Matthew 27
1 And as soon as it was morning all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, how to get Him executed:
| ויהי לפנות הבקר ויתיעצו כל ראשי הכהנים וזקני העם על ישוע להמיתו׃ |
2 so they bound Him and led Him away, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate the Roman governor.
| ויאסרו אתו ויוליכהו משם וימסרהו אל פונטיוס פילטוס ההגמון׃ |
3 Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, when he saw that He was condemned, being struck with remorse, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders,
| וירא יהודה המסר אותו כי הרשיעהו וינחם וישב את שלשים הכסף אל הכהנים הגדולים והזקנים לאמר׃ |
4 saying, I have sinned, for I have betrayed innocent blood: but they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
| חטאתי כי דם נקי הסגרתי והם אמרו מה לנו ולזאת אתה תראה׃ |
5 And he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
| וישלך את הכסף אל ההיכל ויפן וילך ויחנק׃ |
6 But the chief priests took up the pieces of silver, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury of the temple, because it is the price of blood:
| ויקחו ראשי הכהנים את הכסף ויאמרו לא נכון לנו לתתו אל ארון הקרבן כי מחיר דמים הוא׃ |
7 so they consulted together, and bought with them the potter's field for a burying-ground for strangers:
| ויתיעצו ויקנו בו את שדה היוצר לקבורת הגרים׃ |
8 and therefore that field is called the field of blood to this day.
| על כן שם השדה ההוא שדה הדם עד היום הזה׃ |
9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was estimated, on whom the children of Israel set the price,
| אז נתמלא מה שנאמר ביד ירמיה הנביא ויקחו שלשים הכסף אדר היקר אשר יקר מעל בני ישראל׃ |
10 and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
| ויתנו אתם אל שדה היוצר כאשר צוני יהוה׃ |
11 And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked Him, saying, Art thou the king of the Jews? And Jesus answered him, It is as thou sayest.
| וישוע העמד לפני ההגמון וישאלהו ההגמון לאמר האתה הוא מלך היהודים ויאמר ישוע אתה אמרת׃ |
12 And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.
| וידברו עליו שטנה הכהנים הגדולים והזקנים והוא לא ענה דבר׃ |
13 Then saith Pilate to Him, Dost thou not hear how many things they witness against thee?
| ויאמר אליו פילטוס האינך שמע כמה הם מעידים בך׃ |
14 but He answered him not one word: so that the governor was much astonished.
| ולא ענהו אף דבר אחד ויתמה ההגמון עד מאד׃ |
15 Now the governor used at the feast to release a prisoner to the people, whomsoever they desired:
| ומנהג ההגמון היה לפטר לעם בכל חג אסיר אחד את אשר יחפצו׃ |
16 and they had then a notorious malefactor named Barabbas.
| ובעת ההיא היה להם אסיר ידוע ושמו בר אבא׃ |
17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you?
| ויהי כאשר נקהלו ויאמר אליהם פילטוס את מי תחפצו כי אפטר לכם את בר אבא או את ישוע הנקרא בשם משיח׃ |
18 Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ? for he knew that out of envy they had delivered Him up.
| כי ידע אשר רק מקנאה מסרו אתו׃ |
19 (And while he was sitting on the tribunal, his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that righteous man: for I have suffered much in a dream to day on his account.)
| ויהי כשבתו על כסא הדין ותשלח אליו אשתו לאמר אל יהי לך דבר עם הצדיק הזה כי בעבורו עניתי הרבה היום בחלום׃ |
20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the common people to ask for Barabbas, and so to destroy Jesus.
| והכהנים הגדולים והזקנים פתו את המון העם לשאל להם את בר אבא ולאבד את ישוע׃ |
21 And the governor said to them, Which of the two would you have me release to you? and they said, Barabbas.
| ויען ההגמון ויאמר אליהם את מי משניהם תחפצו כי אפטר לכם ויאמרו את בר אבא׃ |
22 What shall I do then, saith Pilate, with Jesus, who is called Christ? They all cried out, Let Him be crucified.
| ויאמר אליהם פילטוס ומה אעשה לישוע הנקרא בשם משיח ויענו כלם יצלב׃ |
23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath He done? but they cried out the more, saying, Let Him be crucified.
| ויאמר ההגמון מה אפוא הרעה אשר עשה ויוסיפו עוד צעק לאמר יצלב׃ |
24 Pilate seeing that he prevailed nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just man, look ye to it:
| ויהי כראות פילטוס כי לא יועיל מאומה ורבתה עוד המהודה ויקח מים וירחץ את ידיו לעיני העם ויאמר נקי אנכי מדם הצדיק הזה אתם תראו׃ |
25 and all the people answered and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
| ויענו כל העם ויאמרו דמו עלינו ועל בנינו׃ |
26 Then he released to them Barabbas: but he ordered Jesus to be scourged, and delivered Him to be crucified.
| אז פטר להם את בר אבא ואת ישוע הכה בשוטים וימסר אותו להצלב׃ |
27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the hall, and gathered the whole band about Him:
| ויקחו אנשי הצבא אשר להגמון את ישוע ויביאהו אל בית המשפט ויאספו עליו את כל הגדוד׃ |
28 and when they had stript Him, they covered Him with a scarlet robe;
| ויפשיטו אותו את בגדיו ויעטפהו מעיל שני׃ |
29 and having platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they bowed the knee before Him in derision, saying, Hail king of the Jews:
| וישרגו קצים ויעשו עטרת וישימו על ראשו וקנה בימינו ויכרעו לפניו ויתלוצצו בו לאמר שלום לך מלך היהודים׃ |
30 and they spit upon Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head.
| וירקו בו ויקחו את הקנה ויכהו על ראשו׃ |
31 And after they had thus abused Him, they took off the scarlet robe from Him, and put on Him his own clothes, and led Him away to be crucified.
| ואחרי התלוצצם בו הפשיטו אותו את המעיל וילבישהו את בגדיו ויוליכהו לצלב׃ |
32 And as they were going along they met with a man of Cyrene, whose name was Simon; and forced him to carry the cross.
| ויהי בצאתם וימצאו איש קוריני ושמו שמעון ויאנסו אתו לשאת לו את צלבו׃ |
33 And when they were come to a place called Golgotha, that is to say,
| ויבאו אל המקום הנקרא גלגלתא הוא מקום גלגלת׃ |
34 the place of a skull, they gave Him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: but when He had tasted it, He would not drink.
| ויתנו לו לשתות חמץ מזוג במרורה ויטעם ולא אבה לשתות׃ |
35 And after they had fixed Him to the cross, they parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
| ויהי כאשר צלבו אותו ויחלקו להם את בגדיו וגורל הפילו למלאת את אשר נאמר בפי הנביא יחלקו בגדי להם ועל לבושי יפילו גורל׃ |
36 And they sat down and watched Him there: and put up over his head his accusation in writing,
| וישבו שמה וישמרו אותו׃ |
37 THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
| וישימו את דבר אשמתו כתוב ממעל לראשו זה הוא ישוע מלך היהודים׃ |
38 And there were two thieves crucified with Him: one on his right hand, and one on the left.
| ויצלבו אתו שני פריצים אחד לימינו ואחד לשמאלו׃ |
39 And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads,
| והעברים גדפו אותו ויניעו את ראשם׃ |
40 and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it again in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross.
| ויאמרו אתה ההרס את ההיכל ובנהו בשלשת ימים הושע לנפשך ואם בן האלהים אתה רדה מן הצלב׃ |
41 And in like manner the chief priests also insulting Him, with the scribes and elders,
| וכן הלעיגו גם ראשי הכהנים עם הסופרים והזקנים לאמר׃ |
42 said, He saved others, himself He cannot save: if He be the king of Israel, let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe Him:
| את אחרים הושיע ולעצמו לא יוכל להושיע אם מלך ישראל הוא ירד נא עתה מן הצלב ונאמין בו׃ |
43 He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will own Him; for He said, I am the Son of God.
| בטח באלהים עתה יפלטהו אם חפץ בו כי אמר בן האלהים אני׃ |
44 And one of the thieves also, that were crucified with Him, cast the same reproach upon Him.
| וגם הפריצים הנצלבים אתו חרפהו כדברים האלה׃ |
45 Now from the sixth hour to the ninth there was darkness over all the land.
| ומשעה הששית היה חשך על כל הארץ עד השעה התשיעית׃ |
46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani," that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
| וכעת השעה התשיעית ויצעק ישוע בקול גדול אלי אלי למה שבקתני ותרגומו אלי אלי למה עזבתני׃ |
47 And some of them that stood by, hearing Him, said, He calls upon Elias:
| ויאמרו מקצת העמדים שם כשמעם את זאת לאמר אל אליהו הוא קורא׃ |
48 and immediately one of them ran, and took a spunge, and having filled it with vinegar put it upon a reed, and offered it Him to drink;
| וימהר אחד מהם וירץ ויקח ספוג וימלא אתו חמץ וישימהו על קנה וישקהו׃ |
49 the rest said, Stay, let us see whether Elias will come and save Him.
| ושאר האנשים אמרו הניחו לו ונראה אם יבוא אליהו להושיעו׃ |
50 But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice; and then gave up the ghost.
| וישוע הוסיף לקרא בקול גדול ותצא רוחו׃ |
51 And behold the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom, and the earth was shaken, and the rocks were split:
| והנה נקרעה פרכת ההיכל מלמעלה למטה לשנים קרעים והארץ נרעשה והסלעים נבקעו׃ |
52 and the graves opened, and many bodies of departed saints arose,
| והקברים נפתחו ורבים מגופות הקדושים ישני אדמת עפר נעורו׃ |
53 and coming out of the graves, after his resurrection, went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
| ויצאו מן הקברים אחרי הקיצו ויבאו אל העיר הקדושה ויראו לרבים׃ |
54 And when the centurion, and they that were with him guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake, and what was done, they were sore afraid, and said, This was indeed the Son of God.
| ושר המאה והאנשים אשר אתו השמרים את ישוע כראותם את הרעש ואת אשר נהיתה נבהלו מאד ויאמרו אכן זה היה בן אלהים׃ |
55 And several women were there looking on at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministring unto Him:
| ותהיינה שם נשים רבות הראות מרחוק אשר הלכו אחרי ישוע מן הגליל לשרתו׃ |
56 among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.
| ובתוכן מרים המגדלית ומרים אם יעקב ויוסי ואם בני זבדי׃ |
57 And in the evening, there came a rich man of Arimathea, whose name was Joseph, who also himself was a disciple of Jesus, and went to Pilate,
| ויהי בערב ויבא איש עשיר מן הרמתים ושמו יוסף וגם הוא היה מתלמידי ישוע׃ |
58 and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be delivered to him;
| ויגש אל פילטוס לשאל את גוית ישוע ויצו פליטוס כי תנתן לו׃ |
59 and Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
| ויקח יוסף את הגויה ויכרך אותה בסדין טהור׃ |
60 and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had had cut out in the rock; and when he had rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, he went away:
| וישימה בקבר החדש אשר חצב לו בסלע ויגל אבן גדולה על פתח הקבר וילך לו׃ |
61 but there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary sitting over against the sepulchre.
| ומרים המגדלית ומרים האחרת היו ישבות שם ממול הקבר׃ |
62 Now the next day after the preparation, the chief priests and pharisees went together to Pilate, saying, Sir, we remember that this impostor,
| ויהי ממחרת ערב השבת ויקהלו הכהנים הגדולים והפרושים אל פילטוס׃ |
63 when He was alive, said, After three days I will rise again:
| ויאמרו אדנינו זכרנו כי אמר המתעה ההוא בעודנו חי מקצה שלשת ימים קום אקום׃ |
64 order therefore the sepulchre to be secured till the third day, least his disciples should come and steal Him away, and tell the people, He is risen from the dead: and so the last error will be worse than the first.
| לכן צוה נא ויסכר מבוא הקבר עד היום השלישי פן יבאו תלמידיו בלילה וגנבהו ואמרו אל העם הנה קם מן המתים והיתה התרמית האחרונה רעה מן הראשונה׃ |
65 But Pilate said to them, Ye have a guard of your own, go and make it as secure as ye will.
| ויאמר אליהם פילטוס הנה לכם אנשי משמר לכו סכרוהו כדעתכם׃ |
66 So they went and made the sepulchre safe, sealing the stone, and setting a guard to watch it.
| וילכו ויסכרו את מבוא הקבר ויחתמו את האבן ויעמידו עליו את המשמר׃ |
