< Genesis 19 >

1 And tweyne aungels camen to Sodom in the euentide, while Loth sat in the yatis of the citee. And whanne he hadde seyn hem, he roos, and yede ayens hem, and worschipide lowe to erthe,
and to come (in): come two [the] messenger: angel Sodom [to] in/on/with evening and Lot to dwell in/on/with gate Sodom and to see: see Lot and to arise: rise to/for to encounter: meet them and to bow face land: soil [to]
2 and seide, My lordis, Y biseche, bowe ye in to the hous of youre child, and dwelle ye there; waische ye youre feet, and in the morewtid ye schulen go in to youre weie. Whiche seiden, Nay, but we schulen dwelle in the street.
and to say behold please lord my to turn aside: turn aside please to(wards) house: home servant/slave your and to lodge and to wash: wash foot your and to rise (and to go: went *LAH(b)*) to/for way: journey your and to say not for in/on/with street/plaza to lodge
3 He constreynede hem greetli, that thei schulden turne to hym. And whanne thei weren entrid in to his hous, he made a feeste, he bakide therf breed, and thei eten.
and to press in/on/with them much and to turn aside: turn aside to(wards) him and to come (in): come to(wards) house: home his and to make to/for them feast and unleavened bread to bake and to eat
4 Forsothe bifore that thei yeden to sleepe, men of the citee compassiden his hows, fro a child `til to an eld man, al the puple togidre;
before to lie down: lay down and human [the] city human Sodom to turn: surround upon [the] house: home from youth and till old all [the] people from end
5 and thei clepiden Loth, and seiden to him, Where ben the men that entriden to thee to nyyt? brynge hem out hidur, that we `knowe hem.
and to call: call out to(wards) Lot and to say to/for him where? [the] human which to come (in): come to(wards) you [the] night to come out: send them to(wards) us and to know [obj] them
6 And Loth yede out to hem `bihynde the bak, and closide the dore,
and to come out: come to(wards) them Lot [the] entrance [to] and [the] door to shut after him
7 and seide, Y biseche, nyle ye, my britheren, nyle ye do this yuel.
and to say not please brother: male-sibling my be evil
8 Y haue twey douytris, that knewen not yit man; Y schal lede out hem to you, and mys vse ye hem as it plesith you, so that ye doon noon yuel to these men, for thei entriden vndur the schadewe of my roof.
behold please to/for me two daughter which not to know man to come out: send please [obj] them to(wards) you and to make: do to/for them like/as pleasant in/on/with eye: appearance your except to/for human [the] these not to make: do word: thing for as that: since as as to come (in): come in/on/with shadow beam my
9 And thei seiden, Go thou fro hennus. And eft thei seiden, Thou entridist as a comelyng; wher that thou deme? therfor we schulen turment thee more than these. And thei diden violentli to Loth ful greetli. Thanne it was nyy that thei wolden breke the doris; and lo!
and to say to approach: approach further and to say [the] one to come (in): come to/for to sojourn and to judge to judge now be evil to/for you from them and to press in/on/with man in/on/with Lot much and to approach: approach to/for to break [the] door
10 the men puttiden hoond, and ledden in Loth to hem, and thei closiden the dore.
and to send: reach [the] human [obj] hand their and to come (in): bring [obj] Lot to(wards) them [the] house: home [to] and [obj] [the] door to shut
11 And thei smyten with blyndenesse hem that weren withoutforth, fro the leest til to the moost; so that thei myyten not fynde the dore.
and [obj] [the] human which entrance [the] house: home to smite in/on/with blindness from small and till great: large and be weary to/for to find [the] entrance
12 Forsothe thei seiden to Loth, Hast thou here ony man of thine, hosebonde of thi douyter, ethir sones, ethir douytris; lede thou out of this citee alle men that ben thine,
and to say [the] human to(wards) Lot still who? to/for you here son-in-law and son: child your and daughter your and all which to/for you in/on/with city to come out: send from [the] place
13 for we schulen do a wey this place, for the cry of hem encreesside bifor the Lord, which sente vs that we leese hem.
for to ruin we [obj] [the] place [the] this for to magnify cry their with face: before LORD and to send: depart us LORD to/for to ruin her
14 And so Loth yede out, and spak to the hosebondys of his douytris, that schulden take hise douytris, and seide, Rise ye, and go ye out of this place; for the Lord schal do awey this citee. And he was seyn to hem to speke as pleiynge.
and to come out: come Lot and to speak: speak to(wards) son-in-law his to take: marry daughter his and to say to arise: rise to come out: come from [the] place [the] this for to ruin LORD [obj] [the] city and to be like/as to laugh in/on/with eye: appearance son-in-law his
15 And whanne the morewtid was, the aungels constreyneden hym, and seiden, Rise thou, and take thi wijf, and thi twey douytris whiche thou hast, lest also thou perische to gidere in the synne of the citee.
and like [the] dawn to ascend: dawn and to hasten [the] messenger: angel in/on/with Lot to/for to say to arise: rise to take: take [obj] woman: wife your and [obj] two daughter your [the] to find lest to snatch in/on/with iniquity: punishment [the] city
16 While he dissymelide, thei token his hond, and the hond of his wijf, and of his twey doutris; for the Lord sparide hym.
and to delay and to strengthen: hold [the] human in/on/with hand his and in/on/with hand woman: wife his and in/on/with hand two daughter his in/on/with compassion LORD upon him and to come out: send him and to rest him from outside to/for city
17 And thei ledden out hym, and settiden with out the citee. There thei spaken to him, and seiden, Saue thou thi lijf; nyle thou biholde bihynde thi bac, nether stond thou in al the cuntre aboute, but make thee saaf in the hil; lest also thou perische togidere.
and to be like/as to come out: send they [obj] them [the] outside [to] and to say to escape upon soul: life your not to look after you and not to stand: stand in/on/with all [the] talent [the] mountain: mount [to] to escape lest to snatch
18 And Loth seide to hem, My lord, Y biseche,
and to say Lot to(wards) them not please Lord
19 for thi seruaunt hath founde grace bifore thee, and thou hast magnyfied thi grace and mercy, which thou hast do with me, that thou schuldist saue my lijf; Y may not be saued in the hil, lest perauenture yuel take me, and Y die;
behold please to find servant/slave your favor in/on/with eye: seeing your and to magnify kindness your which to make: do with me me to/for to live [obj] soul: life my and I not be able to/for to escape [the] mountain: mount [to] lest to cleave me [the] distress: harm and to die
20 a litil citee is here bisidis, to which Y may fle, and Y schal be saued ther ynne; where it is not a litil citee? and my soule schal lyue ther ynne.
behold please [the] city [the] this near to/for to flee there [to] and he/she/it little to escape please there [to] not little he/she/it and to live soul: life my
21 And he seide to Loth, Lo! also in this Y haue resseyued thi preieris, that Y distrye not the citee, for which thou hast spoke;
and to say to(wards) him behold to lift: kindness face: kindness your also to/for word: thing [the] this to/for lest to overturn I [obj] [the] city which to speak: speak
22 haste thou, and be thou saued there, for Y may not do ony thing til thou entre thidur. Therfor the name of that citee was clepid Segor.
to hasten to escape there [to] for not be able to/for to make: do word: thing till to come (in): come you there [to] upon so to call: call by name [the] city Zoar
23 The sunne roos on erthe, and Loth entride in to Segor.
[the] sun to come out: (sun)rise upon [the] land: country/planet and Lot to come (in): come Zoar [to]
24 Therfor the Lord reynede on Sodom and Gomorre brynston and fier, fro the Lord fro heuene,
and LORD to rain upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from with LORD from [the] heaven
25 and distriede these citees, and al the cuntrey aboute; he destriede alle enhabiters of citees, and all grene thingis of erthe.
and to overturn [obj] [the] city [the] these and [obj] all [the] talent and [obj] all to dwell [the] city and branch [the] land: soil
26 And his wijf lokide abac, and was turned in to an ymage of salt.
and to look woman: wife his from after him and to be garrison salt
27 Forsothe Abraham risynge eerly, where he stood bifore with the Lord,
and to rise Abraham in/on/with morning to(wards) [the] place which to stand: stand there with face: before LORD
28 bihelde Sodom and Gomorre, and al the lond of that cuntrey; and he seiy a deed sparcle stiynge fro erthe, as the smoke of a furneis.
and to look upon face: before Sodom and Gomorrah and upon all face: before land: country/planet [the] talent and to see: see and behold to ascend: rise smoke [the] land: country/planet like/as smoke [the] kiln
29 For whanne God distriede the citees of that cuntrey, he hadde mynde of Abraham, and delyuerede Loth fro destriynge of the citees in whiche he dwellide.
and to be in/on/with to ruin God [obj] city [the] talent and to remember God [obj] Abraham and to send: depart [obj] Lot from midst [the] overthrow in/on/with to overturn [obj] [the] city which to dwell in/on/with them Lot
30 And Loth stiede fro Segor, and dwellide in the hil, and hise twey douytris with him, for he dredde to dwelle in Segor; and he dwellide in a denne, he and his twey douytris with hym.
and to ascend: rise Lot from Zoar and to dwell in/on/with mountain: mount and two daughter his with him for to fear to/for to dwell in/on/with Zoar and to dwell in/on/with cave he/she/it and two daughter his
31 And the more douytre seide to the lasse, Oure fadre is eld, and no man is left in erthe, that may entre to vs, bi the custom of al erthe;
and to say [the] firstborn to(wards) [the] little father our be old and man nothing in/on/with land: country/planet to/for to come (in): come upon us like/as way: conduct all [the] land: country/planet
32 come thou, make we him drunkun of wyn, and slepe we with him, that we moun kepe seed of oure fadir.
to go: come! [emph?] to water: drink [obj] father our wine and to lie down: have sex with him and to live from father our seed: children
33 And so thei yauen to her fadir to drynke wyn in that nyyt, and the more douyter entrede, and slepte with hir fadir; and he feelide not, nethir whanne the douytir lay doun, nether whanne sche roos.
and to water: drink [obj] father their wine in/on/with night he/she/it and to come (in): come [the] firstborn and to lie down: have sex [obj] father her and not to know in/on/with to lie down: have sex she and in/on/with to arise: rise she
34 And in the tothir dai the more douytir seide to the lasse, Lo! Y slepte yistirdai with my fadir, yyue we to hym to drynk wyn also in this nyyt; and thou schalt slepe with hym, that we saue seed of oure fadir.
and to be from morrow and to say [the] firstborn to(wards) [the] little look! to lie down: have sex last night [obj] father my to water: drink him wine also [the] night and to come (in): come to lie down: have sex with him and to live from father our seed: children
35 And thei yauen to her fadir also in that nyyt to drynke wyn, and the lesse douytir entride, and slepte with him; and sotheli he feelide not thanne whanne sche lay doun, nether whanne sche roos.
and to water: drink also in/on/with night [the] he/she/it [obj] father their wine and to arise: rise [the] little and to lie down: have sex with him and not to know in/on/with to lie down: have sex she and in/on/with to arise: rise she
36 Therfor the twei douytris of Loth conseyuede of hir fadir.
and to conceive two daughter Lot from father their
37 And the more douytre childide a sone, and clepide his name Moab; he is the fadir of men of Moab `til in to present dai.
and to beget [the] firstborn son: child and to call: call by name his Moab he/she/it father Moab till [the] day: today
38 And the lesse douyter childide a sone, and clepide his name Amon, that is, the sone of my puple; he is the fadir of men of Amon til to day.
and [the] little also he/she/it to beget son: child and to call: call by name his Ben-ammi Ben-ammi he/she/it father son: descendant/people Ammon till [the] day: today
