Genesis 26
1 Forsothe for hungur roos on the lond, aftir thilke bareynesse that bifelde in the daies of Abraham, Isaac yede forth to Abymelech, kyng of Palestyns, in Gerara.
Y hubo un gran hambruna en el país, no la misma que la que ocurrió en el tiempo de Abraham, sino más tarde. Así que Isaac se mudó a Gerar, en el territorio de Abimelec, rey de los filisteos.
2 And the Lord apperide to hym, and seide, Go not doun in to Egipt, but reste thou in the lond which Y schal seie to thee,
El Señor se le apareció a Isaac y le dijo: “No vayas a Egipto, sino al país que yo te mostraré.
3 and be thou a pilgrym ther ynne; and Y schal be with thee, and Y schal blesse thee; for Y schal yyue alle these cuntrees to thee and to thi seed, and Y schal fille the ooth which Y bihiyte to Abraham, thi fadir.
Quédate aquí en este país. Yo estaré contigo y te bendeciré, porque voy a darte a ti y a tus descendientes todas estas tierras. Yo guardaré la promesa solemne que yo le juré a tu padre Abraham.
4 And Y schal multiplie thi seed as the sterris of heuene, and Y schal yyue alle these thingis to thin eyris, and alle folkis of erthe schulen be blessid in thi seed, for Abraham obeide to my vois,
Yo haré que tu descendencia sea tan numerosa como las estrellas del cielo, y les daré todas estas tierras. Todas las naciones de la tierra serán benditas por tus descendientes,
5 and kepte `my preceptis and comaundementis, and kepte cerymonyes and lawis.
porque Abraham hizo lo que yo le dije, y siguió mis órdenes, mis mandamientos, mis preceptos y mis leyes”.
6 And so Ysaac dwellide in Geraris.
Así que Isaac se quedó en Gerar.
7 And whanne he was axid of men of that place of his wijf, he answarde, Sche is my sistir; for he dredde to knowleche that sche was felouschipid to hym in matrymonye, and gesside lest peraduenture thei wolden sle him for the fairnesse of hir.
Cuando los hombres de esa tierra le preguntaron por su esposa, él respondió diciendo: “Ella es mi hermana”, porque tuvo miedo. Pues pensó para sí mismo: “Si digo que ella es mi esposa, me matarán para quedarse con Rebeca, pues es muy hermosa”.
8 And whanne ful many daies weren passid, and he dwellide there, Abymelech, kyng of Palestyns, bihelde bi a wyndow, and seiy hym pleiynge with Rebecca, his wijf.
Pero más tarde, después de haber vivido allí por un tiempo, Abimelec, rey de los filisteos, miró por la ventana y vio a Isaac acariciando a su esposa Rebeca.
9 And whanne Isaac was clepid, the kyng seide, It is opyn, that sche is thi wijf; whi liedist thou, that sche was thi sistir? Isaac answerde, Y dredde, lest Y schulde die for hir.
Abimelec entonces mandó a buscar a Isaac y le planteó su queja. “¿Según lo que vi, ella es claramente tu esposa!” le dijo. “¿Por qué decidiste decir ‘es mi hermana’?” “Porque pensé que me matarían por causa de ella”, respondió Isaac.
10 And Abymelech seide, Whi hast thou disseyued vs? Sum man of the puple myyte do letcherie with thi wijf, and thou haddist brouyt in greuous synne on vs. And the kyng comaundide to al the puple,
“¿Por qué nos hiciste esto?” le preguntó Abimelec. “¡Uno de los hombres aquí pudo haberse acostado con tu esposa, y tú nos habrías hecho culpables a todos!”
11 and seide, He that touchith the wijf of this man schal die bi deeth.
Abimelec emitió una orden a todo el pueblo, advirtiéndoles: “Cualquiera que toque a este hombre o a su esposa, será ejecutado”.
12 Forsothe Isaac sowide in that lond, and he foond an hundrid fold in that yeer; and the Lord blesside hym.
Isaac volvió a sembrar ese año, y el Señor lo bendijo con una cosecha que fue cien veces más grande que lo que había sembrado.
13 And the man was maad riche, and he yede profitynge and encreessynge til he was maad ful greet.
Se volvió un hombre rico, y su riqueza creciócontinuamente hasta que se volvió muy rico.
14 Also he hadde possessioun of scheep and grete beestis, and ful myche of meyne. For this thing Palestyns hadden enuye to hym,
Y poseía muchos rebaños de ovejas, manadas de bueyes, y muchos esclavos. Tanía tantas riquezas que los filisteos comenzaron a sentir celos de él.
15 and thei stoppiden in that tyme and filliden with erthe alle the pittis whiche the seruauntis of Abraham his fadir hadden diggid,
Así que los filisteos usaron basura para tapar todos los pozos que su Padre Abraham había cavado.
16 in so myche that Abymelech him silf seide to Ysaac, Go thou awei fro vs, for thou art maad greetly myytier than we.
Entonces Abimelec le dijo a Isaac: “Tienes que abandonar nuestro país, porque te has vuelto demasiado poderoso para nosotros”.
17 And he yede awei, that he schulde come to the stronde of Gerare, and dwelle there.
Así que Isaac se fue y estableció su campamentoen el valle de Gerar, donde se quedó a vivir.
18 And he diggide eft other pittis, whiche the seruauntis of Abraham his fadir hadden diggid, and whiche the Filisteis hadden stoppid sumtyme, whanne Abraham was deed; and he clepide tho pittis bi the same names, bi whiche his fadir hadde clepid bifore.
Allí destapó los pozos que había cavado su padre Abraham en su tiempo, los que los filisteos habían tapado después de la muerte de Abraham. Y les puso los mismos nombres que su padre les había puesto.
19 Thei diggiden in the stronde, and thei founden wellynge watir.
Los siervos de Isaac también cavaron un pozo en el valle y encontraron una fuente de agua.
20 But also strijf of scheepherdis of Gerare was there ayens the scheepherdis of Isaac, and thei seiden, The watir is oure; wherfor of that that bifelde he clepide the name of the pit fals chaleng.
Pero los pastores de Gerar comenzaron a tener discordias con los pastores de Isaac, diciendo: “¡Esa agua es nuestra!” Así que Isaac llamó a aquel pozo “Discordia”, porque allí tuvieron discordia con él.
21 And thei diggiden anothir, and thei stryueden also for that, and Ysaac clepide that pit enemytes.
Isaac tenía otro pozo cavado, y allí también hubo discordias. A ese pozo le llamó “Oposición”.
22 And he yede forth fro thennus, and diggide another pit, for which thei stryueden not, therfor he clepid the name of that pit largenesse; and seide, Now God hath alargid vs, and hath maad to encreesse on erthe.
Así que se fueron de allí y cavaron otro pozo. Esta vez no hubo ninguna discordia respecto a este pozo, y lo llamó “Libertad”, diciendo: “Ahora el Señor nos ha dado libertad para crecer y ser exitosos en esta tierra”.
23 Forsothe he stiede fro that place in to Bersabee,
De allí Isaac se fue hacia Beerseba.
24 where the Lord God apperide to him in that nyyt; and seide, Y am God of Abraham, thi fadir; nyle thou drede, for Y am with thee, and Y schal blesse thee, and Y schal multiplie thi seed for my seruaunt Abraham.
Y esa noche el Señor se le apareció y le dijo: “Yo soy el Dios de tu padre Abraham. No tengas miedo, porque yo estoy contigo. Te bendeciré y te daré muchos descendientes por causa de mi siervo Abraham”.
25 And so Ysaac bildide ther an auter to the Lord; and whanne the name of the Lord was inwardli clepid, he stretchide forth a tabernacle; and he comaundide hise seruauntis that thei schulden digge pittis.
Isaac entonces construyó un altar y adoró al Señor. También estableció sus tiendas, y sus siervos cavaron un pozo en ese lugar.
26 And whanne Abymelech, and Ochosat, hise frendis, and Ficol, duk of knyytis, hadden come fro Geraris to that place,
Algún tiempo después, Abimelec vino desde Gerar con su consejero Ahuzat y con Ficol, jefe de su ejército, para ver a Isaac.
27 Isaac spak to hem, What camen ye to me, a man whom ye hatiden, and puttiden awei fro you?
“¿Por qué han venido a verme?” les preguntó Isaac. “¡Antes me odiaban y me pidieron que me fuera!”
28 Whiche answeriden, We seiyen that God is with thee, and therfor we seiden now, An ooth be bitwixe vs, and make we a couenaunt of pees,
“Ahora nos hemos dado cuenta de que el Señor está contigo”, le respondieron. “Así que hemos decidido hacer un pacto contigo con juramento.
29 that thou do not ony yuel to vs, as we touchiden `not ony thing of thine, nethir diden that that hirtide thee, but with pees we leften thee encressid bi the blessyng of the Lord.
Tu nos prometerás que no nos harás daño, así como nosotros nunca te hemos hecho daño. Reconocerás que siempre te hemos tratado bien, y cuando te pedimos que te marcharas lo hicimos con bondad. ¡Y mira cómo el Señor te bendice ahora!”
30 Therfor Isaac made a feeste to hem; and after mete and drynk thei risen eerli,
Así que Isaac mandó a preparar una comida especial para celebrar este pacto. Comieron y bebieron,
31 and sworen ech to other; and Isaac lefte hem peisibli in to her place.
y se levantaron temprano en la mañana y cada uno hizo juramento al otro. Entonces Isaac los dejó ir, y ellos se fueron en paz.
32 Lo! forsothe in that dai the seruauntis of Ysaac camen, tellynge to him of the pit which thei hadden diggid, and seiden, We han foundun watir.
Ese fue el día en que los siervos de Isaac que habían estado cavando un pozo vinieron a decirle: “¡Hemos hallado agua!”
33 Wherfor Ysaac clepide that pit abundaunce; and the name of the citee was set Bersabee til in to present dai.
Así que Isaac llamó a ese pozo “juramento”, y por eso hasta el día de hoy, el nombre de esa ciudad es “Pozo del juramento” (Beerseba).
34 Esau forsothe fourti yeer eld weddide twei wyues, Judith, the douytir of Beeri Ethei, and Bethsamath, the douyter of Elon, of the same place;
Cuando Esaú cumplió 40 años, se casó con Judit, hija de Beri, el hitita, y también con Basemat, hija de Elón, el hitita.
35 whiche bothe offendiden the soule of Isaac and of Rebecca.
Y ellas le causaron muchas amarguras a Isaac y Rebeca.
