Exodus 17
1 Therfor al the multitude of the sones of Israel yede forth fro the deseert of Syn, bi her dwellyngis, bi the word of the Lord, and settiden tentis in Rafidym, where was not watir to the puple to drynke.
Toute l’assemblée des enfants d’Israël partit du désert de Sin, selon les marches que l’Éternel leur avait ordonnées; et ils campèrent à Rephidim, où le peuple ne trouva point d’eau à boire.
2 Whiche puple chidde ayens Moises, and seide, Yyue thou water to vs, that we drynke. To whiche Moises answeride, What chiden ye ayens me, and whi tempten ye the Lord?
Alors le peuple chercha querelle à Moïse. Ils dirent: Donnez-nous de l’eau à boire. Moïse leur répondit: Pourquoi me cherchez-vous querelle? Pourquoi tentez-vous l’Éternel?
3 Therfor the puple thristide there for the scarsnesse of watir, and grutchiden ayens Moises, and seide, Whi madist thou vs to go out of Egipt, to sle vs, and oure fre children, and beestis, for thrist?
Le peuple était là, pressé par la soif, et murmurait contre Moïse. Il disait: Pourquoi nous as-tu fait monter hors d’Égypte, pour me faire mourir de soif avec mes enfants et mes troupeaux?
4 Forsothe Moises criede to the Lord, and seide, What schal Y do to this puple? yit a litil, also it schal stone me.
Moïse cria à l’Éternel, en disant: Que ferai-je à ce peuple? Encore un peu, et ils me lapideront.
5 The Lord seide to Moises, Go thou bifore the puple, and take with thee of the eldre men of Israel, and take in thin hond the yerde, `bi which thou hast smyte the flood, and go; lo!
L’Éternel dit à Moïse: Passe devant le peuple, et prends avec toi des anciens d’Israël; prends aussi dans ta main ta verge avec laquelle tu as frappé le fleuve, et marche!
6 Y schal stonde there before thee, aboue the stoon of Oreb, and thou schalt smyte the stoon, and water schal go out therof, that the puple drynke. Moises dide so byfore the eldere men of Israel;
Voici, je me tiendrai devant toi sur le rocher d’Horeb; tu frapperas le rocher, et il en sortira de l’eau, et le peuple boira. Et Moïse fit ainsi, aux yeux des anciens d’Israël.
7 and he clepide the name of that place Temptacioun, for the chidyng of the sones of Israel, and for thei temptiden the Lord, and seiden, Whether the Lord is in vs, ether nay?
Il donna à ce lieu le nom de Massa et Meriba, parce que les enfants d’Israël avaient contesté, et parce qu’ils avaient tenté l’Éternel, en disant: L’Éternel est-il au milieu de nous, ou n’y est-il pas?
8 Forsothe Amalech cam, and fauyt ayens Israel in Rafidym.
Amalek vint combattre Israël à Rephidim.
9 And Moises seide to Josue, Chese thou men, and go out, and fiyte to morewe ayens men of Amalech; lo! Y schal stonde in the cop of the hil, and Y schal haue `the yerde of God in myn hond.
Alors Moïse dit à Josué: Choisis-nous des hommes, sors, et combats Amalek; demain je me tiendrai sur le sommet de la colline, la verge de Dieu dans ma main.
10 Josue dide as Moises spak, and fauyt ayens Amalech. Forsothe Moises, and Aaron, and Hur stieden on the cop of the hil;
Josué fit ce que lui avait dit Moïse, pour combattre Amalek. Et Moïse, Aaron et Hur montèrent au sommet de la colline.
11 and whanne Moises reiside the hondis, Israel ouercam; forsothe if he let down a litil, Amalech ouercam.
Lorsque Moïse élevait sa main, Israël était le plus fort; et lorsqu’il baissait sa main, Amalek était le plus fort.
12 Sotheli `the hondis of Moises weren heuy, therfor thei token a stoon, and puttide vndir hym, in which stoon he sat. Forsothe Aaron and Hur susteyneden hise hondis, on euer eithir side; and it was don, that hise hondis weren not maad weri, til to the goyng down of the sunne.
Les mains de Moïse étant fatiguées, ils prirent une pierre qu’ils placèrent sous lui, et il s’assit dessus. Aaron et Hur soutenaient ses mains, l’un d’un côté, l’autre de l’autre; et ses mains restèrent fermes jusqu’au coucher du soleil.
13 And Josue droof a wey Amalech and his puple, in `the mouth of swerd, that is, bi the scharpnesse of the swerd.
Et Josué vainquit Amalek et son peuple, au tranchant de l’épée.
14 Forsothe the Lord seide to Moises, Wryte thou this in a book, for mynde, and take in the eeris of Josue; for Y schal do a wei the mynde of Amalech fro vndur heuene.
L’Éternel dit à Moïse: Écris cela dans le livre, pour que le souvenir s’en conserve, et déclare à Josué que j’effacerai la mémoire d’Amalek de dessous les cieux.
15 And Moises bildide an auter, and clepide the name therof The Lord myn enhaunsere,
Moïse bâtit un autel, et lui donna pour nom: l’Éternel ma bannière.
16 and seide, For the hond of the Lord aloone, and the bateil of God schal be ayens Amalech, fro generacioun in to generacioun.
Il dit: Parce que la main a été levée sur le trône de l’Éternel, il y aura guerre de l’Éternel contre Amalek, de génération en génération.
