1 Yn the eiytenthe yeer of kyng Jeroboam Abia regnede on Juda;
In year eight-teen of the king Jeroboam and he became king Abijah over Judah.
2 he regnede thre yeer in Jerusalem; and the name of hise modir was Mychaie, the douyter of Vriel of Gabaa. And batel was bitwixe Abia and Jeroboam.
Three years he reigned in Jerusalem and [the] name of mother his [was] Micaiah [the] daughter of Uriel from Gibeah and war it was between Abijah and between Jeroboam.
3 And whanne Abia hadde bigunne batel, and hadde most chyualrouse men, and four hundrid thousynde of chosun men, Jeroboam arayede ayenward the scheltroun with eiyte hundrid thousynde of men, and thei weren chosun men and most stronge to batels.
And he bound Abijah the battle with an army of mighty [men] of war four hundred thousand man chosen. And Jeroboam he drew up in formation with him battle with eight hundred thousand man chosen mighty of strength.
4 Therfor Abia stood on the hil Semeron, that was in Effraym, and seide, Here thou, Jeroboam and al Israel;
And he stood Abijah on [the] mountain of Zemaraim which [is] in [the] hill country of Ephraim and he said listen to me O Jeroboam and all Israel.
5 whether ye knowen not, that the Lord God of Israel yaf to Dauid the rewme on Israel with outen ende, to hym and to hise sones in to the couenaunt of salt, `that is, stidefast and stable?
¿ Not [belong] to you [does] to know that Yahweh - [the] God of Israel he has given kingship to David over Israel for ever to him and to descendants his a covenant of salt.
6 And Jeroboam, the sone of Nabath, the seruaunt of Salomon, sone of Dauid, roos, and rebellide ayens his lord.
And he arose Jeroboam [the] son of Nebat [the] servant of Solomon [the] son of David and he rebelled on master his.
7 And most veyn men and the sones of Belial weren gaderid to hym, and thei hadden myyt ayens Roboam, the sone of Salomon. Certis Roboam was buystuouse, `ether fonne, and of feerdful herte, and myyte not ayenstonde hem.
And they gathered to him men empty sons of worthlessness and they proved themselves strong over Rehoboam [the] son of Solomon and Rehoboam he was a young man and weak of heart and not he showed himself strong before them.
8 Now therfor ye seien, that ye moun ayenstonde the rewme of the Lord, which he holdith in possessioun bi the sones of Dauid; and ye han a greet multitude of puple, and goldun caluys, whiche Jeroboam made in to goddis to you.
And now - you [are] saying to show yourselves strong before [the] kingdom of Yahweh in [the] hand of [the] descendants of David and you [are] a multitude great and [are] with you calves of gold which he made for you Jeroboam to gods.
9 And ye han caste a wei the preestis of the Lord, the sones of Aaron, and dekenes, and ye han maad preestis to you, as alle the puplis of londis han preestis; who euer cometh and halewith his hond in a bole, in oxis, and in seuene wetheris, anoon he is maad preest of hem that ben not goddis.
¿ Not have you driven out [the] priests of Yahweh [the] descendants of Aaron and the Levites and you have appointed for yourselves priests like [the] peoples of the lands every [one who] comes to fill own hand his with a young bull a young one of cattle and rams seven and he will become a priest to not gods.
10 But oure Lord is God, whom we forsaken not; and preestis of the sones of Aaron mynystren to the Lord, and dekenes ben in her ordre;
And we Yahweh [is] God our and not we have forsaken him and [we are] priests serving Yahweh [the] descendants of Aaron and the Levites [are] in the work.
11 and thei offren brent sacrifices to the Lord bi ech dai in the morewtid and euentid, and encense maad bi comaundementis of the lawe; and loues ben set forth in a moost clene boord; and at vs is the goldun candilstik and his lanterne, that it be teendid euere at euentid; forsothe we kepen the comaundementis of our God, whom ye han forsake.
And [are] making smoke to Yahweh burnt offerings in the morning in the morning and in the evening in the evening and incense of perfume and [the] row of bread on the table clean and [the] lampstand of gold and lamps its to burn in the evening in the evening for [are] keeping we [the] duty of Yahweh God our and you you have forsaken him.
12 Therfor God is duyk in oure oost, and hise preestis, that trumpen and sownen ayens you; nyle ye, sones of Israel, fiyte ayens the Lord God of youre fadris, for it spedith not to you.
And here! [is] with us at the head God - and priests his and [the] trumpets of the alarm to sound [the] battle signal on you O people of Israel may not you do battle with Yahweh [the] God of ancestors your for not you will succeed.
13 While he spak these thingis, Jeroboam made redi tresouns bihynde; and whanne he stood euene ayens the enemyes, he cumpasside with his oost Juda vnwitynge.
And Jeroboam he had caused to go round the ambush to come from behind them and they were to front of Judah and the ambush [was] from behind them.
14 And Juda bihelde, and siy batel neiy euene ayens, and bihynde the bak; and he criede to the Lord, and preestis bigunnen for to trumpe.
And they turned Judah and there! [was] to them the battle before and behind and they cried out to Yahweh and the priests ([were] blowing a trumpet *Q(k)*) on trumpets.
15 And alle the men of Juda crieden, and, lo! while thei crieden, God made aferd Jeroboam and al Israel, that stood euen ayens Juda and Abia.
And they sounded [the] battle signal [the] man of Judah and it was when sounded [the] battle signal [the] man of Judah and God he defeated Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
16 And the men of Israel fledden fro Juda, and God bitook hem in to the hondis of men of Juda.
And they fled [the] people of Israel from before Judah and he gave them God in hand their.
17 Therfor Abia and his puple smoot hem with a greet wounde, and there felden doun of hem fyue hundrid thousynde of stronge men woundid.
And they struck down among them Abijah and people his a striking great and they fell slain of Israel five hundred thousand man chosen.
18 And the sones of Israel weren maad lowe in that tyme, and the sones of Juda weren coumfortid ful greetli, for thei hadden hopid in the Lord God of her fadris.
And they were humbled [the] people of Israel at the time that and they were strong [the] people of Judah for they depended on Yahweh [the] God of ancestors their.
19 Forsothe Abia pursuede Jeroboam fleynge, and took hise cytees, Bethel and hise vilagis, and Jesana with hise vilagis, and Ephron and hise vilagis;
And he pursued Abijah after Jeroboam and he captured from him cities Beth-el and daughters its and Jeshanah and daughters its and (Ephrayin *Q(K)*) and daughters its.
20 and Jeroboam miyte no more ayenstonde in the daies of Abia, whom the Lord smoot, and he was deed.
And not he retained [the] strength of Jeroboam again in [the] days of Abijah and he struck him Yahweh and he died.
21 Therfor Abia, whanne his empire was coumforted, took fourtene wyues, and he gendride two and twenti sones, and sixtene douytris.
And he strengthened himself Abijah and he took for himself wives four-teen and he fathered twenty and two sons and six-teen daughters.
22 The residue of wordis of Abia and of his weyes and werkis, ben writun ful diligentli in the book of Abdo, the profete.
And [the] rest of [the] matters of Abijah and ways his and words his [are] written in [the] record of the prophet Iddo.
