Exodus 32
1 Forsothe the puple siy, that Moises made tariyng to come doun fro the hil, and it was gaderid ayens Aaron, and seide, Rise thou, and make goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
Als aber das Volk sah, daß sich die Rückkunft Moses vom Berge verzögerte, scharte sich das Volk um Aaron und forderte ihn auf: Wohlan, schaffe uns einen Gott, der vor uns einherziehe; denn wir wissen nicht, was jenem Manne Mose, der uns aus Ägypten weggeführt hat, zugestoßen ist.
2 And Aaron seide to hem, Take ye the goldun eere ryngis fro the eeris of youre wyues, and of sones and douytris, and brynge ye to me.
Da sprach Aaron zu ihnen: Reißt die goldenen Ringe ab, die eure Weiber, Söhne und Töchter an den Ohren tragen, und bringt sie mir her.
3 The puple dide tho thingis, that he comaundide, and brouyte eere ryngis to Aaron;
Da rissen sich alle Leute die goldenen Ringe ab, die sie an den Ohren trugen, und brachten sie Aaron.
4 and whanne he hadde take tho, he formede bi `werk of yetyng, and made of tho a yotun calf. And thei seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt.
Der nahm das Gold von ihnen in Empfang, bearbeitete es mit dem Meißel und machte daraus ein gegossenes Kalb. Da riefen sie: Das ist dein Gott, o Israel, der dich aus Ägypten weggeführt hat!
5 And whanne Aaron had seyn this thing, he bildide an auter bifore hym, and he criede bi the vois of a criere, and seide, To morewe is the solempnete of the Lord.
Als dies Aaron sah, errichtete er vor ihm einen Altar; und Aaron ließ ausrufen: Morgen wird Jahwe ein Fest gefeiert!
6 And thei rysen eerli, and offeriden brent sacrifyces, and pesible sacrifices; and the puple sat to ete and drynke, and thei risen to pley.
Des anderen Tages früh opferten sie Brandopfer und brachten Heilsopfer dar, und das Volk setzte sich hin, um zu essen und zu trinken; dann standen sie auf, um sich zu belustigen.
7 Forsothe the Lord spak to Moises, and seide, Go thou, go doun, thi puple hath synned, `whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt.
Da befahl Jahwe Mose: Auf! steige hinab, denn dein Volk, das du aus Ägypten weggeführt hast, handelt verderbt!
8 Thei yeden awei soone fro the weie which thou schewidst to hem, and thei maden to hem a yotun calf, and worschipyden it, and thei offeriden sacrifices to it, and seiden, Israel, these ben thi goddis, that ledden thee out of the lond of Egipt.
Gar schnell sind sie von dem Wege abgewichen, den ich ihnen vorgeschrieben habe; sie haben sich ein gegossenes Kalb gemacht und es angebetet, haben ihm Opfer dargebracht und gerufen: Das ist dein Gott, o Israel, der dich aus Ägypten weggeführt hat!
9 And eft the Lord seide to Moises, Y se, that this puple is of hard nol;
Und Jahwe sprach zu Mose: Ich sehe nun wohl, daß dieses Volk ein halsstarriges Volk ist.
10 suffre thou me, that my woodnesse be wrooth ayens hem, and that Y do awey hem; and Y schal make thee in to a greet folk.
So laß mich nun, daß mein Zorn gegen sie entbrenne, und ich sie vernichte; dann will ich dich zum Stammvater eines großen Volkes machen.
11 Forsothe Moises preiede `his Lord God, and seide, Lord, whi is thi veniaunce wrooth ayens thi puple, whom thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt in greet strengthe and in stronge hond?
Mose aber suchte Jahwe, seinen Gott, zu begütigen, indem er sprach: O Jahwe! Warum bist du so sehr zornig über dein Volk, das du doch mit großer Kraft und starker Hand aus Ägypten weggeführt hast?
12 Y biseche, that Egipcians seie not, he ledde hem out felli, `that he schulde sle in the hillis, and to do awei fro erthe, thin ire ceesse, and be thou quemeful on the wickidnesse of thi puple.
Es sollen doch nicht etwa die Ägypter sagen: In schlimmer Absicht hat er sie weggeführt, um sie in den Bergen umzubringen und sie vom Erdboden zu vertilgen? Laß ab von deinem heftigen Zorn und laß dich das Unheil gereuen, das du deinem Volke zugedacht hast.
13 Haue thou mynde of Abraham, of Ysaac, and of Israel, thi seruauntis, to whiche thou hast swore bi thi silf, and seidist, Y schal multiplie youre seed as the sterris of heuene, and Y schal yyue to youre seed al this lond of which Y spak, and ye schulen welde it euere.
Gedenke deiner Diener Abraham, Isaak und Israel, denen du bei dir selbst zugeschworen und verheißen hast: Ich will eure Nachkommen so zahlreich werden lassen, wie die Sterne am Himmel, und dieses ganze Land, von dem ich gesprochen habe, will ich euren Nachkommen verleihen, damit sie es auf ewige Zeiten besitzen!
14 And the Lord was plesid, that he dide not the yuel which he spak ayens his puple.
Da ließ sich Jahwe das Unheil gereuen, das er seinem Volke angedroht hatte.
15 And Moises turnede ayen fro the hil, and bar in his hond twei tablis of witnessyng, writun in euer either side,
Mose aber machte sich auf den Rückweg und stieg vom Berge hinab, mit den beiden Gesetztafeln in der Hand, - Tafeln, die auf beiden Seiten beschrieben waren; vorn und hinten waren sie beschrieben.
16 and maad bi the werk of God; and the writyng of God was grauun in tablis.
Es waren aber die Tafeln von Gott angefertigt und die Schrift Gottesschrift, eingegraben auf die Tafeln.
17 Forsothe Josue herde the noise of the puple criynge, and seide to Moyses, Yellyng of fiytyng is herd in the castels.
Als nun Josua das laute Gelärm des Volkes vernahm, sagte er zu Mose: Es ist Kriegslärm im Lager!
18 To whom Moises answeride, It is not cry of men exitynge to batel, nether the cry of men compellynge to fleyng, but Y here the vois of syngeris.
Der aber erwiderte: Das ist kein Geschrei, wie es Sieger, und kein Geschrei, wie es Unterliegende anheben; Gesangestöne höre ich!
19 And whanne he hadde neiyid to the castels, he siy the calf, and dauncis; and he was wrooth greetli, and `castide forth the tablis fro the hond, and brak tho at the rootis of the hil.
Als er nun in die Nähe des Lagers kam und das Kalb, sowie die Reihen der Tanzenden erblickte, da entbrannte der Zorn Moses, so daß er die Tafeln wegwarf und sie am Fuße des Berges zerschmetterte.
20 And he took the calf, which thei hadden maad, and brente, and brak `til to poudur, which he spreynte in to watir, and yaf therof drynke to the sones of Israel.
Dann nahm er das Kalb, das sie gemacht hatten, verbrannte es und zermalmte es zu feinem Staube; den streute er auf Wasser und gab es den Israeliten zu trinken.
21 And Moises seide to Aaron, What dide this puple to thee, that thou brouytist in on hym the gretteste synne?
Und zu Aaron sprach Mose: Was haben dir diese Leute gethan, daß du eine so schwere Versündigung über sie gebracht hast?
22 To whom he answeride, My lord, be not wrooth, for thou knowist this puple, that it is enclynaunt to yuel;
Aaron erwiderte: O Herr! zürne nicht; du weißt es ja selbst, daß das Volk zum Bösen geneigt ist.
23 thei seiden to me, Make thou goddis to vs, that schulen go bifore vs, for we witen not, what bifelde to this Moises, that ladde vs out of the lond of Egipt.
Sie baten mich: Mache uns einen Gott, der vor uns einherziehe; denn wir wissen nicht, was jenem Manne Mose, der uns aus Ägypten hierher geführt hat, zugestoßen ist.
24 To whiche Y seide, Who of you hath gold? Thei token, and yauen to me, and Y castide it forth in to the fier, and this calf yede out.
Da gebot ich ihnen: Wer Gold trägt, der reiße es sich ab! Da gaben sie es mir, und ich warf es ins Feuer; da wurde dieses Kalb daraus!
25 Therfor Moyses siy the puple, that it was maad bare; for Aaron hadde spuylid it for the schenschip of filthe, and hadde maad the puple nakid among enemyes.
Als nun Mose sah, daß das Volk aus Rand und Band gekommen war - denn Aaron hatte ihm die Zügel schießen lassen, zur Schadenfreude seiner Feinde -,
26 And Moises stood in the yate of the castels, and seide, If ony man is of the Lord, be he ioyned to me; and alle the sones of Leuy weren gaderid to hym.
da trat Mose an das Thor des Lagers und rief: Her zu mir, wer Jahwe angehört! Da sammelten sich um ihn alle Leviten.
27 To whiche he seide, The Lord God of Israel seith these thingis, A man putte swerd on his hipe, go ye, and `go ye ayen fro yate `til to yate bi the myddil of the castels, and ech man sle his brother, freend, and neiybore.
Er aber sprach zu ihnen: So spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels: Gürtet ein jeder sein Schwert um, geht im Lager hin und her, von einem Thore zum andern und schlagt tot, wer es sei, Brüder, Freunde und Verwandte!
28 The sones of Leuy diden bi the word of Moises, and as thre and twenti thousynd of men felden doun in that day.
Die Leviten aber thaten nach dem Befehle Moses, und so fielen an jenem Tage vom Volk ungefähr dreitausend Mann.
29 And Moises seide, Ye han halewid youre hondis to dai to the Lord, ech man in his sone, and brother, that blessyng be youun to you.
Da sprach Mose: Füllt euch heute die Hand für Jahwe - denn ein jeder war wider seinen Sohn und seinen Bruder -, damit fortan Segen auf euch ruhe!
30 Sotheli whanne `the tother day was maad, Moises spak to the puple, Ye han synned the moost synne; Y schal stie to the Lord, if in ony maner Y schal mowe biseche hym for youre felony.
Des andern Tags aber sprach Mose zu dem Volke: Ihr habt euch sehr schwer versündigt! Ich will daher zu Jahwe hinaufsteigen; vielleicht kann ich euch Verzeihung auswirken für eure Sünde.
31 And he turnede ayen to the Lord, and seide, Lord, Y biseche, this puple hath synned a greet synne, and thei han maad goldun goddis to hem; ethir foryyue thou this gilt to hem,
Da ging Mose wieder zu Jahwe und sprach: Ach! dieses Volk hat sich sehr schwer versündigt und sich einen Gott aus Gold verfertigt.
32 ether if thou doist not, do awey me fro thi book, which thou hast write.
Und nun vergieb ihnen doch ihre Sünde! Wo nicht, so streiche mich doch lieber aus dem Buche, das du führst!
33 To whom the Lord answeride, Y schal do awey fro my book hym that synneth ayens me;
Jahwe aber entgegnete Mose: Wer irgend sich gegen mich verfehlt, den streiche ich aus meinem Buche.
34 forsothe go thou, and lede this puple, whydur Y spak to thee; myn aungel schal go bifore thee; forsothe in the day of veniaunce Y schal visite also this synne of hem.
Aber gehe jetzt nur hin und führe das Volk dorthin, wohin ich dir geboten habe; mein Engel soll vor dir hergehen. Aber wenn die Zeit der Ahndung für mich da ist, will ich ihre Versündigung ahnden.
35 Therfor the Lord smoot the puple for the gilt of the calf, which calf Aaron made.
Und Jahwe verhängte Unheil über das Volk, weil sie das Kalb verfertigt hatten, welches Aaron verfertigt hatte.
