Deuteronomy 11
1 Therfor loue thi Lord God, and kepe thou hise comaundementis and cerymonyes, domes and heestis, in al tyme.
Tu aimeras l’Éternel, ton Dieu, et tu observeras toujours ses préceptes, ses lois, ses ordonnances et ses commandements.
2 Knowe ye to day tho thingis whiche youre sones knowen not, `whiche sones sien not the doctryn of youre Lord God, hise grete dedis, and strong hond, and `arm holdun forth,
Reconnaissez aujourd’hui – ce que n’ont pu connaître et voir vos enfants – les châtiments de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, sa grandeur, sa main forte et son bras étendu,
3 myraclis and werkis, whiche he dide `in the myddis of Egipt to Farao, kyng, and to al `the lond of hym, and to al the oost of Egipcians,
ses signes et ses actes qu’il a accomplis au milieu de l’Égypte contre Pharaon, roi d’Égypte, et contre tout son pays.
4 and to horsis, and carris; hou the watris of the reed see hiliden hem, whanne thei pursueden you, and the Lord `dide awei hem `til in to `present dai;
Reconnaissez ce qu’il a fait à l’armée d’Égypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chars, comment il a fait couler sur eux les eaux de la mer Rouge, lorsqu’ils vous poursuivaient, et les a détruits pour toujours;
5 and whiche thingis the Lord dide to you in wildernesse, til ye camen to this place;
ce qu’il vous a fait dans le désert, jusqu’à votre arrivée en ce lieu;
6 and to Dathan and Abiron, `the sones of Heliab, that was `the sone of Ruben, whiche the erthe swolewide, whanne his mouth was openyd, with `the housis and tabernaclis, and al the catel `of hem which thei hadden, in the myddis of Israel.
ce qu’il a fait à Dathan et à Abiram, fils d’Éliab, fils de Ruben, comment la terre ouvrit sa bouche et les engloutit, avec leurs maisons et leurs tentes et tout ce qui était à leur suite, au milieu de tout Israël.
7 Youre iyen sien alle the grete werkis of the Lord,
Car vos yeux ont vu toutes les grandes choses que l’Éternel a faites.
8 whiche he dide, that ye kepe alle hise heestis whiche Y comaunde to dai to you, and that ye moun entre, and welde the lond,
Ainsi, vous observerez tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd’hui, afin que vous ayez la force de vous emparer du pays où vous allez passer pour en prendre possession,
9 to which ye schulen entre, and ye lyue therynne in myche time; which lond, flowynge with mylk and hony, the Lord bihiyte vndur an ooth to youre fadris and to `the seed of hem.
et afin que vous prolongiez vos jours dans le pays que l’Éternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, à eux et à leur postérité, pays où coulent le lait et le miel.
10 For the lond, to which thou schalt entre to welde, is not as the lond of Egipt, `out of which thou yedist, where whanne the seed is cast in the maner of gardyns, moist waters ben led;
Car le pays dont tu vas entrer en possession, n’est pas comme le pays d’Égypte, d’où vous êtes sortis, où tu jetais dans les champs ta semence et les arrosais avec ton pied comme un jardin potager.
11 but it is hilli, and feldi, and abidith reynes fro heuene,
Le pays que vous allez posséder est un pays de montagnes et de vallées, et qui boit les eaux de la pluie du ciel;
12 which lond thi Lord God biholdith, and hise iyen ben therynne, fro the bigynnyng of the yeer `til to the ende therof.
c’est un pays dont l’Éternel, ton Dieu, prend soin, et sur lequel l’Éternel, ton Dieu, a continuellement les yeux, du commencement à la fin de l’année.
13 Therfor if ye schulen obeie to myn heestis whiche Y comaunde to dai to you, that ye loue youre Lord God, and serue hym in al youre herte, and in al youre soule;
Si vous obéissez à mes commandements que je vous prescris aujourd’hui, si vous aimez l’Éternel, votre Dieu, et si vous le servez de tout votre cœur et de toute votre âme,
14 he schal yyue to youre lond reyn tymeful and late, that ye gadere wheete, and wyn, and oile,
je donnerai à votre pays la pluie en son temps, la pluie de la première et de l’arrière-saison, et tu recueilleras ton blé, ton moût et ton huile;
15 hey of the feeldis to feede beestis, that ye bothe ete and be fillid.
je mettrai aussi dans tes champs de l’herbe pour ton bétail, et tu mangeras et te rassasieras.
16 Be ye war, lest perauenture youre herte be disseyued, and ye go awei fro the Lord, and serue alien goddis, and worschipe hem;
Gardez-vous de laisser séduire votre cœur, de vous détourner, de servir d’autres dieux et de vous prosterner devant eux.
17 and the Lord be wrooth, and close heuene, and reynes come not doun, nether the erthe yyue his fruyt, and ye perische swiftli fro the beste lond which the Lord schal yyue to you.
La colère de l’Éternel s’enflammerait alors contre vous; il fermerait les cieux, et il n’y aurait point de pluie; la terre ne donnerait plus ses produits, et vous péririez promptement dans le bon pays que l’Éternel vous donne.
18 Putte ye thes wordis in youre hertes and soules, and honge ye `tho wordis for a signe in the hondis, and sette ye bitwixe youre iyen.
Mettez dans votre cœur et dans votre âme ces paroles que je vous dis. Vous les lierez comme un signe sur vos mains, et elles seront comme des fronteaux entre vos yeux.
19 Teche youre sones, that thei thenke on tho wordis, whanne thou sittist in thin hows, and goist in the weie, and lyggist doun, and risist.
Vous les enseignerez à vos enfants, et vous leur en parlerez quand tu seras dans ta maison, quand tu iras en voyage, quand tu te coucheras et quand tu te lèveras.
20 Thou schalt write tho wordis on the postis, and yatis of thin hous,
Tu les écriras sur les poteaux de ta maison et sur tes portes.
21 that the daies of thee and of thi sones be multiplied in the lond which the Lord swoor to thi fadris, that he schulde yyue to hem, as long as heuene is aboue erthe.
Et alors vos jours et les jours de vos enfants, dans le pays que l’Éternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, seront aussi nombreux que les jours des cieux le seront au-dessus de la terre.
22 For if ye kepen the heestis whiche Y comaunde to you, and ye do tho, that ye loue youre Lord God, and go in alle hise weies,
Car si vous observez tous ces commandements que je vous prescris, et si vous les mettez en pratique pour aimer l’Éternel, votre Dieu, pour marcher dans toutes ses voies et pour vous attacher à lui,
23 and cleue to hym, the Lord schal destrie alle these hethen men bifor youre face, and ye schulen welde tho folkis that ben grettere and strongere than ye.
l’Éternel chassera devant vous toutes ces nations, et vous vous rendrez maîtres de nations plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous.
24 Ech place which youre foot schal trede, schal be youre; fro the deseert, and fro the Liban, and fro the greet flood Eufrates `til to the west see, schulen be youre termes.
Tout lieu que foulera la plante de votre pied sera à vous: votre frontière s’étendra du désert au Liban, et du fleuve de l’Euphrate jusqu’à la mer occidentale.
25 Noon schal stonde ayens you; youre Lord God schal yiue youre outward drede and inward drede on ech lond which ye schulen trede, as he spak to you.
Nul ne tiendra contre vous. L’Éternel, votre Dieu, répandra, comme il vous l’a dit, la frayeur et la crainte de toi sur tout le pays où vous marcherez.
26 Lo! Y sette forth in youre siyt to day blissyng and cursyng;
Vois, je mets aujourd’hui devant vous la bénédiction et la malédiction:
27 blessyng, if ye obeien to the heestis of youre Lord God, whiche Y comaunde to you to dai;
la bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, que je vous prescris en ce jour;
28 cursyng, if ye heren not the heestis of youre Lord God, but goen awei fro the weie which Y schewe now to you, and goen after alien goddis whiche ye knowen not.
la malédiction, si vous n’obéissez pas aux commandements de l’Éternel, votre Dieu, et si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous prescris en ce jour, pour aller après d’autres dieux que vous ne connaissez point.
29 Sotheli whanne thi Lord God hath brouyt thee in to the lond, to which to enhabite thou goist, thou schalt sette blessyng on the hil Garisym, cursyng on the hil Hebal, whiche hillis ben biyende Jordan,
Et lorsque l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’aura fait entrer dans le pays dont tu vas prendre possession, tu prononceras la bénédiction sur la montagne de Garizim, et la malédiction sur la montagne d’Ébal.
30 aftir the weie that goith to the goyng doun of the sunne, in the lond of Cananey, that dwellith in the feeldi places ayens Galgala, which is bisidis the valey goynge and entrynge fer.
Ces montagnes ne sont-elles pas de l’autre côté du Jourdain, derrière le chemin de l’occident, au pays des Cananéens qui habitent dans la plaine vis-à-vis de Guilgal, près des chênes de Moré?
31 For ye schulen passe Jordan, that ye welde the lond which youre Lord God schal yyue to you, and that ye haue and welde that lond.
Car vous allez passer le Jourdain pour entrer en possession du pays que l’Éternel, votre Dieu, vous donne; vous le posséderez, et vous y habiterez.
32 Therfor se ye, `that ye fille the cerymonyes and domes, whiche I schal sette to dai in youre siyt.
Vous observerez et vous mettrez en pratique toutes les lois et les ordonnances que je vous prescris aujourd’hui.
