Genesis 29
1 Therfor Jacob passide forth, and cam in to the eest lond;
| یعقوب به سفر خود ادامه داد تا به سرزمین مردمان مشرق رسید. |
2 and seiy a pit in the feeld, and thre flockis of scheep restynge bisidis it, for whi scheep weren watrid therof, and the mouth therof was closid with a greet stoon.
| در صحرا چاهی دید که سه گلۀ گوسفند کنار آن خوابیده بودند، زیرا از آن چاه، به گله‌ها آب می‌دادند. اما سنگی بزرگ بر دهانۀ چاه قرار داشت. |
3 And the custom was that whanne alle scheep weren gaderid togidere, thei schulden turne awei the stoon, and whanne the flockis weren fillid thei schulden put it eft on the mouth of the pit.
| (رسم بر این بود که وقتی همهٔ گله‌ها جمع می‌شدند، آن سنگ را از سر چاه برمی‌داشتند و پس از سیراب کردن گله‌ها، دوباره سنگ را بر سر چاه می‌غلتانیدند.) |
4 And Jacob seide to the scheepherdis, Brithren, of whennus ben ye? Whiche answeriden, Of Aran.
| یعقوب نزد چوپانان رفت و از آنها پرسید که از کجا هستند. گفتند از حران هستند. |
5 And he axide hem and seide, Wher ye knowen Laban, the sone of Nachor? Thei seiden, We knowen.
| به ایشان گفت: «آیا لابان نوۀ ناحور را می‌شناسید؟» گفتند: «بله، او را می‌شناسیم.» |
6 Jacob seide, Is he hool? Thei seiden, He is in good staat; and lo! Rachel, his douytir, cometh with his flok.
| یعقوب پرسید: «حالِ او خوب است؟» گفتند: «بله، حالش خوب است. اینک دخترش راحیل نیز با گله‌اش می‌آید.» |
7 And Jacob seide, Yit myche of the dai is to come, and it is not tyme that the flockis be led ayen to the fooldis; sotheli yyue ye drynk to the scheep, and so lede ye hem ayen to mete.
| یعقوب گفت: «هنوز تا غروب خیلی مانده است. چرا به گوسفندها آب نمی‌دهید تا دوباره بروند و بچرند؟» |
8 Whiche answeriden, We moun not til alle scheep be gederid to gidere, and til we remouen the stoon fro the mouth of the pit to watir the flockis.
| جواب دادند: «تا همهٔ گله‌ها سر چاه نیایند ما نمی‌توانیم سنگ را برداریم و گله‌هایمان را سیراب کنیم.» |
9 Yit thei spaken, and lo! Rachel cam with the scheep of hir fadir.
| در حالی که این گفتگو ادامه داشت، راحیل با گلهٔ پدرش سر رسید، زیرا او نیز چوپان بود. |
10 And whanne Jacob seiy hir, and knewe the douytir of his modris brothir, and the scheep of Laban his vncle, he remeuyde the stoon with which the pit was closid;
| وقتی یعقوب دختر دایی خود، راحیل را دید که با گله لابان می‌آید، سنگ را از سر چاه برداشت و گلهٔ او را سیراب نمود. |
11 and whanne the flok was watrid, he kisside hir, and he wepte with `vois reisid.
| سپس یعقوب، راحیل را بوسیده، با صدای بلند شروع به گریستن نمود! |
12 And he schewide to hir that he was the brothir of hir fadir, and the sone of Rebecca; and sche hastide, and telde to hir fadir.
| یعقوب خود را معرفی کرد و گفت که خویشاوند پدرش و پسر ربکاست. راحیل به محض شنیدن سخنان او، دوان‌دوان به منزل شتافت و پدرش را باخبر کرد. |
13 And whanne he hadde herd, that Jacob, the sone of his sistir, cam, he ran ayens hym, and he biclippide Jacob and kisside hym, and ledde in to his hows. Forsothe whanne the causis of the iurney weren herd,
| چون لابان خبر آمدن خواهرزادهٔ خود یعقوب را شنید به استقبالش شتافت و او را در آغوش گرفته، بوسید و به خانهٔ خود آورد. آنگاه یعقوب داستان خود را برای او شرح داد. |
14 Laban answeride, Thou art my boon and my fleisch. And aftir that the daies of o moneth weren fillid, Laban seide to him,
| لابان به او گفت: «تو از گوشت و استخوان من هستی!» یک ماه بعد از آمدن یعقوب، |
15 `Whethir for thou art my brothir, thou schalt serue me frely? seie thou what mede thou schalt take.
| لابان به او گفت: «تو نباید به دلیل اینکه خویشاوند من هستی برای من مجانی کار کنی. بگو چقدر مزد به تو بدهم؟» |
16 Forsothe Laban hadde twei douytris, the name of the more was Lya, sotheli the lesse was clepid Rachel;
| لابان دو دختر داشت که نام دختر بزرگ لَیه و نام دختر کوچک راحیل بود. |
17 but Lya was blere iyed, Rachel was of fair face, and semeli in siyt.
| لیه چشمانی ضعیف داشت، اما راحیل زیبا و خوش‌اندام بود. |
18 And Jacob louede Rachel, and seide, Y schal serue thee seuene yeer for Rachel thi lesse douytir.
| یعقوب عاشق راحیل شده بود. پس به لابان گفت: «اگر راحیل، دختر کوچکت را به همسری به من بدهی، هفت سال برای تو کار خواهم کرد.» |
19 Laban answeride, It is betere that Y yyue hir to thee than to anothir man; dwelle thou at me.
| لابان جواب داد: «قبول می‌کنم. ترجیح می‌دهم دخترم را به تو که از بستگانم هستی بدهم تا به یک بیگانه.» |
20 Therfor Jacob seruyde seuene yeer for Rachel; and the daies semyden fewe to hym for the greetnesse of loue.
| یعقوب برای ازدواج با راحیل هفت سال برای لابان کار کرد، ولی به قدری راحیل را دوست می‌داشت که این سالها در نظرش چند روز آمد. |
21 And he seide to Laban, Yyue thou my wijf to me, for the tyme is fillid that Y entre to hir.
| آنگاه یعقوب به لابان گفت: «مدت قرارداد ما تمام شده و موقع آن رسیده است که راحیل را به زنی بگیرم.» |
22 And whanne many cumpenyes of freendis weren clepid to the feeste, he made weddyngis,
| لابان همهٔ مردم آنجا را دعوت کرده، ضیافتی بر پا نمود. |
23 and in the euentid Laban brouyte in to hym Lya his douytir,
| وقتی هوا تاریک شد، لابان دختر خود لیه را به حجله فرستاد و یعقوب با وی همبستر شد. |
24 and yaf an handmaide, Selfa bi name, to the douyter. And whanne Jacob hadde entrid to hir bi custom, whanne the morewtid was maad, he seiy Lya,
| (لابان کنیزی به نام زلفه به لیه داد تا او را خدمت کند.) |
25 and seide to his wyues fadir, What is it that thou woldist do? wher Y seruede not thee for Rachel? whi hast thou disseyued me?
| اما صبح روز بعد، یعقوب به جای راحیل، لیه را در حجلهٔ خود یافت. پس رفته، به لابان گفت: «این چه کاری بود که با من کردی؟ من هفت سال برای تو کار کردم تا راحیل را به من بدهی. چرا مرا فریب دادی؟» |
26 Laban answerde, It is not custom in oure place that we yyue first the `lesse douytris to weddyngis;
| لابان جواب داد: «رسم ما بر این نیست که دختر کوچکتر را زودتر از دختر بزرگتر شوهر بدهیم. |
27 fille thou the wouke of daies of this couplyng, and Y schal yyue to thee also this Rachel, for the werk in which thou schalt serue me bi othere seuene yeer.
| صبر کن تا هفتهٔ عروسی لیه بگذرد، بعد راحیل را نیز به زنی بگیر، مشروط بر اینکه قول بدهی هفت سال دیگر برایم کار کنی.» |
28 Jacob assentide to the couenaunt, and whanne the wouke was passid,
| یعقوب قبول کرد و لابان پس از پایان هفتهٔ عروسی لیه، دختر کوچک خود راحیل را هم به یعقوب داد. |
29 he weddide Rachel, to whom the fadir hadde youe Bala seruauntesse.
| (لابان کنیزی به نام بلهه به راحیل داد تا او را خدمت کند.) |
30 And at the laste he vside the weddyngis desirid, and settide the loue of the `wijf suynge bifore the former; and he seruede at Laban seuene othere yeer.
| یعقوب با راحیل نیز همبستر شد و او را بیشتر از لیه دوست می‌داشت و به خاطر او هفت سال دیگر برای لابان کار کرد. |
31 Forsothe the Lord seiy that he dispiside Lya, and openyde hir wombe while the sistir dwellide bareyn.
| وقتی خداوند دید که یعقوب لیه را دوست ندارد، لیه را مورد لطف خود قرار داد و او بچه‌دار شد، ولی راحیل نازا ماند. |
32 And Lia childide a sone conseyued, and clepide his name Ruben, and seide, The Lord seiy my mekenesse; now myn hosebonde schal loue me.
| آنگاه لیه حامله شد و پسری زایید. او گفت: «خداوند مصیبت مرا دیده است و بعد از این شوهرم مرا دوست خواهد داشت.» پس او را رئوبین نامید، زیرا گفت: «خداوند مصیبت مرا دیده است، اکنون شوهرم مرا دوست خواهد داشت.» |
33 And eft sche conseyuede, `and childide a sone, and seide, For the Lord seiy that Y was dispisid, he yaf also this sone to me; and sche clepide his name Symeon.
| او بار دیگر حامله شده، پسری به دنیا آورد و او را شمعون نامید، زیرا گفت: «خداوند شنید که من مورد بی‌مهری قرار گرفته‌ام و پسر دیگری به من داد.» |
34 And sche conseyuede the thridde tyme, and childide anothir sone, and she seide also, Now myn hosebonde schal be couplid to me, for Y childide thre sones to him; and therfor sche clepide his name Leuy.
| لیه باز هم حامله شد و پسری به دنیا آورد و او را لاوی نامید، زیرا گفت: «اینک مطمئناً شوهرم به من دلبسته خواهد شد، زیرا این سومین پسری است که برایش به دنیا آورده‌ام.» |
35 The fourthe tyme sche conseyuede, and childide a sone, and seide, Now I schal knouleche to the Lord; and herfor she clepide his name Judas; and ceesside to childe.
| بار دیگر او حامله شد و پسری به دنیا آورد و او را یهودا نامید، زیرا گفت: «این بار خداوند را ستایش خواهم نمود.» آنگاه لیه از زاییدن بازایستاد. |
