Deuteronomy 9
1 Here thou, Israel; thou schalt passe Jordan to dai, that thou welde mooste naciouns, and strengere than thou; grete citees, and wallid `til to heuene;
Ascultă, Israele: Astăzi treci Iordanul, ca să intri să stăpâneşti naţiuni mai mari şi mai tari decât tine, cetăţi mari şi întărite până la cer,
2 a greet puple, and hiy; the sones of Enachym, whiche thi silf `siest, and herdist, whiche no man may ayenstonde in the contrarie part.
Un popor mare şi înalt, copiii anachimilor, pe care îi cunoşti şi despre care ai auzit spunându-se: Cine poate sta înaintea fiilor lui Anac?
3 Therfor thou schalt wite to dai, that thi Lord God hym silf schal passe bifor thee; he is a fier deuourynge and wastynge, that schal al to breke hem, and schal do awei, and destrie bifor thi face swiftli, as he spak to thee.
Înţelege de aceea astăzi, că DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău este cel care trece înaintea ta; ca un foc mistuitor îi va nimici el şi îi va supune înaintea ta; astfel îi vei alunga şi îi vei nimici repede, precum ţi-a spus DOMNUL.
4 Seie thou not in thin herte, whanne thi Lord God hath do hem awey in thi siyt, For my riytfulnesse the Lord brouyte me yn, that Y schulde welde this lond; sithen these naciouns ben doon awey for her wickidnessis.
Să nu vorbeşti în inima ta, după ce DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău îi va fi alungat dinaintea ta, spunând: Pentru dreptatea mea m-a adus DOMNUL să stăpânesc această ţară, căci pentru stricăciunea acestor naţiuni le alungă DOMNUL dinaintea ta.
5 For not for thi riytfulnessis, and equyte of thin herte thou schalt entre that thou welde the lond `of hem; but for thei diden wickidli, thei weren doon awey, whanne thou entridist, and that the Lord schulde fille his word which he bihiyte vndur an ooth to thi fadris, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Nu pentru dreptatea ta sau pentru integritatea inimii tale intri tu să stăpâneşti ţara lor, ci pentru stricăciunea acestor naţiuni le alungă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău dinaintea ta şi pentru a împlini cuvântul, pe care l-a jurat DOMNUL către părinţii tăi: Avraam, Isaac şi Iacob.
6 Therfor wite thou that not for thi riytfulnesses thi Lord God yaf to thee this beste lond in to possessioun, sithen thou art a puple of hardeste nol.
Să înţelegi de aceea, că nu pentru dreptatea ta îţi dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău această ţară bună ca să o stăpâneşti, pentru că tu eşti un popor îndărătnic.
7 Haue thou mynde, and foryete not, hou in the wildirnesse thou terridist thi Lord God to greet wraththe; fro that dai in which thou yedist out of Egipt `til to this place, thou striuedist euere ayens the Lord.
Aminteşte-ţi şi nu uita cum l-ai provocat la furie pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău în pustiu, din ziua în care ai ieşit din ţara Egiptului, până aţi venit la locul acesta, aţi fost răzvrătiţi împotriva DOMNULUI.
8 For whi also in Oreb thou terridist hym, and he was wrooth, and wolde do thee awei, whanne Y stiede in to the hil,
De asemenea la Horeb aţi provocat la furie pe DOMNUL, astfel încât DOMNUL s-a mâniat pe voi ca să vă nimicească.
9 that Y schulde take two tablis of stoon, the tablis of couenaunt which the Lord made with you, and Y continuede in the hil fourti daies and nyytis, and Y eet not breed, and Y drank not watir.
Când m-am urcat pe munte să primesc tablele de piatră, tablele legământului pe care l-a făcut DOMNUL cu voi, atunci am rămas pe munte patruzeci de zile şi patruzeci de nopţi, nu am mâncat pâine nici nu am băut apă;
10 And the Lord yaf to me, twey tablis of stoon, euer either wrytun with Goddis fyngur, and conteynynge alle the wordis whiche he spak to you in the hil, fro the myddis of the fier, whanne the cumpany of puple was gaderid togidere.
Şi DOMNUL mi-a dat două table de piatră, scrise cu degetul lui Dumnezeu; şi pe ele era scris conform cu toate cuvintele, pe care vi le-a vorbit DOMNUL pe munte, din mijlocul focului, în ziua adunării.
11 And whanne fourti daies and so many nyytis hadden passid, the Lord yaf to me twei tablis of stoon, tablis of boond of pees;
Şi s-a întâmplat la sfârşitul celor patruzeci de zile şi patruzeci de nopţi, că DOMNUL mi-a dat cele două table de piatră, adică tablele legământului.
12 and he seide to me, Rise thou, and go doun for hennys soone, for thi puple, which thou leddist out of Egipt, han forsake swiftli the weie which thou schewidist to hem, and thei han maad to hem a yotun calf.
Şi DOMNUL mi-a spus: Ridică-te, coboară-te repede de aici, pentru că poporul tău, pe care l-ai scos din Egipt, s-a stricat; repede s-au abătut de la calea, pe care le-am poruncit-o, şi-au făcut un chip turnat.
13 And eft the Lord seide to me, `Y se that this puple is of hard nol;
Mai mult, DOMNUL mi-a vorbit, spunând: Am văzut poporul acesta şi, iată, este un popor îndărătnic,
14 suffre thou me, that I alto breke hym, and do awey the name `of hym fro vndur heuene; and Y schal ordeyne thee on a folk which is grettere and strongere than this folk.
Lasă-mă să îi nimicesc şi să le şterg numele de sub cer şi voi face din tine o naţiune mai puternică şi mai mare decât ei.
15 And whanne Y cam doun fro the hil brennynge, and helde with euer either hond twei tablis of boond of pees, and Y seiy,
Astfel m-am întors şi am coborât de pe munte şi muntele ardea cu foc; şi cele două table ale legământului erau în amândouă mâinile mele.
16 that ye hadde synned to youre Lord God, and hadden maad to you a yotun calf, and hadden forsake swiftli the weie of God which he schewide to you,
Şi am privit şi, iată, aţi păcătuit împotriva DOMNULUI Dumnezeul vostru, v-aţi făcut un viţel turnat; repede v-aţi abătut de la calea pe care v-a poruncit-o DOMNUL.
17 Y castide doun the tablis fro myn hondis, and brak tho tablis in youre siyt.
Şi am luat cele două table şi le-am aruncat din amândouă mâinile mele şi le-am spart înaintea ochilor voştri.
18 And Y felde doun bifor the Lord as `biforto, in fourti daies and fourti nyytis, and Y eet not breed, `and drank not watir, for alle youre synnes whiche ye diden ayens the Lord, and terriden hym to `greet wraththe;
Şi m-am prosternat înaintea DOMNULUI, ca întâia dată, patruzeci de zile şi patruzeci de nopţi, nici nu am mâncat pâine, nici nu am băut apă, din cauza tuturor păcatelor voastre pe care le-aţi păcătuit, făcând ce este stricat înaintea ochilor DOMNULUI, ca să îl provocaţi la mânie.
19 for Y dredde the indignacioun and yre of hym, by which he was stirid ayens you, and wolde do you awey. And the Lord herde me also in this tyme.
Pentru că m-am temut de mânia şi de nemulțumirea încinsă cu care s-a înfuriat DOMNUL împotriva voastră să vă nimicească. Dar DOMNUL mi-a dat ascultare şi în timpul acela.
20 Also the Lord was wrooth greteli ayens Aaron, and wolde alto breke hym, and Y preiede in lijk maner for hym.
Şi DOMNUL s-a mâniat pe Aaron, ca să îl nimicească, dar m-am rugat şi pentru Aaron în acelaşi timp.
21 `Forsothe Y took youre synne which ye maden, that is, the calf, and brente it in fier, and Y alto brak in gobetis, and droof outerli in to dust, and castide forth in to the stronde, that cam doun fro the hil.
Şi am luat păcatul vostru, viţelul pe care l-aţi făcut, şi l-am ars în foc şi l-am zdrobit foarte mărunt, până a fost mărunt ca praful; şi i-am aruncat praful în pârâul care cobora din munte.
22 Also in the brennyng, and in the temptacioun at the watris of ayenseiyng, and in the Sepulcris of Coueytise, ye terriden the Lord;
Şi la Tabera şi la Masa şi la Chibrot-Hataava, aţi provocat la furie pe DOMNUL.
23 and whanne Y sente you fro Cades Barne, and seide, `Stye ye, and welde the lond which Y yaf to you, and ye dispisiden the comaundement of youre Lord God, and ye bileueden not to him, nether ye wolden here his vois;
De asemenea când v-a trimis DOMNUL de la Cades-Barnea, spunând: Urcaţi-vă şi stăpâniţi ţara pe care v-am dat-o, atunci v-aţi răzvrătit împotriva poruncii DOMNULUI Dumnezeul vostru şi nu l-aţi crezut şi nu aţi dat ascultare vocii lui.
24 but euere ye weren rebel, fro the day in which Y bigan to knowe you.
Aţi fost răzvrătiţi împotriva DOMNULUI din ziua în care v-am cunoscut.
25 And Y lay byfore the Lord fourti daies and fourti nyytis, in whiche Y bisouyte hym mekeli, that he schulde not `do awey you, as he manaasside.
Astfel m-am prosternat înaintea DOMNULUI patruzeci de zile şi patruzeci de nopţi, cum m-am prosternat prima dată, pentru că DOMNUL a spus că voieşte să vă nimicească.
26 And Y preiede, and seide, Lord God, distrye not thi puple, and thin eritage, which thou `ayen bouytist in thi greetnesse, which thou leddist out of Egipt in strong hond.
M-am rugat de aceea DOMNULUI şi am spus: Doamne Dumnezeule, nu nimici poporul tău şi moştenirea ta, pe care ai răscumpărat-o prin măreţia ta, pe care l-ai scos din Egipt cu mână tare.
27 Haue thou mynde of thi seruauntis, of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; biholde thou not the hardnesse of this puple, and the wickidnesse, and the synne therof,
Aminteşte-ţi de servitorii tăi, Avraam, Isaac şi Iacob; nu privi la încăpăţânarea acestui popor, nici la stricăciunea lui, nici la păcatul lui;
28 lest perauenture the dwelleris of the lond, out of which thou leddist vs, seien, The Lord myyte not bryng hem in to the lond which he bihiyte to hem, and he hatide hem; therfor he ledde hem out that he schulde sle hem in wildirnesse;
Ca nu cumva ţara din care ne-ai scos să spună: Pentru că DOMNUL nu a fost în stare să îi ducă în ţara pe care le-a promis-o şi pentru că i-a urât, i-a scos ca să îi ucidă în pustiu.
29 and thei ben thi puple and thin eritage, which thou leddist out in thi greet strengthe, and in thin arm holdun forth.
Totuşi ei sunt poporul tău şi moştenirea ta, pe care ai scos-o prin puterea ta cea mare şi prin braţul tău cel întins.
