Genesis 17

1 Forsothe aftir that Abram bigan to be of nynti yeer and nyne, the Lord apperide to hym, and seide to him, Y am Almyyti God; go thou bifore me, and be thou perfit;

Et lorsque Abram eut quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans, l'Éternel apparut à Abram et lui dit: Je suis Dieu, le Tout-puissant, marche en ma présence et sois irréprochable,

2 and Y schal sette my couenaunt of pees bitwixe me and thee; and Y schal multiplie thee ful greetli.

et j'établirai mon alliance entre moi et toi, et je te donnerai un accroissement de plus en plus grand.

3 And Abram felde doun lowe on his face.

Alors Abram tomba la face contre terre et Dieu lui parla en ces termes:

4 And God seide to hym, Y am, and my couenaunt of pees is with thee, and thou schalt be the fadir of many folkis;

Pour moi, voici, je tiens mon alliance avec toi, et tu deviendras père d'une multitude de peuples.

5 and thi name schal no more be clepid Abram, but thou schalt be clepid Abraham, for Y haue maad thee fadir of many folkis;

Et désormais on ne t'appellera plus de ton nom d'Abram, mais ton nom sera Abraham, car je te constitue père d'une multitude de peuples.

6 and Y schal make thee to wexe ful greetli, and Y schal sette thee in folkis, and kyngis schulen go out of thee;

Et je te rendrai de plus en plus fécond, et je ferai de toi une souche de peuples et des rois proviendront de toi.

7 and Y schal make my couenaunt bitwixe me and thee, and bitwixe thi seed after thee, in her generaciouns, bi euerlastynge bond of pees, that Y be thi God, and of thi seed after thee;

Et j'érige mon alliance entre moi et toi et tes descendants après toi pour toutes leurs générations en alliance éternelle, savoir que je serai ton Dieu à toi et à ta postérité après toi.

8 and Y schal yyue to thee and to thi seed after thee the lond of thi pilgrymage, al the lond of Chanaan, in to euerlastynge possessioun, and Y schal be the God of hem.

Et je te donne et à ta postérité après toi le pays de tes pèlerinages, le pays de Canaan, en propriété éternelle, et je serai leur Dieu.

9 God seide eft to Abraham, And therfor thou schalt kepe my couenaunt, and thi seed after thee, in her generaciouns.

Et Dieu dit à Abraham: Pour toi, tu garderas mon alliance, toi et tes descendants après toi dans toutes leurs générations.

10 This is my couenaunt, which ye schulen kepe bitwixe me and you, and thi seed after thee; ech male kynde of you schal be circumcidid,

Voici l'alliance que vous observerez entre moi et vous, et ta postérité après toi, c'est que tous vos mâles seront circoncis;

11 and ye schulen circumside the fleisch of youre mannes yeerd, that it be in to a signe of boond of pees bytwixe me and you.

vous vous circoncirez la chair de votre prépuce, et ce sera un signe d'alliance entre moi et vous.

12 A yong child of eiyte daies schal be circumsidid in you, al male kynde in youre generaciouns, as wel a borun seruaunt as a seruaunt bouyt schal be circumsidid, and who euere is of youre kynrede he schal be circumsidid;

Tout mâle sera circoncis par vous à l'âge de huit jours dans vos générations, le serf soit né à la maison, soit acquis à prix d'argent, chacun des fils de l'étranger qui ne sera pas de ta race;

13 and my couenaunt schal be in youre fleisch in to euerlastynge boond of pees.

vous aurez à circoncire le serf soit né à la maison, soit acquis à prix d'argent, et ainsi vous porterez en votre chair mon alliance, en alliance éternelle.

14 A man whos fleisch of his yerde schal not be circumsidid, thilke man schal be doon a wei fro his puple; for he made voide my couenaunt.

Quant au mâle incirconcis dont la chair du prépuce n'aura pas subi la circoncision, un tel individu sera exterminé du milieu de son peuple; il aura violé mon alliance.

15 Also God seide to Abraham, Thou schalt not clepe Saray, thi wijf, Sarai, but Sara;

Et Dieu dit à Abraham: Saraï, ta femme, ne sera plus le appelée du nom de Saraï, mais son nom sera Sarah.

16 and Y schal blesse hir, and of hir I schal yyue to thee a sone, whom I schal blesse, and he schal be in to naciouns, and kyngis of puplis schulen be borun of hym.

Et je la bénis, et je te ferai aussi naître d'elle un fils; je la bénis et elle deviendra une souche de peuples, et des rois proviendront d'elle.

17 Abraham felde doun on his face, and leiyede in his hert, and seide, Gessist thou, whethir a sone schal be borun to a man of an hundrid yeer, and Sara of nynti yeer schal bere child?

Alors Abraham tomba la face contre terre, et il rit et dit en son cœur: A un centenaire naîtrait-il un fils, et Sarah, nonagénaire, enfanterait-elle?

18 And he seide to the Lord, Y wolde that Ismael lyue bifore thee.

Et Abraham dit à Dieu: Puisse Ismaël vivre sous ton regard!

19 And the Lord seide to Abraham, Sara, thi wijf, schal bere a sone to thee, and thou schalt clepe his name Ysaac, and Y schal make my couenaunt to hym in to euerlastynge boond of pees, and to his seed aftir hym;

Et Dieu dit: Ce n'est pas cela! Sarah, ta femme, t'enfantera un fils, et tu l'appelleras du nom d'Isaac; et j'érigerai mon alliance avec lui en alliance éternelle pour sa postérité après lui.

20 also on Ysmael Y haue herd thee, lo! Y schal blesse him, and Y schal encreesse, and Y schal multiplie him greetli; he schal gendre twelue dukis, and Y schal make hym in to a greet folk.

Et je t'exauce quant à Ismaël: voici je le bénirai et le rendrai fécond, et lui donnerai un grand accroissement; il engendrera douze princes et je le ferai devenir un grand peuple.

21 Forsothe Y schal make my couenaunt to Ysaac, whom Sare schal childe to thee in this tyme in the tother yeer.

Et je dresserai mon alliance avec Isaac que Sarah t'enfantera à pareille époque l'année prochaine.

22 And whanne the word of the spekere with hym was endid, God stiede fro Abraham.

Et lorsqu'il eut achevé de parler avec lui, Dieu s'éleva quittant Abraham.

23 Forsothe Abraham took Ismael, his sone, and alle the borun seruauntis of his hous, and alle which he hadde bouyte, alle the malis of alle men of his hous, and circumsidide the fleisch of her yerde, anoon in that dai, as the Lord comaundide him.

Alors Abraham prit Ismaël, son fils et tous les serfs nés dans sa maison et tous les serfs achetés à prix d'argent, tous les mâles de la maison d'Abraham et il circoncit la chair de leur prépuce ce jour-là même selon ce que Dieu lui avait dit.

24 Abraham was of nynti yeer and nyne whanne he circumsidide the fleisch of his yeerd,

Or Abraham avait quatre-vingt-dix-neuf ans lorsqu'il fut circoncis en la chair de son prépuce.

25 and Ismael, his sone, hadde fillid threttene yeer in the tyme of his circumsicioun.

Et Ismaël, son fils, avait treize ans lorsqu'il fut circoncis en la chair de son prépuce.

26 Abraham was circumsidid in the same day, and Ismael his sone,

C'est en ce jour même que furent circoncis Abraham et Ismaël, son fils.

27 and alle men of his hows, as wel borun seruauntis as bouyt and aliens, weren circumcidid togidre.

Et tous les hommes de sa maison, serfs nés dans la maison et serfs acquis à prix d'argent d'entre les fils de l'étranger, furent circoncis avec lui.
