Genesis 23
1 Forsothe Sare lyuede an hundrid and seuene and twenti yeer,
Sara meninggal dunia pada usia 127 tahun di kota Kiryat Arba, yang sekarang disebut Hebron, di negeri Kanaan. Abraham berkabung dan menangisi kematian istrinya.
2 and diede in the citee of Arbee, which is Ebron, in the lond of Chanaan; and Abraham cam to biweyle and biwepe hir.
3 And whanne he hadde rise fro the office of the deed bodi, he spak to the sones of Heth, and seide,
Sesudah itu, Abraham meninggalkan jenazah istrinya dan pergi menemui orang-orang Het, penduduk asli negeri itu, lalu berkata kepada mereka,
4 Y am a comelyng and a pilgrym anentis you; yyue ye to me riyt of sepulcre with you, that Y birie my deed body.
“Saya hanyalah pendatang yang tinggal di antara kalian. Izinkanlah saya membeli sebidang tanah dari kalian untuk menguburkan jenazah istri saya.”
5 And the sones of Heth answeriden, and seiden, Lord, here thou vs;
Jawab mereka kepadanya,
6 thou art the prince of God anentis vs; birie thou thi deed bodi in oure chosun sepulcris, and no man schal mow forbede thee, that ne thou birie thi deed bodi in the sepulcre of him.
“Tuan, kami sudah menganggap engkau sebagai seorang penguasa yang hebat di antara kami. Silakan memilih tempat kuburan terbaik yang kami miliki, dan kuburkanlah istri Tuan di situ. Kami semua bersedia memberikan tempat mana pun yang Tuan mau secara cuma-cuma.”
7 And Abraham roos, and worschipide the puple of the lond, that is, the sones of Heth.
Maka Abraham bersujud untuk berterima kasih kepada mereka
8 And he seide to hem, If it plesith youre soule that Y birie my deed bodi, here ye me, and preie ye for me to Efron, the sone of Seor,
dan berkata, “Kalau begitu, tolong Saudara-saudara berbicara kepada Efron anak Zohar,
9 that he yyue to me the double caue, whiche he hath in the vttirmoste part of his feeld; for sufficiaunt money yyue he it to me bifore you into possessioun of sepulcre.
supaya dia menjual gua yang terletak di pinggir ladangnya di Makpela. Saya bersedia membayar sesuai harga jualnya, supaya gua itu menjadi milik saya. Dan biarlah kalian menjadi saksi atas pembelian itu.”
10 Forsothe Efron dwellide in the myddis of the sones of Heth. And Efron answerde to Abraham, while alle men herden that entriden bi the yate of that citee,
Kebetulan, Efron sedang duduk di antara orang-orang Het yang hadir di tempat pertemuan dekat pintu gerbang kota. Lalu di hadapan semua orang yang ada di situ, dia menjawab,
11 and seide, My lord, it schal not be doon so, but more herkne thou that that Y seie; Y yyue to thee the feeld, and the denne which is therine, while the sones of my puple ben present; birie thou thi deed bodi.
“Tidak usah, Tuan! Biarlah saudara sebangsaku sendiri, yakni semua orang Het yang ada di sini, menjadi saksi di antara kita berdua bahwa ladang beserta gua yang ada di dalamnya, di Makpela itu, saya berikan kepada Tuan dengan cuma-cuma! Silakan mengubur istri Tuan di sana.”
12 Abraham worschipide bifor the Lord, and bifor the puple of the lond,
Abraham kembali bersujud di hadapan orang-orang Het itu.
13 and he spak to Efron, while his puple stood aboute, Y biseche, that thou here me; Y schal yyue money for the feeld, resseyue thou it, and so Y schal birie my deed bodi in the feeld.
Kemudian, dengan didengar oleh semua orang yang ada di situ, dia berkata kepada Efron, “Mohon dengarkan saya! Saya ingin membeli ladang itu darimu sesuai harga jualnya. Terimalah tawaran ini supaya istri saya bisa dikuburkan di sana.”
14 And Efron answerde, My lord,
Jawab Efron kepada Abraham,
15 here thou me, the lond which thou axist is worth foure hundrid siclis of siluer, that is the prijs bitwixe me and thee, but hou myche is this? birie thou thi deed bodi.
“Dengarlah Tuan, harga tanah itu hanya lima kilogram perak. Jumlah uang sekecil itu tidak perlu dipersoalkan. Ambillah ladang itu dan kuburkan istri Tuan di sana.”
16 And whanne Abraham hadde herd this, he noumbride the monei which Efron axide, while the sones of Heth herden, foure hundrid siclis of siluer, and of preuyd comyn monei.
Abraham setuju dengan harga yang disebutkan Efron. Lalu dia menimbang lima kilogram perak untuk diberikan kepada Efron di hadapan semua orang yang hadir di situ. Beratnya sesuai dengan ukuran timbangan yang berlaku pada masa itu.
17 And the feeld that was sumtyme of Efron, in which feeld was a double denne, biholdinge to Mambre, as wel thilke feeld as the denne and alle the trees therof, in alle termes therof bi cumpas, was confermed to Abraham in to possessioun,
Demikianlah ladang Efron yang ada di Makpela, di sebelah timur Hebron, menjadi milik Abraham, termasuk gua di ladang itu beserta semua pohon yang ada di dalamnya.
18 while the sones of Heth seiyen and alle men that entriden bi the yate of that citee.
Semua orang Het yang hadir dalam pertemuan di pintu gerbang kota itu mengakui bahwa tanah tersebut sudah menjadi milik Abraham.
19 And so Abraham biriede Sare, his wijf, in the double denne of the feeld, that bihelde to Mambre; this is Ebron in the lond of Chanaan.
Setelah itu, Abraham menguburkan istrinya di dalam gua tersebut, di Makpela. Tempat itu termasuk daerah Kanaan.
20 And the feeld, and the denne that was therynne, was confermyd of the sones of Heth to Abraham, in to possessioun of sepulcre.
Dengan demikian, ladang dan gua Efron menjadi milik Abraham sebagai tempat pekuburan.
