1 Kings 2
1 Forsothe the daies of Dauid neiyiden, that he schulde die; and he comaundide to Salomon, his sone, and seide, Lo!
Le jour où David allait mourir était proche; et il parla à son fils Salomon en ces termes:
2 Y entre in to the weie of al erthe; be thou coumfortid, and be thou a strong man.
Je m'en vais dans la voie de toute la terre; quant â toi, sois fort et agis en homme.
3 And kepe thou the kepyngis and heestis of thi Lord God, that thou go in hise weies, and kepe hise cerymonyes, and hise heestis, and hise domes, and witnessyngis, as it is writun in the lawe of Moises; that thou vndurstonde alle thingis whiche thou doist, and whidur euer thou schalt turne thee.
Observe les commandements du Seigneur ton Dieu, afin de marcher dans ses voies, de garder ses commandements, sa justice, ses jugements, et les préceptes qui sont écrits en la loi de Moïse; conduis-toi sagement en toutes choses, comme je te l'ai prescrit;
4 That the Lord conferme hise wordis, whiche the Lord spak of me, and seide, If thi sones kepen my weies, and goen bifor me in treuthe, in al her herte, and in al her soule, a man schal not be takun awei of thee fro the trone of Israel.
Afin que le Seigneur confirme la parole qu'il a dite: Si tes fils sont attentifs à suivre leur voie, devant moi, dans la vérité et de tout leur cœur, jamais il ne manquera d'homme issu de toi pour monter sur le trône d'Israël.
5 Also thou knowist what thingis Joab, the sone of Saruye, dide to me; what thingis he dide to twey princis of the oost of Israel, to Abner, sone of Ner, and to Amasa, sone of Jether, whiche he killide, and schedde the blood of batel in pees; and puttide the blood of batel in his girdil, that was aboute hise leendis, and in his scho, that was in hise feet.
Or, tu sais ce que m'a fait Joab, fils de Sarvia; tu sais comment il a traité les deux chefs de l'armée d'Israël: Abner, fils de Ner, et Amessaï, fils de Jéther. Il les a tués; le sang, réservé au combat, il l'a fait couler pendant la paix; il a versé le sang innocent sur la ceinture qui ceignait ses reins, et sur les sandales qui chaussaient ses pieds.
6 Therfor thou schalt do by thi wisdom, and thou schalt not lede forth his hoornesse pesibli to hellis. (Sheol h7585)
Tu feras ce que t'inspirera ta sagesse, et tu ne laisseras pas sa vieillesse descendre en paix au tombeau. (Sheol h7585)
7 But also thou schalt yelde grace to the sones of Bersellai of Galaad, and thei schulen be eetynge in thi boord; for thei metten me, whanne Y fledde fro the face of Absolon, thi brother.
Et tu seras bienveillant pour les fils de Berzelli le Galaadite; ils seront de ceux qui mangeront à ta table, car c'est ainsi qu'ils ont agi envers moi quand je fuyais devant Absalon ton frère.
8 Also thou hast anentis thee Semey, sone of Gera, sone of Gemyny, of Bahurym, which Semei curside me bi the worste cursyng, whanne Y yede to `the castels; but for he cam doun to me in to metyng, whanne Y passide Jordan, and Y swoor to him bi the Lord, and seide, Y schal not slee thee bi swerd,
Tu vois avec toi Sémeï, fils de Géra, de la famille de Jémini de Bathurim; c'est lui qui m'a poursuivi de malédictions bien amères, le jour où je m'en allais au camp; à mon retour, il est venu à ma rencontre vers le Jourdain; je lui ai alors prêté serment au nom du Seigneur, et j'ai dit: Je ne te ferai point mourir par l'épée.
9 nyle thou suffre hym to be vnpunyschid; forsothe thou art a wise man, and thou schalt wite what thou schalt do to hym, and thou schalt lede forth hise hoor heeris with blood to hellis. (Sheol h7585)
Tu ne l'innocenteras point, car tu es un homme sage; tu sauras comment le traiter, et tu feras descendre sa vieillesse au tombeau dans le sang. (Sheol h7585)
10 Sotheli Dauid slepte with hise fadris, and was biriede in the citee of Dauid.
Et David s'endormit avec ses pères, et il fut enseveli dans la ville de David.
11 Forsothe the daies, in whiche Dauid regnede on Israel, ben fourti yeer; in Ebron he regned seuene yeer, in Jerusalem thre and thretti yeer.
Les jours du règne de David sur Israël formèrent quarante ans; il régna sept ans à Hébron et trente-trois ans à Jérusalem.
12 Forsothe Salomon sat on the trone of Dauid, his fadir, and his rewme was maad stidfast greetli.
Et Salomon s'assit sur le trône de David son père, et son règne était parfaitement préparé.
13 And Adonye, sone of Agith, entride to Bersabee, modir of Salomon; and sche seide to hym, Whether thin entryng is pesible? And he answeride, It is pesible.
Ensuite, Adonias, fils d'Aggith, entra chez Bethsabée, mère de Salomon; il se prosterna devant elle, et elle lui dit: En entrant, nous apportes-tu la paix? Et il répondit: La paix;
14 And he addide, A word of me is to thee. `To whom sche seide, Speke thou.
J'ai à te dire un mot. Parle, reprit-elle.
15 And he seide, Thou knowist that the rewme was myn, and al Israel purposide to make me in to king to hem; but the rewme is translatid, and is maad my brotheris; for of the Lord it is ordeyned to hym.
Tu sais, lui dit-il, que la royauté m'appartenait, et que tout Israël avait jeté les yeux sur moi pour que je régnasse; mais la royauté a été détournée de moi, et elle a passé à mon frère, parce que telle était la volonté du Seigneur.
16 Now therfor Y preye of the oon axyng; schende thou not my face. And sche seide to hym, Speke thou. And he seide, Y preie,
Maintenant, j'ai à te faire une seule demande; ne détourne pas de moi ton visage. Et Bethsabée lui dit: Parle.
17 that thou seie to Salomon the king; for he may not denye ony thing to thee; that he yyue to me Abisag of Sunam wijf.
Et il continua: Parle au roi Salomon; car il ne détournera pas de toi son visage; qu'il me donne pour femme Abisag la Sunamite.
18 And Bersabee seide, Wel, Y schal speke for thee to the kyng.
A quoi Bethsabée reprit: Bien; je parlerai au roi en ta faveur.
19 Therfor Bersabee cam to kyng Salomon, to speke to hym for Adonye; and the kyng roos ayens the comyng of hir, and worschipide hir, and `sat on his trone; and a trone was set to the modir of the kyng, and sche sat at his riyt side.
Bethsabée alla trouver le roi Salomon, afin de lui parler en faveur d'Adonias. Le roi se leva, alla au-devant d'elle, la baisa et s'assit sur son trône; puis on plaça un trône pour la mère du roi, et elle s'assit à sa droite.
20 And sche seide to hym, Y preie of thee o litil axyng; schende thou not my face. And the kyng seide to hir, My modir, axe thou; for it is not leueful that Y turne awei thi face.
Et elle lui dit: J'ai à te faire une petite demande; ne repousse pas mon visage. Et le roi répondit: Demande, ma mère, et je ne te repousserai point.
21 And sche seide, Abisag of Sunam be youun wijf to Adonye, thi brother.
Et elle dit: Que la Sunamite Abisag soit donnée pour femme à ton frère Adonias.
22 And kyng Salomon answeride, and seide to his modir, Whi axist thou Abisag of Sunam to Adonye? Axe thou to hym also the rewme; for he is `my gretter brothir, and he hath Abiathar, preest, and Joab, sone of Saruye.
Le roi Salomon répondit, et il dit à sa mère: Pourquoi as-tu demandé Abisag pour Adonias? Demande aussi pour lui la royauté, car il est mon frère, il est plus âgé que moi, et il a pour compagnon Abiathar le prêtre, et Joab, fils de Sarvia, général en chef.
23 Therfor kyng Salomon swoor bi the Lord, and seide, God do to me these thingis, and adde these thinges, for Adonie spak this word ayens his lijf.
Et le roi jura au nom du Seigneur, disant: Que le Seigneur me punisse, et qu'il me punisse encore, si, en faisant cette demande, Adonias n'a pas parlé contre sa vie.
24 And now the Lord lyueth, that confermede me, and hath set me on the trone of my fadir, and that hath maad to me an hows, as he spak, for Adonye schal be slayn to dai.
Maintenant, vive le Seigneur qui m'a préparé, qui m'a placé sur le trône de David mon père, qui a établi ma maison comme il l'avait promis! aujourd'hui même Adonias mourra.
25 And kyng Salomon sente bi the hond of Banaie, sone of Joiada; which Banaie killide Adonye, and he was deed.
Salomon confia l'exécution de ce dessein à Banaïas, fils de Joïada. Celui- ci tua Adonias, qui mourut le jour même.
26 Also the kyng seide to Abiathar, preest, Go thou in to Anatot, to thi feeld; and sotheli thou art a man of deeth, `that is, worthi the deeth, for conspiryng ayens me, and the ordynaunce of God, and of my fadir; but to dai Y schal not sle thee, for thou barist the arke of the Lord God bifor Dauid, my fadir, and thou suffridist trauele in alle thingis, in whiche my fadir trauelide.
Et le roi dit à Abiathar le prêtre: Retourne vite à ton champ en Astaroth, car tu es, en ce jour-ci, un homme digne de mort; toutefois, je ne te ferai point périr, parce que tu as porté devant mon père l'arche de l'alliance du Seigneur, et que tu as souffert en tout ce qu'a souffert David.
27 Therfor Salomon puttide out Abiathar, that he schulde not be preest of the Lord, that the word of the Lord were fillid, which he spak on the hows of Heli, in Silo.
Et Salomon interdit le sacerdoce à Abiathar, pour que s'accomplît la parole que le Seigneur avait prononcée contre la maison d'Héli.
28 Forsothe a messager cam to Salomon, that Joab hadde bowid aftir Adonye, and that he hadde not bowid after Salomon. Therfor Joab fledde in to the tabernacle of the Lord, and took the horn of the auter.
La nouvelle en arriva jusqu'à Joab, fils de Sarvia; or, Joab avait été l'un des convives d'Adonias, et il ne s'était point rapproché de Salomon. Joab se réfugia dans le tabernacle du Seigneur, et il embrassa la corne de l'autel.
29 And it was teld to kyng Salomon, that Joab hadde fledde in to the tabernacle of the Lord, and was bisidis the auter; and Salomon sente Banaie, sone of Joiada, and seide, Go thou, and sle hym.
Et l'on vint l'annoncer au roi Salomon; on lui dit: Joab s'est réfugié dans le tabernacle du Seigneur, et le voilà qui tient la corne de l'autel. Aussitôt, Salomon envoya auprès de Joab, et il lui dit: Que t'arrive-t-il, pour que tu te réfugies à l'autel? Joab répondit: J'ai eu crainte de toi, et je me suis réfugié auprès du Seigneur. Et Salomon envoya Banaïas, fils de Joïada, disant: Va, tue-le, et ensevelis-le.
30 And Banaie cam to the tabernacle of the Lord, and seide to Joab, The kyng seith these thingis, Go thou out. And he seide, Y schal not go out, but Y schal die here. Banaie telde the word to the kyng, and seide, Joab spak thes thingis, and answeride these thingis to me.
Banaïas, fils de Joïada, alla trouver Joab dans le tabernacle du Seigneur, et il lui dit: Voici ce que dit le roi: Sors; mais Joab répondit: Je ne sortirai point, c'est ici que je mourrai. Banaïas retourna chez le roi, et il lui dit: Voici ce que j'ai dit à Joab, voici ce qu'il m'a répondu.
31 And the kyng seide to Banaie, Do thou as he spak, and sle thou hym, and birie him; and thou schalt remoue the innocent blood, that was sched out of Joab, fro me, and fro the hows of my fadir.
Le roi reprit: Va et fais-lui comme il a dit: Tue-le, ensevelis-le, et tu auras aujourd'hui détourné de moi et de la maison de mon père le sang que Joab a versé sans motif.
32 And the Lord yelde on his heed his blood, for he killide twei iust men, and betere than hym silf, and he killide hem bi swerd, while Dauid, my fadir, `wiste not, Abner, the sone of Ner, the prince of the chyualrie of Israel, and Amasa, sone of Jether, the prince of the oost of Juda.
Le Seigneur a ramené sur sa tête le sang de son iniquité, car il est allé à la rencontre de deux hommes plus justes et meilleurs que lui; il les a fait périr par le glaive, et mon père David ne savait rien du meurtre d'Abner, fils de Ner, général en chef d'Israël, ni du meurtre d'Amessaï, fils de Jéther, général en chef de Juda.
33 And the blood of hem schal turne ayen in to the heed of Joab, and in to the heed of his seed with outen ende; forsothe pees be of the Lord til in to with outen ende to Dauid, and to his seed, and to the hous and trone of hym.
Leur sang est retombé sur sa tête, et sur la tête de sa postérité à jamais. Que la paix du Seigneur soit toujours avec David, avec sa race, avec sa maison et avec son trône.
34 Therfor Banaie, sone of Joiada, stiede, and asailide, and killide Joab; and Joab was biried in his hows in deseert.
Et Banaïas, fils de Joïada, alla retrouver Joab; il le tua, et il l'inhuma dans sa maison près du désert.
35 And the kyng ordeynede Banaie, sone of Joiada, on the oost for hym; and the kyng puttide Sadoch preest for Abiathar.
Le roi, à sa place, donna le commandement de l'armée à Banaïas, et la royauté fut affermie dans Jérusalem. Sadoc fut premier prêtre à la place d'Abiathar.
36 Also the kyng sente, and clepide Semey, and seide to hym, Bilde to thee an hows in Jerusalem, and dwelle thou there, and thou schalt not go out fro thennus hidur and thidur;
Et le roi appela Semeï, et il lui dit: Bâtis pour toi une maison dans Jérusalem, demeures-y, et de là tu n'iras en aucun lieu.
37 sotheli in what euer dai thou goist out, and passist the stronde of Cedron, wite thou thee worthi to be slayn; thi blood schal be on thin heed.
Le jour où tu en sortirais, où tu passerais le torrent de Cédron, sache-le bien, tu mourrais de mort; et ton sang retomberait sur ta tête. Et le roi, ce jour-là, lui fit prêter serment.
38 And Semei seide to the kyng, The word of the kyng is good; as my lord the kyng spak, so thi seruaunt schal do. Therfor Semey dwellide in Jerusalem in many daies.
Ensuite, Sémeï dit au roi: La parole que tu as dite est bonne, ô roi mon maître, ainsi fera ton serviteur. Et Sémeï demeura trois ans à Jérusalem.
39 Forsothe it was doon after thre yeer, that the seruauntis of Semei fledden to Achis, sone of Maacha, the kyng of Geth; and it was teld to Semey, that hise seruauntis hadden go in to Geth.
Après trois ans, deux serviteurs de Sémeï s'enfuirent chez Achis, fils de Maacha, roi de Geth. On l'apprit à Sémeï en lui disant: Voilà tes serviteurs à Geth.
40 And Semey roos, and sadlide his asse, and yede to Achis, in to Geth, to seke hise seruauntis; and brouyte hem ayen fro Geth.
Et Sémeï se leva, bâta son ânesse et, s'en alla chez Achis à Geth, pour réclamer ses deux serviteurs; puis il revint, et les ramena de Geth.
41 Forsothe it was teld to kyng Salomon, that Semey hadde go to Geth fro Jerusalem, and hadde come ayen.
Or, on l'apprit à Salomon en lui disant: Sémeï est allé de Jérusalem à Geth, et il a ramené ses serviteurs.
42 And Salomon sente, and clepide hym, and seide to hym, Whether Y witnessede not to thee bi the Lord, and bifor seide to thee, In what euer dai thou schalt go out hidur and thidur, wite thou that thou schalt die; and thou answeridist to me, The word is good, which Y herde?
Aussitôt, le roi envoya querir Sémeï, et il lui dit: Ne t'ai-je point fait prêter serment par le Seigneur, ne t'ai-je pas attesté, disant: Le jour où tu sortiras de Jérusalem, où tu iras à droite ou à gauche, sache-le bien, tu mourras?
43 Whi therfor keptist thou not the ooth of the Lord, and the comaundement which Y comaundide to thee?
Pourquoi n'as-tu point gardé le serment du Seigneur, et le commandement que je t'avais donné?
44 And the kyng seide to Semei, Thou knowist al the yuel, of which thin herte is gilti to thee, which yuel thou didist to my fadir; the Lord hath yolde thi malice in to thin heed.
Et le roi ajouta: Tu connais, ton cœur sait tout le mal que tu as fait à David mon père; le Seigneur a fait retomber ta méchanceté sur ta tête.
45 And kyng Salomon schal be blessid; and the trone of Dauid schal be stable bifor the Lord til in to with outen ende.
Cependant, Salomon est béni, et le trône de David est affermi devant le Seigneur à jamais.
46 Therfor the kyng comaundide to Banaie, sone of Joiada; and he assailide, and smoot Semey, and he was deed.
Et le roi donna ses ordres à Banaïas, fils de Joïada, qui sortit avec Sémeï et le tua. Le roi Salomon était doué d'une grande intelligence et d'une grande sagesse.
