Exodus 17
1 Therfor al the multitude of the sones of Israel yede forth fro the deseert of Syn, bi her dwellyngis, bi the word of the Lord, and settiden tentis in Rafidym, where was not watir to the puple to drynke.
So tok heile Israels-lyden ut frå Sinheidi, og for dagsleid etter dagsleid, soleis som Herren sagde deim fyre. Sidan lægra dei seg i Refidim; med der fanst det ikkje vatn so folket kunde få drikka.
2 Whiche puple chidde ayens Moises, and seide, Yyue thou water to vs, that we drynke. To whiche Moises answeride, What chiden ye ayens me, and whi tempten ye the Lord?
Og folket trætta med Moses og sagde: «Gjev oss vatn, so me fær drikka!» Då sagde Moses med deim: «Kvi trættar de med meg? Kvi freistar de Herren?»
3 Therfor the puple thristide there for the scarsnesse of watir, and grutchiden ayens Moises, and seide, Whi madist thou vs to go out of Egipt, to sle vs, and oure fre children, and beestis, for thrist?
Men folket tyrsta etter vatn, og dei mukka mot Moses og sagde: «Kvi hev du då ført oss burt frå Egyptarland? Vil du då at me og borni våre og feet vårt skal døy av torste?»
4 Forsothe Moises criede to the Lord, and seide, What schal Y do to this puple? yit a litil, also it schal stone me.
Då ropa Moses til Herren og sagde: «Kva skal eg gjera med dette folket? Det er ikkje lenge fyrr dei steinar meg!»
5 The Lord seide to Moises, Go thou bifore the puple, and take with thee of the eldre men of Israel, and take in thin hond the yerde, `bi which thou hast smyte the flood, and go; lo!
Og Herren sagde til Moses: «Far i veg fyre folket! Få med deg nokre av dei øvste i Israel, og staven din som du slo i elvi med, tak den i handi, og gakk so!
6 Y schal stonde there before thee, aboue the stoon of Oreb, and thou schalt smyte the stoon, and water schal go out therof, that the puple drynke. Moises dide so byfore the eldere men of Israel;
Du skal få sjå meg standa midt for augo dine uppyver ei ufs der burte på Horeb; då skal du slå på ufsi, og det skal koma vatn ut or henne, so folket fær drikka.» Moses gjorde som Herren sagde, so dei øvste i Israel såg på det.
7 and he clepide the name of that place Temptacioun, for the chidyng of the sones of Israel, and for thei temptiden the Lord, and seiden, Whether the Lord is in vs, ether nay?
Den staden kalla han Massa og Meriba, av di at Israels-folket trætta med honom, og av di dei freista Herren og sagde: «Er Herren imillom oss eller ikkje?»
8 Forsothe Amalech cam, and fauyt ayens Israel in Rafidym.
Sidan kom Amalek-mennerne og gav seg i strid med Israel i Refidim.
9 And Moises seide to Josue, Chese thou men, and go out, and fiyte to morewe ayens men of Amalech; lo! Y schal stonde in the cop of the hil, and Y schal haue `the yerde of God in myn hond.
Då sagde Moses til Josva: «Vel oss ut nokre menner, og tak ut og haldt slag med Amalek-heren, so skal eg i morgon standa øvst på haugen med gudsstaven i handi.»
10 Josue dide as Moises spak, and fauyt ayens Amalech. Forsothe Moises, and Aaron, and Hur stieden on the cop of the hil;
Josva gjorde som Moses sagde til honom og slost med Amalek-heren, og Moses og Aron og Hur steig upp på høgste haugen.
11 and whanne Moises reiside the hondis, Israel ouercam; forsothe if he let down a litil, Amalech ouercam.
Då gjekk det so at når Moses heldt handi i veret, hadde Israel yvertaket, og når han let handi siga, so vann Amalek.
12 Sotheli `the hondis of Moises weren heuy, therfor thei token a stoon, and puttide vndir hym, in which stoon he sat. Forsothe Aaron and Hur susteyneden hise hondis, on euer eithir side; and it was don, that hise hondis weren not maad weri, til to the goyng down of the sunne.
Men so tok Moses til å trøytna i henderne; då tok dei ein stein og lagde til rettes for honom; den sette han seg på, og Aron og Hur studde henderne hans, ein på kvar sida. Då heldt han henderne støde alt til soli var gladd.
13 And Josue droof a wey Amalech and his puple, in `the mouth of swerd, that is, bi the scharpnesse of the swerd.
Josva hogg ned Amalek-kongen og folket hans med kvasse sverdet.
14 Forsothe the Lord seide to Moises, Wryte thou this in a book, for mynde, and take in the eeris of Josue; for Y schal do a wei the mynde of Amalech fro vndur heuene.
Og Herren sagde til Moses: «Skriv dette upp i ei bok, so det ikkje gjeng dykk or minne, og lat Josva feste det i hugen at eg vil rydja ut av jordi alt som ber Amalek-namnet.»
15 And Moises bildide an auter, and clepide the name therof The Lord myn enhaunsere,
Då bygde Moses eit altar og kalla det: «Herren er hermerket mitt»,
16 and seide, For the hond of the Lord aloone, and the bateil of God schal be ayens Amalech, fro generacioun in to generacioun.
og han kvad: «Frå Herrens høgsæte ei hand er lyft! Med ufred søkjer han Amalek, ætt for ætt.»
