2 And leiyyng Y arrettide errour, and Y seide to ioye, What art thou disseyued in veyn?
to/for laughter to say to boast: rave madly and to/for joy what? this to make: do
3 I thouyte in myn herte to withdrawe my fleisch fro wyn, that Y schulde lede ouer my soule to wisdom, and that Y schulde eschewe foli, til Y schulde se, what were profitable to the sones of men; in which dede the noumbre of daies of her lijf vndur the sunne is nedeful.
to spy in/on/with heart my to/for to draw in/on/with wine [obj] flesh my and heart my to lead in/on/with wisdom and to/for to grasp in/on/with folly till which to see: see where? this pleasant to/for son: child [the] man which to make: do underneath: under [the] heaven number day life their
4 Y magnefiede my werkis, Y bildide housis to me, and Y plauntide vynes; Y made yerdis and orcherdis,
to magnify deed: work my to build to/for me house: home to plant to/for me vineyard
5 and Y settide tho with the trees of al kynde;
to make to/for me garden and park and to plant in/on/with them tree all fruit
6 and Y made cisternes of watris, for to watre the wode of trees growynge.
to make to/for me pool water to/for to water: watering from them wood to spring tree
7 I hadde in possessioun seruauntis and handmaidis; and Y hadde myche meynee, and droues of grete beestis, and grete flockis of scheep, ouer alle men that weren bifore me in Jerusalem.
to buy servant/slave and maidservant and son: child house: home to be to/for me also livestock cattle and flock to multiply to be to/for me from all which/that to be to/for face: before my in/on/with Jerusalem
8 Y gaderide togidere to me siluer and gold, and the castels of kingis and of prouyncis; Y made to me syngeris and syngeressis, and delicis of the sones of men, and cuppis and vessels in seruyce, to helde out wynes;
to gather to/for me also silver: money and gold and possession king and [the] province to make: offer to/for me to sing and to sing and luxury son: child [the] man concubine and concubine
9 and Y passide in richessis alle men, that weren bifor me in Jerusalem. Also wisdom dwellide stabli with me,
and to magnify and to add from all which/that to be to/for face: before my in/on/with Jerusalem also wisdom my to stand: stand to/for me
10 and alle thingis whiche myn iyen desiriden, Y denyede not to hem; nether Y refreynede myn herte, that ne it vside al lust, and delitide it silf in these thingis whiche I hadde maad redi; and Y demyde this my part, if Y vside my trauel.
and all which to ask eye my not to reserve from them not to withhold [obj] heart my from all joy for heart my glad from all trouble my and this to be portion my from all trouble my
11 And whanne Y hadde turned me to alle werkis whiche myn hondys hadden maad, and to the trauels in whiche Y hadde swet in veyn, Y siy in alle thingis vanyte and turment of the soule, and that no thing vndir sunne dwellith stabli.
and to turn I in/on/with all deed: work my which/that to make: do hand my and in/on/with trouble which/that to toil to/for to make: do and behold [the] all vanity and longing spirit: breath and nothing advantage underneath: under [the] sun
12 I passide to biholde wisdom, errours, and foli; Y seide, What is a man, that he may sue the king, his maker?
and to turn I to/for to see: examine wisdom and madness and folly for what? [the] man which/that to come (in): come after [the] king [obj] which already to make: do him
13 And Y siy, that wisdom yede so mych bifor foli, as miche as liyt is dyuerse fro derknessis.
and to see: see I which/that there advantage to/for wisdom from [the] folly like/as advantage [the] light from [the] darkness
14 The iyen of a wijs man ben in his heed, a fool goith in derknessis; and Y lernede, that o perisching was of euer either.
[the] wise eye his in/on/with head his and [the] fool in/on/with darkness to go: walk and to know also I which/that accident one to meet [obj] all their
15 And Y seide in myn herte, If o deth schal be bothe of the fool and of me, what profitith it to me, that Y yaf more bisynesse to wisdom? And Y spak with my soule, and perseyuede, that this also was vanyte.
and to say I in/on/with heart my like/as accident [the] fool also I to meet me and to/for what? be wise I then advantage and to speak: speak in/on/with heart my which/that also this vanity
16 For mynde of a wijs man schal not be, in lijk maner as nether of a fool with outen ende, and tymes to comynge schulen hile alle thingis togidere with foryetyng; a lerned man dieth in lijk maner and an vnlerned man.
for nothing memorial to/for wise with [the] fool to/for forever: enduring in/on/with which/that already [the] day [the] to come (in): come [the] all to forget and how? to die [the] wise with [the] fool
17 And therfor it anoiede me of my lijf, seynge that alle thingis vndur sunne ben yuele, and that alle thingis ben vanyte and turment of the spirit.
and to hate [obj] [the] life for bad: harmful upon me [the] deed: work which/that to make: do underneath: under [the] sun for [the] all vanity and longing spirit: breath
18 Eft Y curside al my bisynesse, bi which Y trauelide moost studiousli vndur sunne, and Y schal haue an eir after me,
and to hate I [obj] all trouble my which/that I laborious underneath: under [the] sun which/that to rest him to/for man which/that to be after me
19 whom Y knowe not, whether he schal be wijs ether a fool; and he schal be lord in my trauels, for whiche Y swatte greetli, and was bisi; and is ony thing so veyn?
and who? to know wise to be or fool and to domineer in/on/with all trouble my which/that to toil and which/that be wise underneath: under [the] sun also this vanity
20 Wherfor Y ceesside, and myn herte forsook for to trauele ferthere vnder sunne.
and to turn: turn I to/for to despair [obj] heart my upon all [the] trouble which/that to toil underneath: under [the] sun
21 For whi whanne another man trauelith in wisdom, and techyng, and bisynesse, he leeueth thingis getun to an idel man; and therfor this is vanyte, and greet yuel.
for there man which/that trouble his in/on/with wisdom and in/on/with knowledge and in/on/with skill and to/for man which/that not to toil in/on/with him to give: put him portion his also this vanity and distress: evil many
22 For whi what schal it profite to a man of al his trauel, and turment of spirit, bi which he was turmentid vndur sunne?
for what? to be to/for man in/on/with all trouble his and in/on/with striving heart his which/that he/she/it laborious underneath: under [the] sun
23 Alle hise daies ben ful of sorewis and meschefs, and bi nyyt he restith not in soule; and whether this is not vanyte?
for all day his pain and vexation task his also in/on/with night not to lie down: sleep heart his also this vanity he/she/it
24 Whether it is not betere to ete and drynke, and to schewe to hise soule goodis of hise trauels? and this thing is of the hond of God.
nothing pleasant in/on/with man which/that to eat and to drink and to see: enjoy [obj] soul: myself his good in/on/with trouble his also this to see: see I for from hand: power [the] God he/she/it
25 Who schal deuoure so, and schal flowe in delicis, as Y dide?
for who? to eat and who? to enjoy outside from me
26 God yaf wisdom, and kunnyng, and gladnesse to a good man in his siyt; but he yaf turment, and superflu bisynesse to a synnere, that he encreesse, and gadere togidere, and yyue to hym that plesith God; but also this is vanyte, and veyn bisynesse of soule.
for to/for man which/that pleasant to/for face: before his to give: give wisdom and knowledge and joy and to/for to sin to give: give task to/for to gather and to/for to gather to/for to give: give to/for pleasant to/for face: before [the] God also this vanity and longing spirit: breath
