1 Samuel 21
1 Forsothe Dauid cam in to Nobe to Achimelech preest; and Achymelech wondrid, for Dauid `hadde come; and he seide to Dauid, Whi art thou aloone, and no man is with thee?
Et David vint à Nob, chez Ahimélech, le Prêtre; et Ahimélech accourut au devant de David et lui dit: Pourquoi es-tu seul, sans personne avec toi?
2 And Dauid seide to Achymelech preest, The kyng comaundide to me a word, and seide, No man wite the thing, for which thou art sent fro me, and what maner comaundementis Y yaf to thee; for Y seide also to children, that thei schulden go in to that `and that place;
Et David répondit au Prêtre Ahimélech: Le Roi m'a chargé d'une affaire et m'a dit: Personne ne doit rien savoir de l'affaire pour laquelle je te dépêche, non plus que des instructions que je t'ai données. Et j'ai marqué aux gens de ma suite un certain lieu pour rendez-vous.
3 now therfor if thou hast ony thing at hond, ether fyue looues, yyue thou to me, ether what euer thing thou fyndist.
Et maintenant ce que tu as sous la main, donne-le moi, cinq pains ou ce qui se trouvera.
4 And the preest answeride to Dauid, and seide to hym, Y haue `not lewid, `that is, comyn, looues at hoond, but oneli hooli breed; whether the children ben clene, and moost of wymmen?
Et le Prêtre répondit à David et lui dit: Je n'ai pas sous la main de pain ordinaire; il n'y a que du pain sacré; si tes gens s'étaient seulement abstenus de femmes!
5 And Dauid answeride to the preest, and seide to hym, And sotheli if it is doon of wymmen, we absteyneden vs fro yistirdai and the thridde dai ago, whanne we yeden out, and the `vessels, that is, bodies, of the children weren cleene; forsothe this weie is defoulyd, but also that schal be halewid to dai in the vessels.
Et David répondit au Prêtre et lui dit: Ce qui est certain, c'est que depuis nombre de jours tout accès auprès des femmes nous est fermé, et à mon départ mes gens avaient leurs personnes en état de sainteté, et l'usage profane que nous voulons faire d'une chose sacrée, sera aujourd'hui sanctifié par l'état de nos personnes.
6 Therfor the preest yaf to hym halewid breed, for noon other breed was there, no but oneli looues of settyng forth, that weren takun awey fro the face of the Lord, that hoote looues schulen be set.
Alors le Prêtre lui remit le pain sacré, car il n'y avait là pas d'autre pain que le pain de présentation, qu'on avait enlevé de devant l'Éternel pour substituer au moment même du pain chaud à celui qu'on ôtait.
7 Forsothe sum man of the seruauntis of Saul was there with ynne in the tabernacle of the Lord; and his name was Doech of Ydumee, the myytiest of the scheepherdis, `that is, iugis, of Saul.
[Or là se trouvait en ce jour un homme d'entre les serviteurs de Saül, séquestré devant l'Éternel; il se nommait Doëg, était Iduméen et grand-maître des bergers de Saül].
8 Forsothe Dauid seide to Achymelech, If thou hast `here at hond spere, ether swerd, yyue to me; for Y took not with me my swerd and myn armeris; for the `word of the kyng constreynede me.
Et David dit à Ahimélech: N'as-tu pas à ta portée une pique ou une épée? Car je n'ai pris avec moi ni mon épée ni mon équipement, car la commission du Roi était pressante.
9 And the preest seide, Lo! here the swerd of Goliath Filistei, whom thou killidst in the valey of Terebynte, is wlappid in a cloth aftir ephoth; if thou wolt take this, take thou; for here is noon other outakun that. And Dauid seide, Noon other is lijk this, yyue thou it to me.
Et le Prêtre dit: L'épée de Goliath, le Philistin, que tu as fait tomber sous tes coups dans la vallée des Térébinthes, voici, est enveloppée dans une toile derrière l'Ephod; si tu veux la prendre prends-là; car ici il n'y en a pas d'autre que celle-là. Et David dit: Elle n'a pas sa pareille; donne-la moi.
10 Therfor Dauid roos, `and fledde in that dai fro the face of Saul, and cam to Achis, the kyng of Geth.
Et David se remit en route, continuant le jour même à fuir devant Saül, et il arriva chez Achis, Roi de Gath.
11 And the seruauntis of Achis seiden to hym, whanne thei hadden seyn Dauid, Whether this is not Dauid, kyng of the lond? Whether thei sungen not to hym bi queeris, and seiden, Saul smoot a thousynde, and Dauid smoot ten thousynde?
Et les serviteurs d'Achis disaient de lui: N'est-ce pas David, le Roi du pays? N'est-ce pas à lui que dans les chœurs on chantait ces paroles: Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille!
12 Sotheli Dauid puttide these wordis `in his herte, and he dredde greetli of the face of Achis, kyng of Geth.
Et ces discours firent impression sur le cœur de David, qui prit une grande peur d'Achis, Roi de Gath.
13 And Dauid chaungide his mouth bifor Achis, and felde doun bitwixe her hondis, and he hurtlide ayens the doris of the yate, and his drauelis, `that is, spotelis, flowiden doun in to the beerd.
Et il contrefit l'insensé devant eux, et il se démenait comme un furieux entre leurs mains, et il grattait les battants de la porte et laissait couler sa salive dans sa barbe.
14 And Achis seide to hise seruauntis, Seen ye the wood man? why brouyten ye hym to me?
Alors Achis dit à ses serviteurs: Voici, vous voyez que cet homme est hors de sens; pourquoi me l'amenez-vous?
15 whether wood men failen to vs? whi han ye brouyt in hym, that he schulde be wood, while Y am present? Delyuere ye hym fro hennus, lest he entre in to myn hows.
Manqué-je de fous, que vous m'amenez celui-ci pour m'exposer à ses accès? Doit-il entrer dans ma maison?
