1 Kings 6
1 Forsothe it was doon in the fourthe hundrid and fourescore yeer of the goynge out of the sones of Israel fro the lond of Egipt, in the fourthe yeer, in the monethe Zio; thilke is the secounde monethe of the rewme of Salomon on Israel; he bigan to bilde an hows to the Lord.
Ce fut quatre cent quatre-vingts ans après le départ des Israélites du pays d’Egypte, dans le mois de ziv, c’est-à-dire le deuxième mois, dans la quatrième année du règne de Salomon, que celui-ci édifia le temple en l’honneur de l’Eternel.
2 Forsothe the hows which kyng Salomon bildide to the Lord, hadde sexti cubitis in lengthe, and twenti cubitis in breede, and thretti cubitis in heiythe.
L’Édifice que le roi Salomon bâtit à l’Eternel avait soixante coudées de long, vingt de large et trente de hauteur.
3 And a porche was bifor the temple of twenti cubitis of lengthe, by the mesure of the breed of the temple; and the porche hadde ten cubitis of breede, bifor the face of the temple.
Le portique en avant du sanctuaire avait vingt coudées de longueur, dans le sens de la largeur de l’édifice, et dix coudées de profondeur, sur la face de l’édifice.
4 And Salomon made in the temple `wyndows streyte withoutforth, and large with ynne.
On pratiqua au temple des fenêtres qui l’éclairaient, tout en étant grillées.
5 And he bildide on the wal of the temple bildyngis of tablis bi cumpas, in the wallis of the hows, `bi cumpas of the temple, and of Goddis answeryng place; and he made sidis in the cumpas.
On adossa à la muraille du temple des étages qui régnaient tout autour des parois de l’édifice, du sanctuaire comme du très-saint; et l’on y établit, tout autour, des chambres latérales.
6 The bildyng of tablis, that was vndur, hadde fyue cubitis of breede; and the myddil bildyng of tablis was of sixe cubits of breede; and the thridde bildyng of tablis was hauynge seuene cubitis of breede. Sotheli he puttide beemys in the hous bi cumpas with outforth, that tho cleuiden not to the wallis of the temple.
L’Étage inférieur avait cinq coudées de large, celui du milieu, six coudées, et le troisième sept; on avait bâti en retraite le pourtour extérieur du temple, afin de n’en pas entamer les murs.
7 Forsothe whanne the hows was bildid, it was bildid of `stoonys hewid and perfit; and an hamer, and ax, and al thing maad of yrun, weren not herd in the hows, while it was in bildyng.
On n’employa à la construction du temple que des pierres intactes de la carrière; ni marteau, ni hache, ni autre instrument de fer ne fut entendu dans le temple durant sa construction.
8 The dore of the myddil side was in the wal of the riythalf hows; and bi a vijs thei stieden in to the myddil soler, and fro the myddil soler in to the thridde soler.
L’Entrée de la chambre latérale du milieu se trouvait dans l’aile droite du temple; de là on montait, par un escalier en hélice, à l’étage du milieu, et de celui-ci au troisième.
9 And Salomon bildide the hows, and endide it. Also Salomon hilide the hows with couplis of cedre,
Quand on eut achevé la bâtisse du temple, on le revêtit de lambris et de panneaux de cèdre.
10 and bildide a bildyng of tablis ouer al the hows, bi fyue cubitis of heiythe, and hilide the hows with `trees of cedre.
Chaque étage construit autour du temple avait cinq coudées de hauteur; le temple reçut un revêtement de bois de cèdre.
11 And the word of the Lord was maad to Salomon, and seide,
Et l’Eternel parla ainsi à Salomon:
12 This is the hows, which thou bildist; if thou gost in myn heestis, and dost my domes, and kepist alle my comaundementis, and goist bi tho, Y schal make stidefast my word to thee, `which word Y spak to Dauid, thi fadir;
"Cette maison que tu édifies, j’y résiderai, si tu te conformes à mes lois, si tu obéis à mes statuts, si tu as soin d’observer et de suivre tous mes commandements; alors j’accomplirai en ta faveur la promesse que j’ai faite à David, ton père;
13 and Y schal dwelle in the myddis of the sones of Israel, and Y schal not forsake my puple Israel.
Je résiderai au milieu des enfants d’Israël, et je n’abandonnerai point Israël, mon peuple."
14 Therfor Salomon bildide the hows, and endide it;
Salomon, ayant ainsi terminé la bâtisse de la maison,
15 and he bildide the wallis of the hows with ynne with tablis of cedre, fro the pawment of the hows `til to the heiynesse of the wal, and `til to the couplis; and hilide with trees of cedre with ynne; and he hilide the pawment of the hows with tablis of beeche.
en forma les murs intérieurs avec des panneaux de cèdre revêtant de bois tout l’intérieur, depuis le sol jusqu’aux parois du plafond, et il lambrissa le sol de la maison avec des panneaux de cyprès.
16 And he bildide a wal of tablis of cedre of twenti cubitis at the hyndrere part of the temple, fro the pawment `til to the hiyere partis; and he made the ynnere hows of Goddis answeryng place, in to the hooli of hooli thingis.
L’Espace de vingt coudées formant l’arrière-corps de l’édifice fut revêtu de panneaux de cèdre, depuis le sol jusqu’aux parois, et on les disposa comme enceinte du debir, formant le saint des saints.
17 Sotheli thilke temple bifor the doris of Goddis answering place was of fourti cubitis.
Le reste de la maison, de quarante coudées, formait le hêkhal ou avant-corps.
18 And al the hows with ynne was clothid with cedre, and hadde hise smethenessis, and hise ioynyngis maad suteli, and grauyngis apperynge aboue; alle thingis weren clothid with tablis of cedre, and outirli a stoon miyte not appere in the wal.
Le cèdre, à l’intérieur de la maison, portait en sculpture des coloquintes et des fleurs épanouies; le tout en cèdre, pas une pierre n’apparaissait.
19 Forsothe Salomon made Goddis answeryng place in the myddis of the hows, in the ynnere part, that he schulde sette there the arke of boond of pees of the Lord.
Le debir avait été disposé à l’intérieur de la maison pour recevoir l’arche d’alliance de l’Eternel.
20 Sotheli Goddis answeryng place hadde twenti cubitis of lengthe, and twenti cubitis of breede, and twenti cubitis of hiyte; and he hilide, and clothide it with pureste gold; but also he clothide the auter with cedre.
En avant du debir, ayant vingt coudées de long, vingt de large, vingt de hauteur, et qu’on revêtit d’or fin, était l’autel, qu’on lambrissa de cèdre.
21 Also he hilide with pureste gold the hows bifor `Goddis answeryng place, and fastnyde platis with goldun nailis.
Salomon revêtit d’or fin tout l’intérieur de la maison, et ferma par des chaînes d’or: e devant du debir, également couvert d’or.
22 No thing was in the temple, `which thing was not hilid with gold; but also he hilid with gold al the auter of Goddis answeryng place.
Il garnit ainsi d’or le temple entier, dans tout son ensemble, et recouvrit d’or tout l’autel voisin du debir.
23 And he made in `Goddis answeryng place twey cherubyns of the trees of olyues, of ten cubits of heiyte;
On fit pour le debir deux chérubins en bois d’olivier, hauts chacun de dix coudées.
24 o wynge of cherub was of fyue cubitis, and the tother wynge of cherub was of fyue cubitis, that is, hauynge ten cubitis, fro the heiynesse of `the o wynge `til to the hiynesse of the tother wynge.
L’Une des ailes d’un chérubin avait cinq coudées, l’autre également cinq dix coudées d’une extrémité de sas ailes à l’autre.
25 And the secunde cherub was of ten cubitis in euene mesure; and o werk was in the twey cherubyns,
Dix coudées pareillement à l’autre chérubin: même dimension et même forme pour les deux chérubins.
26 that is, o cherub hadde the hiythe of ten cubitis, and in lijk maner the tother cherub.
L’Un des chérubins avait dix coudées de hauteur, et pareillement l’autre chérubin.
27 And he settide cherubyns in the myddis of the ynnere temple; forsothe the cherubyns helden forth her wyngis, and o wenge touchide the wal, and the wynge of the secunde cherub touchide the tother wal; forsothe the othere wyngis in the middil part of the temple touchiden hem silf togidere.
On plaça les chérubins au milieu de l’enceinte intérieure, les ailes déployées, de manière que l’aile d’un chérubin touchait le mur, celle du second chérubin le mur opposé, et que leurs autres ailes se touchaient aile à aile au milieu de l’enceinte.
28 And he hilide the cherubyns with gold,
On recouvrit d’or les chérubins.
29 and alle the wallis of the temple `bi cumpas; and grauyde with dyuerse grauyngis and smethenesse; and he made in tho wallys cherubyns, and palmes, and dyuerse peynturis, as stondinge forth and goynge out of the wal.
Sur tous les murs de la maison, l’on tailla, dans le pourtour, des figures sculptées de chérubins, de palmes et de fleurs épanouies, à l’intérieur comme au dehors.
30 But also he hilide with gold the pawment of the hows, withynne and with outforthe.
On recouvrit d’or le sol de la maison, tant à l’intérieur qu’à l’extérieur.
31 And in the entryng of `Goddis answering place he made twei litil doris of the trees of olyues; and he made postis of fyue corneris,
A l’entrée du debir, on établit des vantaux de bois d’olivier, qui, avec le linteau et les poteaux, en formaient la cinquième partie.
32 and twei doris of the trees of olyues; and grauyde in tho the peynture of cherubyns, and the licnessis of palmes, and grauyngis aboue stondynge forth gretli; and he hilide tho with gold; and he hilide as wel the cherubyns, as palmes, and othere thingis with gold.
Et sur ces deux battants de bois d’olivier l’on sculpta des figures de chérubins, de palmes et de fleurs épanouies, et on les recouvrit d’or, qu’on étendit en plaques sur les chérubins et sur les palmes.
33 And in the entring of the temple he made postis foure cornerid of the trees of olyues;
Pareillement, à l’entrée du hêkhal on pratiqua des poteaux de bois d’olivier, dimension d’un quart;
34 and he made twei doris of the trees of beech, ech ayens other; and euer either dore was double, and it was openyd holdynge it silf togidere.
et deux vantaux en bois de cyprès, composés chacun de deux panneaux mobiles.
35 And he grauyde cherubyns, and palmes, and grauyngis apperynge greetli; and he hilide alle thingis with goldun platis, bi square werk at reule.
On y sculpta des chérubins, des palmes et des fleurs épanouies, avec un revêtement d’or s’adaptant exactement à la sculpture.
36 And he bildide a large street with ynne, bi thre ordris of stoonys maad fair, and bi oon ordre of trees of cedre.
Enfin, on forma la cour intérieure par trois assises de pierres de taille et une assise de planches de cèdre.
37 The hows of the Lord was foundid in the fourthe yeer, in the monethe Zio;
C’Est dans la quatrième année, au mois de ziv, que furent posés les fondements de la maison de Dieu;
38 and the hows was maad perfit in al his werk, and in alle vessels, ether `purtenauncis, in the eleuenthe yeer, in the monethe Zebul; thilke is the eiythe monethe; and he bildide that hows in seuene yeer.
et la onzième année, au mois de bout, c’est-à-dire le huitième mois, la maison était terminée dans tous ses détails et toutes ses dispositions: on mit sept ans à la bâtir.
