Esther 4
1 And whanne Mardochee hadde herd these thingis, he to-rente hise clothis, and he was clothid in a sak, and spreynt aische on the heed, and he criede with greet vois in the street of the myddis of the citee, and schewide the bitternesse of his soule,
Als aber Mardachai alles erfahren hatte, was geschehen war, da zerriß Mardachai seine Kleider, that ein härenes Gewand an und Asche aufs Haupt, ging hinaus mitten in die Stadt und wehklagte laut und bitterlich.
2 and he yede with this yellyng `til to the yatis of the paleis; for it was not leueful a man clothid with a sak to entre in to the halle of the kyng.
So kam es bis vor das Thor des Königs; denn zum Thore des Königs darf man nicht in einem härenen Gewand hineingehen.
3 Also in alle prouynces, citees, and places, to which the cruel sentence of the king was comun, was greet weilyng, fastyng, yellyng, and wepyng anentis the Jewis, and many Jewis vsiden sak and aische for bed.
Und in jeder einzelnen Provinz, wo nur der Erlaß des Königs und sein Gesetz hingelangte, war große Trauer bei den Juden und Fasten und Weinen und Klagen: die meisten breiteten sich ein härenes Gewand und Asche unter.
4 Sotheli the dameselis and onest seruauntis and chast of Hester entriden, and telden to hir; which thing sche herde, and was astonyed; and sche sente a cloth to Mardochee, that whanne the sak was takun a wei, he schulde clothe hym therynne; which cloth he nolde take.
Als nun die Dienerinnen Esthers und ihre Kämmerer kamen und es ihr mitteilten, da wurde die Königin von tiefem heftigen Schmerz ergriffen. Und sie sandte Kleider, damit man sie Mardachai anziehe, und er das härene Gewand wieder ablege; aber er nahm sie nicht an.
5 And aftir that Athac, the onest seruaunt and chast, `was clepid, whom the kyng hadde youe a mynystre to hir, sche comaundide, that he schulde go to Mardochee, and lerne of hym, whi he dide this thing.
Da berief Esther den Hathach, einen von den Kämmerern des Königs, die er zu ihrem Dienst beordert hatte, und gab ihm den Auftrag an Mardachai, von diesem zu erkunden, was dies bedeute und warum es geschehe.
6 And Athac yede out, and yede to Mardochee stondynge in the street of the citee, bifor the dore of the paleis;
Da ging Hathach zu Mardachai hinaus auf den Stadtplatz, der vor dem Thore des Königs lag.
7 which schewide to Athac alle thingis that bifelden, hou Aaman hadde bihiyt to bryng siluer in to tresours of the kyng for the deeth of Jewis.
Mardachai aber teilte ihm alles mit, was ihm begegnet war, und den Betrag an Silber, den Haman für die Schatzkammer des Königs darzuwägen versprochen hatte, für die Juden, damit man sie umbringe.
8 Also he yaf to Athac the copie of the comaundement, that hangide in Susa, to schewe to the queen, and to moneste hir for to entre to the kyng, and to biseche hym for hir puple.
Dazu gab er ihm auch den Wortlaut der Gesetzesvorschrift, die man zu Susa behufs ihrer Vernichtung erlassen hatte, damit er ihn Esther zeige und ihr Mitteilung mache und sie beauftrage, zum Könige hineinzugehen, um ihn um Gnade anzuflehen und für ihr Volk bei ihm Fürbitte zu thun.
9 And Athac yede ayen, and telde to Hester alle thingis, whiche Mardochee hadde seid.
Und Hathach kam und teilte Esther die Worte Mardachais mit.
10 And sche answeryde to hym, and seide, that he schulde seie to Mardochee, Alle the seruauntis of the kyng,
Esther jedoch gab Hathach nochmals mündlichen Auftrag an Mardachai:
11 and alle prouyncis that ben vndur his lordschip, knowen, that whether a man ether a womman not clepid entrith in to the ynnere halle of the kyng, he schal be slayn anoon with outen ony tariyng, no but in hap the kyng holdith forth the goldun yerde `to hym for `the signe of merci, and he mai lyue so; therfor hou mai Y entre to the kyng, which am not clepid to hym now bi thritti daies?
Alle Diener des Königs und die Leute in den Provinzen des Königs wissen, daß für jedermann, es sei Mann oder Weib, der sich zum König in den inneren Vorhof hineinbegiebt, ohne gerufen zu sein, ein und dasselbe Gesetz gilt, nämlich, daß man ihn tötet, mit einziger Ausnahme dessen, dem der König sein goldenes Scepter entgegenstreckt, damit er am Leben bleibe. ich aber bin seit nunmehr dreißig Tagen nicht mehr berufen worden, zum Könige zu kommen.
12 And whanne Mardochee hadde herd `this thing, he sente efte to Hester,
Als nun Mardachai die Worte Esthers mitgeteilt worden waren,
13 and seide, Gesse thou not, that thou schalt delyuer oonli thi lijf, for thou art in the hows of the kyng, bifor alle Jewis;
da ließ Mardachai der Esther wieder sagen: Wähne nicht, daß du allein von allen Juden entrinnen werdest, weil du im Palaste des Königs bist.
14 for if thou art stille now, Jewis schulen be delyuered bi another occasioun, and thou and the hows of thi fadir schulen perische; and who knowith, whether herfor thou camist to the rewme, that thou schuldist be maad redi in sich a tyme?
denn wenn du wirklich zu dieser Zeit stille schweigen solltest, so wird den Juden Befreiung und Rettung von einer anderen Seite her erstehen; du aber wirst samt deiner Familie umkommen. vielleicht bist du nur um der gegenwärtigen Zeit willen zum Königtume gelangt!
15 And eft Hester sente these wordis to Mardochee,
Da ließ Esther dem Mardachai wieder sagen:
16 Go thou, and gadere togidere alle Jewis, whiche thou fyndist in Susa, and preie ye for me; ete ye not, nether drynke ye in thre daies and thre nyytis, and Y with myn handmaydis schal fast in lijk maner; and thanne Y not clepid schal entre to the kyng, and Y schal do ayens the lawe, and Y schal bitake me to deth and to perel.
Gehe hin, versammle alle Juden, die sich zu Susa finden, und fastet für mich: und zwar sollt ihr drei Tage lang, bei Nacht und bei Tage, weder essen noch trinken; auch ich will mit meinen Dienerinnen ebenso fasten. Und darnach will ich zum Könige hineingehen, obwohl dies dem Gesetze zuwiderläuft; und wenn ich umkommen soll, nun so komme ich um!
17 Therfor Mardochee yede, and dide alle thingis, whiche Hester hadde comaundid to hym.
Und Mardachai ging fort und that ganz so, wie ihm Esther aufgetragen hatte.
