Deuteronomy 4
1 And now, thou Israel, here the comaundementis and domes whiche Y teche thee, that thou do tho, and lyue, and that thow entre and welde the lond which the Lord God of youre fadris schal yyue to you.
“Hỡi anh em! Bây giờ xin lắng tai nghe kỹ và tuân hành những luật lệ tôi công bố. Nhờ vậy, dân ta mới mong sống còn, để đi chiếm vùng đất Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời của cha ông chúng ta ban cho.
2 Ye schulen not adde to the word which Y speke to you, nether ye schulen take awei `fro it; kepe ye the comaundementis of youre Lord God, which Y comaunde to you.
Đừng thêm bớt điều gì vào luật này, chỉ việc tuân hành, vì đây là luật của Chúa.
3 Youre iyen sien alle thingis whiche the Lord dide ayens Belphegor; how he alto brak alle the worschiperis `of hym fro the myddis of you.
Anh em đã thấy tận mắt điều Chúa Hằng Hữu làm trong vụ Ba-anh Phê-o. Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của chúng ta, đã tiêu diệt những ai theo Ba-anh Phê-ô.
4 Forsothe ye that cleuen to youre Lord God lyuen alle `til in to present day.
Còn ai trung thành với Chúa Hằng Hữu thì được sống cho đến hôm nay.
5 Ye witen that Y tauyte you the comaundementis and riytfulnessis, as my Lord God comaundide to me; so ye schulen do tho in the lond whiche ye schulen welde,
Luật lệ tôi đang dạy anh em đây là luật Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của tôi truyền cho tôi, cũng là luật áp dụng trong lãnh thổ anh em sẽ chiếm cứ.
6 and ye schulen kepe, and schulen fille in werk. For this is youre wisdom and vndurstondyng bifor puplis, that alle men here these comaundementis, and seie, Lo! a wise puple and vnderstondynge! a greet folk!
Nếu triệt để tuân hành luật này thì anh em trở nên khôn ngoan, thấu đáo. Những dân tộc khác khi nghiên cứu luật này sẽ trầm trồ: ‘Đây là một dân tộc khôn ngoan, trí tuệ!’
7 Noon other nacioun is so greet, `not in noumbre ether in bodili quantite, but in dignite, that hath Goddis neiyynge to it silf, as oure God is redi to alle oure bisechyngis.
Vì làm gì có một nước nào—dù lớn đến đâu—có một vị thần ở gần bên dân, như Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta, ở gần bên chúng ta, nghe lời chúng ta cầu khẩn?
8 For whi what other folk is so noble, that it hath cerymonyes and iust domes, and al the lawe which Y schal `sette forth to dai bifor youre iyen?
Có nước nào—dù lớn đến đâu—có được một bộ luật công chính như bộ luật tôi ban hành hôm nay?
9 Therfor kepe thi silf, and thi soule bisili; foryete thou not the wordis whiche thin iyen sien, and falle tho not doun fro thin herte, in alle the daies of thi lijf. Thou schalt teche tho thi sones and thi sones sones.
Phải hết lòng thận trọng, ghi khắc những điều mình đã thấy vào tâm khảm, suốt đời đừng quên. Cũng kể lại cho con cháu mình những điều tai nghe mắt thấy Chúa Hằng Hữu đã làm.
10 Telle thou the day in which thou stodist bifor thi Lord God in Oreb, whanne the Lord spak to me, and seide, Gadere thou the puple to me, that it here my wordis, and lerne for to drede me in al tyme in which it lyueth in erthe, and teche hise sones.
Như hôm tại Núi Hô-rếp, lúc anh em đứng trước mặt Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, Ngài bảo tôi: ‘Hãy triệu tập dân chúng lại đây cho họ nghe lời Ta dạy, để họ biết kính sợ Ta suốt những ngày sống trên đất, và họ sẽ dạy con cái họ kính sợ Ta.’
11 And ye neiyiden to the `roote of the hille, that brente `til to heuene; and derknessis, and cloude, and myist weren therynne.
Anh em kéo đến đứng dưới chân núi, trong khi trên núi lửa cháy dữ dội, ngọn cao tận trời, mây phủ đen kịt, bóng tối dày đặc.
12 And the Lord spak to you fro the myddis of fier; ye herden the vois of hise wordis, and outirli ye sien no fourme.
Từ giữa đám lửa, Chúa Hằng Hữu nói với anh em. Anh em nghe tiếng nói nhưng không thấy hình dáng Ngài.
13 And he schewide to you his couenaunt, which he comaundide, that ye schulden do, and `he schewide ten wordis, whiche he wroot in two tablis of stoon.
Ngài ban bố Mười Điều Răn cho anh em tuân hành, và ghi các điều răn lên hai bảng đá.
14 And he comaundide to me in that tyme, that Y schulde teche you cerymonyes and domes, whiche ye owen to do in the lond whiche ye schulen welde.
Đó là lúc Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo tôi dạy cho anh em luật lệ áp dụng trong lãnh thổ sắp chiếm cứ.”
15 Therfor kepe ye bisili youre soulis; ye sien not ony licnesse in the dai in which the Lord spak to you in Oreb, fro the myddis of the fier;
“Vậy phải thận trọng, vì hôm ấy trên Núi Hô-rếp, khi Chúa Hằng Hữu nói với anh em từ trong đám lửa, anh em không thấy hình dáng của Ngài.
16 lest perauenture ye be disseyued and make to you a grauun licnesse, ether an ymage of male, ether of female;
Nên đừng hành động một cách bại hoại mà làm tượng thờ theo bất kỳ hình dáng nào, dù là hình dáng đàn ông, đàn bà,
17 a licnesse of alle beestis that ben on erthe, ether of bridis fleynge vndur heuene,
hay thú vật trên đất, chim chóc trên trời,
18 and of crepynge beestis that ben moued in erthe, ether of fischis that dwellen vndur the erthe in watris; lest perauenture,
hoặc bất cứ loài côn trùng nào bò trên đất, hay loài cá nào dưới nước.
19 whanne thin iyen ben reisid to heuene, thou se the sonne, and moone, and alle the sterris of heuene, and be disseyued bi errour, and worschipe tho, `bi outermer reuerence, and onour, `bi ynner reuerence, `tho thingis whiche thi Lord God made of nouyt, in to seruyce to alle folkis that ben vndur heuene.
Cũng phải coi chừng, đừng thờ mặt trời, mặt trăng, hay các ngôi sao trên trời, vì đó chỉ là những vật Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em phân phối cho mọi người ở dưới trời.
20 Forsothe the Lord took you, and ledde out of the yrun furneys of Egipt, that he schulde haue a puple of eritage, as it is in `present dai.
Chúa Hằng Hữu đã cứu anh em ra khỏi cảnh dầu sôi lửa bỏng ở Ai Cập, cho anh em được làm dân của Ngài như ngày nay.
21 And the Lord was wrooth ayens me for youre wordis, and swoor that Y schulde not passe Jordan, and schulde not entre in to the beeste lond, which he schal yyue to you.
Nhưng Chúa Hằng Hữu giận tôi vì anh em phạm tội. Ngài nhất quyết không cho tôi qua Sông Giô-đan, vào đất tốt đẹp Ngài hứa cho anh em làm sản nghiệp.
22 Lo! Y die in this erthe; Y schal not passe Jordan; ye schulen passe, and schulen welde the noble lond.
Tôi phải qua đời ở bên này sông, còn anh em sẽ vượt sông Giô-đan, chiếm hữu vùng đất tốt đẹp đó.
23 Be thou war, lest ony tyme thou foryete the couenaunt of thi Lord God, which he made with thee, and lest thou make to thee a grauun licness of tho thingis whiche the Lord forbeed to make.
Vậy, phải thận trọng, không được quên giao ước Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, đã kết với anh em. Đừng làm tượng thờ dưới bất kỳ hình thức nào, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em đã cấm ngặt.
24 For thi Lord God is fier wastynge; `God, a feruent louyere.
Vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em là lửa thiêu hủy; Ngài là Thần kỵ tà.
25 If ye gendren sones, and sones of sones, and ye dwellen in the lond, and ye be disceyued, and make to you ony licnesse, and doen yuel bifor youre Lord God, that ye terren hym to greet wrathe,
Sau này, khi ai nấy đã có con cháu đầy đàn, đã ở trong đất hứa lâu năm, nếu anh em hành động cách bại hoại, làm tượng thờ dù dưới hình thức nào, tức là khiêu khích Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em và chọc giận Ngài.
26 Y clepe witnesses to dai heuene and erthe, `that is, ech resonable creature beynge in heuene and in erthe, that ye schulen perische soone fro the lond, which ye schulen welde, whanne ye han passid Jordan; ye schulen not dwelle long tyme therynne, but the Lord schal do awey you,
Xin trời đất chứng giám cho chúng ta hôm nay—nếu thế, anh em chắc chắn phải bị tiêu diệt khỏi lãnh thổ bên kia Giô-đan mà anh em sắp chiếm. Thời gian anh em cư trú tại đó sẽ thật ngắn ngủi.
27 and schal scatere `in to alle hethen men, and ye schulen leeue fewe among naciouns, to whiche the Lord schal lede you.
Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ phân tán anh em giữa các nước khác, và số người sống sót sẽ thật ít ỏi.
28 And there ye schulen serue to goddis, that ben maad bi `the hond of men, to a tre and a stoon, that `seen not, nether heren, nether eten, nether smellen.
Tại các nước ấy, anh em sẽ thờ các thần bằng gỗ, bằng đá do người ta làm ra; các thần ấy không thấy, không nghe, không ăn, hay không ngửi.
29 And whanne thou hast souyt there thi Lord God, thou schalt fynde hym; if netheles thou sekist with al the herte, and with al the tribulacioun of thi soule.
Rồi anh em sẽ tìm kiếm Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em. Và nếu hết lòng, hết linh hồn tìm kiếm, anh em sẽ gặp Ngài.
30 Aftir that alle thingis han founde thee, that ben biforseid, forsothe in the laste tyme, thou schalt turne ayen to thi Lord God, and thou schalt here his vois.
Trong những ngày hoạn nạn khốn cùng ấy, anh em sẽ quay lại với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, vâng theo lời Ngài.
31 For thi Lord God is merciful God; he schal not forsake thee, nethir he schal do awey outirli, nethir he schal foryete the couenaunt, in which he swoor to thi fadris.
Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, đầy lòng thương xót; Ngài không từ bỏ, tuyệt diệt anh em, cũng không quên giao ước Ngài đã lập với tổ tiên của anh em.”
32 Axe thou of elde daies that weren bifor thee, fro the day in which thi Lord God made of nouyt man on erthe, axe thou fro that oon ende of heuene `til to the tother ende therof, if sich a thing was doon ony tyme, ether if it was euere knowun,
“Trong quá khứ, tính từ khi Đức Chúa Trời tạo dựng loài người, từ góc trời này cho đến góc trời kia, có bao giờ có việc lạ thế này.
33 that a puple herde the vois of God spekynge fro the myddis of the fier, as thou herdist, and siest;
Một dân tộc nghe tiếng Đức Chúa Trời nói từ trong đám lửa, như trường hợp anh em, mà vẫn còn sống?
34 if God `dide, that he entride, and took to him silf a folc fro the middis of naciouns, bi temptaciouns, myraclis, and grete wondris, bi batel, and strong hond, and arm holdun forth, and orrible siytis, bi alle thingis whiche youre Lord God dide for you in Egipt, `while thin iyen sien;
Có bao giờ Đức Chúa Trời dùng phép lạ, hoạn nạn, chiến tranh, các việc khủng khiếp để giải cứu một dân tộc nô lệ đang ở ngay trong nước đô hộ, như trường hợp Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em ra tay trừng trị Ai Cập ngay trước mắt anh em hay không?
35 that thou schuldist wite, that the Lord hym silf is God, and noon other is, outakun oon.
Đó là những việc Ngài cho anh em thấy tận mắt, để anh em ý thức được chính Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời, ngoài ra không có thần nào khác.
36 Fro heuene he made thee to here his vois, that he schulde teche thee; and in erthe he schewide to thee his grettiste fier, and thou herdist the wordis `of hym fro the myddis of the fier;
Chúa cho anh em nghe tiếng Ngài vang ra từ trời để anh em được giáo hóa. Dưới đất, Ngài cho anh em thấy trụ lửa, và tiếng Ngài phát ra từ trong đám lửa.
37 for he louyde thi fadris, and chees her seed aftir hem. And he ledde thee out of Egipt, and yede bifore in his greet vertu,
Vì thương yêu tổ tiên chúng ta và dòng giống của tổ tiên, Ngài đích thân đem anh em ra khỏi Ai Cập bằng những phép lạ phi thường.
38 that he schulde do awei grettiste naciouns, and strongere than thou, in thin entryng, and that he schulde lede thee ynne, and schulde yyue to thee the lond `of hem in to possessioun, as thou seest in `present day.
Ngài đánh đuổi dân các nước lớn mạnh hơn chúng ta, để đem anh em vào chiếm lấy đất họ làm sản nghiệp, như anh em thấy ngày nay.
39 Therfor wite thou to dai, and thenke in thin herte, that the Lord him silfe is God in heuene aboue, and in erthe bynethe, and noon other is.
Vậy, anh em phải nhận thức và ghi khắc vào lòng rằng, trên trời, dưới đất, chỉ có Chúa Hằng Hữu là Đức Chúa Trời, chẳng có thần linh nào khác.
40 Kepe thou hise heestis, and comaundementis, whiche Y comaunde to thee, that it be wel to thee, and to thi sones after thee, and that thou dwelle mych tyme on the lond, which thi Lord God schal yyue to thee.
Anh em nhớ tuân theo các luật lệ tôi ban bố hôm nay, nhờ đó mà anh em và con cháu mai sau sẽ được thịnh vượng, vui hưởng tuổi thọ trong lãnh thổ Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của anh em, ban cho vĩnh viễn.”
41 Thanne Moises departide thre citees biyende Jordan at the eest coost,
Sau đó, Môi-se ra chỉ thị, dành riêng ba thành bên bờ phía đông Sông Giô-đan
42 that he fle to tho, that sleeth his neighbore not wilfuli, and was not enemy bifore oon and `the tother dai, and that he mai fle to summe of these citees;
dùng làm nơi trú ẩn cho những ai lầm lỡ giết người, không có hiềm khích trước.
43 Bosor in the wildirnesse, which is set in the feeldi lond, of the lynage of Ruben; and Ramoth in Galaad, which is in the lynage of Gad; and Golan in Basan, which is in the lynage of Manasses.
Các thành đó là Bê-xe trên cao nguyên, trong hoang mạc, dành cho đại tộc Ru-bên; Ra-mốt trong Ga-la-át, cho đại tộc Gát; và Gô-lan thuộc Ba-san, cho đại tộc Ma-na-se.
44 This is the lawe which Moises `settide forth bifor the sones of Israel,
Sau đây là bộ luật Môi-se ban hành cho người Ít-ra-ên.
45 and these ben the witnessyngis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche he spak to the sones of Israel, whanne thei yeden out of Egipt,
Đó là những quy định, phép tắc, luật lệ Môi-se trao cho họ sau khi ra khỏi Ai Cập,
46 biyende Jordan, in the valey ayens the temple of Phegor, in the lond of Seon, kyng of Ammorreis, that dwellide in Esebon, whom Moises killide. And the sones of Israel yeden out of Egipt, and weldiden `the lond of him,
lúc họ đang ở trong thung lũng gần Bết-phê-o bên bờ phía đông Sông Giô-đan. (Vùng đất này đối diện Bết Phê-o, là đất của Si-hôn, vua A-mô-rít. Nhưng Môi-se và người Ít-ra-ên đánh bại vua và dân của vua ở Hết-bôn khi họ ra khỏi Ai Cập.
47 and the lond of Og, kyng of Basan, twei kyngis of Ammoreis, that weren biyende Jordan, at the rysyng of the sunne;
Họ chiếm lấy lãnh thổ này và lãnh thổ của Óc, vua Ba-san, là hai vua A-mô-rít ở phía đông Giô-đan,
48 fro Aroer which is set on the brenke of the stronde of Arnon, `til to the hil of Seon, which is Hermon;
vùng đất này kéo dài từ A-rô-e, bên bờ Khe Ạt-nôn, cho đến Núi Si-ri-ôn, còn gọi là Núi Hẹt-môn,
49 thei weldiden al the pleyn biyende Jordan, at the eest coost, `til to the see of wildirnesse, and `til to the rootis of the hil of Phasga.
và tất cả miền đồng bằng bên bờ phía đông Sông Giô-đan, cho đến tận biển của đồng bằng, dưới triền núi Phích-ga.)
