Matthew 1
1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

6 and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David the king, and David had Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah.

7 And Solomon begat Roboam, and Roboam begat Abia,

8 and Abia begat Asa, and Asa begat Josaphat, and Josaphat begat Joram,
Asa alimzaa Yehoshafati, Yehoshafati alimzaa Yoramu, Yoramu alimzaa Uzia,
9 and Joram begat Ozias, and Ozias begat Joatham, and Joatham begat Ahaz, and Ahaz begat Ezechias,
Uzia alimzaa Yothamu, Yothamu alimzaa Ahazi, Ahazi alimzaa Hezekia,
10 and Ezechias begat Manasses, and Manasses begat Amon,
Hezekia alimzaa Manase, Manase alimzaa Amoni, Amoni alimzaa Yosia,
11 and Amon begat Josias, and Josias begat Jakim, and Jakim begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time of their being carried away to Babylon.

12 And after the captivity of Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel,

15 and Achim begat Eliud, and Eliud begat Eleazar, and Eleazar begat Matthan, and Matthan begat Jacob,

16 and Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ.
Yakobo alimzaa Yosefu, aliyekuwa mume wake Maria, mama yake Yesu, aitwaye Kristo.
17 All the generations therefore from Abraham to David are fourteen generations: and from David until the captivity of Babylon fourteen generations: and from the Babylonish captivity unto Christ, fourteen generations.
Basi, kulikuwa na vizazi kumi na vinne tangu Abrahamu mpaka Daudi, vizazi kumi na vinne tangu Daudi mpaka Wayahudi walipochukuliwa mateka Babuloni, na vizazi kumi na vinne tangu kuchukuliwa mateka mpaka wakati wa Kristo.
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was in wise: when Mary his mother was promised in marriage to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Ghost:
Basi, hivi ndivyo Yesu Kristo alivyozaliwa: Maria, mama yake, alikuwa ameposwa na Yosefu. Lakini kabla hawajakaa pamoja kama mume na mke, alionekana kuwa mja mzito kwa uwezo wa Roho Mtakatifu.
19 but Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing publicly to expose her, was inclined to break off the contract with her privately;
Yosefu, mumewe, kwa vile alikuwa mwadilifu, hakutaka kumwaibisha hadharani; hivyo alikusudia kumwacha kwa siri.
20 and when he was thinking on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph thou Son of David, scruple not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
Alipokuwa bado anawaza jambo hilo, malaika wa Bwana alimtokea katika ndoto, akamwambia, “Yosefu, mwana wa Daudi, usiogope kumchukua Maria awe mke wako, maana amekuwa mja mzito kwa uwezo wa Roho Mtakatifu.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.
Atajifungua mtoto wa kiume, nawe utampa jina Yesu, kwa kuwa yeye atawaokoa watu wake kutoka katika dhambi zao.”
22 (Now all this came to pass, that it might be fulfilled, which the Lord spake by the prophet, saying,
Basi, haya yote yalitukia ili litimie lile neno Bwana alilosema kwa njia ya nabii:
23 "Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel," which is God with us.)
“Bikira atachukua mimba, atamzaa mtoto wa kiume, naye ataitwa Emanueli” (maana yake, “Mungu yu pamoja nasi”).
24 So Joseph, when he awoke from his sleep, did as the angel of the Lord directed him, and took home his wife:
Hivyo, Yosefu alipoamka usingizini alifanya kama malaika huyo alivyomwambia, akamchukua mke wake nyumbani.
25 and he knew her not, till she brought forth her Son the first-born, and he called his name Jesus.
Lakini hakumjua kamwe kimwili hata Maria alipojifungua mtoto wa kiume. Naye Yosefu akampa jina Yesu.
