Exodus 16
1 And thei yeden forth fro Helym, and al the multitude of the sones of Israel cam in to deseert of Syn, which is bitwixe Helym and Synai, in the fiftenethe dai of the secunde monethe aftir that thei yeden out of the lond of Egipt.
Et toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël étant partie d'Elim vint au désert de Sin, qui [est] entre Elim et Sinaï, le quinzième jour du second mois après qu'ils furent sortis du pays d'Egypte.
2 And al the congregacioun of the sones of Israel grutchide ayens Moises, and ayens Aaron, in the wildirnesse.
Et toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël murmura dans ce désert contre Moïse et Aaron.
3 And the sones of Israel seiden to hem, We wolden that we hadden be deed bi the `hoond of the Lord in the lond of Egipt, whanne we saten on the `pottis of fleisch, and eeten looues in plentee; whi leden ye vs in to this deseert, that ye schulden sle al the multitude with hungur?
Et les enfants d'Israël leur dirent: ha! que ne sommes-nous morts par la main de l'Eternel au pays d'Egypte, quand nous étions assis près des potées de chair, et que nous mangions notre soûl de pain; car vous nous avez amenés dans ce désert, pour faire mourir de faim toute cette assemblée.
4 Forsothe the Lord seide to Moises, Lo! Y schal reyne to you looues fro heuene; the puple go out, that it gadere tho thingis that sufficen bi ech day; that Y asaie the puple, whethir it goith in my lawe, ether nai.
Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: voici, je vais vous faire pleuvoir des cieux du pain, et le peuple sortira, et en recueillera chaque jour la provision d'un jour, afin que je l'éprouve, [pour voir] s'il observera ma Loi, ou non.
5 Sotheli in the sixte dai make thei redi that that thei schulen bere yn, and be it double ouer that thei weren wont to gadere bi ech dai.
Mais qu'ils apprêtent au sixième jour ce qu'ils auront apporté, et qu'il y ait le double de ce qu'ils recueilleront chaque jour.
6 And Moises and Aaron seiden to alle the sones of Israel, At euentid ye schulen wite that the Lord ledde you out of the lond of Egipt;
Moïse donc et Aaron dirent à tous les enfants d'Israël: ce soir vous saurez que l'Eternel vous a tirés du pays d'Egypte.
7 and in the morewetid ye schulen se the glorie of the Lord; for Y herde youre grutchyng ayens the Lord; sotheli what ben we, for ye grutchen ayens us?
Et au matin vous verrez la gloire de l'Eternel; parce qu'il a ouï vos murmures, qui sont contre l'Eternel; car que [sommes-nous], que vous murmuriez contre nous?
8 And Moises seide, The Lord schal yyue to you at euentid fleischis to ete, and looues in the morewetid in plentee, for he herde youre grutchyngis, bi which ye grutchiden ayens hym; for whi, what ben we? youre grutchyng is not ayens vs but ayens the Lord.
Moïse dit donc: ce sera quand l'Eternel vous aura donné ce soir de la chair à manger, et qu'au matin il vous aura rassasiés de pain, parce qu'il a ouï vos murmures, par lesquels vous avez murmuré contre lui; car que sommes-nous? Vos murmures ne sont pas contre nous, mais contre l'Eternel.
9 And Moises seide to Aaron, Seie thou to al the congregacioun of the sones of Israel, Neiye ye bifore the Lord, for he herde youre grutchyng.
Et Moïse dit à Aaron: dis à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël: approchez-vous de la présence de l'Eternel; car il a ouï vos murmures.
10 And whanne Aaron spak to al the cumpeny of the sones of Israel, thei bihelden to the wildirnesse, and lo! the glorie of the Lord apperide in a cloude.
Or il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Aaron eut parlé à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, ils regardèrent vers le désert, et voici, la gloire de l'Eternel se montra dans la nuée.
11 Forsothe the Lord spak to Moises,
Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse, en disant:
12 and seide, Y herde the grutchyngis of the sones of Israel; spek thou to hem, At euentid ye schulen ete fleischis, and in the morewtid ye schulen be fillid with looues, and ye schulen wite that Y am `youre Lord God.
J'ai ouï les murmures des enfants d'Israël. Parle-leur et leur dis: entre les deux vêpres vous mangerez de la chair, et au matin vous serez rassasiés de pain; et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu.
13 Therfor euentid was maad, and `curlewes stieden and hiliden the castels; and in the morewtid deew cam bi the face of the castels.
Sur le soir donc il monta des cailles, qui couvrirent le camp, et au matin il y eut une couche de rosée à l'entour du camp.
14 And whanne it hadde hilid the erthe, a litil thing, and as powned with a pestel, in the licnesse of an hoorfrost on erthe, apperide in the wildirnesse.
Et cette couche de rosée étant évanouie, voici sur la superficie du désert quelque chose de menu et de rond, comme du grésil sur la terre.
15 And whanne the sones of Israel hadden seyn that, thei seiden to gidere, Man hu? which signyfieth, what is this? for thei wisten not what it was. To whiche Moises seide, This is the breed, which the Lord hath youe to you to ete.
Ce que les enfants d'Israël ayant vu, ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: qu'est-ce? car ils ne savaient ce que c'[était]. Et Moïse leur dit: c'est le pain que l'Eternel vous a donné à manger.
16 This is the word which the Lord comaundide, Ech man gadere therof as myche as suffisith to be etun, gomor bi ech heed, bi the noumbre of youre soulis that dwellen in the tabernacle, so ye schulen take.
Or ce que l'Eternel a commandé, c'est que chacun en recueille autant qu'il lui en faut pour sa nourriture, un Homer par tête, selon le nombre de vos personnes; chacun en prendra pour ceux qui sont dans sa tente.
17 And the sones of Israel diden so, and thei gaderiden oon more, another lesse;
Les enfants d'Israël firent donc ainsi; et les uns en recueillirent plus, les autres moins.
18 and thei metiden at the mesure gomor; nethir he that gaderide more had more, nethir he that made redi lesse fond lesse, but alle gaderiden bi that that thei myyten ete.
Et ils le mesuraient par Homers; et celui qui en avait recueilli beaucoup n'en avait pas plus [qu'il ne lui en fallait]; ni celui qui en avait recueilli peu, n'en avait pas moins; mais chacun en recueillait selon ce qu'il en pouvait manger.
19 And Moises seide to hem, Noon leeue therof in to the morewtid; whiche herden not him,
Et Moïse leur avait dit: que personne n'en laisse rien de reste jusqu'au matin.
20 but summe of hem leften til to the morewtid, and it bigan to buyle with wormes, and it was rotun; and Moises was wrooth ayens hem.
Mais il y en eut qui n'obéirent point à Moïse; car quelques-uns en réservèrent jusqu'au matin; et il s'y engendra des vers, et elle puait; et Moïse se mit en grande colère contr’eux.
21 Forsothe alle gaderiden in the morewtid as myche as `miyte suffice to be eten; and whanne the sunne was hoot, it was moltun.
Ainsi chacun en recueillait tous les matins autant qu'il lui en fallait pour se nourrir, et lorsque la chaleur du soleil était venue, elle se fondait.
22 Sotheli in the sixte dai thei gaderiden double metis, that is, `twei gomor by ech man. Forsothe alle the princis of the multitude camen, and telden to Moises, which seide to hem,
Mais le sixième jour ils recueillirent du pain au double, deux Homers pour chacun; et les principaux de l'assemblée vinrent pour le rapporter à Moïse.
23 This it is that the Lord spak, The reste of the sabot is halewid to the Lord, do ye what euer thing schal be wrouyt to morewe, and sethe ye tho thingis that schulen be sodun; sotheli what euer thing is residue, kepe ye til in to the morewe.
Et il leur dit: c'est ce que l'Eternel a dit: Demain est le Repos, le Sabbat sanctifié à l'Eternel; faites cuire ce que vous avez à cuire, et faites bouillir ce que vous avez à bouillir, et serrez tout ce qui sera de surplus, pour le garder jusqu'au matin.
24 And thei diden so as Moises comaundide, and it was not rotun, nether a worm was foundun ther ynne.
Ils le serrèrent donc jusques au matin, comme Moïse l'avait commandé, et il ne pua point, ni il n'y eut point de vers dedans.
25 And Moises seide, Ete ye that in this dai, for it is the sabat of the Lord, it schal not be foundun to dai in the feeld; gadere ye in sixe daies,
Alors Moïse dit: mangez-le aujourd'hui; car c'est aujourd'hui le Repos de l'Eternel; aujourd'hui vous n'en trouverez point aux champs.
26 forsothe the sabat of the Lord is in the seuenthe dai, therfor it schal not be foundun.
Durant six jours vous le recueillerez; mais le septième est le Sabbat; il n'y en aura point en ce jour-là.
27 The seuenthe dai cam, and summe of the puple yeden out `to gadire, and thei founden not.
Et au septième jour quelques-uns du peuple sortirent pour en recueillir; mais ils n'[en] trouvèrent point.
28 Forsothe the Lord seide to Moises, Hou long `nylen ye kepe my comaundementis, and my lawe?
Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: jusques à quand refuserez-vous de garder mes commandements et mes lois?
29 Se ye that the Lord yaf to you the sabat, and for this he yaf to you in the sixte dai double meetis; ech man dwelle at him silf, noon go out of his place in the seuenthe dai.
Considérez que l'Eternel vous a ordonné le Sabbat, c'est pourquoi il vous donne au sixième jour du pain pour deux jours; que chacun demeure au lieu où il sera, et qu'aucun ne sorte du lieu où il sera le septième jour.
30 And the puple kepte sabat in the seuenthe dai.
Le peuple donc se reposa le septième jour.
31 And the hous of Israel clepide the name therof man, which was whijt as the seed of coriandre, and the taast therof was as of flour with hony.
Et la maison d'Israël nomma [ce pain] Manne; et elle était comme de la semence de coriandre, blanche, et ayant le goût des beignets au miel.
32 Forsothe Moises seide, This is the word which the Lord comaundide, Fille thou a gomor therof, and be it kept in to generaciouns to comynge aftirward, that thei knowe the breed bi which Y fedde you in the wildirnesse, whanne ye weren led out of the lond of Egipt.
Et Moïse dit: voici ce que l'Eternel a commandé: qu'on en remplisse un Homer, pour le garder dans vos âges, afin qu'on voie le pain que je vous ai fait manger au désert, après vous avoir retirés du pays d'Egypte.
33 And Moises seide to Aaron, Take thou o vessel, and putte therinne man, as myche as gomor mai take, and putte bifore the Lord, to be kept in to youre generaciouns,
Moïse donc dit à Aaron: prends une cruche, et mets-y un plein Homer de Manne, et le pose devant l'Eternel, pour être gardé dans vos âges.
34 as the Lord comaundide to Moises; and Aaron puttide that to be kept in the tabernacle.
Et Aaron le posa devant le Témoignage pour y être gardé, selon que le Seigneur l'avait commandé à Moïse.
35 Forsothe the sones of Israel eeten manna in fourti yeer, til thei camen in to the lond abitable; thei weren fed with this mete til thei touchiden the endis of the lond of Canaan.
Et les enfants d'Israël mangèrent la Manne durant quarante ans, jusqu'à ce qu'ils furent parvenus en un pays habité; ils mangèrent, [dis-je], la Manne, jusqu'à ce qu'ils furent parvenus aux frontières du pays de Chanaan.
36 Forsothe gomor is the tenthe part of efy.
Or un Homer est la dixième partie d'un Epha.
