Deuteronomy 5
1 And Moises clepide al Israel, and seide to hym, Here, thou Israel, the cerymonyes and domes, whiche Y speke to dai in youre eeris; lerne ye tho, and `fille ye in werk.
Moïse fit appel à tout Israël, et leur dit: "Ecoute, Israël, les lois et les statuts que je vous fais entendre aujourd’hui; étudiez-les et appliquez-vous à les suivre.
2 Oure Lord God made a boond of pees with vs in Oreb;
L’Éternel, notre Dieu, a contracté avec nous une alliance au Horeb.
3 he made not couenaunt, `that is, of lawe writun, with oure fadris, but with vs that ben present, and lyuen.
Ce n’est pas avec nos pères que l’Éternel a contracté cette alliance, c’est avec nous-mêmes, nous qui sommes ici, aujourd’hui, tous vivants.
4 Face to face he spak to vs in the hil, fro the myddis of the fier.
C’Est face à face que l’Éternel vous parla sur la montagne, du milieu de la flamme.
5 Y was recouncelere and mediatour bitwixe God and you in that tyme, that Y schulde telle to you the wordis `of hym, for ye dredden the fier, and `stieden not in to the hil. And `the Lord seide,
Moi, je me tenais, en ce temps-là, entre l’Éternel et vous, pour vous exposer la parole de l’Éternel, parce que, terrifiés par la flamme, vous n’approchâtes point de la montagne; et il disait:
6 Y am thi Lord God, that ladde thee out of the lond of Egipt, fro the hows of seruage.
"Je suis l’Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t’ai fait sortir du pays d’Egypte, d’une maison d’esclavage.
7 Thou schalt not haue alien Goddis in my siyt.
Tu n’auras point d’autre Dieu que moi.
8 Thou schalt not make to thee a grauun ymage, nether a licnesse of alle thingis that ben in heuene aboue, and that ben in erthe bynethe, and that lyuen in watris vndur erthe;
Tu ne te feras point d’idole, l’image de quoi que ce soit dans le ciel en haut, ou en bas sur la terre, ou dans les eaux au-dessous de la terre.
9 thou schalt not herie tho, `and thou schalt not worschipe tho; for Y am thi Lord God, `God a feruent louyer; and Y yelde the wickidnesse of fadris, in to sones in to the thridde and the fourthe generacioun to hem that haten me,
Tu ne te prosterneras point devant elles, tu ne les adoreras point; car moi seul, l’Éternel, je suis ton Dieu, Dieu jaloux, qui poursuis le crime des pères sur la troisième et la quatrième générations, pour ceux qui m’offensent,
10 and Y do mersy in to many thousyndis to hem that louen me, and kepen myn heestis.
et qui étends mes faveurs à la millième, pour ceux qui m’aiment et gardent mes commandements.
11 Thou schalt not mystake the name of thi Lord God in veyn, for he schal not be vnpunyschid, that takith the name of God on a veyn thing.
Tu n’invoqueras point le nom de l’Éternel, ton Dieu, à l’appui du mensonge; car l’Éternel ne laisse pas impuni celui qui invoque son nom pour le mensonge.
12 Kepe thou the `day of sabat that thou halewe it, as thi Lord God comaundide to thee.
Observe le jour du Sabbat pour le sanctifier, comme te l’a prescrit l’Éternel, ton Dieu.
13 In sixe daies thou schalt worche, and thou schalt do alle thi werkis;
Durant six jours tu travailleras et t’occuperas de toutes tes affaires;
14 the seventhe day is `of sabat, that is the reste of thi Lord God. Thou schalt not do therynne ony thing of werk; thou, and thi sone, and douyter, seruaunt, and handmaide, and oxe, and asse, and `al thi werk beeste, and the pilgrym which is with ynne thi yatis; that thi seruaunt reste and thin handmaide, as also thou.
mais le septième jour est la trêve de l’Éternel, ton Dieu: tu n’y feras aucun travail, toi, ton fils ni ta fille, ton esclave mâle ou femelle, ton bœuf, ton âne, ni tes autres bêtes, non plus que l’étranger qui est dans tes murs; car ton serviteur et ta servante doivent se reposer comme toi.
15 Bithenke thou, that also thou seruedist in Egipt, and thi Lord God ledde thee out fro thennus, in a strong hond, and arm holdun forth; therfor he comaundide to thee, that thou schuldist kepe the `dai of sabat.
Et tu te souviendras que tu fus esclave au pays d’Egypte, et que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’en a fait sortir d’une main puissante et d’un bras étendu; c’est pourquoi l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a prescrit d’observer te jour du Sabbat.
16 Onoure thi fadir and thi modir, as thi Lord God comaundide to thee, that thou lyue in long tyme, and that it be wel to thee, in the lond which thi Lord God schal yyue to thee.
Honore ton père et ta mère, comme te l’a prescrit l’Éternel, ton Dieu, afin de prolonger tes jours et de vivre heureux sur la terre que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te destine.
17 Thou schalt not sle.
Ne commets point d’homicide.
18 Thou schalt not do letcherie.
Ne commets point d’adultère.
19 And thou schalt not do thefte.
Ne commets point de larcin.
20 Thou schalt not speke fals witnessyng ayens thi neiybore.
Ne porte point contre ton prochain un faux témoignage.
21 Thou schalt not coueite `the wijf of thi neiybore, not hows, not feeld, not seruaunt, not handmayde, not oxe, not asse, and alle thingis that ben hise.
Ne convoite point la femme de ton prochain, et ne désire la maison de ton prochain ni son champ, son esclave ni sa servante, son bœuf ni son âne, ni rien de ce qui est à ton prochain."
22 The Lord spak these wordis to al youre multitude, in the hil, fro the myddis of fier and of cloude and of myist, with greet vois, and addide no thing more; and he wroot tho wordis in two tablis of stoon, whiche he yaf to me.
Ces paroles, l’Éternel les adressa à toute votre assemblée sur la montagne, du milieu des feux, des nuées et de la brume, d’une voix puissante, sans y rien ajouter; puis il les écrivit sur deux tables de pierre, qu’il me remit.
23 Forsothe after that ye herden the vois fro the myddis of the derknessis, and sien the hil brenne, alle ye princis of lynagis, and the grettere men in birthe, neiyiden to me, and seiden, Lo!
Or, quand vous eûtes entendu cette voix sortir du sein des ténèbres, tandis que la montagne était en feu, vous vîntes tous à moi, les chefs de vos tribus et vos anciens,
24 oure Lord God schewide to vs his maieste and greetnesse; we herden his vois fro the myddis of fier, and we preueden to day that a man lyuede, `while God spak with man.
en disant: "Certes, l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a révélé sa gloire et sa grandeur, et nous avons entendu sa voix du milieu de la flamme; nous avons vu aujourd’hui Dieu parler à l’homme et celui-ci vivre!
25 Whi therfor schulen we die, and schal this gretteste fier deuoure vs? For if we heren more the vois of oure Lord God, we schulen die.
Mais désormais, pourquoi nous exposer à mourir, consumés par cette grande flamme? Si nous entendons une fois de plus la voix de l’Éternel, notre Dieu, nous sommes morts.
26 What is ech man, that he here the vois of God lyuynge, that spekith fro the myddis of fier, as we herden, and that he may lyue?
Car est-il une seule créature qui ait entendu, comme nous, la voix du Dieu vivant parler du milieu du feu, et soit demeurée vivante?
27 Rathere neiye thou, and here thou alle thingis whiche oure Lord God schal seie to thee; and thou schalt speke to vs, and we schulen here, and schulen do tho wordis.
Va toi-même et écoute tout ce que dira l’Éternel, notre Dieu; et c’est toi qui nous rapporteras tout ce que l’Éternel, notre Dieu, t’aura dit, et nous l’entendrons, et nous obéirons."
28 And whanne the Lord hadde herd this, he seide to me, Y herde the vois of the wordis of this puple, whiche thei spaken to thee; thei spaken wel alle thingis.
L’Éternel entendit les paroles que vous m’adressiez, et il me dit: "J’Ai ouï la voix de ce peuple, les paroles qu’il t’adresse: tout ce qu’ils ont dit est bien dit.
29 Who schal yyue `that thei haue siche soule, that thei drede me, and kepe alle my comaundementis in al tyme, that it be wel to hem and to the sones `of hem, with outen ende?
Ah! S’Ils pouvaient conserver en tout temps cette disposition à me craindre et à garder tous mes commandements! Alors ils seraient heureux, et leurs enfants aussi, à jamais!
30 Go thou, and seye to hem, Turne ye ayen in to youre tentis.
Va, dis-leur de rentrer dans leurs tentes;
31 Sotheli stonde thou here with me, and Y schal speke to thee alle comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche thou schalt teche hem, that thei do tho in the lond which Y schal yyue to hem in to possessioun.
toi ensuite, tu resteras ici avec moi, et je te dirai toute la loi, et les statuts et les règles que tu dois leur enseigner, afin qu’ils les observent dans le pays dont je leur destine la possession."
32 Therfor kepe ye, and `do ye tho thingis, whiche the Lord God comaundide to you; ye schulen not bowe awey, nether to the riyt side nether to the left side,
Ayez donc soin d’observer ce que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a ordonné; ne vous en écartez ni à droite ni à gauche.
33 but ye schulen go bi the weie whiche youre Lord God comaundide, that ye lyue, and that it be wel to you, and that youre daies be lengthid in the lond of youre possessioun.
Toute la voie que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous a tracée, suivez-la, et vous vivrez heureux, et vous aurez de longs jours dans le pays que vous posséderez.
