Exodus 20
1 And the Lord spak alle these wordis, Y am thi Lord God,
Alors Dieu prononça toutes ces paroles, en disant:
2 that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt, fro the hous of seruage.
Je suis l’Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t’ai fait sortir du pays d’Égypte, de la maison de servitude.
3 Thou schalt not haue alien goddis bifore me.
Tu n’auras pas d’autres dieux devant ma face.
4 Thou schalt not make to thee a grauun ymage, nethir ony licnesse of thing which is in heuene aboue, and which is in erthe bynethe, nether of tho thingis, that ben in watris vndur erthe; thou schalt not `herie tho,
Tu ne te feras point d’image taillée, ni de représentation quelconque des choses qui sont en haut dans les cieux, qui sont en bas sur la terre, et qui sont dans les eaux plus bas que la terre.
5 nether `thou schalt worschipe; for Y am thi Lord God, a stronge gelouse louyere; and Y visite the wickidnesse of fadris in to the thridde and the fourthe generacioun of hem that haten me,
Tu ne te prosterneras point devant elles, et tu ne les serviras point; car moi, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, je suis un Dieu jaloux, qui punis l’iniquité des pères sur les enfants jusqu’à la troisième et la quatrième génération de ceux qui me haïssent,
6 and Y do mercy in to `a thousynde, to hem that louen me, and kepen myn heestis.
et qui fais miséricorde jusqu’en mille générations à ceux qui m’aiment et qui gardent mes commandements.
7 Thou schalt not take in veyn the name of thi Lord God, for the Lord schal not haue hym giltles, that takith in veyn the name of his Lord God.
Tu ne prendras point le nom de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, en vain; car l’Éternel ne laissera point impuni celui qui prendra son nom en vain.
8 Haue thou mynde, that thou halowe the `dai of the sabat;
Souviens-toi du jour du repos, pour le sanctifier.
9 in sixe daies thou schalt worche and schalt do alle thi werkis;
Tu travailleras six jours, et tu feras tout ton ouvrage.
10 forsothe in the seuenthe day is the sabat of thi Lord God; thou schalt not do ony werk, thou, and thi sone, and thi douytir, and thi seruaunt, and thin handmaide, thi werk beeste, and the comelyng which is withynne thi yatis;
Mais le septième jour est le jour du repos de l’Éternel, ton Dieu: tu ne feras aucun ouvrage, ni toi, ni ton fils, ni ta fille, ni ton serviteur, ni ta servante, ni ton bétail, ni l’étranger qui est dans tes portes.
11 for in sixe dayes God made heuene and erthe, the see, and alle thingis that ben in tho, and restide in the seuenthe dai; herfor the Lord blesside the `dai of the sabat, and halewide it.
Car en six jours l’Éternel a fait les cieux, la terre et la mer, et tout ce qui y est contenu, et il s’est reposé le septième jour: c’est pourquoi l’Éternel a béni le jour du repos et l’a sanctifié.
12 Onoure thi fadir and thi moder, that thou be long lyuyng on the lond, which thi Lord God schal yyue to thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère, afin que tes jours se prolongent dans le pays que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te donne.
13 Thou schalt not sle.
Tu ne tueras point.
14 Thou schalt `do no letcherie.
Tu ne commettras point d’adultère.
15 Thou schalt `do no theft.
Tu ne déroberas point.
16 Thou schalt not speke fals witnessyng ayens thi neiybore.
Tu ne porteras point de faux témoignage contre ton prochain.
17 Thou schalt not coueyte `the hous of thi neiybore, nether thou schalt desyre his wijf, not seruaunt, not handmaide, not oxe, not asse, nether alle thingis that ben hise.
Tu ne convoiteras point la maison de ton prochain; tu ne convoiteras point la femme de ton prochain, ni son serviteur, ni sa servante, ni son bœuf, ni son âne, ni aucune chose qui appartienne à ton prochain.
18 Forsothe al the puple herde voices, and siy laumpis, and the sowne of a clarioun, and the hil smokynge; and thei weren afeerd, and schakun with inward drede, and stoden afer,
Tout le peuple entendait les tonnerres et le son de la trompette; il voyait les flammes de la montagne fumante. A ce spectacle, le peuple tremblait, et se tenait dans l’éloignement.
19 and seiden to Moises, Speke thou to vs, and we schulen here; the Lord speke not to vs, lest perauenture we dien.
Ils dirent à Moïse: Parle-nous toi-même, et nous écouterons; mais que Dieu ne nous parle point, de peur que nous ne mourions.
20 And Moises seide to the puple, Nyle ye drede, for God cam to proue you, and that his drede schulde be in you, and that ye schulden not do synne.
Moïse dit au peuple: Ne vous effrayez pas; car c’est pour vous mettre à l’épreuve que Dieu est venu, et c’est pour que vous ayez sa crainte devant les yeux, afin que vous ne péchiez point.
21 And the puple stood afer; forsothe Moises neiyede to the derknesse, wherynne God was.
Le peuple restait dans l’éloignement; mais Moïse s’approcha de la nuée où était Dieu.
22 And the Lord seide ferthermore to Moises, Thou schalt seie these thingis to the sones of Israel, Ye seiyen that fro heuene Y spak to you;
L’Éternel dit à Moïse: Tu parleras ainsi aux enfants d’Israël: Vous avez vu que je vous ai parlé depuis les cieux.
23 ye schulen not make goddis of silver, nethir ye schulen make to you goddis of gold.
Vous ne ferez point des dieux d’argent et des dieux d’or, pour me les associer; vous ne vous en ferez point.
24 Ye schulen make an auter of erthe to me, and ye schulen offre theronne youre brent sacrifices, and pesible sacrifices, youre scheep, and oxun, in ech place in which the mynde of my name schal be; Y schal come to thee, and Y schal blesse thee.
Tu m’élèveras un autel de terre, sur lequel tu offriras tes holocaustes et tes sacrifices d’actions de grâces, tes brebis et tes bœufs. Partout où je rappellerai mon nom, je viendrai à toi, et je te bénirai.
25 That if thou schalt make an auter of stoon to me, thou schalt not bilde it of stoonys hewun; for if thou schalt reise thi knyif theronne, it schal be `polluted, ether defoulid.
Si tu m’élèves un autel de pierre, tu ne le bâtiras point en pierres taillées; car en passant ton ciseau sur la pierre, tu la profanerais.
26 Thou schalt not stye bi grees to myn auter, lest thi filthe be schewid.
Tu ne monteras point à mon autel par des degrés, afin que ta nudité ne soit pas découverte.
