Deuteronomy 7
1 Whanne thi Lord God hath lad thee in to the lond, in to which thou schalt entre to welde, and hath do awey many folkis bifor thee, Ethei, and Gergesei, and Ammorrey, Canenei, and Pherezei, Euey, and Jebusei; seuene folkis, of myche gretter noumbre than thou art, and strengere than thou;
“Khi Chúa Hằng Hữu dẫn anh em vào đất hứa, Ngài sẽ đuổi các dân tộc sau đây: Hê-tít, Ghi-rê-ga, A-mô-rít, Ca-na-an, Phê-rết, Hê-vi, và Giê-bu.
2 and thi Lord God hath bitake hem to thee, thou schalt smyte hem `til to deeth, thou schalt not make `with hem a boond of pees, nether thou schalt haue merci on hem,
Họ là dân của những nước lớn mạnh hơn chúng ta, nhưng Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, sẽ cho Ít-ra-ên đánh bại các dân ấy. Anh em phải tận diệt họ không thương xót, không ký hòa ước gì cả.
3 nether thou schalt felowschipe mariagis with him; thou schalt not yyue thi douyter to the sone `of hym, nether thou schalt take his douytir to thi sone;
Cũng không được kết sui gia với họ, đừng gả con gái mình cho con trai họ, hoặc cưới con gái họ cho con trai mình,
4 for sche schal disceyue thi sone, that he sue not me, and that he serue more alien goddis; and the strong veniaunce of the Lord schal be wrooth, and schal do awei thee soone.
vì họ sẽ dụ con cái anh em thờ các thần của họ mà bỏ Chúa Hằng Hữu. Và nếu thế, Ngài sẽ nổi giận, tiêu diệt anh em tức khắc.
5 But rather thou schalt do these thingis to hem; destrie ye the auteris `of hem, and breke ye ymagis `of metal, and kitte ye doun wodis, and brenne ye grauun ymagis.
Anh em phải đập phá bàn thờ, nghiền nát trụ thờ, triệt hạ các tượng của A-sê-ra, cắt trụi những lùm cây, đốt sạch các tượng chạm của họ.
6 For thou art an hooli puple to thi Lord God; thi Lord God chees thee, that thou be a special puple to hym, of alle puplis that ben on erthe.
Vì anh em là một dân thánh của Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em; Ngài đã chọn anh em trong tất cả các dân tộc trên hoàn cầu làm dân tộc đặc biệt của Ngài.
7 Not for ye ouercamen in noumbre alle folkis, the Lord is ioyned to you, and chees yow, sithen ye ben fewere than alle puplis;
Không phải Chúa Hằng Hữu chọn lựa và thương yêu anh em vì dân số đông. Không, so với những dân tộc khác, dân số anh em ít nhất.
8 but for the Lord louede you, and kepte the ooth which he swoor to youre fadris; and he ledde you out in strong hond, and ayen bouyte you fro the hows of seruage, fro `the hows of Farao, kyng of Egipt.
Nhưng chỉ vì Chúa Hằng Hữu thương yêu anh em, và Ngài muốn giữ lời hứa với tổ tiên chúng ta. Đó là lý do Ngài đã giải thoát Ít-ra-ên khỏi ách nô lệ của Pha-ra-ôn, vua Ai Cập.
9 And thou schalt wite, that thi Lord God hym silf is a strong God, and feithful, and kepith couenaunt and mersi to hem that louen hym, and to hem that kepen hise comaundementis, in to a thousynde generaciouns;
Vậy, phải ý thức rằng Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời duy nhất, Đức Chúa Trời thành tín. Ngài tôn trọng giao ước, và thương xót cả nghìn thế hệ những người kính yêu Ngài, tôn trọng điều răn Ngài.
10 and yeldith anoon to hem that haten hym, so that he destrie hem, and differr no lengere; restorynge anoon to hem that that thei disseruen.
Nhưng Ngài sẽ tiêu diệt không nới tay những ai ghét bỏ Ngài.
11 Therfor kepe thou the comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche Y comaunde to thee to dai, that thou do.
Vậy, anh em phải thận trọng, tuân hành mọi điều răn, luật lệ tôi truyền lại cho anh em hôm nay.
12 If aftir that thou herist these domes, thou kepist, and doist tho, thi Lord God schal kepe to thee couenaunt, and mersi, which he swoor to thi fadris.
Nếu anh em tôn trọng pháp luật, Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, sẽ thương yêu anh em và thi hành giao ước Ngài đã kết với các tổ tiên.
13 And he schal loue thee, and schal multiplie thee, and he schal blesse the fruyt of thi wombe, and the fruyt of thi lond, thi wheete, and vindage, oile, and droues of beestis, and the flockis of thi scheep, on the lond for which he swoor to thi fadris, that he schulde yyue it to thee.
Ngài sẽ yêu quý, ban phước lành cho anh em, gia tăng dân số Ít-ra-ên. Ngài sẽ ban phước cho con cháu anh em, cho mùa màng, ngũ cốc, rượu, và dầu. Bầy gia súc sẽ được gia tăng trong lãnh thổ Ngài sắp cho anh em, theo lời Ngài hứa với tổ tiên.
14 Thou schalt be blessid among alle puplis; noon bareyn of euer eithir kynde schal be at thee, as well in men, as in thi flockis.
Ít-ra-ên sẽ được phước hơn mọi dân tộc khác. Trong dân, sẽ không có ai son sẻ, và cho đến gia súc cũng vậy.
15 The Lord schal do awei fro thee all ache, `ether sorewe; and he schal not brynge to thee the worste siknessis of Egipt, whiche thou knewist, but to alle thin enemyes.
Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ cho anh em không mắc bệnh tật, các bệnh hiểm nghèo anh em đã thấy tại Ai Cập sẽ không ảnh hưởng gì đến anh em, nhưng Ngài dành những bệnh ấy cho ai thù ghét anh em.
16 And thou schalt `deuoure, that is, distrie, alle puplis, whiche thi Lord God schal yyue to thee; thin iye schal not spare hem, nethir thou schalt serue the goddis `of hem, lest thei ben in to the fallyng of thee.
Về phần anh em, phải diệt các dân tộc Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em đặt dưới tay anh em, không thương xót. Cũng không được thờ các thần của họ, vì đây là một cái bẫy.
17 If thou seist in thin herte, These folkis ben mo than Y, hou may Y do awei hem?
Nếu anh em thắc mắc: ‘Các dân tộc ấy đông hơn dân ta, làm sao diệt họ được?’
18 `nyle thou drede, but haue thou mynde, what thingis thi Lord God dide to Farao, and alle Egipcians;
Đừng sợ, cứ nhớ lại những việc Chúa đã làm cho Pha-ra-ôn và Ai Cập.
19 `he dide the gretteste veniaunces, whiche thin iyen sien, and miraclis and grete wondris, and the strong hond, and arm `holdun forth, that thi Lord God schulde lede thee out; so he schal do to alle puplis whiche thou dredist.
Anh em đã chứng kiến những cuộc thử thách kinh hồn, những phép lạ, quyền lực uy dũng của Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời khi Ngài ra tay giải thoát anh em ra khỏi Ai Cập. Ngài cũng sẽ trừng trị các dân tộc anh em đang sợ như thế.
20 Ferthermore and thi Lord God schal sende venemouse flies in to hem, til he do awei, and destrye alle men, that fledden thee, and thei schulen not mowe be hid.
Hơn nữa, Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em cũng sẽ sai ong vò vẽ làm cho những người trốn tránh phải lộ mặt ra cho anh em diệt sạch.
21 Thou schalt not drede hem, for thi Lord is in the myddis of thee, grete God, and ferdful.
Đừng sợ các dân ấy, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời vĩ đại uy nghiêm ở giữa anh em.
22 He hym silf schal waste these naciouns in thi siyt, litil and litil, and bi partis; thou schalt not mow do awey `tho naciouns togidere, lest peraventure beestis of erthe be multiplied ayens thee;
Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em sẽ diệt dần dần các dân tộc ấy. Không phải ngay tức khắc; nếu không, thú dữ sẽ gia tăng và đe dọa anh em.
23 and thi Lord God schal yyue hem in thi siyt, and he schal sle hem, til thei be doon awey outerly.
Dù sao, Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em cũng sẽ tiêu diệt họ hoàn toàn.
24 And he schal bitake the kyngis `of hem in to thin hondis, and thou schalt destrie the names `of hem vndur heuene; noon schal mow ayenstonde thee, til thou al to-breke hem.
Ngài sẽ giao vua các nước ấy cho anh em, và anh em sẽ xóa tên họ khỏi mặt đất. Không một ai cưỡng nổi anh em, tất cả đều bị tiêu diệt.
25 Thou schalt brenne in fier the grauun ymagis `of hem; thou schalt not coueite the siluer and gold, of whiche tho ymagis ben maad, nether thou schalt take of tho ony thing to thee, lest thou offende therfor, for it is abhominacioun of thi Lord God.
Anh em phải thiêu các tượng thần họ đi. Đừng thấy các tượng ấy làm bằng vàng, bằng bạc mà ham muốn rồi giữ lại. Nếu giữ lại, các tượng ấy sẽ như bẫy cài chờ đón anh em, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, ghê tởm các thần tượng.
26 Nether thou schalt brynge ony thing of the idol in to thin hous, lest thou be maad cursid, as also that idol is; thou schalt wlate it as filthe, and thou schalt haue it as defoulyng, and filthis of abhomynacioun, for it is cursid.
Không ai được đem một vật ghê tởm vào nhà để hứng lấy họa tiêu diệt. Anh em phải tuyệt nhiên ghê tởm tượng thần, vì tượng thần là những vật bị nguyền rủa.”
