1 Timothy 4
1 But the spirit seith opynli, that in the laste tymes summen schulen departe fro the feith, yyuynge tent to spiritis of errour, and to techingis of deuelis; that speken leesing in ipocrisie,
Doch de Geest zegt duidelijk, dat in de laatste tijden sommigen zullen afvallen van het geloof, zich begevende tot verleidende geesten, en leringen der duivelen,
2 and haue her conscience corrupt,
Door geveinsdheid der leugensprekers, hebbende hun eigen geweten als met een brandijzer toegeschroeid;
3 forbedinge to be weddid, to absteyne fro metis, whiche God made to take with doyng of thankingis, to feithful men, and hem that han knowe the treuthe.
Verbiedende te huwelijken, gebiedende van spijzen te onthouden, die God geschapen heeft, tot nuttiging met dankzegging, voor de gelovigen, en die de waarheid hebben bekend.
4 For ech creature of God is good, and no thing is to be cast awei, which is takun with doyng of thankyngis;
Want alle schepsel Gods is goed, en er is niets verwerpelijk, met dankzegging genomen zijnde;
5 for it is halewid bi the word of God, and bi preyer.
Want het wordt geheiligd door het Woord van God, en door het gebed.
6 Thou puttynge forth these thingis to britheren, schalt be a good mynystre of Crist Jhesu; nurschid with wordis of feith and of good doctryne, which thou hast gete.
Als gij deze dingen den broederen voorstelt, zo zult gij een goed dienaar van Jezus Christus zijn, opgevoed in de woorden des geloofs en der goede leer, welke gij achtervolgd hebt.
7 But eschewe thou vncouenable fablis, and elde wymmenus fablis; haunte thi silf to pitee.
Maar verwerp de ongoddelijke en oudwijfse fabelen; en oefen uzelven tot godzaligheid.
8 For bodili exercitation is profitable to litle thing; but pitee is profitable to alle thingis, that hath a biheest of lijf that now is, and that is to come.
Want de lichamelijke oefening is tot weinig nut; maar de godzaligheid is tot alle dingen nut, hebbende de belofte des tegenwoordigen en des toekomenden levens.
9 A trewe word, and worthi al acceptacioun.
Dit is een getrouw woord, en alle aanneming waardig.
10 And in this thing we trauelen, and ben cursid, for we hopen in lyuyng God, that is sauyour of alle men, moost of feithful men.
Want hiertoe arbeiden wij ook, en worden versmaad, omdat wij gehoopt hebben op den levenden God, Die een Behouder is aller mensen, maar allermeest der gelovigen.
11 Comaunde thou this thing, and teche.
Beveel deze dingen, en leer ze.
12 No man dispise thi yongthe, but be thou ensaumple of feithful men in word, in lyuyng, in charite, in feith, in chastite.
Niemand verachte uw jonkheid, maar zijt een voorbeeld der gelovigen in woord, in wandel, in liefde, in den geest, in geloof, in reinheid.
13 Tyl Y come, take tent to redyng, to exortacioun and teching.
Houd aan in het lezen, in het vermanen, in het leren, totdat ik kome.
14 Nyle thou litil charge the grace which is in thee, that is youun to thee bi profecie, with putting on of the hondis of preesthod.
Verzuim de gave niet, die in u is, die u gegeven is door de profetie, met oplegging der handen des ouderlingschaps.
15 Thenke thou these thingis, in these be thou, that thi profiting be schewid to alle men.
Bedenk deze dingen, wees hierin bezig, opdat uw toenemen openbaar zij in alles.
16 Take tent to thi silf and to doctryn; be bisi in hem. For thou doynge these thingis, schalt `make bothe thi silf saaf, and hem that heren thee.
Heb acht op uzelven en op de leer; volhard daarin; want dat doende, zult gij en uzelven behouden, en die u horen.
