Deuteronomy 10
1 In that tyme the Lord seide to me, Hewe thou twei tablis of stoon to thee, as the formere weren; and stie thou to me `in to the hil. And thou schalt make an arke,
"En ce temps-là, l’Éternel me dit: "Taille toi-même deux tables de pierre pareilles aux premières, et viens me trouver sur la montagne; fais-toi aussi une arche de bois.
2 `ether a cofere, of tree, and Y schal write in the tablis, the wordis that weren in these tablis whiche thou brakist bifore; and thou schalt putte tho tablis in to the arke.
J’Écrirai sur ces tables les paroles qui étaient sur les premières que tu as brisées, et tu les déposeras dans l’arche."
3 Therfor Y made an ark of the trees of Sechim, and whanne Y hadde hewe twei tablis of stoon, at the licnesse of the formere tablis, Y stiede in to the hil, and hadde the tablis in the hondis.
Je fis une arche en bois de chitîm, je taillai deux tables de pierre, semblables aux précédentes; puis je montai sur la montagne, les deux tables à la main.
4 And he wroot in the tablis, bi that that he `hadde writun bifore, ten wordis, whiche the Lord spak to you in the hil, fro the myddis of the fyer, whanne the puple was gaderid, and he yaf the tablis to me.
Et l’Éternel grava sur les tables la même inscription, les dix paroles qu’il vous avait fait entendre sur la montagne, du milieu du feu, le jour de la convocation; puis l’Éternel me les remit.
5 And Y turnide ayen fro the hil, and cam doun, and puttide the tablis in to the arke which Y hadde maad, `whiche tablis ben there hidur to, as the Lord comaundide to me.
Je redescendis de la montagne, je déposai les tables dans l’arche que j’avais faite, et elles y sont restées, ainsi que l’Éternel me l’avait prescrit.
6 Forsothe the sones of Israel moueden tentis fro Beroth of the sones of Jachan in to Mosera, where Aaron was deed, and biried, for whom his sone Eleazar was set in preesthod.
(Or, les enfants d’Israël partirent de Beéroth-Benê-Yaakân pour aller à Mocêra: là est mort Aaron, là il a été enseveli, et son fils Eléazar l’a remplacé dans le sacerdoce.
7 Fro thennus thei camen in to Galgad; fro which place thei yeden forth, and settiden tentis in Jehabatha, in the lond of watris and of strondis.
De là, ils allèrent à Goudgoda, et de Goudgoda à Yotbatha, contrée abondante en cours d’eau.
8 In that tyme Y departide the lynage of Leuy, that it schulde bere the arke of boond of pees of the Lord, and schulde stonde bifor hym in seruyce, and schulde blesse in his name til in to present dai.
A cette même époque, l’Éternel distingua la tribu de Lévi, en la chargeant de porter l’arche de la divine alliance, de faire en permanence le service du Seigneur et de donner la bénédiction en son nom, comme elle l’a fait jusqu’à ce jour.
9 For which thing Leuy hadde not part, nether possession with hise brithren, for the Lord hym silf is his possessioun, as thi Lord God bihiyte to hym.
C’Est pourquoi Lévi n’a reçu part ni héritage avec ses frères: c’est Dieu qui est son héritage, ainsi que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, le lui a déclaré).
10 Forsothe Y stood in the hil as bifore, fourti daies and fourti niytis, and the Lord herde me also in this tyme, and nolde leese thee.
J’Étais donc resté sur la montagne, comme la première fois, quarante jours et quarante nuits; et l’Éternel m’exauça cette fois encore, il ne voulut pas t’exterminer,
11 And he seide to me, Go thou, and go bifor this puple, that it entre, and welde the lond which Y swoor to her fadris, that Y schulde yeue to hem.
et il me dit: "Va, dirige la marche de ce peuple, pour qu’il atteigne et conquière le pays que j’ai juré à leurs pères de leur donner."
12 And now, Israel, what axith thi Lord God of thee, no but that thou drede thi Lord, and go in hise weies, and that thou loue hym, and serue thi Lord God in al thin herte, and in al thi soule;
Et maintenant, ô Israël! Ce que l’Éternel, ton Dieu, te demande uniquement, c’est de révérer l’Éternel, ton Dieu, de suivre en tout ses voies, de l’aimer, de le servir de tout ton cœur et de toute ton âme,
13 and that thou kepe the comaundementis of thi Lord God, and the cerymonyes of hym, whiche Y comaunde to thee to dai, that it be wel to thee.
en observant les préceptes et les lois du Seigneur, que je t’impose aujourd’hui, pour devenir heureux.
14 Lo! heuene is of thi Lord God, and heuene of heuene; the erthe and alle thingis that ben ther ynne ben hise;
Vois, l’Éternel, ton Dieu, possède les cieux et les cieux des cieux, la terre et tout ce qu’elle renferme:
15 and netheles the Lord was glued to thi fadris, and louede hem, and he chees her seed after hem, and you of alle folkis, as it is preued to dai.
et pourtant, ce sont tes pères qu’à préférés l’Éternel, se complaisant en eux; et c’est leur postérité après eux, c’est vous qu’il a adoptés entre tous les peuples, comme vous le voyez aujourd’hui.
16 Therfor circumcide ye the prepucie, `ethir vnclennesse, of youre herte, and no more make ye harde youre nol.
Supprimez donc l’impureté de votre cœur, et cessez de roidir votre cou.
17 For youre Lord God hym silf is God of goddis, and Lord of lordis, `God greet, and miyti, and feerdful, which takith not persoone, nether yiftis.
Car l’Éternel, votre Dieu, c’est le Dieu des dieux et le maître des maîtres, Dieu souverain, puissant et redoutable, qui ne fait point acception de personnes, qui ne cède point à la corruption;
18 He makith doom to the fadirles, and modirles, and to the widewe; he loueth a pilgrym, and yyueth to hym lyiflode and clothing.
qui fait droit à l’orphelin et à la veuve; qui témoigne son amour à l’étranger, en lui assurant le pain et le vêtement.
19 And therfor `loue ye pilgryms, for also ye weren comelyngis in the lond of Egipt.
Vous aimerez l’étranger, vous qui fûtes étrangers dans le pays d’Egypte!
20 Thou schalt drede thi Lord God, and thou schalt serue hym aloone, and thou schalt cleue to hym, and thou schalt swere in his name.
C’Est l’Éternel, ton Dieu, que tu dois révérer, c’est lui que tu dois servir; attache-toi à lui seul, ne jure que par son nom.
21 He is thi preisyng, and thi God, that made to thee these grete dedis, and ferdful, whiche thin iyen siyen.
Il est ton honneur, il est ton Dieu, celui qui a fait pour toi ces grandes et prodigieuses choses que tes yeux ont vues!
22 In seuenti men thi fadris yeden doun in to Egipt, and lo! now thi Lord God hath multiplied thee as the sterris of heuene.
Tes ancêtres étaient soixante-dix âmes quand ils vinrent en Egypte; et maintenant l’Éternel, ton Dieu, t’a multiplié comme les étoiles du ciel."
