Deuteronomy 7
1 Whanne thi Lord God hath lad thee in to the lond, in to which thou schalt entre to welde, and hath do awey many folkis bifor thee, Ethei, and Gergesei, and Ammorrey, Canenei, and Pherezei, Euey, and Jebusei; seuene folkis, of myche gretter noumbre than thou art, and strengere than thou;
Quando l’Iddio tuo, l’Eterno, ti avrà introdotto nel paese dove vai per prenderne possesso, e ne avrà cacciate d’innanzi a te molte nazioni: gli Hittei, i Ghirgasei, gli Amorei, i Cananei, i Ferezei, gli Hivvei e i Gebusei, sette nazioni più grandi e più potenti di te,
2 and thi Lord God hath bitake hem to thee, thou schalt smyte hem `til to deeth, thou schalt not make `with hem a boond of pees, nether thou schalt haue merci on hem,
e quando l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, le avrà date in tuo potere e tu le avrai sconfitte, tu le voterai allo sterminio: non farai con esse alleanza, ne farai loro grazia.
3 nether thou schalt felowschipe mariagis with him; thou schalt not yyue thi douyter to the sone `of hym, nether thou schalt take his douytir to thi sone;
Non t’imparenterai con loro, non darai le tue figliuole ai loro figliuoli e non prenderai le loro figliuole per i tuoi figliuoli,
4 for sche schal disceyue thi sone, that he sue not me, and that he serue more alien goddis; and the strong veniaunce of the Lord schal be wrooth, and schal do awei thee soone.
perché stornerebbero i tuoi figliuoli dal seguir me per farli servire a dèi stranieri, e l’ira dell’Eterno s’accenderebbe contro a voi, ed egli ben presto vi distruggerebbe.
5 But rather thou schalt do these thingis to hem; destrie ye the auteris `of hem, and breke ye ymagis `of metal, and kitte ye doun wodis, and brenne ye grauun ymagis.
Ma farete loro così: demolirete i loro altari, spezzerete le loro statue, abbatterete i loro idoli e darete alle fiamme le loro immagini scolpite.
6 For thou art an hooli puple to thi Lord God; thi Lord God chees thee, that thou be a special puple to hym, of alle puplis that ben on erthe.
Poiché tu sei un popolo consacrato all’Eterno, ch’è l’Iddio tuo; l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, ti ha scelto per essere il suo tesoro particolare fra tutti i popoli che sono sulla faccia della terra.
7 Not for ye ouercamen in noumbre alle folkis, the Lord is ioyned to you, and chees yow, sithen ye ben fewere than alle puplis;
L’Eterno ha riposto in voi la sua affezione e vi ha scelti, non perché foste più numerosi di tutti gli altri popoli, ché anzi siete meno numerosi d’ogni altro popolo;
8 but for the Lord louede you, and kepte the ooth which he swoor to youre fadris; and he ledde you out in strong hond, and ayen bouyte you fro the hows of seruage, fro `the hows of Farao, kyng of Egipt.
ma perché l’Eterno vi ama, perché ha voluto mantenere il giuramento fatto ai vostri padri, l’Eterno vi ha tratti fuori con mano potente e vi ha redenti dalla casa di schiavitù, dalla mano di Faraone, re d’Egitto.
9 And thou schalt wite, that thi Lord God hym silf is a strong God, and feithful, and kepith couenaunt and mersi to hem that louen hym, and to hem that kepen hise comaundementis, in to a thousynde generaciouns;
Riconosci dunque che l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, è Dio: l’Iddio fedele, che mantiene il suo patto e la sua benignità fino alla millesima generazione a quelli che l’amano e osservano i suoi comandamenti,
10 and yeldith anoon to hem that haten hym, so that he destrie hem, and differr no lengere; restorynge anoon to hem that that thei disseruen.
ma rende immediatamente a quelli che l’odiano ciò che si meritano, distruggendoli; non differisce, ma rende immediatamente a chi l’odia ciò che si merita.
11 Therfor kepe thou the comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche Y comaunde to thee to dai, that thou do.
Osserva dunque i comandamenti, le leggi e le prescrizioni che oggi ti do, mettendoli in pratica.
12 If aftir that thou herist these domes, thou kepist, and doist tho, thi Lord God schal kepe to thee couenaunt, and mersi, which he swoor to thi fadris.
E avverrà che, per aver voi dato ascolto a queste prescrizioni e per averle osservate e messe in pratica, il vostro Dio, l’Eterno, vi manterrà il patto e la benignità che promise con giuramento ai vostri padri.
13 And he schal loue thee, and schal multiplie thee, and he schal blesse the fruyt of thi wombe, and the fruyt of thi lond, thi wheete, and vindage, oile, and droues of beestis, and the flockis of thi scheep, on the lond for which he swoor to thi fadris, that he schulde yyue it to thee.
Egli t’amerà, ti benedirà, ti moltiplicherà, benedirà il frutto del tuo seno e il frutto del tuo suolo: il tuo frumento, il tuo mosto e il tuo olio, il figliare delle tue vacche e delle tue pecore, nel paese che giurò ai tuoi padri di darti.
14 Thou schalt be blessid among alle puplis; noon bareyn of euer eithir kynde schal be at thee, as well in men, as in thi flockis.
Tu sarai benedetto più di tutti i popoli, e non ci sarà in mezzo a te né uomo né donna sterile, né animale sterile fra il tuo bestiame.
15 The Lord schal do awei fro thee all ache, `ether sorewe; and he schal not brynge to thee the worste siknessis of Egipt, whiche thou knewist, but to alle thin enemyes.
L’Eterno allontanerà da te ogni malattia, e non manderà su te alcuno di quei morbi funesti d’Egitto che ben conoscesti, ma li farà venire addosso a quelli che t’odiano.
16 And thou schalt `deuoure, that is, distrie, alle puplis, whiche thi Lord God schal yyue to thee; thin iye schal not spare hem, nethir thou schalt serue the goddis `of hem, lest thei ben in to the fallyng of thee.
Sterminerai dunque tutti i popoli che l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, sta per dare in tuo potere; l’occhio tuo non n’abbia pietà; e non servire agli dèi loro, perché ciò ti sarebbe un laccio. Forse dirai in cuor tuo:
17 If thou seist in thin herte, These folkis ben mo than Y, hou may Y do awei hem?
“Queste nazioni sono più numerose di me; come potrò io cacciarle?”
18 `nyle thou drede, but haue thou mynde, what thingis thi Lord God dide to Farao, and alle Egipcians;
Non le temere; ricordati di quello che l’Eterno, il tuo Dio, fece a Faraone e a tutti gli Egiziani;
19 `he dide the gretteste veniaunces, whiche thin iyen sien, and miraclis and grete wondris, and the strong hond, and arm `holdun forth, that thi Lord God schulde lede thee out; so he schal do to alle puplis whiche thou dredist.
ricordati delle grandi prove che vedesti con gli occhi tuoi, de’ miracoli e dei prodigi, della mano potente e del braccio steso coi quali l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, ti trasse dall’Egitto; così farà l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, a tutti i popoli, dei quali hai timore.
20 Ferthermore and thi Lord God schal sende venemouse flies in to hem, til he do awei, and destrye alle men, that fledden thee, and thei schulen not mowe be hid.
L’Eterno, il tuo Dio, manderà pure contro a loro i calabroni, finché quelli che saranno rimasti e quelli che si saranno nascosti per paura di te, siano periti.
21 Thou schalt not drede hem, for thi Lord is in the myddis of thee, grete God, and ferdful.
Non ti sgomentare per via di loro, poiché l’Iddio tuo, l’Eterno, è in mezzo a te, Dio grande e terribile.
22 He hym silf schal waste these naciouns in thi siyt, litil and litil, and bi partis; thou schalt not mow do awey `tho naciouns togidere, lest peraventure beestis of erthe be multiplied ayens thee;
E l’Eterno, l’Iddio tuo, caccerà a poco a poco queste nazioni d’innanzi a te; tu non le potrai distruggere a un tratto, perché altrimenti le fiere della campagna moltiplicherebbero a tuo danno;
23 and thi Lord God schal yyue hem in thi siyt, and he schal sle hem, til thei be doon awey outerly.
ma il tuo Dio, l’Eterno, le darà in tuo potere, e le metterà interamente in rotta finché siano distrutte.
24 And he schal bitake the kyngis `of hem in to thin hondis, and thou schalt destrie the names `of hem vndur heuene; noon schal mow ayenstonde thee, til thou al to-breke hem.
Ti darà nelle mani i loro re, e tu farai scomparire i loro nomi di sotto ai cieli; nessuno potrà starti a fronte, finché tu le abbia distrutte.
25 Thou schalt brenne in fier the grauun ymagis `of hem; thou schalt not coueite the siluer and gold, of whiche tho ymagis ben maad, nether thou schalt take of tho ony thing to thee, lest thou offende therfor, for it is abhominacioun of thi Lord God.
Darai alle fiamme le immagini scolpite dei loro dèi; non agognerai e non prenderai per te l’argento ch’è su quelle, onde tu non abbia a esserne preso come da un laccio; perché sono un’abominazione per l’Eterno, ch’è l’Iddio tuo;
26 Nether thou schalt brynge ony thing of the idol in to thin hous, lest thou be maad cursid, as also that idol is; thou schalt wlate it as filthe, and thou schalt haue it as defoulyng, and filthis of abhomynacioun, for it is cursid.
e non introdurrai cosa abominevole in casa tua, perché saresti maledetto, com’è quella cosa; la detesterai e l’abominerai assolutamente, perché è un interdetto.
