1 Kings 8
1 Thanne alle the gretter men in birthe in Israel, with the princes of lynagis, and the duykis of meynees of the sones of Israel, weren gaderid to kyng Salomon, in to Jerusalem, that thei schulden bere the arke of boond of pees of the Lord fro the citee of Dauid, that is, fro Syon.
Alors s’assemblèrent tous les anciens d’Israël avec les princes des tribus, et les chefs des familles des enfants d’Israël, auprès du roi Salomon dans Jérusalem, pour transporter l’arche de l’alliance du Seigneur de la cité de David, c’est-à-dire, de Sion.
2 And al Israel cam to gidere in the moneth Bethanym, in the solempne dai; thilke is the seuenthe moneth.
Et tout Israël vint ensemble auprès du roi Salomon, dans le mois d’Ethanim, au jour solennel: c’est le septième mois.
3 And alle the elde men of Israel camen; and the preestis token the arke,
Tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent donc, et les prêtres emportèrent l’arche,
4 and baren the arke of the Lord, and the tabernacle of boond of pees, and alle vessels of the seyntuarye, that weren in the tabernacle; and the preestis and dekenes baren tho.
Et ils emportèrent l’arche du Seigneur, et le tabernacle d’alliance, et tous les vases du sanctuaire qui étaient dans le tabernacle; et les prêtres et les lévites les portaient.
5 Sotheli kyng Salomon, and al the multitude of Israel, that camen togidere to hym, yede with hym bifor the arke; and thei offriden scheep and oxis, with out gessyng and noumbre.
Or le roi Salomon, et toute la multitude d’Israël, qui était venue auprès de lui, marchait avec lui devant l’arche, et ils immolaient des brebis et des bœufs, sans prix et sans nombre.
6 And prestis brouyten the arke of boond of pees of the Lord in to his place, in to Goddis answerynge place of the temple, in to the hooli of hooli thingis, vndur the wengis of cherubyns.
Et les prêtres portèrent l’arche de l’alliance du Seigneur en son lieu, dans l’oracle du temple, dans le Saint des saints, sous les ailes des chérubins.
7 Forsothe cherubyns spredden forth wengis ouer the place of the arke; and hiliden the arke, and the barris therof aboue.
Car les chérubins étendaient leurs ailes au-dessus du lieu de l’arche, et ils couvraient l’arche, et les leviers par en haut.
8 And whanne the barris stoden forth, and the hiynesse of tho apperiden with out the seyntuarye, bifor `Goddis answerynge place, tho apperyden no ferther with outforth; whiche barris also weren there `til in to present day.
Et comme les leviers passaient en dehors, et que leurs extrémités paraissaient hors du sanctuaire devant l’oracle, ils ne paraissaient plus extérieurement, et ils sont demeurés là jusqu’au présent jour.
9 Forsothe in the arke is noon other thing, no but twei tablis of stoon, whiche tablis Moyses in Oreb hadde put in the ark, whanne the Lord made boond of pees with the sones of Israel, whanne thei yeden out of the loond of Egipt.
Or, il n’y avait rien autre chose dans l’arche que les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y avait mises à Horeb, quand le Seigneur fit alliance avec les enfants d’Israël, lorsqu’ils sortirent de la terre d’Egypte.
10 Forsothe it was doon whanne the preestis hadden go out of the seyntuarie, a cloude fillide the hows of the Lord;
Mais il arriva que, quand les prêtres furent sortis du sanctuaire, la nuée remplit la maison du Seigneur;
11 and the preestis myyten not stonde and mynystre, for the cloude; for whi the glorye of the Lord hadde fillid the hows of the Lord.
Et les prêtres ne pouvaient pas s’y tenir, ni remplir leur ministère à cause de la nuée; car la gloire du Seigneur avait rempli la maison du Seigneur.
12 Thanne Salomon seide, The Lord seide, that he wolde dwelle in a cloude.
Alors Salomon dit: Le Seigneur a dit qu’il habiterait dans la nuée.
13 Y bildynge haue bildid an hows in to thi dwelling place, in to thi moost stidefast trone with outen ende.
Ô Dieu, j’ai bâti cette maison pour votre demeure, et pour votre trône très affermi à jamais.
14 And the kyng turnede his face, and blesside al the chirche in Israel; for al the chirche of Israel stood.
Et le roi tourna sa face, et bénit toute l’assemblée d’Israël: car toute l’assemblée d’Israël était présente.
15 And Salomon seide, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that spak with his mouth to Dauid, my fadir, and performyde in hise hondis, and seide,
Et Salomon dit: Béni le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël! lui qui a parlé de sa bouche à David mon père, et par ses mains a accompli sa parole, disant:
16 Fro the dai in which Y ledde my puple Israel out of Egipt, Y chees not a citee of alle the lynagis of Israel, that an hows schulde be bildid, and my name schulde be there; but Y chees Dauid, that he schulde be ouer my puple Israel.
Depuis le jour que j’ai retiré de l’Egypte mon peuple Israël, je n’ai point choisi de ville d’entre toutes les tribus d’Israël, afin qu’on me bâtît une maison et que mon nom y fût; mais j’ai choisi David, afin qu’il fût chef de mon peuple Israël.
17 And Dauid, my fadir, wolde bilde an hows to the name of the Lord God of Israel.
Et David mon père voulut bâtir une maison au nom du Seigneur Dieu d’Israël;
18 And the Lord seide to Dauid, my fadir, That thou thouytist in thin herte to bilde an hows to my name, thou didist wel, tretynge this same thing in soule;
Mais le Seigneur dit à David mon père: Quand tu as pensé en ton cœur à bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as bien fait, en t’occupant de cela en ton esprit.
19 netheles thou schalt not bilde an hows to me, but thi sone, that schal go out of thi reynes, he schal bilde an hows to my name.
Cependant ce ne sera pas toi qui me bâtiras une maison; mais ton fils, qui sortira de tes flancs, sera celui qui bâtira une maison à mon nom.
20 The Lord hath confermyd his word, which he spak; and Y stood for Dauid, my fadir, and Y sat on the trone of Israel, as the Lord spak; and Y haue bildid an hows to the name of the Lord God of Israel.
Le Seigneur a continué la parole qu’il a dite: j’ai succédé à David mon père, je me suis assis sur le trône d’Israël, comme l’a dit le Seigneur, et j’ai bâti une maison au nom du Seigneur Dieu d’Israël.
21 And Y haue ordeyned there a place of the arke, in which arke the boond of pees of the Lord is, which he smoot with oure fadris, whanne thei yeden out of the lond of Egipt.
Et j’ai établi là le lieu de l’arche, dans laquelle est l’alliance du Seigneur, qu’il fit avec nos pères, quand ils sortirent de la terre d’Egypte.
22 Forsothe Salomon stood bifoor the auter of the Lord, in the siyt of the chirch of Israel; and he helde forth hise hondis ayens heuene,
Or Salomon se tint debout devant l’autel du Seigneur, en présence de toute l’assemblée d’Israël, et il étendit ses mains vers le ciel,
23 and seide, Lord God of Israel, no God in heuene aboue, nether on erthe bynethe, is lijk thee, which kepist couenaunt and mercy to thi seruauntis, that goon bifor thee in al her herte;
Et il dit: Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, il n’y a point de Dieu semblable à vous en haut, dans le ciel, et en bas, sur la terre: c’est vous qui conservez l’alliance et la miséricorde à vos serviteurs, qui marchaient devant vous en tout leur cœur;
24 and thou kepist to Dauid, my fadir, thi seruaunt, tho thingis whiche thou hast spoke to him; bi mouth thou hast spoke, and bi hondis thou hast fillid, as this day preueth.
Qui avez gardé à votre serviteur, David mon père, ce que vous lui avez promis: vous l’avez dit de votre bouche et accompli par vos mains, comme ce jour le prouve.
25 Now therfor, Lord God of Israel, kepe thou to thi seruaunt Dauid, my fadir, tho thingis whiche thou spakist to hym, and seidist, A man of thee schal not be taken awei bifor me, which man schal sitte on the trone of Israel, so netheles if thi sones kepen thi weye, that thei go bifor me, as thou yedist in my siyt.
Maintenant donc, Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, conservez à votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez promis, disant: On ne t’enlèvera pas devant moi un homme qui doit s’asseoir sur le trône d’Israël, pourvu néanmoins que tes fils gardent leur voie, afin qu’ils marchent devant moi, comme toi tu as marché en ma présence.
26 And now, Lord God of Israel, thi wordis be maad stidfast, whiche thou spakist to thi seruaunt Dauid, my fadir.
Et maintenant, Seigneur Dieu d’Israël, qu’elles soient accomplies, les paroles que vous avez dites à votre serviteur, David mon père.
27 Therfor whether it is to gesse, that God dwellith verily on erthe; for if heuene, and heuene of heuenes moun not take thee, how myche more this hows, which Y bildid to thee, `mai not take thee.
Est-il donc croyable que Dieu habite véritablement sur la terre? Car, si le ciel et les cieux des cieux ne vous peuvent contenir, combien moins cette maison que j’ai bâtie?
28 But, my Lord God, biholde thou to the preiere of thi seruaunt, and to the bisechyngis of hym; here thou the `ympne, ether preysing, and preiere, which thi seruaunt preieth bifor thee to day;
Mais portez vos regards sur la prière de votre serviteur, et sur ses supplications. Seigneur mon Dieu: écoutez l’hymne et la prière que votre serviteur fait devant vous aujourd’hui,
29 that thin iyen be openyd on this hows bi niyt and dai, on the hows, of which thou seidist, My name schal be there; that thou here the preier, which thi seruaunt preieth to thee in this place; that thou here the bisechyng of thi seruaunt,
Afin que vos yeux soient ouverts sur cette maison nuit et jour; sur la maison de laquelle vous avez dit: Mon nom sera là; afin que vous exauciez la prière que vous fait en ce lieu votre serviteur;
30 and of thi puple Israel, what euer thing he preieth in this place, and here thou in the place of thi dwellyng in heuene; and whanne thou hast herd, thou schalt be mercyful.
Afin que vous exauciez la prière de votre serviteur, et de votre peuple Israël, quelque chose qu’ils demandent en ce lieu: et vous exaucerez dans le lieu de votre habitation, dans le ciel, et lorsque vous aurez exaucé vous serez propice.
31 If a man synneth ayens a man, and hath ony ooth, bi which he is holdun boundun, and cometh for the ooth in to thin hows, bifor thin auter, thou schalt here in heuene,
Si un homme pèche contre son prochain, s’il a quelque serment par lequel il s’est lié, et qu’il vienne à cause de ce serment devant votre autel, dans votre maison,
32 and thou schalt do, and thou schalt deme thi seruauntis; and thou schalt condempne the wickid man, and schalt yelde his weie on his heed, and thou schalt iustifie the iust man, and schalt yelde to hym vp his riytfulnesse.
Vous écouterez dans le ciel, et vous agirez et vous jugerez vos serviteurs, condamnant l’impie, ramenant sa voie sur sa tête, justifiant le juste, et lui rendant selon sa justice.
33 If thi puple Israel fleeth hise enemyes, for he schal do synne to thee, and thei doen penaunce, and knoulechen to thi greet name, and comen, and worschipen, and bisechen thee in this hows,
Si votre peuple Israël fuit devant ses ennemis (parce qu’il lui arrivera de pécher contre vous), et que, faisant pénitence et rendant gloire à votre nom, ils viennent, et vous prient et vous implorent dans cette maison,
34 here thou in heuene, and foryyue thou the synne of thi puple; and thou schalt lede hem ayen in to the lond, which thou hast youe to the fadris of hem.
Exaucez-les dans le ciel, et remettez le péché de votre peuple Israël, et ramenez-les dans la terre que vous avez donnée à leurs pères.
35 If heuene is closid, and reyneth not for the synnes of hem, and thei preyen in this place, and doen penaunce to thi name, and ben conuertid fro her synnes for her turment,
Si le ciel est fermé, s’il ne pleut point à cause de leurs péchés, et que, priant en ce lieu, ils fassent pénitence pour honorer votre nom, et qu’ils se convertissent, et quittent leurs péchés à cause de leur affliction,
36 here thou hem in heuene, and foryyue thou the synnes of thi seruauntis, and of thi puple Israel, and schewe thou to hem good weie, bi which thei schulen go, and yyue thou reyn to hem on the lond, which thou hast youe to hem in to possessioun.
Exaucez-les dans le ciel, et remettez les péchés de vos serviteurs et de votre peuple Israël: montrez-leur la voie droite par laquelle ils doivent marcher; et répandez de la pluie sur votre terre que vous avez donnée à votre peuple en possession.
37 If hungur risith in the lond, ether pestilence is, ether corrupt eyr is, ether rust, ether locuste, ether myldew, and his enemy turmentith hym, and bisegith the yatis, al wounde, al sikenesse, al cursyng,
Si une famine se lève sur la terre, ou une peste, ou un air corrompu, ou la rouille, ou la sauterelle ou la nielle, et que votre peuple soit affligé par son ennemi, assiégeant ses portes, par toute sorte de plaies et toute sorte d’infirmités;
38 and wichyng of yuel, that bifallith to ech man of thi puple Israel, if ony man knowith the wounde of his herte, and holdith forth hise hondis in this hows,
Dans tout anathème et toute imprécation qui arrivera à un homme, quel qu’il soit, de votre peuple Israël: si quelqu’un reconnaît la plaie de son cœur, et qu’il étende ses mains dans cette maison,
39 thou schalt here in heuene, in the place of thi dwellyng, and thou schalt do mercy, and thou schalt do that thou yyue to ech man vpe alle hise weies, as thou seest his herte; for thou aloone knowist the herte of alle the sones of men,
Vous l’exaucerez dans le ciel, dans le lieu de votre habitation; vous lui redeviendrez propice, et vous ferez en sorte d’accorder à chacun selon toutes ses voies, comme vous verrez son cœur (parce que vous seul, vous connaissez le cœur de tous les enfants des hommes),
40 that thei drede thee in alle daies in whiche thei lyuen on the face of the lond, which thou hast youe to oure fadrys.
Afin qu’ils vous craignent durant tous les jours qu’ils vivront sur la face de la terre que vous avez donnée à nos pères.
41 Ferthermore and whanne an alien, which is not of thi puple Israel, cometh fro a fer lond for thi name; for thi grete name, and thi strong hond,
De plus, lorsque l’étranger lui-même, qui n’est point de votre peuple Israël, viendra d’une terre lointaine, à cause de votre nom (car on entendra parler de votre grand nom, de votre main puissante, et de votre bras
42 and thin arm `holdun forth schal be herd euery where; therfor whanne he cometh, and preieth in this place,
Etendu en tous lieux): lors donc qu’il viendra, et qu’il priera en ce lieu,
43 thou schalt here in heuene, in the firmament of thi dwellyng place, and thou schalt do alle thingis, for whiche the alien clepith thee, that alle puplis of londis lerne to drede thi name, as thi puple Israel doith, and preue, that thi name is clepid on this hows, which Y bildide.
Vous l’exaucerez dans le ciel, dans votre demeure stable, et vous ferez toutes les choses pour lesquelles l’étranger vous invoquera, afin que tous les peuples de la terre apprennent à craindre votre nom, comme le fait votre peuple Israël, et qu’ils éprouvent que votre nom a été invoqué sur cette maison que j’ai bâtie.
44 If thi puple goith out to batel ayens hise enemyes, bi the weie whidir euer thou sendist hem, thei schulen preye thee ayens the weie of the citee which thou hast chose, and ayens the hows which Y bildide to thi name,
Si votre peuple sort pour la guerre contre ses ennemis, et que, dans la voie, partout où vous les aurez envoyés, ils vous prient, tournés vers la cité que vous avez choisie, et vers la maison que j’ai bâtie à votre nom,
45 and thou schalt here in heuene the preyeris of hem, and the bisechyngis of hem, and thou schalt make the doom of hem.
Vous exaucerez aussi dans le ciel leurs prières et leurs supplications, et vous leur ferez justice.
46 That if thei synnen to thee, for no man is that synneth not, and thou art wrooth, and bitakist hem to her enemyes, and thei ben led prisoneris in to the lond of enemyes,
Que s’ils pèchent contre vous (car il n’y a point d’homme qui ne pèche), et qu’irrité, vous les livriez aux mains de leurs ennemis, qu’ils soient emmenés captifs dans la terre des ennemis, ou près ou loin;
47 fer ether nyy, and thei doon penaunce in her herte in the place of prisonyng, and ben conuertid, and bisechen in her prisonyng, and seien, We han synned, we han do wickidli, we han do vnfeithfuli;
Qu’ils fassent pénitence en leur cœur dans le lieu de la captivité, et que, convertis, ils vous prient dans leur captivité, disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons agi iniquement, nous nous sommes conduits en impies;
48 and thei turnen ayen to thee in al her herte and al her soule, in the lond of her enemyes, to which thei ben led prisoneris, and thei preyen thee ayens the weie of her lond which thou hast youe to her fadris, and of the citee which thou hast chose, and of the temple which Y bildide to thi name, thou schalt here in heuene,
Qu’ils reviennent à vous en tout leur cœur et en toute leur âme dans la terre de leurs ennemis, dans laquelle ils ont été emmenés captifs, et qu’ils vous prient, tournés du côté de leur terre que vous avez donnée à leurs pères, de la ville que vous avez choisie, et du temple que j’ai bâti à votre nom,
49 in the firmament of thi seete, the preiers of hem, and the bisechingis of hem, and thou shalt make the doom of hem;
Vous exaucerez dans le ciel, dans le lieu stable de votre trône, leurs prières et leurs supplications; vous leur ferez justice;
50 and thou schalt be merciful to thi puple, that synnede to thee, and to alle the wickidnessis, bi whiche thei trespassiden ayens thee; and thou schalt do merci bifor tho men, that hadden hem prisoneris, that tho men do mercy to hem.
Vous deviendrez propice à votre peuple qui a péché contre vous, en pardonnant toutes leurs iniquités par lesquelles ils ont prévariqué contre vous, et vous leur ferez miséricorde devant ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs, afin qu’ils aient pitié d’eux.
51 For it is thi puple, and thin erytage, whiche thou leddist out of the lond of Egipt, fro the myddis of yrone furneis;
Car c’est votre peuple et votre héritage, que vous avez retirés de l’Egypte, du milieu de la fournaise de fer.
52 that thin yyen be opyn to the bisechyng of thi seruaunt, and of thi puple Israel; and thou schalt here hem in alle thingis, for whiche thei clepen thee.
Que vos yeux soient ouverts aux supplications de votre serviteur et de votre peuple Israël, afin que vous les exauciez dans toutes les choses pour lesquelles ils vous invoqueront.
53 For thou hast departid hem to thee in to heritage fro alle the puplis of erthe, as thou spakist bi Moyses, thi seruaunt, whanne thou, Lord God, leddist oure fadris out of Egipt.
Car c’est vous qui les avez séparés de tous les peuples de la terre pour votre héritage, comme vous l’avez dit par Moïse, votre serviteur, lorsque vous avez retiré nos pères de l’Egypte, ô Seigneur Dieu.
54 Forsothe it was don, whanne Salomon, preiynge the Lord, hadde fillid al this preier and bisechyng, he roos fro the siyt of the auter of the Lord; for he hadde set fast euer either kne to the erthe, and hadde holde forth the hondis to heuene.
Or, il arriva que, lorsque Salomon, priant le Seigneur, eut achevé toutes ces prières et ces supplications, il se leva de devant l’autel du Seigneur; car il avait mis les deux genoux en terre, et il avait étendu les mains vers le ciel.
55 Therfor he stood, and blesside al the chirche of Israel, and seide with greet vois,
Il se tint donc debout, et il bénit toute l’assemblée d’Israël, à haute voix, disant:
56 Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that yaf reste to his puple Israel, bi alle thingis whiche he spak; a word felde not doun, sotheli nether oon, of alle goodis whiche he spak bi Moises, his seruaunt.
Béni le Seigneur, qui a donné du repos à son peuple Israël, selon tout ce qu’il a dit! Il n’est pas même tombé une seule parole touchant tous les biens qu’il nous a promis par Moïse son serviteur.
57 Oure Lord God be with vs, as he was with oure fadris, and forsake not vs, nether caste awey;
Que le Seigneur notre Dieu soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères, ne nous abandonnant point, et ne nous rejetant point;
58 but bowe he oure hertis to hym silf, that we go in alle hise weies, and kepe hise comaundementis, and cerymonyes, and domes, whiche euere he comaundide to oure fadris.
Mais qu’il incline nos cœurs vers lui, afin que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies, et que nous gardions ses commandements, ses cérémonies, et toutes les ordonnances qu’il a prescrites à nos pères;
59 And these wordis of me, bi whiche Y preiede bifor the Lord, be neiyynge to oure Lord God bi dai and niyt, that he make doom to his seruaunt, and to his puple Israel bi alle daies;
Et que ces mêmes paroles, par lesquelles j’ai prié devant le Seigneur, approchent du Seigneur notre Dieu, jour et nuit, afin qu’il fasse justice à son serviteur et à son peuple Israël chaque jour;
60 and alle the puplis of erthe wite, that the Lord hym silf is God, and noon `is ouer `with out hym.
Afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que c’est le Seigneur qui est Dieu, et qu’il n’y en a point d’autre, excepté lui.
61 Also oure herte be perfit with oure Lord God, that we go in hise domes, and kepe hise comaundementis, as and to dai.
Que notre cœur aussi soit parfait avec le Seigneur notre Dieu, afin que nous marchions dans ses décrets, et que nous gardions toujours ses commandements, comme nous faisons encore aujourd’hui.
62 Therfor the kyng, and al Israel with hym, offriden sacrifices bifor the Lord.
Ainsi le roi et tout Israël avec lui immolaient des victimes devant le Seigneur.
63 And Salomon killide pesible sacrifices, whiche he offride to the Lord; of oxis two and twenti thousynde, and of scheep sixe score thousynde; and the king and the sones of Israel halewiden the temple of the Lord.
Et Salomon tua les hosties pacifiques qu’il immola au Seigneur, vingt-deux mille bœufs et cent vingt mille brebis; et le roi et les enfants d’Israël dédièrent le temple du Seigneur.
64 In that dai the kyng halewide the myddil of the greet street, that was bifor the hows of the Lord; for he made there brent sacrifice, and sacrifice, and the innere fatnesse of pesible thingis; for the brasun auter that was bifor the Lord, was to litil, and myyte not take the brent sacrifice, and the sacrifice, and the ynnere fatnesse of pesible thingis.
En ce jour-là, le roi consacra le milieu du parvis qui était devant la maison du Seigneur; car il offrit là l’holocauste, le sacrifice, et la graisse des hosties pacifiques, parce que l’autel d’airain qui était devant le Seigneur était trop petit et ne pouvait contenir l’holocauste, le sacrifice et la graisse des hosties pacifiques.
65 Therfor Salomon made in that tyme a solempne feeste, and al Israel with hym, a grete multitude, fro the entryng of Emath `til to the stronde of Egipt, bifor oure Lord God, in seuene daies and seuene daies, that is, fourtene daies.
Salomon fit donc en ce temps-là la fête célèbre, et tout Israël avec lui, une grande multitude étant accourue depuis l’entrée d’Emath jusqu’au fleuve d’Egypte, devant le Seigneur notre Dieu, durant sept jours et sept jours, c’est-à-dire durant quatorze jours.
66 And in the eiythe day he delyueryde the puplis, whiche blessiden the kyng, and yeden forth in to her tabernaclis, and weren glade and of ioyful herte on alle the goodis whiche God hadde do to Dauid, his seruaunt, and to Israel, his puple.
Et, au huitième jour, il renvoya les peuples, qui, bénissant le roi, s’en allèrent dans leurs tabernacles avec allégresse et le cœur joyeux, pour tous les biens qu’avait faits le Seigneur à David son serviteur et à Israël son peuple.
