1 Corinthians 1
1 Poul, clepid apostle of Jhesu Crist, bi the wille of God, and Sostenes, brothir, to the chirche of God that is at Corynthe,
Milí přátelé a drazí bratři, srdečně vás zdravím a zároveň i od Sosthena vyřizuji přání Boží milosti a pokoje – nejen vám v Korintu, ale i všem, kteří se kdekoliv hlásí ke Kristovu jménu.
2 to hem that ben halewid in Crist Jhesu, and clepid seyntis, with alle that inwardli clepen the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, in ech place of hem and of oure,
3 grace to you and pees of God, oure fadir, and of the Lord Jhesu Crist.
4 Y do thankyngis to my God eueremore for you, in the grace of God that is youun to you in Crist Jhesu.
Stále znovu musím děkovat Bohu, když vidím, jaké cenné hodnoty zplodilo mezi vámi svědectví o Ježíši Kristu.
5 For in alle thingis ye ben maad riche in hym, in ech word, and in ech kunnyng,
Právě tím se potvrdila jeho pravdivost, takže teď víte a znáte všechno, co je třeba.
6 as the witnessyng of Crist is confermyd in you;
Zbývá jen jedno: s touhou vyhlížet návrat našeho Pána, Ježíše Krista.
7 so that no thing faile to you in ony grace, that abiden the schewyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist;
8 which also schal conferme you in to the ende with outen cryme, in the dai of the comyng of oure Lord Jhesu Crist.
On vám dá také sílu vydržet až do konce, takže se toho dne určitě dočkáte bez úhony.
9 `A trewe God, bi whom ye ben clepid in to the felouschipe of his sone Jhesu Crist oure Lord.
Vždyť ke společenství s Kristem nás povolal přece sám Bůh – můžeme snad mít lepší záruku?
10 But, britheren, Y biseche you, bi the name of oure Lord Jhesu Crist, that ye alle seie the same thing, and that dissenciouns be not among you; but be ye perfit in the same wit, and in the same kunnyng.
Doslechl jsem se, milí bratři, že vaše obec není jednotná a že se dělíte na skupiny, které se mezi sebou hádají.
11 For, my britheren, it is teld to me of hem that ben at Cloes, that stryues ben among you.
12 And Y seie that, that ech of you seith, For Y am of Poul, and Y am of Apollo, and Y am of Cefas, but Y am of Crist.
Jedni prý vynášíte Pavla, jiní držíte s Petrem, jiní se hlásí k Apollovi a jiní zase ke Kristu. Proto vás jménem našeho Pána, Ježíše Krista, napomínám: buďte všichni zajedno a nehádejte se. Smýšlejte a usuzujte stejně;
13 Whether Crist is departid? whether Poul was crucified for you, ether ye ben baptisid in the name of Poul?
Kristus je přece jen jeden. Byl snad za vás ukřižován Pavel? Nebo jsem snad někoho křtil ve svém vlastním jménu?
14 Y do thankyngis to my God, that Y baptiside noon of you, but Crispus and Gayus;
Ještě dobře, že jsem kromě Krispa a Gája nikoho z vás nekřtil,
15 lest ony man seie, that ye ben baptisid in my name.
takže se na můj křest nemůže nikdo odvolávat.
16 And Y baptiside also the hous of Stephan, but Y woot not, that Y baptiside ony other.
Vlastně jsem křtil ještě Štěpánovu rodinu, ale jinak už o nikom nevím.
17 For Crist sente me not to baptise, but to preche the gospel; not in wisdom of word, that the cros of Crist be not voidid awei.
Kristus mě totiž neposlal křtít, ale hlásat jeho radostné poselství; ne ovšem tak, abych posluchače oslňoval svou moudrostí, která nikomu nepomůže, nýbrž abych jim předkládal jedinou cestu k záchraně – jeho kříž.
18 For the word of the cros is foli to hem that perischen; but to hem that ben maad saaf, that is to seie, to vs, it is the vertu of God.
Kdo směřuje do záhuby, má ovšem učení o Kristově kříži za hloupost. Ale my víme – a to je naše záchrana, že Bůh právě tímto způsobem projevil svou moc.
19 For it is writun, Y schal distruye the wisdom of wise men, and Y schal reproue the prudence of prudent men.
V Písmu stojí: „Způsobím, že moudrým nepomůže jejich moudrost a chytrost chytrých nebude k ničemu.“
20 Where is the wise man? where is the wise lawiere? where is the purchasour of this world? Whether God hath not maad the wisdom of this world fonned? (aiōn g165)
Kde jste, filozofové, znalci zákona a všichni učenci? Nedokázal Bůh, jak pošetilá je všechna moudrost světa? (aiōn g165)
21 For the world in wisdom of God knewe not God bi wisdom, it pleside to God, bi foli of prechyng, `to maken hem saaf that bileueden.
A protože přemoudřelému světu nestačily projevy Boží moudrosti k poznání Boha, rozhodl se Bůh zachránit ty, kdo mu uvěří, „pošetilým“kázáním.
22 For Jewis seken signes, and Grekis seken wisdom;
Židé čekají jen samé zázraky, Řekové ve všem hledají logiku,
23 but we prechen Crist crucified, to Jewis sclaundre, and to hethene men foli;
ale my kážeme – ukřižovaného Krista. Židy to uráží a ostatní to pokládají za nesmysl.
24 but to tho Jewis and Grekis that ben clepid, we prechen Crist the vertu of God and the wisdom of God.
Ale povolaní, ať židé či jinověrci, získávají v Kristu Boží moc i moudrost.
25 For that that is foli thing of God, is wiser than men; and that that is the feble thing of God, is strengere than men.
Boží „pošetilost“je totiž moudřejší a Boží „nemohoucnost“je silnější než lidé.
26 But, britheren, se ye youre clepyng; for not many wise men aftir the fleisch, not many myyti, not many noble.
Jen se kolem sebe rozhlédněte, bratři, koho si to vlastně Bůh povolal. Zjistíte, že mezi vámi není mnoho vzdělanců ani lidí vlivných a vážených.
27 But God chees tho thingis that ben fonned of the world, to confounde wise men;
A přece si Bůh vyvolil právě ty nevzdělané, aby zahanbil moudré. Obyčejné malé lidi si vyvolil, aby zahanbil vlivné a mocné,
28 and God chees the feble thingis of the world, to confounde the stronge thingis; and God chees the vnnoble thingis `and dispisable thingis of the world, and tho thingis that ben not, to distruye tho thingis that ben;
a bezvýznamné „nuly“si vybral, aby zlomil moc pyšných domýšlivců.
29 that ech man haue not glorie in his siyt.
A to všechno proto, aby se před Bohem nikdo nepovyšoval.
30 But of hym ye ben in Crist Jhesu, which is maad of God to vs wisdom, and riytwisnesse, and holynesse, and ayenbiyng; that,
Vždyť jen z vašeho spojení s Ježíšem Kristem pramení vaše moudrost, bezúhonnost, svatost i vykoupení. Opravdu se nemáme chlubit ničím jiným než Kristem,
31 as it is wrytun, He that glorieth, haue glorie in the Lord.
jak nás i Písmo napomíná: Kdo se chlubí, chlub se skutky Božími.
