Deuteronomy 9
1 Here thou, Israel; thou schalt passe Jordan to dai, that thou welde mooste naciouns, and strengere than thou; grete citees, and wallid `til to heuene;
"Höre, Israel! Du ziehst jetzt über den Jordan, Herr zu werden über Völker, größer und stärker als du, über Städte, groß und himmelhoch umwehrt,
2 a greet puple, and hiy; the sones of Enachym, whiche thi silf `siest, and herdist, whiche no man may ayenstonde in the contrarie part.
über ein Volk, groß und hochgewachsen, die Enakiter, die du selbst kennst und von denen du selbst sagen hörtest: 'Wer hält den Enakitern stand?'
3 Therfor thou schalt wite to dai, that thi Lord God hym silf schal passe bifor thee; he is a fier deuourynge and wastynge, that schal al to breke hem, and schal do awei, and destrie bifor thi face swiftli, as he spak to thee.
So wisse zum voraus: Der Herr, dein Gott, zieht dir voran als ein verzehrendes Feuer. Er vertilgt sie und wirft sie vor dich hin. Du wirst sie leicht vertreiben und vernichten, wie dir der Herr verhieß.
4 Seie thou not in thin herte, whanne thi Lord God hath do hem awey in thi siyt, For my riytfulnesse the Lord brouyte me yn, that Y schulde welde this lond; sithen these naciouns ben doon awey for her wickidnessis.
Denke nicht, wenn sie der Herr, dein Gott, vor dir verjagt: 'Um meines Verdienstes willen hat mich der Herr in den Besitz dieses Landes gebracht!' Der Herr vertreibt vor dir diese Völker doch nur um ihres Frevels willen.
5 For not for thi riytfulnessis, and equyte of thin herte thou schalt entre that thou welde the lond `of hem; but for thei diden wickidli, thei weren doon awey, whanne thou entridist, and that the Lord schulde fille his word which he bihiyte vndur an ooth to thi fadris, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Nicht wegen des Verdienstes und deines lauteren Herzens kommst du in den Besitz dieses Landes, sondern der Herr, dein Gott, vertreibt vor dir diese Völker wegen ihrer Frevelhaftigkeit und zur Erfüllung des Schwures, den der Herr deinen Vätern, Abraham, Isaak und Jakob, geleistet hat.
6 Therfor wite thou that not for thi riytfulnesses thi Lord God yaf to thee this beste lond in to possessioun, sithen thou art a puple of hardeste nol.
Bleib dir bewußt, daß dir der Herr, dein Gott, dieses schöne Land nicht wegen deines Verdienstes zu eigen gibt! Denn du bist ein halsstarrig Volk.
7 Haue thou mynde, and foryete not, hou in the wildirnesse thou terridist thi Lord God to greet wraththe; fro that dai in which thou yedist out of Egipt `til to this place, thou striuedist euere ayens the Lord.
Denk daran! Vergiß nicht, wie du den Herrn, deinen Gott, in der Wüste erzürnt hast! Vom Tag an, an dem du aus Ägypterland gezogen, bis zu eurer Ankunft an diesem Ort seid ihr widerspenstig gegen den Herrn gewesen.
8 For whi also in Oreb thou terridist hym, and he was wrooth, and wolde do thee awei, whanne Y stiede in to the hil,
Besonders am Horeb habt ihr den Herrn erzürnt, und der Herr ergrimmte über euch und wollte euch vertilgen.
9 that Y schulde take two tablis of stoon, the tablis of couenaunt which the Lord made with you, and Y continuede in the hil fourti daies and nyytis, and Y eet not breed, and Y drank not watir.
Ich stieg auf den Berg, die Steintafeln zu empfangen, die Tafeln des Bundes, den der Herr mit euch geschlossen, und ich blieb vierzig Tage und Nächte auf dem Berg. Brot habe ich nicht gegessen und Wasser nicht getrunken.
10 And the Lord yaf to me, twey tablis of stoon, euer either wrytun with Goddis fyngur, and conteynynge alle the wordis whiche he spak to you in the hil, fro the myddis of the fier, whanne the cumpany of puple was gaderid togidere.
Der Herr gab mir die beiden Steintafeln, vom Finger Gottes beschrieben. Darauf waren genau die Worte, die der Herr am Versammlungstag auf dem Berg aus dem Feuer zu euch redete.
11 And whanne fourti daies and so many nyytis hadden passid, the Lord yaf to me twei tablis of stoon, tablis of boond of pees;
Nach vierzig Tagen und Nächten hat mir der Herr die beiden Steintafeln gegeben, die Tafeln des Bundes.
12 and he seide to me, Rise thou, and go doun for hennys soone, for thi puple, which thou leddist out of Egipt, han forsake swiftli the weie which thou schewidist to hem, and thei han maad to hem a yotun calf.
Da sprach der Herr zu mir: 'Auf! Rasch von hier hinab! Schlimm handelt dein Volk, das du aus Ägypten führtest. Sie sind schnell vom Weg gewichen, den ich ihnen gebot. Sie haben sich ein Gußbild gemacht.'
13 And eft the Lord seide to me, `Y se that this puple is of hard nol;
Und der Herr sprach zu mir: 'Ich habe dies Volk beobachtet; es ist ein hartnäckig Volk.
14 suffre thou me, that I alto breke hym, and do awey the name `of hym fro vndur heuene; and Y schal ordeyne thee on a folk which is grettere and strongere than this folk.
Laß mich in Ruhe, daß ich sie vertilge und ihren Namen unter dem Himmel lösche! Dich will ich zum Ahnherrn eines Volkes machen, stärker und größer als dieses.'
15 And whanne Y cam doun fro the hil brennynge, and helde with euer either hond twei tablis of boond of pees, and Y seiy,
Ich wandte mich und stieg vom Berge, und der Berg brannte noch im Feuer. Die beiden Gesetzestafeln hielt ich in meinen Händen.
16 that ye hadde synned to youre Lord God, and hadden maad to you a yotun calf, and hadden forsake swiftli the weie of God which he schewide to you,
Da sah ich hin. Wahrhaftig! Ihr hattet euch an dem Herrn, eurem Gott, versündigt. Ihr hattet euch ein gegossenes Kalb gemacht. So seid ihr schnell von dem Wege gewichen, den der Herr euch vorgeschrieben hatte.
17 Y castide doun the tablis fro myn hondis, and brak tho tablis in youre siyt.
Da faßte ich die beiden Tafeln, warf sie weg und zerschlug sie vor euren Augen.
18 And Y felde doun bifor the Lord as `biforto, in fourti daies and fourti nyytis, and Y eet not breed, `and drank not watir, for alle youre synnes whiche ye diden ayens the Lord, and terriden hym to `greet wraththe;
Dann warf ich mich nieder vor dem Herrn, wie das erstemal, vierzig Tage und Nächte. Ich habe kein Brot gegessen und kein Wasser getrunken wegen all eurer Sünde, die ihr getan, indem ihr etwas dem Herrn Mißfälliges tatet, daß es ihn kränken mußte.
19 for Y dredde the indignacioun and yre of hym, by which he was stirid ayens you, and wolde do you awey. And the Lord herde me also in this tyme.
Denn mir ist bange geworden vor dem Zorn und Grimm, womit der Herr über euch gezürnt, so daß er daran war, euch zu vertilgen. Und der Herr erhörte mich auch diesmal.
20 Also the Lord was wrooth greteli ayens Aaron, and wolde alto breke hym, and Y preiede in lijk maner for hym.
Auch über Aaron hatte der Herr so sehr gezürnt, daß er ihn vertilgen wollte. Ich flehte damals auch für Aaron.
21 `Forsothe Y took youre synne which ye maden, that is, the calf, and brente it in fier, and Y alto brak in gobetis, and droof outerli in to dust, and castide forth in to the stronde, that cam doun fro the hil.
Euer Sündenwerk aber, das ihr gemacht, das Kalb, habe ich genommen; dann verbrannte ich es, zerstieß und zerrieb es zu feinem Staub, und diesen Staub warf ich in den Bach, der vom Berg herabfließt.
22 Also in the brennyng, and in the temptacioun at the watris of ayenseiyng, and in the Sepulcris of Coueytise, ye terriden the Lord;
Auch zu Tabera, Massa und an den Gelüstegräbern habt ihr den Herrn erzürnt.
23 and whanne Y sente you fro Cades Barne, and seide, `Stye ye, and welde the lond which Y yaf to you, and ye dispisiden the comaundement of youre Lord God, and ye bileueden not to him, nether ye wolden here his vois;
Auch als euch der Herr von Kades Barnea aussandte und sprach: 'Zieht hinauf und erobert das Land, das ich euch gebe!', waret ihr widerspenstig gegen des Herrn, eures Gottes, Befehl; ihr habt ihm nicht getraut und nicht auf seine Stimme gehört.
24 but euere ye weren rebel, fro the day in which Y bigan to knowe you.
Widerspenstig seid ihr gegen den Herrn gewesen, seitdem ich euch kenne.
25 And Y lay byfore the Lord fourti daies and fourti nyytis, in whiche Y bisouyte hym mekeli, that he schulde not `do awey you, as he manaasside.
Ich lag vor dem Herrn die vierzig Tage und Nächte, als ich bestürzt war, weil der Herr euch vernichten wollte.
26 And Y preiede, and seide, Lord God, distrye not thi puple, and thin eritage, which thou `ayen bouytist in thi greetnesse, which thou leddist out of Egipt in strong hond.
Ich betete zum Herrn: 'Herr! Herr! Vertilge nicht dein ureigen Volk, das du erlöst durch deine große Macht und mit starkem Arm aus Ägypten geführt hast!
27 Haue thou mynde of thi seruauntis, of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; biholde thou not the hardnesse of this puple, and the wickidnesse, and the synne therof,
Gedenke deiner Knechte Abraham, Isaak und Jakob! Kehre dich nicht an des Volkes Halsstarrigkeit, an seine Bosheit und Sünde!
28 lest perauenture the dwelleris of the lond, out of which thou leddist vs, seien, The Lord myyte not bryng hem in to the lond which he bihiyte to hem, and he hatide hem; therfor he ledde hem out that he schulde sle hem in wildirnesse;
Damit man nicht in dem Land, aus dem du uns geführt, sage: "Aus Unvermögen des Herrn, sie in das zugesagte Land zu bringen, und aus Abneigung gegen sie führte er sie hinweg, sie in der Wüste sterben zu lassen!"
29 and thei ben thi puple and thin eritage, which thou leddist out in thi greet strengthe, and in thin arm holdun forth.
Und doch sind sie dein ureigen Volk, das du mit deiner großen Kraft und deinem gereckten Arm hast herausgeführt.'"
