Exodus 5
1 Aftir these thingis Moises and Aaron entriden, and seiden to Farao, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, Delyuere thou my puple, that it make sacrifice to me in deseert.
Moïse et Aaron vinrent ensuite et dirent à Pharaon: « Voici ce que dit Yahvé, le Dieu d'Israël: « Laisse aller mon peuple, pour qu'il me donne une fête dans le désert. »
2 And he answeride, Who is the Lord, that Y here his vois, and delyuere Israel? I knowe not the Lord, and Y schal not delyuere Israel.
Pharaon dit: « Qui est Yahvé, pour que j'écoute sa voix et laisse aller Israël? Je ne connais pas Yahvé, et je ne laisserai pas partir Israël. »
3 Thei seiden, God of Ebrews clepide vs, that we go the weie of thre daies in to wildirnesse, and that we make sacrifice to oure Lord God, lest perauenture pestilence, ether swerd, bifalle to vs.
Ils dirent: « Le Dieu des Hébreux nous a rencontrés. Laissez-nous, je vous prie, aller à trois jours de marche dans le désert, et sacrifier à Yahvé, notre Dieu, de peur qu'il ne tombe sur nous par la peste ou par l'épée. »
4 The kyng of Egipt seide to hem, Moises and Aaron, whi stiren ye the puple fro her werkis? Go ye to youre chargis.
Le roi d'Égypte leur dit: « Pourquoi, Moïse et Aaron, détournez-vous le peuple de son travail? Retournez à vos fardeaux! »
5 And Farao seide, The puple of the loond is myche; ye seen that the cumpany hath encreessid; hou myche more schal it encreesse, if ye schulen yyue to hem reste fro werkis.
Pharaon répondit: « Voici que le peuple du pays est maintenant nombreux, et vous le faites reposer de ses fardeaux. »
6 Therfor Farao comaundide in that dai to the maistris of werkis, and to rente gadereris of the puple,
Le même jour, Pharaon donna cet ordre aux maîtres d'œuvre du peuple et à leurs officiers:
7 and seide, Ye schulen no more yyue stre to the puple, to make tijl stoonys as bifore; but go thei, and gedere stobil;
« Vous ne donnerez plus au peuple de la paille pour faire des briques, comme auparavant. Qu'ils aillent ramasser eux-mêmes de la paille.
8 and ye schulen sette on hem the mesure of tijl stoonys, which thei maden bifore, nether ye schulen abate ony thing; for thei ben idil, and therfor thei crien, and seien, Go we, and make we sacrifice to oure God;
Vous leur demanderez le nombre de briques qu'ils fabriquaient auparavant. Tu n'en diminueras rien, car ils sont oisifs. C'est pourquoi ils crient: « Allons sacrifier à notre Dieu ».
9 be thei oppressid bi werkis, and fille thei tho, that thei assente not to the false wordis.
Que des travaux plus lourds soient confiés aux hommes, afin qu'ils y travaillent. Qu'ils ne fassent pas attention aux paroles mensongères. »
10 Therfor the maistris of the workis and the rente gadereris yeden out to the puple, and seiden, Thus seith Farao, Y yyue not to you stre;
Les maîtres du peuple sortirent avec leurs officiers, et ils parlèrent au peuple en disant: « Voici ce que dit Pharaon: Je ne vous donnerai pas de paille.
11 go ye, and gadere, if ye moun fynde ony where; nether ony thing schal be decreessid of youre werk.
Allez vous-mêmes chercher de la paille où vous pourrez en trouver, car rien de votre travail ne sera diminué. »
12 And the puple was scaterid bi al the lond of Egipt to gadre stre.
Le peuple fut donc dispersé dans tout le pays d'Égypte pour ramasser du chaume en guise de paille.
13 And the maystris of werkis weren bisi, and seiden, Fille ye youre werk ech dai, as ye weren wont to do, whanne the stre was youun to you.
Les maîtres de corvées disaient avec insistance: « Remplissez chaque jour votre quota de travail, comme quand il y avait de la paille! »
14 And thei, that weren maistris of the werkis of the sones of Israel, weren betun of the rent gadereris of Farao, that seiden, Whi filliden ye not the mesure of tijl stoonus, as bifore, nether yistirdai nethir to dai?
Les officiers des enfants d'Israël, que les maîtres de corvées de Pharaon avaient établis sur eux, furent battus et on leur demanda: « Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas rempli votre quota hier et aujourd'hui, en fabriquant des briques comme auparavant? »
15 And the souereyns of the sonys of Israel camen, and crieden to Farao, and seiden, Whi doist thou so ayens thi seruauntis?
Les officiers des enfants d'Israël vinrent et crièrent à Pharaon: « Pourquoi agis-tu ainsi avec tes serviteurs?
16 Stre is not youun to vs, and tijl stoonus ben comaundid in lijk manere. Lo! we thi seruauntis ben betun with scourgis, and it is doon vniustli ayens thi puple.
On ne donne pas de paille à tes serviteurs, et ils nous disent: « Fais des briques », et voilà que tes serviteurs sont battus; mais la faute en revient à ton peuple. »
17 Farao seide, Ye yyuen tent to idilnesse, and therfor ye seien, Go we, and make we sacrifice to the Lord;
Mais Pharaon dit: « Tu es oisif! Vous êtes oisifs! C'est pourquoi vous dites: « Allons sacrifier à Yahvé ».
18 therfor go ye, and worche; stre schal not be youun to you, and ye schulen yelde the customable noumbre of tijl stoonus.
Va donc maintenant, et travaille; on ne te donnera pas de paille, mais tu livreras le même nombre de briques! ».
19 And the souereyns of the children of Israel sien hem silf in yuel, for it was seid to hem, No thing schal be decreessid of tijl stoonus bi alle daies.
Les officiers des enfants d'Israël virent qu'ils avaient des ennuis quand on leur dit: « Vous ne diminuerez rien de votre quota quotidien de briques! »
20 And thei `camen to Moises and Aaron, that stoden euene ayens, and thei `yeden out fro Farao,
Ils rencontrèrent Moïse et Aaron, qui se tenaient le long du chemin, comme ils sortaient de chez Pharaon.
21 and seiden to `Moises and Aaron, The Lord se, and deme, for ye han maad oure odour to stynke bifore Farao and hise seruauntis; and ye han youe to hym a swerd, that he schulde sle vs.
Ils leur dirent: « Que Yahvé vous regarde et vous juge, car vous avez fait de nous un objet d'horreur aux yeux de Pharaon et aux yeux de ses serviteurs, afin de mettre une épée dans leur main pour nous tuer! ».
22 And Moises turnede ayen to the Lord, and seide, Lord, whi hast thou turmentid this puple? why sentist thou me?
Moïse retourna auprès de Yahvé et dit: « Seigneur, pourquoi as-tu fait venir la détresse sur ce peuple? Pourquoi m'as-tu envoyé?
23 For sithen Y entride to Farao, that Y schulde speke in thi name, thou hast turmentid thi puple, and hast not delyuered hem.
Car depuis que je suis allé parler en ton nom à Pharaon, il a fait venir le malheur sur ce peuple. Tu n'as pas du tout secouru ton peuple! »
