1 Samuel 21
1 Forsothe Dauid cam in to Nobe to Achimelech preest; and Achymelech wondrid, for Dauid `hadde come; and he seide to Dauid, Whi art thou aloone, and no man is with thee?
Et David vint à Nob vers Achimélec, le sacrificateur; et Achimélec, tout effrayé, courut au-devant de David, et lui dit: D'où vient que tu es seul, et qu'il n'y a personne avec toi?
2 And Dauid seide to Achymelech preest, The kyng comaundide to me a word, and seide, No man wite the thing, for which thou art sent fro me, and what maner comaundementis Y yaf to thee; for Y seide also to children, that thei schulden go in to that `and that place;
Alors David dit à Achimélec, le sacrificateur: Le roi m'a donné un ordre, et m'a dit: Que personne ne sache rien de l'affaire pour laquelle je t'envoie, et que je t'ai commandée. Et j'ai donné rendez-vous à mes gens à tel endroit.
3 now therfor if thou hast ony thing at hond, ether fyue looues, yyue thou to me, ether what euer thing thou fyndist.
Maintenant donc qu'as-tu sous la main? Donne-moi cinq pains, ou ce qui se trouvera.
4 And the preest answeride to Dauid, and seide to hym, Y haue `not lewid, `that is, comyn, looues at hoond, but oneli hooli breed; whether the children ben clene, and moost of wymmen?
Et le sacrificateur répondit à David, et dit: Je n'ai point de pain commun sous la main, j'ai seulement du pain sacré; mais tes gens se sont-ils au moins gardés des femmes?
5 And Dauid answeride to the preest, and seide to hym, And sotheli if it is doon of wymmen, we absteyneden vs fro yistirdai and the thridde dai ago, whanne we yeden out, and the `vessels, that is, bodies, of the children weren cleene; forsothe this weie is defoulyd, but also that schal be halewid to dai in the vessels.
Et David répondit au sacrificateur, et lui dit: Certes, les femmes ont été éloignées de nous, depuis hier et avant-hier que je suis parti; et les vases de mes gens sont purs; et si c'est là un usage profane, certes il sera, aujourd'hui, purifié par le vase.
6 Therfor the preest yaf to hym halewid breed, for noon other breed was there, no but oneli looues of settyng forth, that weren takun awey fro the face of the Lord, that hoote looues schulen be set.
Le sacrificateur lui donna donc le pain sacré; car il n'y avait point là d'autre pain que les pains de proposition, qui avaient été ôtés de devant l'Éternel, pour y remettre du pain chaud, au jour qu'on avait ôté l'autre.
7 Forsothe sum man of the seruauntis of Saul was there with ynne in the tabernacle of the Lord; and his name was Doech of Ydumee, the myytiest of the scheepherdis, `that is, iugis, of Saul.
Or, en ce jour, un homme d'entre les serviteurs de Saül se tenait là, devant l'Éternel; il se nommait Doëg, l'Iduméen, chef des bergers de Saül.
8 Forsothe Dauid seide to Achymelech, If thou hast `here at hond spere, ether swerd, yyue to me; for Y took not with me my swerd and myn armeris; for the `word of the kyng constreynede me.
Et David dit à Achimélec: N'as-tu donc pas sous la main quelque lance ou quelque épée? car je n'ai point pris mon épée ni mes armes avec moi, parce que l'affaire du roi était pressée.
9 And the preest seide, Lo! here the swerd of Goliath Filistei, whom thou killidst in the valey of Terebynte, is wlappid in a cloth aftir ephoth; if thou wolt take this, take thou; for here is noon other outakun that. And Dauid seide, Noon other is lijk this, yyue thou it to me.
Et le sacrificateur dit: Voici l'épée de Goliath, le Philistin, que tu tuas dans la vallée du chêne; elle est enveloppée dans un drap, derrière l'éphod; si tu veux la prendre pour toi, prends-la; car il n'y en a point ici d'autre que celle-là. Et David dit: il n'y en a point de pareille; donne-la-moi.
10 Therfor Dauid roos, `and fledde in that dai fro the face of Saul, and cam to Achis, the kyng of Geth.
Alors David se leva, et s'enfuit ce jour-là de devant Saül, et s'en alla vers Akish, roi de Gath.
11 And the seruauntis of Achis seiden to hym, whanne thei hadden seyn Dauid, Whether this is not Dauid, kyng of the lond? Whether thei sungen not to hym bi queeris, and seiden, Saul smoot a thousynde, and Dauid smoot ten thousynde?
Or les serviteurs d'Akish lui dirent: N'est-ce pas là David, le roi du pays? N'est-ce pas celui dont on disait, en chantant dans les danses: Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille?
12 Sotheli Dauid puttide these wordis `in his herte, and he dredde greetli of the face of Achis, kyng of Geth.
Et David fut frappé de ces paroles, et il eut une fort grande peur d'Akish, roi de Gath.
13 And Dauid chaungide his mouth bifor Achis, and felde doun bitwixe her hondis, and he hurtlide ayens the doris of the yate, and his drauelis, `that is, spotelis, flowiden doun in to the beerd.
Et il dissimula sa raison à leurs yeux, et fit l'insensé entre leurs mains; il faisait des marques sur les portes, et laissait couler sa salive sur sa barbe.
14 And Achis seide to hise seruauntis, Seen ye the wood man? why brouyten ye hym to me?
Alors Akish dit à ses serviteurs: Vous voyez bien que cet homme est fou? Pourquoi me l'avez-vous amené?
15 whether wood men failen to vs? whi han ye brouyt in hym, that he schulde be wood, while Y am present? Delyuere ye hym fro hennus, lest he entre in to myn hows.
Manquais-je de gens insensés, que vous m'ayez amené celui-ci, pour faire l'insensé devant moi? Cet homme entrerait-il dans ma maison?
