Genesis 29
1 Therfor Jacob passide forth, and cam in to the eest lond;
Jacob se apresuró y se puso en marcha, y llegó a la tierra de los orientales.
2 and seiy a pit in the feeld, and thre flockis of scheep restynge bisidis it, for whi scheep weren watrid therof, and the mouth therof was closid with a greet stoon.
Al contemplar a su alrededor, vio un pozo en un campo y a tres rebaños de ovejas acostadas junto a él, esperando recibir agua. Una gran piedra cubría la boca del pozo.
3 And the custom was that whanne alle scheep weren gaderid togidere, thei schulden turne awei the stoon, and whanne the flockis weren fillid thei schulden put it eft on the mouth of the pit.
La práctica común era que cuando todos los rebaños llegaban, los pastores rodaban la piedra de la boca del pozo y le daban agua a las ovejas, y luego colocaban la piedra en su lugar nuevamente.
4 And Jacob seide to the scheepherdis, Brithren, of whennus ben ye? Whiche answeriden, Of Aran.
Y Jacob les preguntó: “Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde son ustedes?” “Somos de Harán”, respondieron.
5 And he axide hem and seide, Wher ye knowen Laban, the sone of Nachor? Thei seiden, We knowen.
“¿Conocen a Labán, el nieto de Nacor?” les preguntó. “Si, lo conocemos”, respondieron.
6 Jacob seide, Is he hool? Thei seiden, He is in good staat; and lo! Rachel, his douytir, cometh with his flok.
“¿Cómo está él?” preguntó. “Está bien”, respondieron. “¡Mira! De hecho, la que viene allí con las ovejas es su hija Raquel”.
7 And Jacob seide, Yit myche of the dai is to come, and it is not tyme that the flockis be led ayen to the fooldis; sotheli yyue ye drynk to the scheep, and so lede ye hem ayen to mete.
“Todavía es temprano”, dijo Jacob. “Es muy pronto para guardar las ovejas. ¿Por qué no les dan agua de beber y las dejan pastar un poco más?”
8 Whiche answeriden, We moun not til alle scheep be gederid to gidere, and til we remouen the stoon fro the mouth of the pit to watir the flockis.
“No podemos hasta que hayan llegado todos los rebaños”, le dijeron los pastores. “Entonces rodamos la piedra del pozo y las dejamos beber agua”.
9 Yit thei spaken, and lo! Rachel cam with the scheep of hir fadir.
Mientras aún hablaban, llegó Raquel con el rebaño que pastoreaba para su padre.
10 And whanne Jacob seiy hir, and knewe the douytir of his modris brothir, and the scheep of Laban his vncle, he remeuyde the stoon with which the pit was closid;
Cuando Jacob vio a Raquel, la hija de Labán, que era el hermano de su madre, subió y rodó la piedra del pozo para que las ovejas de Labán pudieran beber agua.
11 and whanne the flok was watrid, he kisside hir, and he wepte with `vois reisid.
Entonces Jacob besó a Raquel y lloró de alegría.
12 And he schewide to hir that he was the brothir of hir fadir, and the sone of Rebecca; and sche hastide, and telde to hir fadir.
(Le había dicho ya que él era el hijo del hermano de Labán y de Rebeca). Y ella corrió y le contó a su padre lo que había sucedido.
13 And whanne he hadde herd, that Jacob, the sone of his sistir, cam, he ran ayens hym, and he biclippide Jacob and kisside hym, and ledde in to his hows. Forsothe whanne the causis of the iurney weren herd,
Tan pronto como Labán escuchó la noticia acerca de Jacob, salió corriendo a su encuentro. Lo abrazó y lo besó, y se lo llevó a casa. Después de que Jacob le explicó todo a Labán,
14 Laban answeride, Thou art my boon and my fleisch. And aftir that the daies of o moneth weren fillid, Laban seide to him,
Labán le dijo: “¡No hay duda alguna, eres carne de mi carne y sangre de mi sangre!” Y Jacob se quedó con Labán durante un mes.
15 `Whethir for thou art my brothir, thou schalt serue me frely? seie thou what mede thou schalt take.
Un día, Labán le dijo: “¡Eres mi pariente, así que no es justo que trabajes sin una compensación por ello! Dime entonces, ¿cuánto debo pagarte?”
16 Forsothe Laban hadde twei douytris, the name of the more was Lya, sotheli the lesse was clepid Rachel;
Labán tenía dos hijas. La mayor se llamaba Lea, y la más joven se llamaba Raquel.
17 but Lya was blere iyed, Rachel was of fair face, and semeli in siyt.
Lea tenía ojos que expresaban amabilidad, pero Raquel tenía un cuerpo armonioso y una apariencia hermosa.
18 And Jacob louede Rachel, and seide, Y schal serue thee seuene yeer for Rachel thi lesse douytir.
Jacob se enamoró de Raquel, así que le prometió a Labán: “Trabajaré siete años para ti por Raquel, tu hija menor”.
19 Laban answeride, It is betere that Y yyue hir to thee than to anothir man; dwelle thou at me.
“Pues para mi es mejor dártela a ti que a cualquier otro”, respondió Labán. “Así que quédate y trabaja para mi”.
20 Therfor Jacob seruyde seuene yeer for Rachel; and the daies semyden fewe to hym for the greetnesse of loue.
Y Jacob trabajó para Labán por siete años, pero para él fueron como días, porque realmente la amaba.
21 And he seide to Laban, Yyue thou my wijf to me, for the tyme is fillid that Y entre to hir.
Entonces Jacob le dijo a Labán: “Ha llegado el tiempo que acordamos. Ahora dame a tu hija para que sea mi esposa”.
22 And whanne many cumpenyes of freendis weren clepid to the feeste, he made weddyngis,
Y Labán organizó un banquete de bodas y invitó a todos para que vinieran al banquete.
23 and in the euentid Laban brouyte in to hym Lya his douytir,
Pero al caer la noche, Labán trajo donde Jacob a su hija Lea, y Jacob se acostó con ella.
24 and yaf an handmaide, Selfa bi name, to the douyter. And whanne Jacob hadde entrid to hir bi custom, whanne the morewtid was maad, he seiy Lya,
(Labán se había encargado de que su sierva Zilpá fuera la criada personal de Lea).
25 and seide to his wyues fadir, What is it that thou woldist do? wher Y seruede not thee for Rachel? whi hast thou disseyued me?
¡Al amanecer, Jacob se dio cuenta de que era Lea! Así que fue donde Labán y con enojo le preguntó: “¿Qué me has hecho? ¡Trabajé para ti por Raquel! ¿Por qué me has engañado?”
26 Laban answerde, It is not custom in oure place that we yyue first the `lesse douytris to weddyngis;
“Aquí no entregamos a la hija menor en matrimonio antes que a la hija mayor”, respondió Labán.
27 fille thou the wouke of daies of this couplyng, and Y schal yyue to thee also this Rachel, for the werk in which thou schalt serue me bi othere seuene yeer.
“Deja que la semana de celebración por la boda termine, y entonces te daré a mi otra hija también, pero con la condición de que trabajes siete años más para mi”.
28 Jacob assentide to the couenaunt, and whanne the wouke was passid,
Jacob estuvo de acuerdo. Terminó la semana de celebración por la boda con Lea, y entonces Labán le dio a su hija Raquel como esposa también.
29 he weddide Rachel, to whom the fadir hadde youe Bala seruauntesse.
(Labán también se encargó de que su sierva Bila fuera la criada personal de Raquel).
30 And at the laste he vside the weddyngis desirid, and settide the loue of the `wijf suynge bifore the former; and he seruede at Laban seuene othere yeer.
Así que Jacob se acostó con Raquel, y amó a Raquel más que a Lea. Y trabajó para Labán siete años más por Raquel.
31 Forsothe the Lord seiy that he dispiside Lya, and openyde hir wombe while the sistir dwellide bareyn.
Y el Señor vio que Lea no era amada, y la ayudó a tener hijos. Pero no hizo lo mismo con Raquel.
32 And Lia childide a sone conseyued, and clepide his name Ruben, and seide, The Lord seiy my mekenesse; now myn hosebonde schal loue me.
Así que Lea quedó embarazada, y tuvo un hijo a quien llamó Rubén, pues dijo: “¡El Señor vio lo mucho que he sufrido y ahora mi esposo me amará!”
33 And eft sche conseyuede, `and childide a sone, and seide, For the Lord seiy that Y was dispisid, he yaf also this sone to me; and sche clepide his name Symeon.
Entonces Lea volvió a quedar embarazada, y tuvo un hijo. Y dijo: “El Señor ha esuchado que no soy amada, y me ha dado otro hijo”. Así que le puso por nombre Simeón.
34 And sche conseyuede the thridde tyme, and childide anothir sone, and she seide also, Now myn hosebonde schal be couplid to me, for Y childide thre sones to him; and therfor sche clepide his name Leuy.
Lea volvió a quedar embarazada por tercera vez, y tuvo otro hijo. Y dijo: “Finalmente mi esposo se sentirá unido a mi, porque ahora le he dado tres hijos”. Por eso le puso por nombre Leví.
35 The fourthe tyme sche conseyuede, and childide a sone, and seide, Now I schal knouleche to the Lord; and herfor she clepide his name Judas; and ceesside to childe.
Una vez más, Lea quedó embarazada y tuvo otro hijo. Lo llamó Judá, pues dijo: “¡Ahora realmente puedo alabar al Señor!” Y no tuvo más hijos después de esto.
