Philemon 1
1 Paul a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy a brother, to Philemon our beloved brother and fellow-laborer, and to the beloved Apphia,
Paulus, een gevangene van Christus Jezus, en Timotheus, de broeder, aan Filemon, den geliefde, en onzen medearbeider,
2 and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thine house,
En aan Appia, de geliefde, en aan Archippus, onzen medestrijder, en aan de Gemeente, die te uwen huize is:
3 grace and peace be to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
Genade zij ulieden en vrede van God, onzen Vader, en den Heere Jezus Christus.
4 I thank my God always making mention of thee in my prayers,
Ik dank mijn God, uwer altijd gedachtig zijnde in mijn gebeden;
5 (hearing of the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and of thy love to all the saints, )
Alzo ik hoor uw liefde en geloof, hetwelk gij hebt aan den Heere Jezus, en jegens al de heiligen;
6 that the communication of thy faith may become effectual in the acknowledgement of all the good that is in you towards Christ Jesus:
Opdat de gemeenschap uws geloofs krachtig worde in de bekendmaking van alle goed, hetwelk in ulieden is door Christus Jezus.
7 for we have much joy and comfort in thy love, because by thee, dear brother, the bowels of the saints are refreshed.
Want wij hebben grote vreugde en vertroosting over uw liefde, dat de ingewanden der heiligen verkwikt zijn geworden door u, broeder!
8 Wherefore though I have sufficient authority in Christ to enjoin thee what is meet,
Daarom, hoewel ik grote vrijmoedigheid heb in Christus, om u te bevelen, hetgeen betamelijk is;
9 I would rather intreat thee out of love to me, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner too for the sake of Jesus Christ.
Zo bid ik nochtans liever door de liefde, daar ik zodanig een ben, te weten Paulus, een oud man, en nu ook een gevangene van Jezus Christus.
10 I intreat thee then for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds,
Ik bid u dan voor mijn zoon, denwelken ik in mijn banden heb geteeld, namelijk Onesimus;
11 who was formerly unprofitable to thee, but now profitable both to thee and to me; whom I have sent back to thee:
Die eertijds u onnut was, maar nu u en mij zeer nuttig; denwelken ik wedergezonden heb;
12 him therefore, as my own bowels, do thou receive.
Doch gij, neem hem, dat is mijn ingewanden, weder aan;
13 Whom I would gladly have kept with me, that he might have ministered unto me as thou wouldst have done, in the bonds of the gospel.
Denwelken ik wel had willen bij mij behouden, opdat hij mij voor u dienen zou in de banden des Evangelies.
14 But I would do nothing without thy knowledge, that thy kindness might not be as it were forced, but voluntary.
Maar ik heb zonder uw goedvinden niets willen doen, opdat uw goeddadigheid niet zou zijn als naar bedwang, maar naar vrijwilligheid.
15 For perhaps he was therefore parted from thee for a season, that thou mightest receive him for ever: (aiōnios g166)
Want veellicht is hij daarom voor een kleinen tijd van u gescheiden geweest, opdat gij hem eeuwig zoudt weder hebben. (aiōnios g166)
16 not now as a servant, but above a servant, a dear brother, especially to me, and how much more to thee both in the flesh and in the Lord.
Nu voortaan niet als een dienstknecht, maar meer dan een dienstknecht, namelijk een geliefden broeder, inzonderheid mij, hoeveel te meer dan u, beide in het vlees en in den Heere.
17 If therefore thou accountest me a friend, receive him as thou wouldst receive me.
Indien gij mij dan houdt voor een metgezel, zo neem hem aan, gelijk als mij.
18 If he hath wronged thee in any thing, or is indebted to thee, place it to my accompt:
En indien hij u iets verongelijkt heeft, of schuldig is, reken dat mij toe.
19 I Paul have written it with my own hand, I will pay it: not to say that thou indeed owest even thy own self to me.
Ik, Paulus, heb het geschreven met deze mijn hand, ik zal het betalen; opdat ik u niet zegge, dat gij ook uzelven mij daartoe schuldig zijt.
20 Yea, my brother, let me enjoy this satisfaction from thee in the Lord: and thus refresh my bowels in the Lord.
Ja, broeder, laat mij uwer hierin genieten in den Heere; verkwik mijn ingewanden in den Heere.
21 Being fully persuaded of thy compliance, I have written to thee; knowing that thou wilt indeed do more than I ask.
Ik heb aan u geschreven, vertrouwende op uw gehoorzaamheid; en ik weet, dat gij doen zult ook boven hetgeen ik zeg.
22 But I must add, prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that through your prayers I shall be restored to you.
En bereid mij ook tegelijk een herberg; want ik hoop, dat ik door uw gebeden ulieden zal geschonken worden.
23 Epaphras my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus, and Marcus,
U groeten Epafras, mijn medegevangene in Christus Jezus,
24 Aristarchus, Demas, and Luke my fellow-laborers, salute thee.

25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
De genade van onzen Heere Jezus Christus zij met uw geest. Amen.
