Exodus 5
1 Aftir these thingis Moises and Aaron entriden, and seiden to Farao, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Delyuere thou my puple, that it make sacrifice to me in deseert.
Après cela Moïse et Aaron entrèrent et dirent à Pharaon: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël: Laisse aller mon peuple, afin qu’il me sacrifie dans le désert.
2 And he answeride, Who is the Lord, that Y here his vois, and delyuere Israel? I knowe not the Lord, and Y schal not delyuere Israel.
Mais celui-ci répondit: Qui est le Seigneur, pour que j’écoute sa voix et que je laisse aller Israël? Je ne connais point le Seigneur, et Israël, je ne le laisserai pas aller.
3 Thei seiden, God of Ebrews clepide vs, that we go the weie of thre daies in to wildirnesse, and that we make sacrifice to oure Lord God, lest perauenture pestilence, ether swerd, bifalle to vs.
Ils dirent encore: Le Dieu des Hébreux nous a appelés, afin que nous fassions le chemin de trois journées dans le désert, et que nous sacrifiions au Seigneur notre Dieu, de peur que ne nous advienne la peste ou le glaive.
4 The kyng of Egipt seide to hem, Moises and Aaron, whi stiren ye the puple fro her werkis? Go ye to youre chargis.
Le roi d’Egypte leur répondit: Pourquoi, Moïse et Aaron, détournez-vous le peuple de ses ouvrages? Allez à vos travaux.
5 And Farao seide, The puple of the loond is myche; ye seen that the cumpany hath encreessid; hou myche more schal it encreesse, if ye schulen yyue to hem reste fro werkis.
Pharaon ajouta: Le peuple est nombreux dans le pays: vous voyez que la multitude s’est insensiblement accrue; combien plus, si vous lui donnez relâche dans ses travaux?
6 Therfor Farao comaundide in that dai to the maistris of werkis, and to rente gadereris of the puple,
Il commanda donc en ce jour-là aux intendants des travaux, et aux exacteurs du peuple, disant:
7 and seide, Ye schulen no more yyue stre to the puple, to make tijl stoonys as bifore; but go thei, and gedere stobil;
Vous ne donnerez plus du tout de paille au peuple pour faire des briques, comme auparavant; mais qu’ils aillent eux-mêmes, et qu’ils ramassent du chaume.
8 and ye schulen sette on hem the mesure of tijl stoonys, which thei maden bifore, nether ye schulen abate ony thing; for thei ben idil, and therfor thei crien, and seien, Go we, and make we sacrifice to oure God;
Cependant vous leur imposerez la quantité de briques qu’ils faisaient auparavant, et vous n’en diminuerez rien; car ils chôment, et c’est pour cela qu’ils vocifèrent, disant: Allons et sacrifions à notre Dieu.
9 be thei oppressid bi werkis, and fille thei tho, that thei assente not to the false wordis.
Qu’ils soient accablés d’ouvrages et qu’ils les accomplissent, et qu’ils n’acquiescent point à des paroles mensongères.
10 Therfor the maistris of the workis and the rente gadereris yeden out to the puple, and seiden, Thus seith Farao, Y yyue not to you stre;
Etant donc sortis, les intendants des travaux et les exacteurs dirent au peuple: Ainsi dit Pharaon: Je ne vous donne point de paille.
11 go ye, and gadere, if ye moun fynde ony where; nether ony thing schal be decreessid of youre werk.
Allez et amassez où vous pourrez trouver, et rien ne sera diminué de votre ouvrage.
12 And the puple was scaterid bi al the lond of Egipt to gadre stre.
Et le peuple se dispersa dans toute la terre d’Egypte pour amasser de la paille.
13 And the maystris of werkis weren bisi, and seiden, Fille ye youre werk ech dai, as ye weren wont to do, whanne the stre was youun to you.
Les intendants des travaux aussi les pressaient, disant: Achevez votre ouvrage chaque jour, comme auparavant vous aviez coutume de faire, quand on vous donnait la paille.
14 And thei, that weren maistris of the werkis of the sones of Israel, weren betun of the rent gadereris of Farao, that seiden, Whi filliden ye not the mesure of tijl stoonus, as bifore, nether yistirdai nethir to dai?
Ceux mêmes qui présidaient aux travaux des enfants d’Israël furent flagellés par les exacteurs de Pharaon, qui leur disaient: Pourquoi n’avez-vous point achevé le nombre de briques, ni hier ni aujourd’hui, comme auparavant?
15 And the souereyns of the sonys of Israel camen, and crieden to Farao, and seiden, Whi doist thou so ayens thi seruauntis?
Alors vinrent les préposés aux enfants d’Israël, et ils vociférèrent contre Pharaon, disant: Pourquoi agissez-vous ainsi contre vos serviteurs?
16 Stre is not youun to vs, and tijl stoonus ben comaundid in lijk manere. Lo! we thi seruauntis ben betun with scourgis, and it is doon vniustli ayens thi puple.
On ne nous donne point de paille, et l’on nous commande également des briques: voici que nous, vos serviteurs, nous sommes déchirés de verges, et que l’on agit injustement contre votre peuple.
17 Farao seide, Ye yyuen tent to idilnesse, and therfor ye seien, Go we, and make we sacrifice to the Lord;
Pharaon répondit: Vous chômez par oisiveté, et c’est pourquoi vous dites: Allons et sacrifions au Seigneur.
18 therfor go ye, and worche; stre schal not be youun to you, and ye schulen yelde the customable noumbre of tijl stoonus.
Allez donc et travaillez; on ne vous donnera point de paille, et vous rendrez le compte accoutumé de briques.
19 And the souereyns of the children of Israel sien hem silf in yuel, for it was seid to hem, No thing schal be decreessid of tijl stoonus bi alle daies.
Ainsi les préposés aux enfants d’Israël se voyaient dans une fâcheuse position, puisqu’il leur était dit: Rien ne sera diminué des briques chaque jour.
20 And thei `camen to Moises and Aaron, that stoden euene ayens, and thei `yeden out fro Farao,
Or ils rencontrèrent Moïse et Aaron qui se trouvaient vis-à-vis, quand ils sortirent d’avec Pharaon,
21 and seiden to `Moises and Aaron, The Lord se, and deme, for ye han maad oure odour to stynke bifore Farao and hise seruauntis; and ye han youe to hym a swerd, that he schulde sle vs.
Et ils leur dirent: Que le Seigneur voie et juge; car vous nous avez mis en mauvaise odeur auprès de Pharaon et de ses serviteurs, et vous lui avez donné un glaive pour qu’il nous tue.
22 And Moises turnede ayen to the Lord, and seide, Lord, whi hast thou turmentid this puple? why sentist thou me?
Alors Moïse retourna vers le Seigneur, et dit: Seigneur, pourquoi avez-vous affligé ce peuple? pourquoi m’avez-vous envoyé?
23 For sithen Y entride to Farao, that Y schulde speke in thi name, thou hast turmentid thi puple, and hast not delyuered hem.
Car depuis que je suis entré auprès de Pharaon pour lui parler en votre nom, il a affligé votre peuple, et vous ne les avez pas délivrés.
