1 Kings 5
1 Also Hiram, kyng of Tire, sente hise seruauntis to Salomon; for he herde that thei hadden anoyntide hym kyng for his fadir; for Hiram was frend of Dauid in al time.
Hiram, roi de Tyr, envoya ses serviteurs à Salomon, lors—qu’il eut appris qu’on l’avait sacré roi à la place de son père; car, de tout temps, Hiram avait été ami de David.
2 Sotheli also Salomon sente to Hiram,
Et Salomon fit dire à Hiram:
3 and seide, Thou knowist the wille of Dauid, my fadir, and for he miyte not bilde an hows to the name of his God, for batels neiyynge bi cumpas, til the Lord yaf hem vndur the step of hise feet.
"Tu sais que David, mon père, n’a pu édifier une maison en l’honneur de l’Eternel, son Dieu, à cause des guerres que ses ennemis lui ont suscitées sans cesse, jusqu’à ce que l’Eternel les eût mis sous ses pieds.
4 Now forsothe my Lord God yaf reste to me bi cumpas, and noon aduersarie is, nethir yuel asailyng;
Mais à présent, je suis, grâce à l’Eternel, mon Dieu, en paix avec tous les peuples qui m’entourent; plus d’ennemi, plus d’obstacles fâcheux.
5 wherfor Y thenke to buylde a temple to the name of my Lord God, as God spak to Dauid, my fadir, and seide, Thi sone, whom Y schal yyue to thee for thee on thi trone, he schal bilde an hows to my name.
Je projette donc d’édifier une maison en l’honneur de l’Eternel, mon Dieu, selon ce qu’il a dit à David, mon père, en ces termes: Ton fils, que je te donnerai pour successeur au trône, c’est lui qui bâtira la maison en mon honneur.
6 Therfor comaunde thou, that thi seruauntis hewe doun to me cedris of the Liban; and my seruauntis be with thi seruauntis; sotheli Y schal yyue to thee the meede of thi seruauntis, what euere meede thou schalt axe; for thou woost, that in my puple is not a man that kan hewe trees, as Sidonyes kunnen.
Et maintenant, donne des ordres pour qu’on me coupe des cèdres du Liban; mes travailleurs aideront les tiens, dont je te paierai le salaire selon ce que tu me diras. Car, tu le sais, il n’y a personne chez nous qui soit habile à couper les arbres comme les Sidoniens."
7 Therfor whanne Hiram hadde herde the wordis of Salomon, he was ful glad, and seide, Blessid be the Lord God to dai, that yaf to Dauid a sone moost wijs on this puple ful myche.
Lorsque Hiram eut connaissance du message de Salomon, il s’en réjouit fort et dit: "Béni soit l’Eternel d’avoir donné à David un fils capable de gouverner ce grand peuple!"
8 And Hiram sente to Salomon, and seide, Y haue herde what euer thingis thou sentist to me; Y schal do al thi wille, in trees of cedres, and of beechis.
Et il manda ce qui suit à Salomon: "J’Ai reçu ton message; je ferai tout ce que tu désires, en ce qui concerne et le bois de cèdre et le bois de cyprès.
9 My seruauntis schulen putte doun tho trees fro the Liban to the see, and Y schal araye tho trees in schippis in the see, `til to the place which thou schalt signyfie to me; and Y schal dresse tho there, that thou take tho; and thou schalt yyue necessaries to me, that mete be youun to myn hows.
Mes serviteurs les transporteront du Liban à la mer; je les ferai assembler en radeaux, qui iront par mer jusqu’à l’endroit que tu me désigneras; là je les ferai disjoindre, et tu en prendras livraison. De ton côté, tu me satisferas en assurant l’entretien de ma maison."
10 Therfor Hiram yaf to Salomon `trees of cedres, and `trees of beechis, bi al his wille;
Hiram fournit ainsi à Salomon du bois de cèdre et du bois de cyprès, autant qu’il en voulait;
11 forsothe Salomon yaf to Hiram twenti thousynde chorus of wheete, in to meete to his hows, and twenti chorus of pureste oile; Salomon yaf these thingis to Hiram bi alle yeeris.
et Salomon fournit à Hiram, pour l’entretien de sa maison, vingt mille kôr de froment et vingt kôr d’huile d’olives concassées; voilà ce qu’il lui fournissait chaque année.
12 Also the Lord yaf wisdom to Salomon, as he spak to hym; and pees was bitwixe Hiram and Salomon, and bothe smytiden boond of pees.
Le Seigneur avait doué Salomon de sagesse, comme il le lui avait promis; Hiram et Salomon vivaient en paix, et ils conclurent entre eux une alliance.
13 And kyng Salomon chees werk men of al Israel; and the summe was thretti thousynde of men.
Le roi Salomon leva un contingent sur la totalité d’Israël, contingent qui se monta à trente mille hommes.
14 And `Salomon sente hem in to the Liban, ten thousynde bi ech monethe bi whilis, so that in twei monethis bi whilis thei weren in her howsis; and Adonyram was on sich a summe.
Il les envoya au Liban, dix mille hommes par mois à tour de rôle; ils passaient un mois sur le Liban et deux mois dans leurs foyers; Adoniram dirigeait le service.
15 Therfor seuenti thousynde of hem, that baren burthuns, weren to Salomon, and foure score thousynde of masouns in the hil, with out the souereyns,
Salomon employa soixante-dix mille hommes pour porter les fardeaux, et quatre-vingt mille pour extraire les pierres de la montagne,
16 that weren maistris of alle werkis, bi the noumbre of thre thousynde and thre hundrid, comaundynge to the puple, and to hem that maden werk.
indépendamment des inspecteurs préposés par Salomon aux travaux, trois mille trois cents hommes, chargés de la police des travailleurs.
17 And the kyng comaundide, that thei schulden take greete stonys, `and preciouse stonys, in to the foundement of the temple, and that thei schulden make tho square;
Sur l’ordre du roi, on tira des carrières de grosses et lourdes pierres, des pierres de taille, pour les fondations du temple.
18 whiche stoonys the masouns of Salomon, and the masouns of Hyram, hewiden. Forsothe Biblies maden redi trees and stonus, to the hows to be bildid.
Et les ouvriers de Salomon et ceux de Hiram et les Ghibléens équarrissaient et façonnaient le bois et la pierre pour l’édification du temple.
