2 Samuel 23

1 Forsothe these ben the laste wordis, whiche Dauid, the sone of Ysai, seide. The man seide, to whom it is ordeyned of Crist, of the God of Jacob, the noble salm makere of Israel;

«Oracolo di Davide, figlio di Iesse, oracolo dell'uomo che l'Altissimo ha innalzato, del consacrato del Dio di Giacobbe, del soave cantore d'Israele. Queste sono le ultime parole di Davide:

2 The spiryt of the Lord spak bi me, and his word bi my tunge.

Lo spirito del Signore parla in me, la sua parola è sulla mia lingua;

3 Dauid seide, God of Israel spak to me, the stronge of Israel, the `iust Lord of men, `is Lord in the drede of God.

il Dio di Giacobbe ha parlato, la rupe d'Israele mi ha detto: Chi governa gli uomini ed è giusto, chi governa con timore di Dio,

4 As the liyt of the morewtid, whanne the sunne risith eerli, is briyt with out cloudis; and as an erbe cometh forth of the erthe bi reynes.

è come la luce del mattino al sorgere del sole, in un mattino senza nubi, che fa scintillare dopo la pioggia i germogli della terra.

5 And myn hows is not so greet anentis God, that he schulde make with me euerlastynge couenaunt, stidefast and maad strong in alle thingis; for al myn helthe hangith of him, and al the wille `that is, al my desir, goith in to hym, and no thing is therof, that makith not fruyt.

Così è stabile la mia casa davanti a Dio, perché ha stabilito con me un'alleanza eterna, in tutto regolata e garantita. Non farà dunque germogliare quanto mi salva e quanto mi diletta?

6 Forsothe alle trespassouris schulen be drawun out as thornes, that ben not takun with hondis.

Ma gli scellerati sono come spine, che si buttano via a fasci e non si prendono con la mano;

7 And if ony man wole touche tho, he schal be armed with irun, and with tre formed in to spere; and the thornes schulen be kyndlid, and schulen be brent `til to nouyt.

chi le tocca usa un ferro o un'asta di lancia e si bruciano al completo nel fuoco».

8 These ben the names of the stronge men of Dauid. Dauid sittith in the chaier, the wiseste prince among thre; he is as a moost tendir worm of tree, that killide eiyte hundrid with o fersnesse.

Questi sono i nomi dei prodi di Davide: Is-Bàal il Cacmonita, capo dei Tre. Egli impugnò la lancia contro ottocento uomini e li trafisse in un solo scontro.

9 Aftir hym was Eleazar, the sone of his fadirs brother Abohi; among thre stronge men, that weren with Dauid, whanne thei seiden schenschip to Filisteis, and weren gaderid thidir in to batel.

Dopo di lui veniva Eleàzaro figlio di Dodò l'Acochita, uno dei tre prodi che erano con Davide, quando sfidarono i Filistei schierati in battaglia, mentre gli Israeliti si ritiravano sulle alture.

10 And whanne the men of Israel hadden stied, he stood, and smoot Filisties, til his hond failide, and was starke with the swerd. And the Lord made greet helthe in that dai; and the puple that fledde turnedc ayen to drawe awei the spuylis of slayn men.

Egli si alzò, percosse i Filistei, finché la sua mano, sfinita, rimase attaccata alla spada. Il Signore concesse in quel giorno una grande vittoria e il popolo seguì Eleàzaro soltanto per spogliare i cadaveri.

11 And aftir hym was Semma, the sone of Age, of Arari. And Filisteis weren gaderid in the stacioun; forsothe there was a feeld ful of lente; and whanne the puple fledde fro the face of Filisteis,

Dopo di lui veniva Sammà figlio di Aghè, l'Ararita. I Filistei erano radunati a Lechì; in quel luogo vi era un campo pieno di lenticchie: mentre il popolo fuggiva dinanzi ai Filistei,

12 he stood in the myddis of the feeld, and bihelde it; and he smoot Filisteis, and the Lord made greet helthe.

Sammà si piantò in mezzo al campo, lo difese e sconfisse i Filistei. E il Signore concesse una grande vittoria.

13 Also and thre men yeden doun bifore, that weren princes among thretti, and camen to Dauid in the tyme of reep in to the denne of Odollam. Forsothe the castels of Filisteis weren set in the valei of giauntis.

Tre dei Trenta scesero al tempo della mietitura e vennero da Davide nella caverna di Adullàm, mentre una schiera di Filistei era accampata nella valle dei Rèfaim.

14 And Dauid was in a strong hold; sotheli the stacioun of Filisteis was thanne in Bethleem.

Davide era allora nella fortezza e c'era un appostamento di Filistei a Betlemme.

15 Therfor Dauid desiride water of the lake, and seide, If ony man wolde yyue to me drynk of watir of the cisterne, which is in Bethleem, bisidis the yate.

Davide espresse un desiderio e disse: «Se qualcuno mi desse da bere l'acqua del pozzo che è vicino alla porta di Betlemme!».

16 Therfor thre stronge men braken in to the castels of Filisteis, and drowen watir of the cisterne of Bethleem, that was bisidis the yate, and brouyten to Dauid; and he nolde drinke,

I tre prodi si aprirono un varco attraverso il campo filisteo, attinsero l'acqua dal pozzo di Betlemme, vicino alla porta, la presero e la presentarono a Davide; il quale però non ne volle bere, ma la sparse davanti al Signore,

17 but offride it to the Lord, and seide, The Lord be merciful to me, that Y do not this; whether Y schal drynke the blood of these men, that yeden forth, and the perel of soulis? Therfor he nolde drynke. Thre strongeste men diden thes thingis.

dicendo: «Lungi da me, Signore, il fare tal cosa! E' il sangue di questi uomini, che sono andati là a rischio della loro vita!». Non la volle bere. Questo fecero quei tre prodi.

18 Also Abisay, brother of Joab, the sone of Saruye, was prince of thre; he it is that reiside his schaft ayens thre hundrid men, whiche he killide; `he was nemid among thre,

Abisài, fratello di Ioab, figlio di Zeruià, fu il capo dei Trenta. Egli impugnò la lancia contro trecento uomini e li trafisse; si acquistò fama fra i trenta.

19 and was the noblere among thre, and he was the prince of hem; but he cam not to the thre firste men.

Fu il più glorioso dei Trenta e perciò fu fatto loro capo, ma non giunse alla pari dei Tre.

20 And Banaye, the sone of Joiada, strongeste man of grete werkis, of Capseel, he smoot twei liouns of Moab, `that is, twei knyytis hardi as liouns; and he yede doun, and smoot a lioun in the myddil cisterne in the daies of snow.

Poi veniva Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, uomo valoroso, celebre per le sue prodezze, oriundo da Cabseèl. Egli uccise i due figli di Arièl, di Moab. Scese anche in mezzo a una cisterna, dove uccise un leone, in un giorno di neve.

21 Also he killide a man of Egipt, a man worthi of spectacle, hauynge a spere in the hond; therfor whanne he hadde come doun with a yerde to that man, bi miyt he wrooth out the spere fro the hond of the man of Egipt, and killide hym with his owne spere.

Uccise anche un Egiziano, uomo d'alta statura, che teneva una lancia in mano; Benaià gli scese contro con un bastone, strappò di mano all'Egiziano la lancia e lo uccise con la lancia di lui.

22 Banaye, sone of Joiada, dide these thingis;

Questo fece Benaià figlio di Ioiadà, e si acquistò fama tra i trenta prodi.

23 and he was nemyed among thre stronge men, that weren among the thretti noblere men; netheles he cam not til to the thre. And Dauid made hym a counselour of priuyte to hym silf.

Fu il più illustre dei Trenta, ma non giunse alla pari dei Tre. Davide lo ammise nel suo consiglio.

24 Asahel, the brother of Joab, was among thretti men; Eleanan, the sone of his fadris brother, of Bethleem; Semma, of Arari;

Poi vi erano Asaèl fratello di Ioab, uno dei Trenta; Elcanàn figlio di Dodò, di Betlemme.

25 Elcha, of Arodi; Helas, of Phelti;

Sammà di Caròd; Elikà di Caròd;

26 Hira, sone of Aches, of Thecua; Abiezer, of Amatoth;

Cèles di Pelèt; Ira figlio di Ikkès, di Tekòa;

27 Mobannoy, of Cosathi; Selmon, of Achotes;

Abièzer di Anatot; Mebunnài di Cusà;

28 Macharai, of Nethopath;

Zalmòn di Acòach; Maharai di Netofà;

29 Heled, the sone of Baana, and he was of Netophath; Hiray, sone of Rabai, of Gebeeth, of the sones of Beniamyn; Banay, of Effrata;

Chèleb figlio di Baanà, di Netofà; Ittài figlio di Ribài, di Gàbaa di Beniamino; Benaià di Piratòn;

30 Hedday, of the stronde of Gaas;

Iddài di Nahale-Gaàs;

31 Abiadon, of Arbath; Asmaneth, of Berromy;

Abi-Albòn di Arbàt; Azmàvet di Bacurìm;

32 Eliaba, of Sabony; sones of Assen, Jonathan, and Jasan; Semma, of Herodi;

Eliacbà di Saalbòn; Iasèn di Gun;

33 Hayam, sone of Sarai, of Zaroth;

Giònata figlio di Sammà, di Aràr; Achiàm figlio di Saràr, di Afàr;

34 Eliphelech, sone of Saalbai, the sone of Maachati; Heliam, sone of Achitofel, of Gilo;

Elifèlet figlio di Acasbài, il Maacatita; Eliàm figlio di Achitòfel, di Ghilo;

35 Esrai, of Carmele; Pharai, of Arbi;

Chesrài del Carmelo; Paarài di Aràb;

36 Ygaal, sone of Nathan, of Soba;

Igàl figlio di Natàn, da Zobà; Banì di Gad;

37 Bonny, of Gaddi; Silech, of Ammony; Naarai, of Beroth, the squyer of Joab, the sone of Saruye;

Zèlek l'Ammonita; Nacrai da Beeròt, scudiero di Ioab, figlio di Zeruià;

38 Haray, of Jethri; Gareb, and he was of Gethri;

Irà di Ièter; Garèb di Ièter;

39 Vrye, of Ethei; alle weren seuene and thretti men.
