Ezekiel 20
1 And it was doon in the seuenthe yeer, in the fyuethe monethe, in the tenthe dai of the monethe, men of the eldris of Israel camen to axe the Lord; and thei saten bifor me.
La septième année, le dixième jour du cinquième mois, quelques-uns des anciens d'Israël vinrent pour consulter l'Éternel, et ils s'assirent devant moi.
2 And the word of the Lord was maad to me,
Et la parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces termes:
3 and he seide, Sone of man, speke thou to the eldere men of Israel; and thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord God seith these thingis, Whether ye camen to axe me? Y lyue, for Y schal not answere to you, seith the Lord God. Sone of man,
Fils de l'homme, parle aux anciens d'Israël, et dis-leur: Ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: C'est pour me consulter que vous êtes venus! Je suis vivant! je ne me laisserai point consulter par vous, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
4 if thou demest hem, if thou demest, schewe thou to hem the abhomynaciouns of her fadris.
Ne les jugeras-tu pas, fils de l'homme, ne les jugeras-tu pas? Fais-leur connaître les abominations de leurs pères.
5 And thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord God seith these thingis, In the dai in which Y chees Israel, and reiside myn hond for the generacioun of the hous of Jacob, and Y apperide to hem in the lond of Egipt, and Y reiside myn hond for hem, and Y seide, Y am youre Lord God,
Et dis-leur: Ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Le jour où j'élus Israël, où je levai ma main en faveur de la postérité de la maison de Jacob, où je me fis connaître à eux dans le pays d'Égypte, où je levai ma main pour eux, en disant: Je suis l'Éternel votre Dieu;
6 in that dai Y reiside myn hond for hem, that Y schulde leede hem out of the lond of Egipt, in to the lond which Y hadde purueiede to hem, the lond flowynge with mylk and hony, which is noble among alle londis.
En ce jour-là, je leur promis en levant ma main, que je les ferais sortir du pays d'Égypte, pour les faire entrer dans un pays que j'avais cherché pour eux, pays où coulent le lait et le miel, le plus beau de tous les pays.
7 And Y seide to hem, Ech man caste awei the offenciouns of hise iyen, and nyle ye be defoulid in the idols of Egipt; Y am youre Lord God.
Et je leur dis: Rejetez, chacun de vous, les abominations objets de vos regards, ne vous souillez pas avec les idoles de l'Égypte; je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
8 And thei terriden me to wraththe, and nolden here me; ech man castide not awei the abhomynaciouns of hise iyen, nether thei forsoken the idols of Egipt.
Mais ils se révoltèrent contre moi, et ne voulurent pas m'écouter; aucun d'eux ne rejeta les abominations qui attiraient ses regards, et n'abandonna les idoles de l'Égypte. Alors je songeai à répandre ma fureur sur eux, et à assouvir contre eux ma colère au milieu du pays d'Égypte.
9 And Y seide, that Y wold schede out myn indignacioun on hem, and fille my wraththe in hem, in the myddis of the lond of Egipt. And Y dide for my name, that it schulde not be defoulid bifore hethene men, in the myddis of whiche thei weren, and among whiche Y apperide to hem, that Y schulde lede hem out of the lond of Egipt.
Néanmoins j'ai agi pour l'amour de mon nom, afin qu'il ne fût point profané aux yeux des nations parmi lesquelles ils se trouvaient, et en présence desquelles je m'étais fait connaître à eux, pour les faire sortir du pays d'Égypte.
10 Therfor Y castide hem out of the lond of Egipt, and Y ledde hem out in to desert;
Je les fis donc sortir du pays d'Égypte, et les amenai au désert.
11 and Y yaf to hem my comaundementis, and Y schewide to hem my doomes, which a man schal do, and lyue in tho.
Je leur donnai mes statuts et leur fis connaître mes lois, que l'homme doit accomplir afin de vivre par elles.
12 Ferthermore and Y yaf to hem my sabatis, that it schulde be a sygne bitwixe me and hem, and that thei schulden wite, that Y am the Lord halewynge hem.
Je leur donnai aussi mes sabbats pour servir de signe entre moi et eux, afin qu'ils connussent que je suis l'Éternel, qui les sanctifie.
13 And the hous of Israel terriden me to wraththe in desert; thei yeden not in my comaundementis, and thei castiden awei my domes, whiche a man that doith, schal lyue in tho; and thei defouliden greetli my sabatis. Therfor Y seide, that Y wolde schede out my strong veniaunce on hem in desert, and waste hem;
Mais ceux de la maison d'Israël se révoltèrent contre moi dans le désert; ils ne marchèrent point selon mes statuts et rejetèrent mes lois, que l'homme doit accomplir afin de vivre par elles, et ils profanèrent indignement mes sabbats. C'est pourquoi je songeai à répandre sur eux ma fureur au désert, pour les anéantir.
14 and Y dide for my name, lest it were defoulid bifor hethene men, fro whiche Y castide hem out in the siyt of tho.
Néanmoins j'ai agi pour l'amour de mon nom, afin qu'il ne fût point profané aux yeux des nations, en présence desquelles je les avais fait sortir d'Égypte.
15 Therfor Y reiside myn hond on hem in the desert, that Y brouyte not hem in to the lond which Y yaf to hem, the lond flowynge with mylk and hony, the beste of alle londis.
Et même je leur avais promis, en levant ma main dans le désert, que je ne les amènerais point au pays que je leur avais donné, - pays où coulent le lait et le miel, le plus beau de tous les pays, -
16 For thei castiden awei my domes, and yeden not in my comaundementis, and thei defouliden my sabatis; for the herte of hem yede after idols.
Parce qu'ils avaient rejeté mes lois, qu'ils n'avaient point marché selon mes statuts, et qu'ils avaient profané mes sabbats, car leur cœur marchait après leurs idoles.
17 And myn iye sparide on hem, that Y killide not hem, nether Y wastide hem in the desert.
Toutefois mon œil les épargna pour ne point les détruire; je ne les exterminai pas entièrement au désert.
18 Forsothe Y seide to the sones of hem in wildirnesse, Nyle ye go in the comaundementis of youre fadris, nether kepe ye the domes of hem, nethir be ye defoulid in the idols of hem.
Je dis à leurs enfants au désert: Ne marchez pas selon les préceptes de vos pères, n'observez pas leurs mœurs, et ne vous souillez pas avec leurs idoles.
19 Y am youre Lord God, go ye in my comaundementis, and kepe ye my domes, and do ye tho.
Je suis l'Éternel votre Dieu; marchez selon mes statuts, gardez mes commandements, et mettez-les en pratique.
20 And halowe ye my sabatis, that it be a signe bitwixe me and you, and that it be knowun, that Y am youre Lord God.
Sanctifiez mes sabbats, afin qu'ils servent de signe entre moi et vous, et que vous connaissiez que je suis l'Éternel votre Dieu.
21 And the sones terriden me to wraththe, and yeden not in my comaundementis, and kepten not my domes, that thei diden tho, whiche whanne a man hath do, he schal lyue in tho, and thei defouliden my sabatis. And Y manaasside to hem, that Y wolde schede out my stronge veniaunce on hem, and fille my wraththe in hem in the desert.
Mais les enfants se révoltèrent contre moi; ils ne marchèrent point selon mes statuts; ils n'observèrent pas mes ordonnances et ne mirent point en pratique ces lois, que l'homme doit accomplir afin de vivre par elles, et ils profanèrent mes sabbats. C'est pourquoi je songeai à répandre sur eux ma fureur, et à assouvir contre eux ma colère au désert.
22 But Y turnede awei myn hond, and Y dide this for my name, that it were not defoulid bifore hethene men, fro whiche Y castide hem out bifore the iyen of tho.
Néanmoins j'ai retiré ma main, et je l'ai fait pour l'amour de mon nom, afin qu'il ne fût point profané aux yeux des nations en présence desquelles je les avais fait sortir.
23 Eft Y reiside myn hond ayens hem in wildirnesse, that Y schulde scatere hem in to naciouns, and wyndewe hem in to londis;
Toutefois je leur avais promis, en levant ma main au désert, que je les disperserais parmi les nations et que je les répandrais en divers pays,
24 for that that thei hadden not do my domes, and hadden repreuyd my comaundementis, and hadden defoulid my sabatis, and her iyen hadden be after the idols of her fadris.
Parce qu'ils n'avaient point observé mes statuts, qu'ils avaient rejeté mes lois, qu'ils avaient profané mes sabbats et que leurs yeux étaient attachés aux idoles de leurs pères.
25 Therfor and Y yaf to hem comaundementis not good, and domes in whiche thei schulen not lyue.
Aussi leur ai-je donné des statuts qui n'étaient pas bons, et des lois par lesquelles ils ne devaient pas vivre.
26 And Y defoulide hem in her yiftis, whanne thei offriden to me for her trespassis al thing that openeth the wombe; and thei schulen wite, that Y am the Lord.
Je les souillai par leurs offrandes, en ce qu'ils ont fait passer par le feu tous leurs premiers-nés, afin de les mettre en désolation et de leur faire connaître que je suis l'Éternel.
27 Wherfor speke thou, sone of man, to the hous of Israel, and thou schalt seie to hem, The Lord God seith these thingis, Yit and in this youre fadris blasfemyden me, whanne thei dispisynge hadden forsake me,
C'est pourquoi, fils de l'homme, parle à la maison d'Israël, et dis-leur: Ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Vos pères m'ont outragé en agissant perfidement à mon égard.
28 and Y hadde brouyte hem in to the lond on which Y reiside myn hond, that Y schulde yiue to hem, thei siyen ech hiy litil hil, and ech tree ful of boowis, and thei offriden there her sacrifices, and thei yauen there her offryngis, in to terring to wraththe; and thei settiden there the odour of her swetnesse, and thei offriden her moiste sacrifices.
Je les ai fait entrer dans le pays que j'avais promis, en levant la main, de leur donner; mais ils ont regardé toute colline élevée et tout arbre touffu; ils y ont fait leurs sacrifices, ils y ont présenté leurs offrandes qui m'irritaient; ils y ont déposé leurs parfums d'agréable odeur, et y ont fait leurs libations.
29 And Y seide to hem, What is the hiy thing, to whiche ye entren? And the name therof is clepid Hiy Thing til to this dai.
Et je leur dis: Que signifient ces hauts lieux où vous vous rendez? Et le nom de hauts lieux leur a été donné jusqu'à ce jour.
30 Therfor seie thou to the hous of Israel, The Lord God seith these thingis, Certis ye ben defoulid in the weie of youre fadris, and ye don fornycacioun aftir the offendingis of hem,
C'est pourquoi, dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Ne vous souillez-vous pas dans les voies de vos pères, et ne vous prostituez-vous pas à leurs abominations?
31 and in the offryng of youre yiftis, whanne ye leden ouer youre sones bi fier, ye ben defoulid in alle youre idols til to dai, and schal Y answere to you, the hous of Israel? Y lyue, seith the Lord God, for Y schal not answere to you;
Quand vous présentez vos offrandes, quand vous faites passer vos enfants par le feu, vous vous souillez avec toutes vos idoles encore aujourd'hui. Et je me laisserais consulter par vous, ô maison d'Israël! Je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, je ne me laisserai point consulter par vous!
32 nether the thouyte of youre soul schal be don, that seien, We schulen be as hethene men, and as naciouns of erthe, that we worschipe trees and stoonys.
Rien n'arrivera de ce que vous pensez quand vous dites: Nous voulons être comme les nations et les familles des autres pays, en servant le bois et la pierre.
33 Y lyue, seith the Lord God, for in strong hond, and in arm stretchid forth, and in strong veniaunce sched out, I schal regne on you.
Je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, à main forte, à bras étendu, et avec effusion de colère, je régnerai sur vous!
34 And Y schal lede out you fro puplis, and Y schal gadere you fro londis, in whiche ye ben scaterid; in strong hond, and in arm stretchid forth, and in strong veniaunce sched out Y schal regne on you.
Je vous ferai sortir d'entre les peuples; je vous rassemblerai des pays dans lesquels vous avez été dispersés, à main forte, à bras étendu et avec effusion de colère.
35 And Y schal bringe you in to desert of puplis, and Y schal be demed there with you face to face.
Et je vous amènerai dans le désert des peuples, et là j'entrerai en jugement avec vous, face à face;
36 As Y stryuede in doom ayens youre fadris in the desert of the lond of Egipt, so Y schal deme you, seith the Lord;
Comme je suis entré en jugement avec vos pères dans le désert du pays d'Égypte, ainsi j'entrerai en jugement avec vous, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
37 and Y schal make you suget to my septre, and Y schal bringe in you in the boondis of pees.
Puis je vous ferai passer sous la verge, et vous ferai rentrer dans les liens de l'alliance.
38 And Y schal chese of you trespassouris, and wickid men; and Y schal leede hem out of the lond of her dwelling, and thei schulen not entre in to the lond of Israel; and ye schulen wite, that Y am the Lord.
Je séparerai de vous les rebelles et ceux qui se sont révoltés contre moi; je les ferai sortir du pays où ils séjournent; mais ils n'entreront point sur le sol d'Israël. Ainsi vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel.
39 And ye, the hous of Israel, the Lord God seith these thingis, Go ye ech man aftir youre idols, and serue ye tho. That and if ye heren not me in this, and defoulen more myn hooli name in youre yiftis,
Et vous, maison d'Israël, ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Allez servir chacun vos idoles! Mais, après cela, vous m'écouterez et ne profanerez plus le nom de ma sainteté par vos offrandes et par vos idoles.
40 and in youre idols, in myn hooli hil, in the hiy hil of Israel, seith the Lord God, ye schulen be punyschid greuousliere. There al the hous of Israel schal serue me, sotheli alle men in the lond, in which thei schulen plese me; and there Y schal seke youre firste fruytis, and the bigynnyng of youre tithis in alle youre halewyngis.
Mais sur ma sainte montagne, sur la haute montagne d'Israël, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, là toute la maison d'Israël et tout ce qui sera dans le pays me serviront. Là je prendrai plaisir à eux; là je rechercherai vos offrandes, et les prémices de vos dons, dans tout ce que vous me consacrerez.
41 Y schal resseiue you in to odour of swetnesse, whanne Y schal leede you out of puplis, and schal gadere you fro londis, in whiche ye weren scaterid; and Y schal be halewid in you bifor the iyen of naciouns.
Je prendrai plaisir à vous, comme à un parfum d'agréable odeur, quand je vous aurai fait sortir du milieu des peuples et rassemblés des pays où vous êtes dispersés, et je serai sanctifié par vous aux yeux des nations.
42 And ye schulen wite, that Y am the Lord, whanne Y schal bringe you in to the lond of Israel, in to the lond for which Y reiside myn hond, that Y schulde yyue it to youre fadris.
Et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, quand je vous aurai fait revenir sur le sol d'Israël, dans le pays que j'avais promis, en levant la main, de donner à vos pères.
43 And ye schulen haue mynde there on youre weies, and on alle youre grete trespassis, bi whiche ye ben defoulid in tho; and ye schulen displese you in youre siyt, in alle youre malices whiche ye diden.
Là, vous vous souviendrez de vos voies et de toutes vos actions par lesquelles vous vous êtes souillés; vous vous prendrez vous-mêmes en dégoût, à cause de tout ce que vous aurez fait de mal.
44 And ye schulen wite, that Y am the Lord, whanne Y schal do wel to you for my name; not bi youre yuel weies, nether bi youre worste trespassis, ye hous of Israel, seith the Lord God.
Et vous saurez que je suis l'Éternel, quand j'agirai avec vous pour l'amour de mon nom, et non pas selon votre conduite mauvaise et vos actions corrompues, ô maison d'Israël! dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.
45 And the word of the Lord was maad to me,
La parole de l'Éternel me fut adressée en ces mots:
46 and he seide, Thou, sone of man, sette thi face ayens the weie of the south, and droppe thou to the south, and profesie thou to the forest of the myddai feeld.
Fils de l'homme, tourne ta face du côté de Théman, et prêche vers le midi, prophétise sur la forêt de la campagne du midi.
47 And thou schalt seie to the myddai forest, Here thou the word of the Lord. The Lord God seith these thingis, Lo! Y schal kyndle a fier in thee, and Y schal brenne in thee ech green tre, and ech drie tre; the flawme of brennyng schal not be quenchid, and ech face schal be brent ther ynne, fro the south til to the north.
Dis à la forêt du midi: Écoute la parole de l'Éternel! Ainsi a dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Voici, je vais allumer un feu au-dedans de toi; il dévorera dans ton sein tout arbre vert et tout arbre sec; la flamme embrasée ne s'éteindra point, et toute la surface en sera brûlée du midi au septentrion.
48 And ech man schal se, that Y the Lord haue kyndlid it, and it schal not be quenchid.
Et toute chair verra que moi, l'Éternel, je l'ai allumée; elle ne s'éteindra point.
49 And Y seide, A! A! A! Lord God, thei seien of me, Whethir this man spekith not bi parablis?
Et je dis: Ah! Seigneur, Éternel, ils disent de moi: Cet homme ne fait que parler en énigmes.
