2 Samuel 1
1 Forsothe it was doon, after that Saul was deed, that Dauid turnede ayen fro the sleyng of Amalech, and dwellide twei daies in Sichelech.
Saül était mort quand David revint de son expédition contre Amalec, il resta deux jours à Sécelac.
2 Forsothe in the thridde dai a man apperide, comynge fro the castels of Saul with the cloth to-rent, and his heed spreynt with dust; and as he cam to Dauid, he felde on his face, and worschipide.
Et le troisième jour, voilà qu'un homme arriva du camp d'Israël, les vêtements déchirés, la tête couverte de cendres; en entrant devant David, il tomba la face contre terre et il l'adora.
3 And Dauid seide to hym, Fro whennus comest thou? Which seide to Dauid, Y fledde fro the castels of Israel.
D'où viens-tu? lui dit David; il répondit: Du camp d'Israël; j'ai pu m'échapper.
4 And Dauid seide to hym, What is the word which is doon; schewe thou to me. And he seide, The puple fledde fro the batel, and many of the puple felden, and ben deed; but also Saul, and Jonathas, his sonne, perischyden.
Et David lui dit: Qu'y a-t-il? Parle; et il répondit: Le peuple s'est enfui du champ de bataille; un grand nombre a péri, Saül et Jonathan sont morts,
5 And Dauid seide to the yong man, that telde to hym, Wherof woost thou, that Saul is deed, and Jonathas, his sonne?
Et David dit au jeune homme qui lui apportait ces nouvelles: Comment sais- tu que Saül et son fils Jonathan ont péri?
6 And the yong man seide, that telde to hym, Bi hap Y cam in to the hil of Gelboe, and Saul lenyde on his spere; forsothe charis and knyytis neiyiden to hym;
Le jeune homme reprit: J'étais par hasard en la montagne de Gelboé, et voilà que Saül était appuyé sur sa javeline, et les chars et les chefs des cavaliers couraient sur lui.
7 and he turnede bihynde his bak, `and siy me, and clepide. To whom whanne Y hadde answeride, Y am present; he seide to me, Who art thou?
Or, ayant jeté derrière lui ses regards, il m'aperçut, il m'appela, et je lui dis: Me voici.
8 And Y seide to hym, Y am a man of Amalech.
Qui es-tu? demanda-t-il, je répondis: Je suis un Amalécite.
9 And he spak to me, Stonde thou on me, and sle me; for angwischis holden me, and yit al my lijf is in me.
Et il me dit: Monte sur moi et tue-moi, car d'horribles ténèbres m'arrêtent, et la vie en moi est tout entière.
10 And Y stood on hym, and Y killide hym; for Y wiste that he myyte not lyue aftir the fallyng; and Y took the diademe, that was in his heed, and the bye fro his arm, and Y brouyte hidur to thee, my lord.
Et je montai sur lui et je le tuai; car je voyais bien qu'il ne survivrait pas à sa chute. Ensuite, j'ai pris, sur sa tête, la couronne; autour de son bras, le bracelet, et je les ai apportés ici à mon maître.
11 Forsothe Dauid took and to-rente hise clothis, and the men that weren with hym;
Et David prit à deux mains ses vêtements et il les déchira, et tous les hommes de sa suite déchirèrent leurs vêtements.
12 and thei weiliden, and wepten, and fastiden `til to euentid, on Saul, and Jonathas, his sone, and on the puple of the Lord, and on the hows of Israel, for thei hadden feld bi swerd.
Puis, ils se lamentèrent, ils jeûnèrent jusqu'au soir, ils pleurèrent sur Saül, sur Jonathan, sur le peuple de Juda et sur la maison d'Israël, parce qu'ils avaient été frappés par l'épée.
13 And Dauid seide to the yong man, that telde to him, Of whennus art thou? And he answeride, Y am the sone of a man comelyng, of a man of Amalech.
Et David dit au jeune homme qui lui avait apporté ces nouvelles: D'où es- tu? il répondit: Je suis fils d'un colon amalécite.
14 And Dauid seide to him, Whi dreddist thou not to sende thine hond, that thou schuldist sle the crist of the Lord?
Comment, lui dit David, n'as-tu pas eu crainte de lever la main pour tuer l'oint du Seigneur!
15 And Dauid clepide oon of hise children, and seide, Go thou, and falle on hym. Which smoot that yong man, and he was deed.
Et David ayant appelé l'un de ses serviteurs, lui dit; Approche, et tombe sur lui. Le serviteur frappa donc l'Amalécite, et il le tua.
16 And Dauid seide to hym, Thi blood be on thin heed; for thi mouth spak ayens thee, and seide, Y killide the crist of the Lord.
Et David dit: Que ton sang retombe sur ta tête; car c'est ta bouche qui a porté témoignage contre toi, quand tu as dit: J'ai tué l'oint du Seigneur.
17 Forsooth Dauid biweilide sych a weilyng on Saul, and on Jonathas, his sone;
Alors, David fit cette lamentation sur Saül et sur Jonathan, son fils.
18 and comaundide, that thei schulden teche the sones of Juda weilyng, as it is writun in the Book of Just Men. And Dauid seyde, Israel, biholde thou, for these men that ben deed, woundid on thin hiye placis;
Et il commanda qu'on l'apprit aux fils de Juda, et elle est écrite au livre du Juste.
19 the noble men of Israel ben slayn on thin hillis.
Considère, Israël, ceux de tes enfants qui sont morts en tes montagnes; comment sont tombés les puissants!
20 Hou felden stronge men? nyle ye telle in Geth, nether telle ye in the weilottis of Ascolon; lest perauenture the douytris of Filisteis be glad, lest the douytris of vncircumcidid men `be glad.
Ne l'annoncez pas dans Geth, ne le racontez pas dans les rues d'Ascalon, de peur que les filles des Philistins ne se réjouissent, de peur que les filles des incirconcis ne triomphent.
21 Hillis of Gelboe, neither dew nethir reyn come on you, nether the feeldis of firste fruytis be; for the scheeld of stronge men was cast awey there, the scheeld of Saul, as `if he were not anoyntid with oile.
Montagnes de Gelboé, que la rosée, que les pluies du ciel ne descendent plus sur vous, que vos champs ne donnent plus de prémices, car c'est là que le bouclier des vaillants a perdu sa gloire. Le bouclier de Saül n'était pas oint avec de l'huile;
22 Of the blood of slayn men, of the fatnesse of strong men, the arewe of Jonathas yede neuer abak, and the swerd of Saul turnede not ayen void.
Le sang des blessés, la graisse des puissants, ne manquaient jamais à l'arc de Jonathan, ni à l'épée de Saül, quand ils revenaient du combat.
23 Saul and Jonathas amyable, and fair in her lijf, weren not departid also in deeth; thei weren swiftere than eglis, strongere than liouns.
Saül et Jonathan, bien-aimés et gracieux, vous n'êtes point séparés; nobles dans la vie, nobles dans la mort, ils ne sont point séparés; ils étaient plus agiles que l'aigle, plus forts que le lion.
24 Douytris of Israel, wepe ye on Saul, that clothide you with fyn reed colourid in delicis, that yaf goldun ournementis to youre atyre.
Filles d'Israël, pleurez sur Saül qui vous revêtait de robes d'écarlate, et ornait d'or votre parure.
25 Hou `felden doun stronge men in batel?
Comment sont tombés les puissants au milieu de la bataille? Et Jonathan et ceux qui ont péri sur vos montagnes?
26 Jonathas was slayn in the hiye places. Y make sorewe on thee, my brother Jonathas, ful fair, `and amyable more than the loue of wymmen; as a modir loueth oon aloone sone, so Y louyde thee.
Je pleure sur toi, Jonathan mon frère; qu'à mes yeux tu étais beau! ton amitié pour moi me ravissait plus que l'amour des femmes.
27 Hou therfor `felden doun stronge men, and armeris of batel perischide?
Comment sont tombés les puissants? comment les armes de guerre ont-elles été brisées?
