1 Kings 22
1 Therfor thre yeeris passiden with out batel bitwixe Sirie and Israel.
Or on demeura trois ans sans qu'il y eût guerre entre la Syrie et Israël.
2 Forsothe in the thridde yeer Josephat, king of Juda, yede doun to the kyng of Israel.
Puis, la troisième année, Josaphat, roi de Juda, étant descendu vers le roi d'Israël,
3 And the kyng of Israel seide to hise seruauntis, Witen ye not, that Ramoth of Galaad is oure, and we ben necgligent to take it fro the hoond of the kyng of Sirie?
Le roi d'Israël dit à ses serviteurs: Savez-vous que Ramoth de Galaad nous appartient? Et nous nous tenons tranquilles, sans la reprendre des mains du roi de Syrie!
4 And he seide to Josaphat, Whether thou schalt come with me to fiyte in to Ramoth of Galaad?
Puis il dit à Josaphat: Viendras-tu avec moi à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad? Et Josaphat répondit au roi d'Israël: Dispose de moi comme de toi, de mon peuple comme de ton peuple, et de mes chevaux comme de tes chevaux.
5 And Josophat seide to the kyng of Israel, As Y am, so and thou; my puple and thi puple ben oon; and my knyytis and thy knyytis `ben oon. And Josephat seide to the kyng of Israel, Y preie thee, axe thou to dai the word of the Lord.
Et Josaphat dit au roi d'Israël: Consulte d'abord, je te prie, la parole de l'Éternel.
6 Therfor the kyng of Israel gaderide prophetis aboute foure hundrid men, and he seide to hem, Owe Y to go in to Ramoth of Galaad to fiyte, ethir to reste? Whiche answeriden, Stie thou, and the Lord schal yyue it in the hond of the kyng.
Alors le roi d'Israël assembla les prophètes, environ quatre cents hommes, et leur dit: Irai-je à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou y renoncerai-je? Et ils dirent: Monte; et le Seigneur la livrera entre les mains du roi.
7 Forsothe Josephat seide, Is not here ony profete of the Lord, that we axe bi hym?
Et Josaphat dit: N'y a-t-il point ici encore quelque prophète de l'Éternel par qui nous puissions le consulter
8 And the kyng of Israel seide to Josephat, O man, Mychee, sone of Hiemla, is left, bi whom we moun axe the Lord; but Y hate hym, for he prophesieth not good to me, but yuel. To whome Josephat seide, Kyng, spek thou not so.
Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Il y a encore un homme par qui l'on peut consulter l'Éternel; mais je le hais; car il ne me prophétise rien de bon, mais seulement du mal: C'est Michée, fils de Jimla. Et Josaphat dit: Que le roi ne parle pas ainsi!
9 Therfor the kyng of Israel clepide summe chaumburleyn, and seide to hym, Haste thou to brynge Mychee, sone of Hiemla.
Alors le roi d'Israël appela un officier auquel il dit: Fais promptement venir Michée, fils de Jimla.
10 Forsothe the kyng of Israel, and Josephat, kyng of Juda, saten, ech in his trone, clothid with kyngis ournement, in the large hows bisidis the dore of the yate of Samarie; and alle prophetis prophecieden in the siyt of hem.
Or, le roi d'Israël et Josaphat, roi de Juda, étaient assis, chacun sur son trône, revêtus de leurs habits, dans la place, vers l'entrée de la porte de Samarie; et tous les prophètes prophétisaient en leur présence.
11 Also Sedechie, sone of Chanaan, made to hym silf hornes of yrun, and seide, The Lord God seith these thingis, With these thou schalt scatere Sirye, til thou do awei it.
Alors Tsidkija, fils de Kénaana, s'étant fait des cornes de fer, dit: Ainsi a dit l'Éternel: Avec ces cornes tu heurteras les Syriens jusqu'à les détruire.
12 And alle prophetis prophecieden in lijk maner, and seiden, Stye thou in to Ramoth of Galaad, and go thou with prosperite; and the Lord schal bitake thin enemyes in the hond of the kyng.
Et tous les prophètes prophétisaient de même, disant: Monte à Ramoth de Galaad, et tu réussiras; et l'Éternel la livrera entre les mains du roi.
13 Sotheli the messanger, that yede to clepe Mychee, spak to hym, and seide, Lo! the wordis of prophetis with o mouth prechen goodis to the kyng; therfor thi word be lijk hem, and speke thou goodis.
Or le messager qui était allé appeler Michée, lui parla et lui dit: Voici, maintenant les prophètes prédisent tous d'une voix du bien au roi; je te prie, que ta parole soit semblable à celle de chacun d'eux, et annonce du bien.
14 To whom Mychee seide, The Lord lyueth, for what euer thing the Lord schal seie to me, Y schal speke this.
Mais Michée dit: L'Éternel est vivant, je dirai ce que l'Éternel me dira.
15 Therfor he cam to the kyng. And the kyng seide to hym, Mychee, owen we go in to Ramoth of Galaad to fiyte, ether ceesse? To which kyng he answeride, Stie thou, and go in prosperite; and the Lord schal bitake it `in to the hond of the kyng.
Il vint donc vers le roi, et le roi lui dit: Michée, irons-nous à la guerre contre Ramoth de Galaad, ou y renoncerons-nous? Et il lui dit: Monte; et tu réussiras; et l'Éternel la livrera entre les mains du roi.
16 Forsothe the kyng seide to hym, Eft and eft Y coniure thee, that thou speke not to me, not but that that is soth in the name of the Lord.
Et le roi lui dit: Combien de fois t'adjurerai-je de ne me dire que la vérité au nom de l'Éternel?
17 And he seide, Y siy al Israel scaterid in the hillis, as scheep not hauynge a scheepherde; and the Lord seide, These han no lord, ech man turne ayen in to his hows in pees.
Et il répondit: J'ai vu tout Israël dispersé par les montagnes, comme un troupeau de brebis qui n'a point de pasteur; et l'Éternel a dit: Ces gens n'ont point de seigneur; que chacun retourne en paix dans sa maison!
18 Therfor the kyng of Israel seide to Josaphat, Whethir Y seide not to thee, that he prophecieth not good to me, but euere yuel?
Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Ne t'ai-je pas dit qu'il ne prophétise rien de bon quand il s'agit de moi, mais seulement du mal?
19 Sotheli thilke Mychee addide, and seide, Therefore here thou the word of the Lord; Y siy the Lord sittynge on his trone, and Y siy al the oost of heuene stondynge nyy hym, on the riyt side and on the left side.
Et Michée dit: C'est pourquoi, écoute la parole de l'Éternel: J'ai vu l'Éternel assis sur son trône, et toute l'armée des cieux se tenant devant lui, à sa droite et à sa gauche.
20 And the Lord seide, Who schal disseyue Achab, kyng of Israel, that he stye, and falle in Ramoth of Galaad? And oon seide siche wordis, and another in anothir maner.
Et l'Éternel dit: Qui est-ce qui séduira Achab, afin qu'il monte et qu'il périsse à Ramoth de Galaad? L'un répondait d'une façon et l'autre d'une autre.
21 Sotheli a spirit yede out, and stood bifor the Lord, and seide, Y schal disseyue hym. To whom the Lord spak, In what thing?
Alors un esprit s'avança et se tint devant l'Éternel, et dit: Je le séduirai. Et l'Éternel lui dit: Comment?
22 And he seide, Y schal go out, and Y schal be a spirit of leesyng in the mouth of alle hise prophetis. And the Lord seide, Thou schalt disseyue, and schalt haue the maystry; go thou out, and do so.
Et il répondit: Je sortirai, et je serai un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous ses prophètes. Et l'Éternel dit: Tu le séduiras, et même tu en viendras à bout. Sors, et fais ainsi.
23 Now therfor, lo! the Lord yaf a spirit of leesyng in the mouth of alle prophetis that ben here; and the Lord spak yuel ayens thee.
Maintenant donc, voici, l'Éternel a mis un esprit de mensonge dans la bouche de tous tes prophètes que voilà; et l'Éternel a prononcé du mal contre toi.
24 Forsothe Sedechie, sone of Canaan, neiyede, and smoot Mychee on the cheke, and seide, Whether the Spirit of the Lord forsook me, and spak to thee?
Alors Tsidkija, fils de Kénaana, s'approcha et frappa Michée sur la joue, en disant: Par où l'Esprit de l'Éternel m'a-t-il quitté pour te parler?
25 And Mychee seide, Thou schalt se in that dai, whanne thou schalt go in to closet with ynne closet, that thou be hid.
Et Michée répondit: Voici, tu le verras au jour où tu iras de chambre en chambre pour te cacher!
26 And the kyng of Israel seide, Take ye Mychee, and dwelle he at Amon, prince of the citee, and at Joas, the sone of Amalech;
Alors le roi d'Israël dit à l'officier: Prends Michée, et mène-le vers Amon, capitaine de la ville, et vers Joas, fils du roi;
27 and seie ye to hem, The kyng seith these thingis, Sende ye this man in to prisoun, and susteyne ye hym with breed of tribulacioun, and with watir of angwisch, til Y turne ayen in pees.
Et tu diras: Ainsi a dit le roi: Mettez cet homme en prison, et nourrissez-le du pain de l'affliction et de l'eau de l'affliction, jusqu'à ce que je revienne en paix.
28 And Mychee seide, If thou schalt turne ayen in pees, the Lord spak not in me. And he seide, Here ye, alle puplis.
Et Michée dit: Si jamais tu reviens en paix, l'Éternel n'aura point parlé par moi. Et il dit: Vous tous, peuples, entendez!
29 Therfor the kyng of Israel stiede, and Josaphat, kyng of Juda, in to Ramoth of Galaad.
Le roi d'Israël monta donc avec Josaphat, roi de Juda, à Ramoth de Galaad.
30 Therfor the kyng of Israel seide to Josephat, Take thou armeris, and entre thou in to batel, and be thou clothid in thi clothis, that is, noble signes of the kyng. Certis the kyng of Israel chaungide hise clothing, and entride in to batel.
Et le roi d'Israël dit à Josaphat: Je me déguiserai pour aller au combat; mais toi, revêts-toi de tes habits. Ainsi le roi d'Israël se déguisa et vint au combat.
31 Sotheli the kyng of Sirie hadde comaundid to two and thritti princes of charis, and seide, Ye schulen not fiyte ayens ony man lesse, ethir more, no but ayens the kyng of Israel oonli.
Or le roi des Syriens avait donné cet ordre aux trente-deux chefs de ses chars, disant: Vous n'attaquerez ni petit ni grand, mais seulement le roi d'Israël.
32 Therfor whanne the princes of charis hadden seyn Josephat, thei suposiden that he was king of Israel, and bi feersnesse maad thei fouyten ayens hym.
Sitôt donc que les chefs des chars eurent vu Josaphat, ils dirent: C'est certainement le roi d'Israël. Et ils tournèrent vers lui pour l'attaquer; mais Josaphat poussa un cri.
33 And Josephat criede; and the princis of charis vndurstoden, that it was not the king of Israel, and thei ceessiden fro hym.
Et quand les chefs des chars virent que ce n'était pas le roi d'Israël, ils se détournèrent de lui.
34 Sotheli sum man bente a bowe, and dresside an arowe in to vncerteyn, and bi hap he smoot the kyng of Israel bitwixe the lunge and the stomak. And the kyng seide to his charietere, Turne thin hond, and cast me out of the oost, for Y am woundid greuousli.
Alors un homme tira de son arc tout au hasard, et frappa le roi d'Israël entre les jointures de la cuirasse. Et le roi dit à son cocher: Tourne, et mène-moi hors des rangs; car je suis blessé.
35 Therfor batel was ioyned in that dai, and the kyng of Israel stood in his chare ayens men of Sirie, and he was deed at euentid. Forsothe the blood of the wounde fletide doun in to the bothome of the chare.
Or, en ce jour-là, le combat fut acharné et le roi fut retenu dans son char, vis-à-vis des Syriens; et il mourut sur le soir; et le sang de la blessure coula sur le fond du char.
36 And a criere sownede in al the oost, before that the sunne yede doun, and seide, Ech man turne ayen in to his citee, and in to his lond.
Et, comme le soleil se couchait, ce cri passa dans les rangs: Chacun à sa ville, et chacun à son pays!
37 Forsothe the kyng was deed, and was borun in to Samarie; and thei birieden the kyng of Samarie.
Le roi donc entra mort à Samarie; et on l'y ensevelit.
38 And thei waischiden his chare in the cisterne of Samarie, and doggis lickiden his blood, and thei wayschiden the reynes, bi the word of the Lord whiche he hadde spoke.
Et on lava le char dans l'étang de Samarie, et les chiens léchèrent son sang, comme aussi quand on lava ses armes, selon la parole que l'Éternel avait prononcée.
39 Sotheli the residue of wordis of Achab, and alle thingis whiche he dide, and the hows of yuer which he bildide, and of alle citees whiche he bildide, whether these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Israel?
Le reste des actions d'Achab, et tout ce qu'il fit, et la maison d'ivoire qu'il bâtit, et toutes les villes qu'il bâtit, tout cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Chroniques des rois d'Israël?
40 Therfor Achab slepte with hise fadris, and Ocozie, his sone, regnede for hym.
Et Achab s'endormit avec ses pères; et Achazia, son fils, régna à sa place.
41 Forsothe Josephat, sone of Asa, bigan to regne on Juda in the fourthe yeer of Achab, kyng of Israel.
Josaphat, fils d'Asa, avait commencé à régner sur Juda la quatrième année d'Achab, roi d'Israël.
42 Josephat was of fyue and thretti yeer, whanne he bigan to regne, and he regnede fyue and twenti yeer in Jerusalem; the name of his modir was Azuba, douyter of Salai.
Josaphat était âgé de trente-cinq ans quand il commença à régner, et il régna vingt-cinq ans à Jérusalem. Le nom de sa mère était Asuba, et elle était fille de Shilchi.
43 And he yede in al the weye of Asa, his fadir, and bowide not fro it; and he dide that, that was riytful in the siyt of the Lord. Netheles he dide not awey hiy thingis, for yit the puple made sacrifice, and brente encense in hiy places.
Il suivit entièrement la voie d'Asa, son père, et il ne s'en détourna point, faisant ce qui est droit aux yeux de l'Éternel. Seulement, les hauts lieux ne furent point détruits; le peuple y sacrifiait encore, et y offrait de l'encens.
44 And Josephat hadde pees with the king of Israel.
Josaphat fut en paix avec le roi d'Israël.
45 Sotheli the residue of wordis of Josephat, and the werkis and batels, whiche he dide, whethir these ben not writun in the book of wordis of daies of the kyngis of Juda?
Le reste des actions de Josaphat, les exploits qu'il fit et les guerres qu'il soutint, cela n'est-il pas écrit au livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?
46 But also he took awey fro the loond the relikis of men turned in to wymmens condiciouns, that leften in the daies of Aza, his fadir.
Quant au reste de ceux qui se prostituaient, qui étaient demeurés depuis le temps d'Asa, son père, il les fit disparaître du pays.
47 Nethir a kyng was ordeyned thanne in Edom.
Il n'y avait point alors de roi en Édom; mais le gouverneur était vice-roi.
48 Forsothe king Josephat made schippis in the see, that schulden seile in to Ophir for gold, and tho myyten not go, for thei weren brokun in Asiongaber.
Josaphat équipa une flotte de Tarsis, pour aller à Ophir chercher de l'or; mais on n'y alla point, parce que les navires furent brisés à Etsjon-Guéber.
49 Thanne Ocozie, sone of Achab, seide to Josephat, My seruauntis go with thine in schippis.
Alors Achazia, fils d'Achab, dit à Josaphat: Que mes serviteurs aillent avec les tiens sur les navires. Mais Josaphat ne le voulut pas.
50 And Josephat nolde. And Josephat slepte with hise fadris, and was biried with hem in the citee of Dauid, his fadir; and Joram, his sone, regnede for hym.
Et Josaphat s'endormit avec ses pères, et fut enseveli avec eux dans la cité de David, son père; et Joram, son fils, régna à sa place.
51 Forsothe Ocozie, sone of Achab, bigan to regne on Israel, in Samarie, in the seuenetenthe yeer of Josephat, kyng of Juda; and Ocozie regnede on Israel twei yeer.
Achazia, fils d'Achab, commença à régner sur Israël, à Samarie, la dix-septième année de Josaphat, roi de Juda; et il régna deux ans sur Israël.
52 And he dide yuel in the siyt of the Lord, and yede in the wey of his fadir, and of his modir, and in the weie of Jeroboam, sone of Nabath, that made Israel to do synne.
Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, et il marcha dans la voie de son père, et dans la voie de sa mère, et dans la voie de Jéroboam, fils de Nébat, qui avait fait pécher Israël.
53 And he seruyde Baal, and worschipide hym, and wraththide the Lord God of Israel, bi alle thingis whiche his fadir hadde do.
Il servit Baal et se prosterna devant lui; et il irrita l'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, comme l'avait fait son père.
