1 Samuel 16
1 And the Lord seide to Samuel, Hou long biweilist thou Saul, sithen Y castide hym awey, that he regne not on Israel; fille thin horn with oile, and come, that Y sende thee to Ysay of Bethleem; for among hise sones Y haue purueide a king to me.
Och Herren sade till Samuel: Huru länge vill du sörja för Sauls skull, den jag förkastat hafver, så att han icke skall vara Konung öfver Israel? Uppfyll ditt horn med oljo, och gack åstad; jag vill sända dig till den BethLehemiten Isai; förty af hans söner hafver jag försett mig en Konung.
2 And Samuel seide, Hou schal Y go? for Saul schal here, and he schal sle me. And the Lord seide, Thou schalt take a calf of the droue in thi hond, and thou schalt seye, Y cam to make sacrifice to the Lord.
Samuel sade: Huru skulle jag gå dit? Saul får det veta, och slår mig ihjäl. Herren sade: Tag en kalf af fät till dig, och säg: Jag är kommen till att offra Herranom;
3 And thou schalt clepe Ysay to the sacrifice, and Y schal schewe to thee, what thou schalt do; and thou schalt anoynte, whom euere Y schal schewe to thee.
Och du skall kalla Isai till offret; då vill jag visa dig hvad du göra skall, att du der smörjer den jag dig säger.
4 Therfor Samuel dide, as the Lord spak to hym; and he cam in to Bethleem, and the eldere men of the citee wondriden, and camen to hym, and seiden, Whether thin entryng is pesible?
Samuel gjorde såsom Herren honom sagt hade, och kom till BethLehem; då förskräcktes de äldste i stadenom, och gingo emot honom, och sade: Är det frid, medan du kommer?
5 And he seide, It is pesible; Y cam to make sacrifice to the Lord; be ye halewid, and come ye with me, that Y make sacrifice. Therfor he halewide Ysai, and hise sones, and clepide hem to the sacrifice.
Han sade: Ja, jag är kommen till att offra Herranom; helger eder, och kommer med mig till offret. Och han helgade Isai och hans söner, och böd dem till offret.
6 And whanne thei hadden entrid, he siy Eliab, and seide, Whether bifor the Lord is his crist?
Då de nu kommo in, såg han på Eliab, och tänkte: Visst är för Herranom här hans smorde.
7 And the Lord seide to Samuel, Biholde thou not his cheer, nethir hiynesse of his stature; for Y castide hym awei, and Y demyde not bi `the siyt of man; for a man seeth tho thingis that ben opyn, but the Lord biholdith the herte.
Men Herren sade till Samuel: Se intet på hans skapnad, eller hans stora person; jag hafver förkastat honom, förty det går icke efter som en menniska ser. En menniska ser det för ögonen är, men Herren ser till hjertat.
8 And Ysai clepide Amynadab, and brouyte hym bifor Samuel; which seide, Nether the Lord hath chose this.
Då kallade Isai AbiNadab, och lät honom gå fram för Samuel; och han sade: Denna hafver Herren ock intet utvalt.
9 Forsothe Isay brouyte Samma; of whom Samuel seide, Also the Lord hath not chose this.
Då lät Isai gå fram Samma; men han sade: Denna hafver Herren ock intet utvalt.
10 Therfor Isai brouyte hise seuene sones bifor Samuel; and Samuel seide to Ysai, The Lord hath `not chose of these.
Då lät Isai gå sina sju söner fram för Samuel; men Samuel sade till Isai: Herren hafver ingen af dem utvalt.
11 And Samuel seide to Isai, Whether thi sones ben now fillid? And Isai answeride, Yit `another is, a litil child, and lisewith scheep. And Samuel seide to Isai, Sende thou, and brynge hym; for we schulen not sitte to mete, bifor that he come hidur.
Och Samuel sade till Isai: Äro nu här piltarna? Han sade: Det är ännu en den minste igen, och si, han vaktar får. Då sade Samuel till Isai: Sänd bort, och låt hemta honom; ty vi skole icke sätta oss, förra än han kommer.
12 Therfor Ysai sente, and brouyte hym; sotheli he was rodi, and fair in siyt, and of semely face. And the Lord seide, Rise thou, and anoynte hym; for it is he.
Då sände han åstad, och lät hemta honom. Och han var brunaktig, med fager ögon och dägelig skapnad. Och Herren sade: Upp, och smörj honom; den är det.
13 Therfor Samuel took the horn of oyle, and anoyntid hym in the myddis of his britheren; and the Spirit of the Lord was dressid in to Dauid fro that day `and afterward. And Samuel roos, and yede in to Ramatha.
Då tog Samuel sitt oljohorn, och smorde honom midt ibland hans bröder. Och Herrans Ande kom öfver David, ifrå den dagen, och allt sedan; och Samuel stod upp, och gick till Ramath.
14 And so the Spirit of the Lord yede awei fro Saul, and a wickid spirit of the Lord trauelide Saul.
Och Herrans Ande vek ifrå Saul, och en ond ande af Herranom qvalde honom.
15 And the seruauntis of Saul seiden to hym, Lo! an yuel spirit of the Lord traueilith thee;
Då sade Sauls tjenare till honom: Si, en ond ande af Gudi qväl dig.
16 oure lord the kyng comaunde, and thi seruauntis that ben bifore thee, schulen seke a man, that kan synge with an harpe, that whanne the yuel spirit of the Lord takith thee, he harpe with his hond, and thou bere esiliere.
Vår herre säge sina tjenare som för honom stå, att de söka en man, som kan på harpo och strängaspel; på det att, när den onde Guds anden kommer öfver dig, må han spela med sine hand, att det må varda bättre med dig.
17 And Saul seide to hise seruauntis, Puruey ye to me sum man syngynge wel, and brynge ye hym to me.
Då sade Saul till sina tjenare: Ser efter en man, som är god på strängaspel, och hafver honom hit till mig.
18 And oon of the children answeride and seide, Lo! Y siy the sone of Ysai of Bethleem, kunnynge to synge, and `strongeste in myyt, and `a man able to batel, and prudent in wordis, and a feir man; and the Lord is with hym.
Då svarade en af tjenarena, och sade: Si, jag hafver sett en Isai son, den BethLehemitens; han kan på strängaspel, en dogelig man, och stridsam, och förståndig i saker, och dägelig, och Herren är med honom.
19 Therfor Saul sente messangeris to Ysay, and seide, Sende thou to me Dauid thi sone, `which is in the lesewis.
Då sände Saul båd till Isai, och lät säga honom: Sänd din son David till mig, som är med fåren.
20 Therfor Isai took an asse `ful of looues, and a galoun of wyn, and a `kyde of geet; and sente bi the hond of Dauid his sone to Saul.
Så tog Isai en åsna, med bröd, och en lägel vin, och ett kid af getterna, och sände till Saul med sinom son David.
21 And Dauid cam to Saul, and stood bifor hym; and Saul louyde hym greetli, and he was maad `his squyer.
Så kom David till Saul, och gick fram för honom; och han vardt honom ganska kär, och blef hans vapnedragare.
22 And Saul sente to Isay, and seide, Dauid stonde in my siyt, for he foond grace in myn iyen.
Och Saul sände till Isai, och lät säga honom: Låt David blifva inför mig; ty han hafver funnit ynnest för min ögon.
23 Therfor whanne euer the wickid spirit of the Lord took Saul, Dauid took the harpe, and smoot with his hond, and Saul was coumfortid, and he hadde liytere; for the wickid spirit yede awey fro hym.
När nu den Guds anden kom öfver Saul, så tog David harpona, och spelade med sine hand; så kom Saul till sig igen, och det vardt bättre med honom, och den onde anden vek ifrå honom.
