Mark 6
1 And He went out from thence, and came into his own country, and his disciples attended Him:
Et egressus inde, abiit in patriam suam: et sequebantur eum discipuli sui:
2 and when the sabbath was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many that heard Him were astonished, and said, From whence hath He these things? and what is this wisdom which is given unto Him, that even such mighty things are done by his hands?
et facto sabbato coepit in synagoga docere: et multi audientes admirabantur in doctrina eius, dicentes: Unde huic haec omnia? et quae est sapientia, quae data est illi: et virtutes tales, quae per manus eius efficiuntur?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here among us? and they were prejudiced against Him.
Nonne hic est faber, filius Mariae, frater Iacobi, et Ioseph, et Iudae, et Simonis? nonne et sorores eius hic nobiscum sunt? Et scandalizabantur in illo.
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is nowhere less honoured, than in his own country, and among his relations, and his own family.
Et dicebat illis Iesus: Quia non est propheta sine honore nisi in patria sua, et in domo sua, et in cognatione sua.
5 And He could do no miracle there, only laying his hands on a few sick people He healed them;
Et non poterat ibi virtutem ullam facere, nisi paucos infirmos impositis manibus curavit:
6 and He was amazed at their unbelief. But he went about all the villages round, teaching.
et mirabatur propter incredulitatem eorum, et circuibat castella in circuitu docens.
7 And He calleth unto Him the twelve, and sent them forth two and two, and gave them power over impure spirits;
Et vocavit duodecim: et coepit eos mittere binos, et dabat illis potestatem spirituum immundorum.
8 and ordered them to take nothing for their journey, but a staff only; no bag, nor bread, nor money in their purse:
Et praecepit eis ne quid tollerent in via, nisi virgam tantum: non peram, non panem, neque in zona aes,
9 but to tie on their sandals, and not to put on two coats.
sed calceatos sandaliis, et ne induerentur duabus tunicis.
10 And He said unto them, wheresoever ye enter into a house, there stay till ye leave that place.
Et dicebat eis: Quocumque introieritis in domum: illic manete donec exeatis inde:
11 And whosoever will not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, it shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in the day of judgement, than for that city.
quicumque non receperint vos, nec audierint vos, exeuntes inde, excutite pulverem de pedibus vestris in testimonium illis.
12 And they went forth, and preached that men should repent.
Et exeuntes praedicabant ut poenitentiam agerent:
13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them.
et daemonia multa eiiciebant, et ungebant oleo multos aegros, et sanabantur.
14 And king Herod heard of Him, (for his name was spread abroad, ) and he said, John the baptist is risen from the dead, and therefore miraculous powers appear in him.
Et audivit rex Herodes, (manifestum enim factum est nomen eius) et dicebat: Quia Ioannes Baptista resurrexit a mortuis: et propterea virtutes operantur in illo.
15 Others said, it is Elias: and others said, it is a prophet, or like one of the prophets.
Alii autem dicebant: Quia Elias est. Alii vero dicebant: Quia propheta est, quasi unus ex prophetis.
16 But when Herod heard of Him, he said, it is John whom I beheaded, he is risen from the dead.
Quo audito Herodes ait: Quem ego decollavi Ioannem, hic a mortuis resurrexit.
17 For Herod had sent and seized John, and bound him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because he had married her:
Ipse enim Herodes misit, ac tenuit Ioannem, et vinxit eum in carcerem propter Herodiadem uxorem Philippi fratris sui, quia duxerat eam.
18 For John had said to Herod, it is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.
Dicebat enim Ioannes Herodi: Non licet tibi habere uxorem fratris tui.
19 Wherefore Herodias persecuted him, and would have taken away his life:
Herodias autem insidiabatur illi: et volebat occidere eum, nec poterat.
20 but could not; for Herod revered John, knowing him to be a just and holy man, and protected him: and when he heard him he did many things according to John's instructions, and heard him willingly.
Herodes enim metuebat Ioannem, sciens eum virum iustum et sanctum: et custodiebat eum, et audito eo multa faciebat, et libenter eum audiebat.
21 But a convenient day happening, when Herod on his birth-night gave a supper to his lords, and chief officers, and persons of distinction in Galilee; and the daughter of Herodias coming in,
Et cum dies opportunus accidisset, Herodes natalis sui coenam fecit principibus, et tribunis, et primis Galilaeae.
22 and dancing, and having pleased Herod and his guests, the king said to the young princess, Ask of me whatever thou wilt, and I will give it thee.
cumque introisset filia ipsius Herodiadis, et saltasset, et placuisset Herodi, simulque recumbentibus; rex ait puellae: Pete a me quod vis, et dabo tibi:
23 And he gave her his oath too, whatever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, even to the half of my kingdom.
et iuravit illi: Quia quidquid petieris dabo tibi, licet dimidium regni mei.
24 And she withdrew and consulted her mother, what to ask: and she said, The head of John the baptist.
Quae cum exisset, dixit matri suae: Quid petam? At illa dixit: Caput Ioannis Baptistae.
25 And immediately she came in again with eagerness to the king, and said, I desire that thou wouldst give me directly the head of John the baptist in a dish.
Cumque introisset statim cum festinatione ad regem, petivit dicens: Volo ut protinus des mihi in disco caput Ioannis Baptistae.
26 And the king was exceedingly grieved, but on account of his oath, and those who were at table with him, he would not refuse her: but immediately sent one of his guard,
Et contristatus est rex propter iusiurandum: sed propter simul discumbentes noluit eam contristare:
27 and ordered his head to be brought:
et misso spiculatore praecepit afferri caput eius in disco. Et decollavit eum in carcere,
28 and he went and beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head in a dish, and gave it to the damsel, and the damsel carried it to her mother.
et attulit caput eius in disco: et dedit illud puellae, et puella dedit matri suae.
29 And his disciples hearing of it, came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a sepulchre.
Quo audito, discipuli eius venerunt, et tulerunt corpus eius: et posuerunt illud in monumento.
30 And the apostles came together to Jesus, and told Him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught.
Et convenientes Apostoli ad Iesum, renunciaverunt ei omnia, quae egerant, et docuerant.
31 And He said to them, Come ye yourselves apart into a retired place, and rest a little: for there were many coming and going, and they had not time even to eat.
Et ait illis: Venite seorsum in desertum locum, et requiescite pusillum. Erant enim qui veniebant et redibant multi: et nec spatium manducandi habebant.
32 And they went away privately in a ship into a desert place.
Et ascendentes in navim, abierunt in desertum locum seorsum.
33 And the people saw them departing, and many took notice of them, and ran thither on foot from all the cities, and got before them, and came together unto Him.
Et viderunt eos abeuntes, et cognoverunt multi: et pedestres de omnibus civitatibus concurrerunt illuc, et praevenerunt eos.
34 And when Jesus came out of the ship, He saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion towards them; because they were as sheep without a shepherd: and He began to teach them many things.
Et exiens vidit turbam multam Iesus: et misertus est super eos, quia erant sicut oves non habentes pastorem, et coepit docere multa.
35 And when it was now late in the day, his disciples came to Him, and said, this is a desert place, and it is now late:
Et cum iam hora multa fieret, accesserunt discipuli eius, dicentes: Desertus est locus hic, et iam hora praeteriit:
36 dismiss them, that they may go into the country-places and villages round about, and buy themselves bread; for they have nothing to eat.
dimitte illos, ut euntes in proximas villas, et vicos, emant sibi cibos, quos manducent:
37 But He answered them, Do ye give them something to eat. And they say to Him, shall we go and buy two hundred penny-worth of bread, and give them to eat?
Et respondens ait illis: Date illis vos manducare. Et dixerunt ei: Euntes emamus ducentis denariis panes, et dabimus illis manducare.
38 But He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they had examined, they said, Five, and two fishes.
Et dicit eis: Quot panes habetis? ite, et videte. Et cum cognovissent, dicunt: Quinque, et duos pisces.
39 And He ordered them to cause all the people to sit down by companies upon the grass:
Et praecepit illis ut accumbere facerent omnes secundum contubernia super viride foenum.
40 and they sat down in an oblong square, an hundred by fifty.
Et discubuerunt in partes per centenos, et quinquagenos.
41 And when He had taken the five loaves, and the two fishes, He looked up to heaven, and gave thanks; then He brake the loaves and gave them to his disciples, to set before them; the two fishes likewise He divided among them all.
Et acceptis quinque panibus et duobus pisces, intuens in caelum, benedixit, et fregit panes, et dedit discipulis suis, ut ponerent ante eos: et duos pisces divisit omnibus.
42 And they did all eat and were fully satisfied.
Et manducaverunt omnes, et saturati sunt.
43 And they took up of the fragments of the bread, and of the fishes, twelve baskets full.
Et sustulerunt reliquias, fragmentorum duodecim cophinos plenos, et de piscibus.
44 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men.
Erant autem qui manducaverunt quinque millia virorum.
45 And immediately He obliged his disciples to get into the ship, and to go before Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the people:
Et statim coegit discipulos suos ascendere navim, ut praecederent eum trans fretum ad Bethsaidam, dum ipse dimitteret populum.
46 and when He had sent them away, He retired into a mountain to pray.
Et cum dimisisset eos, abiit in montem orare.
47 And when the evening was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and He alone upon the land:
Et cum sero esset, erat navis in medio mari, et ipse solus in terra.
48 and He saw them labouring in rowing; (for the wind was contrary: ) and about the fourth watch of the night He cometh to them walking upon the sea, and would have passed by them.
Et videns eos laborantes in remigando, (erat enim ventus contrarius eis) circa quartam vigiliam noctis venit ad eos ambulans supra mare: et volebat praeterire eos.
49 But they seeing Him walking upon the water, thought it was an apparition, and cried out: for they all saw Him and were frighted.
At illi ut viderunt eum ambulantem supra mare, putaverunt phantasma esse, et exclamaverunt.
50 And He immediately spake to them, and saith, Be of good courage, it is I, be not afraid.
Omnes enim viderunt eum, et conturbati sunt. Et statim locutus est cum eis, et dixit eis: Confidite, ego sum, nolite timere.
51 And He went up into the ship to them, and the wind ceased, and they were exceedingly amazed in themselves, and wondered: not considering the miracle of the loaves,
Et ascendit ad illos in navim, et cessavit ventus. Et plus magis intra se stupebant:
52 for their heart was stupified.
non enim intellexerunt de panibus: erat enim cor eorum obcaecatum.
53 And they passed over and came to the country of Gennesaret, and put to shore:
Et cum transfretassent, venerunt in terram Genesareth, et applicuerunt.
54 and when they came out of the ship, immediately the people knew Him, and ran through all the country,
Cumque egressi essent de navi, continuo cognoverunt eum:
55 and carried about in beds those that were sick, where they heard He was.
et percurrentes universam regionem illam, coeperunt in grabatis eos, qui se male habebant, circumferre, ubi audiebant eum esse.
56 And wherever He came into their towns, or cities, or villages, they laid the sick in the streets, and intreated Him that they might but touch the border of his garment, and as many as touched it were healed.
Et quocumque introibat, in vicos, vel in villas, aut civitates, in plateis ponebant infirmos, et deprecabantur eum, ut vel fimbriam vestimenti eius tangerent, et quotquot tangebant eum, salvi fiebant.
