Genesis 21
1 Forsothe God visitide Sare, as he bihiyte, and fillide tho thingis, that he spak.
Ensuite le Seigneur visita Sarra, comme il avait dit; il accomplit la promesse qu'il lui avait faite.
2 And sche conseyuede, and childide a sone in hir eeld, in the tyme wherynne God biforseide to hir.
Et ayant conçu, elle enfanta un fils à Abraham, dans sa vieillesse, au temps prédit par le Seigneur.
3 And Abraham clepide the name of his sone, whom Sare childide to him, Ysaac.
Abraham donna au fils nouveau-né que lui avait enfanté Sarra le nom d'Isaac.
4 And Abraham circumcidide hym in the eiyte dai, as God comaundide to him,
Et Abraham circoncit Isaac le huitième jour, comme l'avait ordonné Dieu.
5 whanne he was of an hundrid yeer; for Ysaac was borun in this age of the fadir.
Abraham avait cent ans, lorsque naquit son fils Isaac.
6 And Sare seide, The Lord made leiyynge to me, and who euer schal here schal leiye with me.
Sarra dit alors: Le Seigneur m'a causé un doux rire; quiconque l'apprendra se réjouira avec moi.
7 And eft sche seide, Who schulde here, and bileue to Abraham, that Sare schulde yyue soukyng to a sone, whom sche childide to him now an eld man?
Puis elle ajouta: Qui ira dire à Abraham que Sarra allaite un enfant, et que j'ai enfanté un fils dans ma vieillesse?
8 Therfor the child encreesside, and was wenyd; and Abraham made a greet feeste in the dai of his wenyng.
Et l'enfant se fortifia, il fut ensuite sevré, et Abraham fit un grand festin le jour où fut sevré son fils Isaac.
9 And whanne Sare seiy the sone of Agar Egipcian pleiynge with Ysaac hir sone, sche seide to Abraham,
Sur ces entrefaites, Sarra ayant vu le fils d'Agar l'Égyptienne, qui était né à Abraham, jouant avec son fils Isaac,
10 Cast thou out the handmayde and hir sone; for the sone of the handmayde schal not be eir with my sone Ysaac.
Dit à Abraham: Chasse cette servante et son fils, car le fils de cette servante ne partagera pas ton héritage avec Isaac mon fils.
11 Abraham took this heuyli for his sone;
Cette parole, au sujet de son fils, parut très dure à Abraham.
12 and God seide to hym, Be it not seyn scharp to thee on the child, and on thin handmayde; alle thingis whiche Sare seith to thee, here thou hir vois, for in Isaac seed schal be clepid to thee;
Mais le Seigneur dit à Abraham: Que ceci ne te semble point dur, ni au sujet de l'enfant, ni au sujet de la servante; tout ce que te dira Sarra tu dois l'écouter, car c'est par Isaac qu'existera ta race.
13 but also I schal make the sone of the handmaid in to a greet folk, for he is thi seed.
Et du fils de cette servante je ferai une grande nation, parce qu'il est ta descendance.
14 And so Abraham roos eerli, and took breed, and a botel of watir, and puttide on hir schuldre, and bitook the child, and lefte hir; and whanne sche hadde go, sche yede out of the weie in the wildirnesse of Bersabee.
Abraham se leva donc de grand matin, prit des vivres et une outre d'eau, et les donna à Agar; il mit ensuite l'enfant sur l'épaule d'Agar et la renvoya. Étant donc partie, elle erra dans le désert du côté du puits du serment.
15 And whanne the watir in the botel was endid, sche castide awei the child vndur a tre that was there;
Mais l'eau de l'outre s'épuisa, et Agar déposa l'enfant au pied d'un sapin.
16 and sche yede awei, and sche sat euene ayens as fer as a bowe may caste; for sche seide, Y schal not se the child diynge; and sche sat ayens, and reiside hir vois, and wepte.
Et, s'étant écartée, elle s'assit à une portée d'arc, en regardant à l'opposé: Que du moins, disait-elle, je ne voie point mourir mon enfant! Elle s'assit donc à l'opposé; et, l'enfant ayant crié, elle pleura.
17 Forsothe the Lord herde the vois of the child, and the aungel of the Lord clepide Agar fro heuene, and seide, What doist thou, Agar? nyle thou drede, for God hath herd the vois of the child fro the place where ynne he is.
Dieu entendit la voix de l'enfant du lieu où il était; un ange de Dieu appela Agar du haut du ciel, et il lui dit: Agar, qu'y a-t-il? n'aie point crainte; car Dieu a entendu la voix de l'enfant, du lieu où il est.
18 Rise thou, and take the child, and holde his hoond; for Y schal make hym in to a greet folc.
Lève-toi, prends l'enfant et mène-le par la main car je le ferai père d'une grande nation.
19 And God openyde hir iyen, and sche seiy a pit of watir, and sche yede, and fillide the botel, and sche yaf drynk to the child;
Et, Dieu lui ayant ouvert les yeux, elle vit un puits d'eau vive. Alors elle s'avança, remplit l'outre, et fit boire l'enfant.
20 and was with him, and he encresside, and dwellide in wildernesse, and he was maad a yong man an archer,
Or, Dieu était avec l'enfant; il grandit, habitant le désert, et il devint archer.
21 and dwellide in the deseert of Faran; and his modir took to him a wijf of the lond of Egipt.
Il demeura au désert, et sa mère le maria à une femme de Pharan en Égypte.
22 In the same tyme Abymelech, and Ficol, prince of his oost, seide to Abraham, God is with thee in alle thingis whiche thou doist;
En ce temps-là, il advint qu'Abimélech, accompagné d'Ochosath, gardien de ses femmes, et de Phichol, général en chef de ses armées, parla à Abraham, disant: Le Seigneur soit avec toi en toutes tes entreprises.
23 therfore swere thou bi God that thou noye not me, and myn eiris, and my kynrede; but bi the mersi whych Y dide to thee, do thou to me, and to the lond in which thou lyuedist a comelyng.
Jure-moi donc et atteste Dieu de ne traiter injustement ni moi, ni ma race, ni mon nom, mais, par égard pour la terre que tu habites, de te comporter envers moi avec la même justice dont j'ai usé envers toi.
24 And Abraham seide, Y schal swere.
Je le jurerai, répondit Abraham.
25 And he blamyde Abymelech for the pit of watir, which hise seruauntis token awey bi violence.
Et Abraham fit des reproches à Abimélech touchant les puits d'eau vive dont ses serviteurs s'étaient emparés.
26 And Abymelech answerde, I wiste not who dide this thing, but also thou schewidist not to me, and Y herde not outakun to dai.
Abimélech repartit: Je ne sais point qui t'a fait cela, tu ne me l'as point appris, et je n'en ai rien ouï dire avant aujourd'hui.
27 And so Abraham took scheep and oxun, and yaf to Abymalech, and bothe smyten a boond of pees.
En conséquence, Abraham prit des moutons et des bœufs, et les donna à Abimélech, Puis tous les deux firent alliance,
28 And Abraham settide seuene ewe lambren of the flok asidis half.
Mais Abraham mit à part sept agneaux de brebis,
29 And Abymelech seide to hym, What wolen these seuene ewe lambren to hem silf, whiche thou madist stonde asidis half?
Et Ahimélech lui dit: Pourquoi ces sept agneaux de brebis que tu as mis à part?
30 And he seide, Thou schalt take of myn hond seuene ewe lambren, that tho be in to witnessyng to me, for Y diggide this pit.
Abraham répondit: Tu recevras de moi ces sept agneaux, et ils témoigneront que c'est moi qui ai creusé le puits.
31 Therfor thilke place was clepid Bersabee, for euere eithir swore there;
À cause de cela, il donna à ce lieu le nom de puits du Serment, parce que là ils jurèrent tous les deux.
32 and thei maden boond of pees for the pit of an ooth.
Ainsi, ils firent alliance au puits du Serment; et Abimélech, avec Ochosath, gardien de ses femmes, et Phichol, général en chef de ses armées, se leva, et retourna en la terre des Philistins.
33 Forsothe Abymelech roos, and Ficol, prince of his chyualrie, and thei turneden ayen in to the lond of Palestyns. Sotheli Abraham plauntide a wode in Bersabee, and inwardli clepide there the name of euerlastinge God;
Ensuite, Abraham ensemença un champ vers le puits du Serment; il invoqua en ce lieu le nom du Seigneur Dieu éternel.
34 and he was an erthetiliere ether a comelynge of the lond of Palestynes in many dayes.
Et il fut longtemps passager en la terre des Philistins.
