Exodus 32
1 Forsothe the puple siy, that Moises made tariyng to come doun fro the hil, and it was gaderid ayens Aaron, and seide, Rise thou, and make goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
Men da folket så at Moses drygde med å komme ned fra fjellet, samlet folket sig om Aron og sa til ham: Kom, gjør oss en gud som kan dra foran oss! For denne Moses, han som førte oss op fra Egyptens land - vi vet ikke hvad det er blitt av ham.
2 And Aaron seide to hem, Take ye the goldun eere ryngis fro the eeris of youre wyues, and of sones and douytris, and brynge ye to me.
Da sa Aron til dem: Ta gullringene som eders hustruer, eders sønner og eders døtre har i sine ører, og kom til mig med dem!
3 The puple dide tho thingis, that he comaundide, and brouyte eere ryngis to Aaron;
Da tok alt folket gullringene ut av sine ører og kom til Aron med dem;
4 and whanne he hadde take tho, he formede bi `werk of yetyng, and made of tho a yotun calf. And thei seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt.
og han tok imot gullet og støpte det om og laget det med meiselen til en kalv. Da sa de: Dette er din Gud, Israel, som førte dig op fra Egyptens land.
5 And whanne Aaron had seyn this thing, he bildide an auter bifore hym, and he criede bi the vois of a criere, and seide, To morewe is the solempnete of the Lord.
Da Aron så dette, bygget han et alter for den og lot utrope: Imorgen er det høitid for Herren!
6 And thei rysen eerli, and offeriden brent sacrifyces, and pesible sacrifices; and the puple sat to ete and drynke, and thei risen to pley.
Dagen efter stod de tidlig op og ofret brennoffer og bar frem takkoffer; og folket satte sig ned for å ete og drikke og stod op for å leke.
7 Forsothe the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, Go thou, go doun, thi puple hath synned, `whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt.
Da sa Herren til Moses: Skynd dig og stig ned! Ditt folk, som du har ført op fra Egyptens land, har fordervet sin vei.
8 Thei yeden awei soone fro the weie which thou schewidst to hem, and thei maden to hem a yotun calf, and worschipyden it, and thei offeriden sacrifices to it, and seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ledden thee out of the lond of Egipt.
De er hastig veket av fra den vei jeg bød dem å vandre; de har gjort sig en støpt kalv; den har de tilbedt og ofret til og sagt: Dette er din Gud, Israel, som førte dig op fra Egyptens land.
9 And eft the Lord seide to Moises, Y se, that this puple is of hard nol;
Og Herren sa til Moses: Jeg har lagt merke til dette folk og sett at det er et hårdnakket folk.
10 suffre thou me, that my woodnesse be wrooth ayens hem, and that Y do awey hem; and Y schal make thee in to a greet folk.
La nu mig få råde, så min vrede kan optendes mot dem, og jeg kan ødelegge dem; så vil jeg gjøre dig til et stort folk.
11 Forsothe Moises preiede `his Lord God, and seide, Lord, whi is thi veniaunce wrooth ayens thi puple, whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt in greet strengthe and in stronge hond?
Men Moses bønnfalt Herren sin Gud og sa: Herre! Hvorfor skal din vrede optendes mot ditt folk, som du har ført ut av Egyptens land med stor kraft og med veldig hånd?
12 Y biseche, that Egipcians seie not, he ledde hem out felli, `that he schulde sle in the hillis, and to do awei fro erthe, thin ire ceesse, and be thou quemeful on the wickidnesse of thi puple.
Hvorfor skal egypterne si: Til ulykke har han ført dem ut; han vilde slå dem ihjel i fjellene og utrydde dem av jorden? Vend om fra din brennende vrede og angre det onde du har tenkt å gjøre mot ditt folk!
13 Haue thou mynde of Abraham, of Ysaac, and of Israel, thi seruauntis, to whiche thou hast swore bi thi silf, and seidist, Y schal multiplie youre seed as the sterris of heuene, and Y schal yyue to youre seed al this lond of which Y spak, and ye schulen welde it euere.
Kom i hu dine tjenere Abraham, Isak og Israel, til hvem du har sagt og svoret ved dig selv: Jeg vil gjøre eders ætt tallrik som stjernene på himmelen, og hele dette land som jeg har talt om, vil jeg gi eders ætt, og de skal eie det til evig tid.
14 And the Lord was plesid, that he dide not the yuel which he spak ayens his puple.
Så angret Herren det onde han hadde talt om å gjøre mot sitt folk.
15 And Moises turnede ayen fro the hil, and bar in his hond twei tablis of witnessyng, writun in euer either side,
Og Moses vendte sig og gikk ned fra fjellet med vidnesbyrdets to tavler i sin hånd, og på begge sider av tavlene var der skrevet; både på forsiden og baksiden var der skrevet.
16 and maad bi the werk of God; and the writyng of God was grauun in tablis.
Og tavlene var Guds arbeid, og skriften var Guds skrift, som var inngravd på tavlene.
17 Forsothe Josue herde the noise of the puple criynge, and seide to Moyses, Yellyng of fiytyng is herd in the castels.
Da Josva hørte hvorledes folket støiet og skrek, sa han til Moses: Det lyder krigsrop i leiren.
18 To whom Moises answeride, It is not cry of men exitynge to batel, nether the cry of men compellynge to fleyng, but Y here the vois of syngeris.
Men han svarte: Det lyder ikke som seiersrop og ikke som skrik over mannefall; det er lyd av sang jeg hører.
19 And whanne he hadde neiyid to the castels, he siy the calf, and dauncis; and he was wrooth greetli, and `castide forth the tablis fro the hond, and brak tho at the rootis of the hil.
Og da Moses kom nær til leiren, så han kalven og dansen; da optendtes hans vrede; han kastet tavlene fra sig og slo dem i stykker ved foten av fjellet.
20 And he took the calf, which thei hadden maad, and brente, and brak `til to poudur, which he spreynte in to watir, and yaf therof drynke to the sones of Israel.
Og han tok kalven som de hadde gjort, og kastet den på ilden og knuste den til den blev til støv, og støvet strødde han ovenpå vannet og gav Israels barn det å drikke.
21 And Moises seide to Aaron, What dide this puple to thee, that thou brouytist in on hym the gretteste synne?
Så sa Moses til Aron: Hvad har dette folk gjort dig, siden du har ført så stor en synd over det?
22 To whom he answeride, My lord, be not wrooth, for thou knowist this puple, that it is enclynaunt to yuel;
Aron svarte: La ikke din vrede optendes, herre! Du vet selv at dette folk ligger i det onde;
23 thei seiden to me, Make thou goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not, what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
de sa til mig: Gjør oss en gud som kan dra foran oss! For denne Moses, han som førte oss op fra Egyptens land - vi vet ikke hvad det er blitt av ham.
24 To whiche Y seide, Who of you hath gold? Thei token, and yauen to me, and Y castide it forth in to the fier, and this calf yede out.
Da sa jeg til dem: Den som har gullsmykker på sig, ta dem av sig! Så gav de mig dem, og jeg kastet dem på ilden, og således blev denne kalv til.
25 Therfor Moyses siy the puple, that it was maad bare; for Aaron hadde spuylid it for the schenschip of filthe, and hadde maad the puple nakid among enemyes.
Da Moses så at folket var ustyrlig - for Aron hadde sloppet det løs til spott for deres motstandere -
26 And Moises stood in the yate of the castels, and seide, If ony man is of the Lord, be he ioyned to me; and alle the sones of Leuy weren gaderid to hym.
så stilte han sig i porten til leiren og sa: Hver den som hører Herren til, han komme hit til mig! Da samlet alle Levis barn sig om ham.
27 To whiche he seide, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, A man putte swerd on his hipe, go ye, and `go ye ayen fro yate `til to yate bi the myddil of the castels, and ech man sle his brother, freend, and neiybore.
Og han sa til dem: Så sier Herren, Israels Gud: Hver binde sitt sverd ved sin lend! Gå så frem og tilbake fra port til port i leiren og slå ihjel hver sin bror og hver sin venn og hver sin frende!
28 The sones of Leuy diden bi the word of Moises, and as thre and twenti thousynd of men felden doun in that day.
Og Levis barn gjorde som Moses sa; og den dag falt det av folket omkring tre tusen mann.
29 And Moises seide, Ye han halewid youre hondis to dai to the Lord, ech man in his sone, and brother, that blessyng be youun to you.
For Moses sa: Innvi eder idag til prester for Herren, om det så er med blodet av sønn eller bror; så skal han idag gi eder sin velsignelse.
30 Sotheli whanne `the tother day was maad, Moises spak to the puple, Ye han synned the moost synne; Y schal stie to the Lord, if in ony maner Y schal mowe biseche hym for youre felony.
Dagen efter sa Moses til folket: I har gjort en stor synd. Nu vil jeg stige op til Herren; kanskje jeg kunde gjøre soning for eders synd.
31 And he turnede ayen to the Lord, and seide, Lord, Y biseche, this puple hath synned a greet synne, and thei han maad goldun goddis to hem; ethir foryyue thou this gilt to hem,
Så vendte Moses tilbake til Herren og sa: Akk, dette folk har gjort en stor synd; de har gjort sig en gud av gull.
32 ether if thou doist not, do awey me fro thi book, which thou hast write.
Å, om du vilde forlate dem deres synd! Men hvis ikke, da slett mig ut av din bok som du har skrevet!
33 To whom the Lord answeride, Y schal do awey fro my book hym that synneth ayens me;
Da sa Herren til Moses: Hver den som har syndet mot mig, ham vil jeg slette ut av min bok.
34 forsothe go thou, and lede this puple, whydur Y spak to thee; myn aungel schal go bifore thee; forsothe in the day of veniaunce Y schal visite also this synne of hem.
Så gå nu og før folket dit jeg har sagt dig! Se, min engel skal gå foran dig, men på min hjemsøkelses dag vil jeg hjemsøke dem for deres synd.
35 Therfor the Lord smoot the puple for the gilt of the calf, which calf Aaron made.
Således slo Herren folket fordi de hadde gjort kalven - den som Aron hadde laget.
