal yyue to thee.

Fixe-moi ta récompense, et tu l'auras.

29 And he answeride, Thou woost hou Y seruede thee, and hou greet thi possessioun was in myn hondis;

Tu sais, répondit Jacob, combien je l'ai servi, et ce qu'est devenu ton bétail avec moi.

30 thou haddist litil bifore that Y cam to thee, and now thou art maad riche, and the Lord blesside thee at myn entryng; therfor it is iust that Y purueye sum tyme also to myn hows.

Car avant moi tu en avais peu, et il s'est multiplié grandement; le Seigneur Dieu t'a béni sous mes pas. Maintenant donc, quand me ferai-je aussi une maison?

31 And Laban seide, What schal Y yyue to thee? And Jacob seide, Y wole no thing but if thou doist that that Y axe, eft Y schal fede and kepe thi scheep.

Et Laban lui dit: Que te donnerai-je? Jacob répondit: Tu ne me donneras rien, si tu consens à ce que je vais te dire, je paîtrai encore tes troupeaux et je les garderai.

32 Cumpasse thou alle thi flockis, and departe thou alle diuerse scheep and of spottid flees, and what euer thing schal be dun, and spottid, and dyuerse, as wel in scheep as in geet, it schal be my mede.

Fais-les tous passer aujourd'hui devant nous; puis sépare désormais, parmi les agneaux, tout rejeton brun, et parmi les chèvres, tout rejeton mêlé de blanc ou tacheté; ce sera ma récompense.

33 And my riytfulnesse schal answere to me to morewe, whanne the tyme of couenaunt schal come bifor thee; and alle that ben not dyuerse and spottid and dunne, as well in sheep as in geet, schulen repreue me of thefte.

Dès demain ma justice me servira, puisque telle est avec toi ma récompense. Que tout ce qui chez moi ne sera pas tacheté ou mêlé de blanc parmi les chèvres, ni brun parmi les agneaux, me soit imputé à larcin.

34 And Laban seide, Y haue acceptable that that thou axist.

Et Laban lui dit: Qu'il soit fait selon ta parole.

35 And he departide in that dai the geet, and scheep, geet buckis, and rammes, dyuerse and spottid. Sothely he bitook al the flok of o coloure, that is, of white and of blak flees in the hond of hise sones;

Dès ce jour-là, il sépara de ses troupeaux les boucs tachetés et mêlés de blanc, les chèvres tachetées et mêlées de blanc, les agneaux bruns mis à part des blancs, et il les confia à ses fils.

36 and he settide the space of weie of thre daies bitwixe hise sones and the hosebonde of hise douytris, that fedde othere flockis` of hym.

Et il mit trois journées de marche entre ses fils et Jacob. Or, Jacob paissait le reste des troupeaux de Laban.

37 Therfor Jacob took greene yerdis of popeleris, and of almoundis, and of planes, and in parti dide awei the rynde of tho, and whanne the ryndis weren `drawun a wei, whitnesse apperide in these that weren maad bare; sothely tho that weren hoole dwelliden grene, and bi this maner the coloure was maad dyuerse.

Et Jacob prit une baguette verte de styrax, une autre de noyer et une de platane, et les ayant dépouillées jusqu'à l'écorce blanche, il laissa tout autour une bande d'écorce verte, en sorte que le blanc, mis à découvert, les fit paraître toutes bigarrées.

38 And Jacob puttide tho yerdis in the trowis, where the watir was held out, that whanne the flockis schulden come to drynke, thei schulden haue the yerdis bifor the iyen, and schulden conseyue in the siyt of the yerdis.

Il mit les baguettes écorcées dans les cannaux des abreuvoirs, afin que quand les troupeaux viendraient boire de l'eau, les femelles conçussent devant elles;

39 And it was doon that in thilke heete of riding the sheep schulde biholde the yerdis, and that thei schulden brynge forth spotti beestis, and dyuerse, and bispreynt with dyuerse colour.

Et les femelles conçurent devant les baguettes, et elles mirent bas des petits mêlés de blanc, ou bigarrés, ou cendrés-tachetés.

40 And Jacob departide the floc, and puttide the yerdis in the trowis bifor the iyen of the rammys. Sotheli alle the white and blake weren Labans; sotheli the othere weren Jacobis; for the flockis weren departid bytwixe hem silf.

Et Jacob sépara les agneaux: il plaça en avant des troupeaux tout mâle mêlé de blanc, tout agneau bigarré, et il prit pour lui les rejetons qui devaient lui revenir, sans les mêler avec les troupeaux de Laban.

41 Therfor whanne the scheep weren ridun in the firste tyme, Jacob puttide the yerdis in the `trouyis of watir bifor the iyen of rammys and of scheep, that thei schulden conseyue in the siyt of tho yerdis.

Lorsque venait le temps où concevaient les mères, Jacob plaçait les baguettes devant les troupeaux dans les abreuvoirs, pour que les femelles conçussent en face des baguettes.

42 Forsothe whanne the late medlyng and the laste conseyuyng weren, Jacob puttide not tho yerdis; and tho that weren late, weren maad Labans, and tho that weren of the firste tyme weren Jacobis.

Et quand les femelles avaient enfanté, il n'en plaçait plus. Il advint donc que les rejetons sans marque appartinrent à Laban; ceux qui étaient marqués appartinrent à Jacob.

43 And he was maad ful riche, and hadde many flockis, handmaydis, and seruauntis, camels, and assis.

Et l'homme s'enrichit beaucoup, beaucoup; il eut quantité de bétail, et des bœufs, et des serviteurs et des servantes, et des chameaux et des ânes.
